Once, a long time ago, I was bestowed with an eerie power, beyond the ken of mortal man. In the back of a van that I purchased from the auctions laid an artifact of incomparable might. It let me disappear from the sight of police officers, security guards, journalists, and miscellaneous snoops. I could travel throughout the city, uninterrupted, into its most sensitive areas. Perhaps you, too, have received such a gift from the heavens. I speak, of course, of a high-visibility jacket and plastic hard-hat.
When you are wearing them, nobody at all will ever bother you. Why would you be wearing those dorky clothes if you didn’t belong here? And why would you be here if something weren’t abnormal? The human mind can ignore a whole shitload of stuff, like why a 1965 Ford Econoline camper van is parked haphazardly on the side of the road while a greasy, filthy dude is rifling through a phone swi- oh, he has a high-visibility jacket on. He must know what he’s doing. Even if what he’s doing appears to be pulling several hundred feet of copper wire out of that telco box and stuffing it into the back of his grotty van.
There’s only one downside. Now that I’ve figured out this secret of the human race, I wonder how many others around me are also imposters. Once in awhile, I’ll try to make eye contact with another be-vested individual, really stare him or her down. They usually break the eye contact, and then quickly slink away. Once, some lady ran back to her still-running XTerra, and did a Rockford turn out of the parking lot, before speeding the wrong way down the highway for a few seconds. I’ll never know what she was really up to. Maybe she was actually doing her job.
So if you see me out there, and you’re doing the same thing I am, make sure you let me know that you don’t belong there, too. Together, we can team up to loot even more shit from The Man, and nobody at all will expect that an impromptu team meeting is actually a front for a criminal enterprise of gettin’ stuff.

The Pagon Prologue: Brick by Brick
Read the first part here
Not stopping at the military operatives, Pagon asked for more manpower to be utilized to infiltrate Russian criminal society in order to fund the establishment of New Skrullos in a way that is less track-able by the government in Moscow. It's a process of starting to build their ideal temporary home brick by brick, and after the groundwork with the military, they need to stretch out their control a bit further
Posing as the decorated General, Pagon strut his way to meet an old friend of the General that went rogue and eventually worked for a criminal oligarch.
The friend would never expect that it was all just a ruse by the manipulative Skrull as he got hauled and then locked away in the Fracking Pod where a Skrull operative named Zirksu took his likeness and absorbed his memories to infiltrate deeper amongst the criminal underworld
Just like wildfires, the Skrull moved swiftly and decisively, targeting oligarch from various background that they found necessary to support the success of their operation. Starting from the commander's best friend boss who owned sprawling construction empire and illicit drug trafficking mixed with it named Wassily Kirilenko. He was in the middle of his workout in his private gym when his very own right hand man who spotted his bench press suddenly shape shifted right in front of his eyes and pressed the heavy weight to crush his body. After telling fellow Skrulls he brought along that already infiltrated the innermost security detail of the oligarch to dispose the real body, he checked himself in the mirror and flexed his newfound affinity for big tattooed muscle and the insane thirst for power and control
Skrull love to toy around with their target and taunted them to the maximum pain before locking them away in the Fracking Pods or outright killing them. Just like how Nuro taunted Maxim Yagudin, a former KGB spy turned telco oligarch, on how Yagudin is not that smart after all for being easily tricked by a shapeshifting alien half his size.
