i'm going to pause working on Butcher's Hunger for a couple weeks so i can focus on a non-cotI short comic instead. i'm not abandoning BH by any means, i'm actually very excited to finish it! the ending is in sight even! we're at 188 pages right now and i think it might end around 250 (though i could be wrong).
thanks for your patience, everyone!

I made a playlist for Butcher's Hunger! I've been holding onto this one for a while because some of the songs were kinda spoilery.

Will thee devoured cult member ever be addressed again? Has no one noticed? Was it a dream sequence (I'd buy it, just sayin')?
So when I first started making this comic I had the intention of keeping it pretty short and only showing the essential story beats. Suffice to say, it's now about three times the length I thought it might be (172 pages and counting!) and the scenes keep on getting longer and longer. If the hedgehog had been eaten at this point in the story, I'd probably follow it up with, at the very least, a small mention of what happened afterwards, however we're far past the point of that event being relevant anymore, so no, it won't be addressed again.
I do have thoughts on what happened though. The Lamb secretly buried the hedgehog in an unmarked grave away from the cult grounds and told no one of what happened. It was assumed that the hedgehog maybe got drunk, wandered off, and was killed, but the followers shifted their blame to the Goat after their attack. There's a constant sense of worry in the cult as many believe they may return to kill more followers. The only person who suspects something different is Aron, one of the disciples. He's very intelligent and has figured out that the Lamb covered up whatever really happened to the hedgehog. He isn't worried about it however as he has complete faith in the Lamb. He believes that if they chose to hide it then that must surely be the best course of action.

i've changed my mind. this is why.
In the last comic I don't really understand, why does Narinder want the lamb to eat him?
We'll get to that! It's not the right time in the narrative to fully explain his reasoning yet, so you'll have to wait a little longer I'm afraid.

btw if i haven't answered an ask you've sent feel free to resend it. every ask (and some very old fanmail) that was in there vanished recently. it's telling me there's at least 6 unanswered asks, but i can't see them :(

Even in its semi sentience in this AU I’m sure it’s not the most pleased about what’s happening. Even if it’s just “❓” going on in there
Oh for sure! It likes the Lamb and wants them to remain the crown bearer, which is why it told Narinder it would help him.

Quick question: Why does Narinder feel so strongly about eating the lamb? Are his feelings coming out?
This will be explored later in the story, but in essence he cares enough about the Lamb to want them to survive over him. He's decided that he loves them more than he wants his crown back and has very little faith that there's a way both of them can survive so grubs up lamb itadakimasu

At this point I think the red crown is very confused and frustrated
Also I knew Narinder wanted to be eaten!
Well done for realising! To be honest, I think the red crown in this story is only semi-sentient. It can want things and communicate this to others, but cannot plot to achieve them and doesn't experience emotion as we do.
I know I've drawn it looking confused before, but that was for comedic effect and happened very early on before I'd thought about any of this.

I've been quite busy the past couple weeks, which is why this update took a little longer than usual, the next one shouldn't take nearly as long.

What inspired you to draw?
I think I have one of my primary school teachers to thank. She was the head teacher and loved art and music, so this was reflected in our education. We frequently listened to classical music such as Vivaldi, Handel, and Haydn and had to draw what we could hear. We explored classic texts like Romeo and Juliet through colour and abstract shape, and studied post-impressionism, pointillism, romanticism, etc.
It was by no means a comprehensive education in art, but it certainly sparked something and I started getting art lessons from a local artist when I was eleven. She would hold group art classes for youths on Saturday mornings in her home, a huge house filled to the brim with old and eccentric knick-knacks. We would sit around her dining table with our watercolours and paint whatever she had set out for us that day; a vase of flowers, a still life she'd arranged, or sometimes she would tell us to wander around the house and find an interesting object we wanted to draw.
I later started exploring other mediums, and during sixth form found that I enjoyed acrylic paint far more than watercolour, so set about developing a style where the only tool I used to paint was a small glue spatula. After discovering fandom spaces and seeing digital fanart online, I decided I wanted to learn how to draw digitally, so I bought my current art tablet when I was eighteen.
I think my desire to draw is intrinsically linked to my desire to tell stories though. I've been writing "books" since I was eight and while I fell out of love with writing prose, I discovered that I adore making comics. This is probably why I moved away from still lifes; I wanted to engage in greater emotion, elicit greater emotion. And comics do exactly that for me.