"Let's see later how you got so rich, bro. I have theory in my mind that it's all about nepotism and being an eye-candy for an influential widow with wide connection from what I read about you, but I'll know every single thing about you without you even saying a single word anyway.....so.....keep your mouth shut," he said before choking him close to his death to make him unconscious
But all in all, the infiltration of the criminal oligarch can be qualified as a successful operation. Not only they raised so much more capital to support the cause, now they have wide range of services they can use and manipulate to further wreck havoc among human. For example, he might look young, but Gennady Tatishvili is a real danger with his 10,000 well-armed militia that he inherited from his father
The Skrull operative that is directed to pose as him cornered him to the en-suite bathroom in his own sprawling mansion where he met his demise after a heart attack for being so goddamn terrified when he witnessed the Skrull shapeshifted from a woman he's about to fuck to a perfect replica of himself. A portable fracking devices he brought along proven to be handy as he copied all Gennady's memory before leaving the real body unattended in his own pool of pee and sweat, a tragic end to an up and coming oligarch overlord. The plan on his militia is to basically do Gravik's dirty work without sacrificing Skrull operatives in the process
Then, there's this trio of gun manufacturer and also owner of various exclusive restaurant, clubs and gyms across Russia and its former Soviet area. Gravik simply want to have endless gun supply to support his causes to wage war among humans and what better way other than seizing the control in its production to do just that. The high-end chain of entertainment spots can also work wonder for the Skrulls as it will ease transportation process of goods to remain illicit and untraceable. Plus, the spots are well-known among the 1% so it's a perfect breeding ground to get more shells if necessary. The 3 man are related because the first two (Aleksander Samsonov and Boris Samsonov) are step-brother from the same father while the last one (Jurij Alimov) is an in-law that entered the family through marriage with the eldest child and only daughter of the Samsonov family. They were kidnapped as their dinner already spiked with sedatives that can knock an elephant within minutes, and they all fell flat to their plates of privately-catered food in the confine of their own home not even a minute after their first bite. They never wake up during the transfer of their body to the continously-developing Skrulls operation base and once they lined up to the fracking pods, Skrull operatives already await to replicate them and returned right away to their estate in order to not raise any suspicion
Usually, before these operatives went out of their way to live life as humans for God knows how long, Pagon as the Acting General of New Skrullos will test the operatives loyalty and dedication to the cause. Ibragim Musayev is a high-ranked Chechen officials that the Skrulls decided to target since he has close connection with some scientist that would be beneficial for the Skrulls cause, and obviously, Chechen militia (do we need to spell this out?). As the Skrull operatives finished changing into Musayev, Pagon asked him to stand straight and interrogate him
"What's your name?"
"Warrior,"
"What's your fight?"
"Skrullos,"
"What's your dream?"
"Home.....in my own skin,"
"Your enemy is?"
"Humans, of all kind, sir,"
"Can you assure me your utmost dedication to the cause and will not let any humane distraction swerved you from the goal?"
"Yes I can, sir,"
"Well, let the time talk on that. Remember warrior, no spot, no flaw. You're Ibragim Musayev now and there's no going back unless I or Gravik tell you to,"
And just like that, the 260 lbs 6'5" mass monster of a military commander just walk right out to the next room to pick up his clothings, ready to straighten up some unruly Chechen fighters under his command and see how beneficial the scientific community he has close ties with can be leveraged and utilized for the cause of his people

Rio Grande do Sul floods wreak havoc on ICT services
In addition to the loss of life and damage in Rio Grande do Sul, the heavy rains and floods in the southern Brazilian state have severely impacted data and telecom services and infrastructure.
Mobile operators have opened their networks to roaming – which allows the use of the network outside one company's coverage area – and some are offering free internet to pre- and post-paid customers in Rio Grande do Sul.
Conexis Brasil Digital, the entity that represents the largest operators in the country, said where there is only one network available, customers of any operator can access it for free.
Telco TIM said that in 20 municipalities where it operates in the state, there is no signal and in another 100, there is partial interruption of service. The 120 municipalities represent around 24% of the state's total.

mbler, curhat dong.
Tapi alhamdulillah ngga sulit2 bgt. Lebih banyak senengnya. Anyway, aku nggamau bahas pernikahan lah, nanti aja.
Aku mau bahas salah 1 atasanku cukup menarik, namanya pak ***.
Mana bentar lagi WFO full. Gimana ya, mbler?

An open standard threatens to disrupt the cloistered world of wireless networking - SiliconANGLE
An open standard for radio access networks or RANs could bring the costs of such a project within reach of many more businesses.
Update Imperium dell company management system AI update with container ai with Telco prime ai for smart nic with ipu and secondary operations opportunity for mainframe hubs.
The Open RAN specification, which the O-RAN Alliance introduced in 2018 and now maintains, is a reference architecture for a set of interoperable hardware, software and interfaces that can be built from off-the-shelf hardware. Supporters say it could have the same impact on the telecommunications industry that Unix and TCP/IP had on the data center in the 1990s when open standards disrupted the proprietary – and highly profitable – domain of a few large equipment makers, brought prices crashing down and changed the economics of data processing.
So dell, add, Broadcom and VMware for virtual wide area network layer.

BALITANG REHIYONAL: Boholano resident accidentally transferred 4-digit monetary figures from Philippine bank and e-wallet app to Internet TV Station 'OneNETtv Channel' in Dumaguete City, in giving way for the Surigao funeral trip [EXCLUSIVE]
JAGNA, BOHOL -- An unintended transfer occurred with 4-digit monetary figures when an e-wallet sender from Bohol on Tuesday afternoon (November 12th, 2024 -- Bohol local time), mistakenly sent PHP6,000 (or approximately U$D102) to the internet TV station 'OneNETtv Channel - DYDZ-DTV Channel 8' in 'Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental'. This was at around 2:47pm, and was from a verified e-wallet account of 'Windy Boncales Cresencio', who reportedly misplaced the online transaction via GCash using InstaPay service from the Philippine banking institution 'GoTyme Bank'.
'Windy Cresencio', one of the residents of this said area, and a local self-employed resident, who attemptingly send the money to his father would be using to buy tickets back to 'Surigao City, Surigao del Norte'. Because of a numerical mistake from yesterday afternoon, the money had gone temporarily to Freelance Online Media Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews named 'Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong', in lieu of the intended recipient: "Mamalihug ko balik send sa kwarta nga gi-send sa akong papa thru GCash, kay nasayop sya sa numero para lukat to nato ug tiket sa byaheng pagpa-uli to 'Surigao'. Namatay po ang akong uncle (uyoan) kay wala gyud koy laing kwarta. Maluoy ka sir, bisag PHP5,000 nalay (U$D85). Importante kining makalukat kog tiket ron, kay dili ko kaabot sa lubong ugma", Cresencio said in a text message to OneNETnews. Most of the time, it was mixed up at our telco partners at 'DITO Telecommunity', with the correct one ending in '4055' being confused with our '6055', which available for us to donate here in Dumaguete City under ONC Foundation.
That night, our news team at OneNETnews attempted to address the matter by checking their GCash balance, but was encountered an unusual One-Time Pin (OTP) login error at around 5:40pm on Tuesday early evening. An ongoing technical glitch was also delayed for its verification process. The day after on Wednesday (November 13th), we phone patched the call thru 'Smart Communications' to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in 'Malate, Manila', along with the regional branches in 'North National Highway, Barangay Daro, this said city and province' to finally establish an immediate solution over the emergent issue that the money is considered safe and could be later returned in a flash.
The news team of OneNETnews can exclusively reveal through a phone call with a male representative, which not to be identified that the PHP6,000 was intended for ticket transportation costs for Cresencio's family to attend their uncle's funeral in Surigao. 'ONC Holdings Inc.', the media arm for ONC Foundation and OneNETtv Channel have been facilitated the return of the full amount at 10:15am onwards on Wednesday through the e-wallet mobile fintech firm 'GCash'.
Following this experience in public service on us, 'TeleRadyo Serbisyo: Dumaguete' and 'OneNETtv Channel' extends their heartfelt condolences to the Crescencio family or relatives for their loss. Whatever it is, however, this incident highlights the importance of double-checking e-wallet account numbers, as mistakes happen will not be repeated at once. Users must be doubly vigilant for transaction details of financial mishaps.
Although… This case has been settled, amicably since the money was originally returned, for the sake of public service, it reminds everyone for the people of Bohol, also to be extra careful when dealing with electronic transactions in your smartphone app. It is best to check all the details properly, before confirming any transfers to prevent total inconvenience and financial refund loss.

Special Thanks to SPO1 Richard Cagas and the Jagna Municipal Police Station (JMPS) for sending in with us on our public service tip.

[ad_1] Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash M Ambani | Image: PTI3 min read Last Updated : Oct 15 2024 | 12:41 PM IST Speaking at the inauguration of the India Mobile Congress on Tuesday, the leaders of Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel called for the government to embrace a holistic artificial intelligence (AI) strategy and ensure all potential satellite communication providers are subject to the same rules as traditional telecom operators. Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash M Ambani and Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal outlined their suggestions for the evolving sector in their address to a major gathering of national and global delegates from the telecom sector, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp Market leader Reliance Jio wants the government to adopt a holistic AI strategy focused on self-sufficiency. "AI is absolutely critical for realising our dreams of a viksit Bharat by 2047. Therefore, India under your leadership should urgently embrace AI with a holistic strategy driven by maximum Atmanirbhar efforts," Ambani said. He stressed that Jio remains committed to democratising AI and offering powerful AI models and services to Indians at affordable prices. "Towards this end, we are laying the groundwork for a national AI infrastructure," he emphasised. Ambani noted that India needs to accelerate talent generation on a scale necessary to make the country a global leader in AI. Addressing the concern over how AI might affect the job market, he remarked that some existing jobs will evolve while many new and exciting opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship "will be created rapidly, just like during the adoption of the computer and the internet." Additionally, Ambani urged the government to expedite the draft of the 2020 data centre policy. "Indian data should remain in Indian data centres. Therefore, Indian companies ready to set up AI and machine learning data centres should receive all necessary incentives, including incentives for power consumption," he added. Satcom debate Bharti Airtel has called on the government to ensure that all potential satellite communication providers operate under the telecom operator framework. Drawing the Prime Minister's attention to the ongoing global debate on how fast-growing satellite communication services can coexist with terrestrial networks, Mittal highlighted that telecom companies worldwide have played a crucial role in connecting the globe. Referring to Indian telcos, he noted that they would extend satellite services to the remotest parts of the country. However, Mittal stressed that satellite companies aiming to serve "elite, retail customers" in urban areas must take a telecom licence like everyone else. His comments appear directed at foreign entities such as Starlink and Project Kuiper, which are seeking entry into the Indian market and whose applications are currently being reviewed by the government. "They must adhere to the same conditions, including buying spectrum like telecom companies, paying the licence fees, and securing their networks. This is a simple solution that can be adopted on a global scale, and India can lead the way," Mittal said. The government is currently in the process of opening up satellite communication services and has already granted GMPCS licences to Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s satellite arm, Jio Space Limited. However, applications from foreign entities have faced hurdles due to technicalities and security concerns. Starlink is the satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, the American spacecraft manufacturer and satellite communications company owned by US tech billionaire Elon Musk. Project Kuiper, a subsidiary of Amazon, was established in 2019 to deploy a large satellite internet constellation to provide low-latency broadband connectivity. Ahead of AI & Big Data Expo Europe, Kunal Anand, Chief Technology and AI Officer at F5, discusses the company’s role and initiatives to stay at the forefront of AI-enabled networking solutions.
AI News: As AI applications evolve, the demands on network infrastructure are becoming more complex. What key challenges does the industry face regarding latency and connectivity in supporting large-scale AI deployments?
Anand: F5 discovered that AI has drastically transformed application architectures. Some companies are investing billions of dollars in AI factories – massive GPU clusters – while others prefer cloud-based solutions or small language models (SLMs) as less expensive alternatives.
Network architectures are evolving to address these challenges. AI factories operate on distinct networking stacks, like InfiniBand with specific GPUs like the H100s or NVIDIA’s upcoming Blackwell series. At the same time, cloud-based technologies and GPU clouds are advancing.
A major trend is data gravity, where organisations’ data is locked in specific environments. This has driven the evolution of multi-cloud architectures, allowing workloads to link with data across environments for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
As RAG demands rise, organisations face higher latency because of limited resources, whether from heavily used data stores or limited sets of GPU servers.
AI News: As analysts predict AI-related traffic will soon make up a significant portion of network traffic. What unique challenges does this influx of AI-generated traffic pose for existing network infrastructure, and how do you see the industry preparing for it?
Anand: F5 believes that by the end of the decade, most applications will be AI-powered or AI-driven, necessitating augmentation across the network services chain. These applications will use APIs to communicate with AI factories and third-party services, access data for RAG, and potentially expose their own APIs. Essentially, APIs will be the glue holding this ecosystem together, as analysts have suggested.
Looking ahead, AI-related traffic is expected to dominate network traffic as AI becomes increasingly integrated into applications and APIs. As AI becomes central to practically all applications, AI-related traffic will naturally increase.
AI News: With AI applications becoming more complex and processing multimodal data in real time, how is F5 adapting its solutions to ensure networks can efficiently manage these dynamic workloads?
Anand: F5 looks at this from many angles. In the case of RAG, when data – whether images, binary streams, or text – must be retrieved from a data storage, the method is the same regardless of data format. Customers often want quick Layer 4 load balancing, traffic management, and steering capabilities, all of which F5 excels at. The company provides organisations with load balancing, traffic management, and security services, guaranteeing RAG has efficient data access. F5 has also enabled load balancing among AI factories.
In some cases, large organisations manage massive GPU clusters with tens of thousands of GPUs. Since AI workloads are unpredictable, these GPUs may be available or unavailable depending on the workload. F5 ensures efficient traffic routing, mitigating the unpredictability of AI workloads.
F5 improves performance, increases throughput, and adds security capabilities for organisations building AI factories and clusters.
AI News: As AI enhances security while also posing AI-driven cyber threats, what approaches is F5 taking to strengthen network security and resilience against these evolving challenges?
Anand: There are many different AI-related challenges on the way. Attackers are already employing AI to generate new payloads, find loopholes, and launch unique attacks. For example, ChatGPT and visual transformers have the ability to break CAPTCHAs, especially interactive ones. Recent demonstrations have shown the sophistication of these attacks.
As seen in past security patterns, every time attackers gain an advantage with new technology, defenders must rise to the challenge. This often necessitates reconsidering security models, like shifting from “allow everything, deny some” to “allow some, deny everything.” Many organisations are exploring solutions to combat AI-driven threats.
F5 is making big investments to keep ahead of AI-driven threats. As part of its F5 intelligence programme, the company is developing, training, and deploying models, which are supported by its AI Center of Excellence.
Earlier this year, F5 launched an AI data fabric, with a team dedicated to developing models that serve the entire business, from policy creation to insight delivery. F5 feels it is well placed to face these rising issues.
AI News: What role do partnerships play in developing the next generation of AI-optimised networks, especially between hyperscalers, telcos, and tech companies?
Anand: Partnerships are important for AI development. The AI stack is complex and involves several components, including electricity, data centres, hardware, servers, GPUs, memory, computational power, and a networking stack, all of which must function together. It is unusual for a single organisation to oversee everything from start to finish.
F5 focuses on establishing and maintaining the necessary partnerships in computation, networking, and storage to support AI.
AI News: How does F5 view its role in advancing AI networking, and what initiatives are you focusing on to stay at the forefront of AI-enabled networking solutions?
Anand: F5 is committed to developing its technology platform. The AI Data Fabric, launched earlier this year, will work with the AI Center of Excellence to prepare the organisation for the future.
F5 is also forming strong partnerships, with announcements to come. The company is excited about its work and the rapid pace of global change. F5’s unique vantage point – processing worldwide traffic – enables it to correlate data insights with industry trends. F5 also intends to be more forthcoming about its research and models, with some open-source contributions coming soon.
Overall, F5 is incredibly optimistic about the future. The transformative impact of AI is remarkable, and it is an exciting time to be part of this shift.

From Telco to Techco: Why the Shift is Essential For Telecommunications Companies?
The telecommunications industry is undergoing a period of rapid transformation, driven by the rise of digital technologies and changing customer expectations. In recent years, one of the most significant trends has been the shift of Communication Service Providers (CSPs) from traditional telcos (telecommunication companies) to techcos (technology companies). But what does this shift actually mean, and why is it so crucial for telecom companies today?
What is a Techco? Historically, telcos have focused on providing basic connectivity services, such as voice, data, and video communication. Their role was centered around facilitating communication, often as utility providers. However, a techco goes beyond these foundational offerings by delivering an integrated ecosystem of digital services that span beyond connectivity. Techcos create additional value for customers by integrating digital services such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), online payments, media, and even advertising. This allows them to provide more comprehensive, end-to-end solutions that help businesses and consumers thrive in today’s digital-first world.
Why Telcos Need to Evolve ? The market for basic connectivity services like phone lines and internet access is nearing saturation. With increasing competition from over-the-top (OTT) platforms such as WhatsApp, Netflix, and Zoom, telcos must look beyond their traditional services to remain competitive and sustainable. In the techco world, the ability to innovate quickly, identify and meet customer needs, and move with agility is key. By embracing a techco model, telecom companies can expand their service portfolios and offer a broader array of digital products that generate new revenue streams and strengthen customer loyalty.
Key Drivers of the Telco-to-Techco Transition Several major factors are fueling the shift from telco to techco:
1. Shifting Customer Expectations: Customers now expect more than just connectivity. They demand seamless, integrated digital experiences that go beyond data services. Techcos can meet these expectations by providing enhanced solutions, such as AI-powered customer service, IoT-enabled smart homes, and cloud-based enterprise tools.
2. New Revenue Streams: The rise of digital services presents telecom companies with the opportunity to diversify their offerings and enter new markets. With OTT services eating into traditional revenue, the move toward techco enables telecoms to offer cutting-edge services like digital advertising, media streaming, and cloud computing.
3. 5G and IoT Acceleration: The rollout of 5G networks is a gamechanger for telcos. 5G not only brings faster connectivity but also supports advanced technologies like IoT, AI, and autonomous vehicles. By transitioning to a techco model, telecom companies can unlock new business opportunities in areas like smart cities, connected healthcare, and industrial IoT applications.
4. Leveraging Existing Infrastructure: One of the key advantages telcos have in this transformation is their established infrastructure. Telecom companies already possess the networking capabilities needed to deliver next-gen digital services, providing them with a competitive edge in the techco space.
Techco vs. Telco: What’s the Difference? The main distinction between a telco and a techco lies in their service offerings and approach to innovation.
• Telco: Focuses primarily on providing connectivity services, such as voice, data, and video. Telcos traditionally operate as utility providers offering basic communication services.
• Techco: Offers a wider array of digital services that include not only connectivity but also cloud computing, AI, digital media, and IoT. Techcos deliver complete digital ecosystems that enhance customer experiences, helping enterprises and individuals thrive in the digital age.
By adopting a techco model, telecom companies can offer their customers a more holistic, technology-driven service package that goes far beyond basic connectivity. This shift can also result in increased customer loyalty, greater market value, and access to new growth opportunities.

• Vodafone Group: Vodafone is focusing on platforms and partnerships to expand its digital offerings. By integrating 5G, IoT, cloud, and connectivity, the company has transformed from a traditional telco into a techco that provides end-to-end digital solutions.
• AT&T: AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner in 2016 marked a significant step toward becoming a techco. The move enabled AT&T to offer a "mobile-first" entertainment experience, diversifying its services beyond traditional telecom.
• Reliance Jio: Starting as a 4G provider, Reliance Jio has rapidly expanded into cloud computing, data centers, and OTT services. It now serves as a leading techco in India, with a strong portfolio of digital offerings.
Why Transitioning to Techco is Urgent? The telco-to-techco transition is no longer just an option—it’s a strategic imperative. Digital-first telecoms are growing revenues at an average rate of 20%, while traditional telcos are seeing growth rates of only 3%. The faster telecom companies make this shift, the sooner they can unlock new revenue streams and maintain relevance in an increasingly digital world. Moreover, as technologies like 5G, AI, and IoT continue to disrupt industries, telecom companies that remain focused solely on connectivity risk falling behind. By embracing the techco model, telecom companies can position themselves at the forefront of innovation, delivering not just connectivity, but comprehensive digital solutions that meet the demands of modern consumers and businesses.
Conclusion: The Future of Telecom is Techco? The transformation from telco to techco is crucial for any telecom company looking to survive and thrive in today's digital landscape. 10 Myths of Edge Computing — ACEIT
There are many colleges in Jaipur for Engineering but Arya College of Engineering & I.T is the Best college in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Myth 1: Edge computing means the end of the cloud
Far from ending the cloud, edge computing is an extension of the cloud, moving data processing closer to the source of data generation. Edge computing reduces the amount of raw data sent to the cloud, optimizing bandwidth usage and cloud processing costs. It also enables real-time data processing for applications requiring low latency.
Myth 2: Edge computing disrupts the convergence of IT and OT
On the contrary, edge computing bridges the information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) worlds. It facilitates seamless integration and communication between these traditionally distinct areas. Edge computing enables data from OT devices to be efficiently collected, pre-processed, and forwarded to cloud-based IT systems for further analysis.
Myth 3: Edge computing is only relevant for industrial use cases
While edge computing has seen widespread adoption in industries like manufacturing, energy, mining, and transportation, it also benefits many other sectors. For example, edge computing enables asset tracking, supply chain optimization, and cashierless payment in retail. Edge computing also drives innovation in government, healthcare, and financial services.
Myth 4: Edge computing is a single thing
Edge computing is neither a single entity nor market, but rather a way of recasting infrastructure boundaries beyond the data center depending on the use case, industry, or business function. The edge could be looked at as a location between the core (corporate or cloud data center) and the endpoints (smart sensors, devices, things) where the digital and physical worlds intersect.
Myth 5: Edge computing is new
While the concept of edge computing is not novel, advances in technology have made it more plausible and powerful. The cost of computing devices and sensors has fallen, more computing power is contained in smaller devices, and there's been an explosion in the volume of data generated and collected. New analytics tools make it possible to sort through this data more efficiently and economically.
Myth 6: Edge computing is a cloud killer
Cloud computing isn't going anywhere. Edge and cloud are complementary technologies. Cloud vendors will sell edge hardware and software that extend capabilities to various edges. However, edge computing does offer a new competitor to cloud vendors because other vendors like telcos and CDNs are offering edge cloud services.
Myth 7: IoT edge devices present a security risk
Modern IoT security solutions are increasingly based on the root-of-trust (RoT) technique, where cryptographic security algorithms are hosted and protected from physical attack in a hardened environment. The combination of hardware and software security subsystems ensures a strong defense against malicious attacks throughout the lifecycle of the application.
Myth 8: Edge processing can't support real-time applications
Emerging IoT applications like autonomous automobiles, industrial robotics, and remote tele-surgery require real-time responsiveness. Enhanced intelligence at the edge enables more local decision-making, resulting in near real-time responsiveness, and empowering a new generation of advanced applications.
Myth 9: Machine learning is confined to the data center
Machine learning (ML) techniques have matured, enabling ML models to be deployed in the cloud, with associated inferencing tasks being downloaded to edge devices. ML software stacks on the edge device benefit from advanced hardware acceleration. Cloud providers are also providing IoT software development kits (SDKs) that make it easier to connect to the cloud from an IoT device.
Myth 10: Edge devices will quickly be rendered obsolete by future wireless protocols
The various wireless communications protocols are governed by established standards bodies that manage the evolution of the respective standards to ensure backward compatibility. Furthermore, with increasing proportions of the functionality being implemented in software stacks, upgrades between versions can be accomplished by over-the-air (OTA) downloads. In conclusion, while edge computing is a transformative technology that empowers businesses to unlock their full potential, it is important to understand the realities behind the common misconceptions surrounding it. By addressing these myths, businesses can fully embrace the benefits offered by edge computing in today's digital landscape.
