whats your favorite obscure hc about each of the losers?
Fucking perfect thank you
1- Mike he reads books or articles like “how to understand woman”, “why women like jerks”, not because he wants to woo woman or is a nice guy or anything but just because he thinks it’s interesting
I don’t think he’d date anyone
Gives great dating advice tho
Reads manga Likes Junji Ito
“The manga/book was better” kind of guy
I don’t know why but I feel like he’d be this ENTP-ish dude who likes to gather information about a lot of useless things and likes to debate He likes film and game theories Watches MatPat for sure
Also he likes The Walking Dead and… zombies in general
Also I’m sorry but he likes Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson
He likes grindhouse movies and appreciates the gory details but is chill about it Likes cinematography in general
Watches video essays about movies
2- Richie
Unlike Mike, Richie isn’t chill about gory details and whenever someone gags while watching a movie he goes “You think that’s disgusting??? Lmaoooo that’s nothing.”
He’d be the type of guy who brags about being immune to disturbing shit
Google searches include “top ten disturbing movies of all time” “scariest movies ever” “movies worse than a serbian film”
Still likes pink guy and thinks Joji is a genius
Unironically loves the song “I Love Sex” by Pink Guy and listens to it at least once everyday
Uses Discord a lot
Always starts studying on the last day
I think he’d like history
Not like Mike tho, he just likes textbook history and world wars etc

Kinda lame about women, like he hears Jordan Peterson say something like “the eternal image of the divine feminine” or some shit like that and he goes “wow poetic. agreed”
Doesn’t read “How to woo women” books like Mike but thinks about it a lot that’s for sure
Likes Audrey Hepburn
And Steinbeck
Saves different versions of the same song to his mp3. “The Less I Know The Better but you’re crying in a bathroom” “The Less I Know The Better Slowed & Reverb Listen With Headphones” “The Less I Know The Better Nightcore”
Shares playlists with Eddie
ALWAYS. ALWAYS waits for the person who’s tying their shoes
He notices if someone is walking behind the group alone and walks back to accompany them
If no one laughs at your joke, he does
Bleached his hair once and regretted it immediately Writes poetry in his free time and makes Stan proofread it
Into psychology
Hands always in pockets
Probably owned lots of lego sets as a kid
People go to him for dating advice because he is seen as this “romantic guy”, I mean he is but he gives terrible dating advice
4-Stan
He likes geography
Literally knows all the flags in the world and all the capitals
Blindfold him and give him a country name, he can show you exactly where it is on the map

Has...beautiful hands
you know how some people cut the cothing labels because it irritates the back of their neck? Stan does that with everything he buys
5- Eddie

Has major Leonardo DiCaprio in The Basketball Diaries vibes
Dresses effortlessly
And likes basketball lol.
He just has… boy energy. If that makes sense. Boy next door
Likes to draw his friends
posts his drawings on Instagram
Has lots of OC’s but doesn’t know they’re called OC’s, just refers to them as “this character I created”
He likes being praised a lot ngl
His taste in memes is very similar to Richie’s
You know how they put a random word on top of a random image and it doesn’t make sense at all. He laughs at things like that. Like Richie sends him something like this:
ME WHEN I WHEN
BOTTOM TEXT
and he thinks it’s funny and loses his shit im sorry
Like someone sends a picture of Keanu Reeves to the groupchat and texts “g” and he thinks it’s funny???? He sees a picture of a cow in the backrooms and starts choking
He memorized every line in Boneless Pizza and can quote it wihtout stuttering. Like he would be sitting alone talking to himself saying shit like “ya pizza. Watchu want. 2 liter machine broke we got one liter tho. fuck you mean B.”

The secret brilliance behind Nickelodeon All Star Brawl‘s marketing
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the Nickelodeon fighting game after it was announced, progressing from mild interest to ironic excitement to unironic excitement for it. So many jokes and memes have been made about it that they’re almost impossible to avoid. But when I thought about it, I realized that that’s exactly what the marketing team for this game wanted. The idea of the game is so absurd that no one would expect it to exist, but they figured out a way to make absolutely sure that it would create just the right buzz to get people like me to take serious interest in it.
Watching the trailer again, I figured out that every character they picked to showcase in that minute and a half trailer were carefully and strategically chosen to cater to as many people as they could. Even the order of their appearance had deliberation behind it. Here are my thoughts:
Michelangelo comes first, establishing that the game is combat focused. After all, who better to show off first for a fighting game than a character that has already appeared as a playable character in at least two of them? Plus, the Ninja Turtles are the oldest characters in Nickelodeon’s library when you consider that they first aired in the 80′s, before Nickelodeon even started making cartoons. This is a character that everyone recognizes, parents included.
Lincoln Loud comes next, a more modern character that adults might not know but kids will. This is to quickly lure the kids, who have less patience than adults, into watching the rest of the trailer, assuring them that it won’t just be older characters like the turtles that show up.
Powdered Toast Man comes next to snatch up the other side of the equation, the adults/90′s kids who remember him from the original Ren and Stimpy show from 1991. I’m not sure if it’s still airing as reruns on Nick today, but considering I hear very little about the show online, I’m guessing not. This is a bit of a surprise to the adults who thought it’d be a kids’ game, so it lures those folks into staying for the rest of the trailer as well.
Sandy is important to show off early for a number of reasons. Spongebob is popular among kids and Millenials, and is arguably the only property here as well known as Ninja Turtles, so they’re luring in more fans. It also serves to imply that other Spongebob characters will join, as, even though Sandy’s passion for karate makes total sense for her to appear in a fighting game, you still can’t leave out Spongebob himself. Showing her first implies more possibilities of characters to come, proving it won’t just be a festival of protagonists like Jump Force was. It also shows off their female representation to keep women interested.
Patrick is just a fan favorite to get out of the way before the sponge shows up, so he’s only here to confirm that the game is going to be full of characters that people actually want to see.
Oblina was personally a shocker to me, as I barely remember Ahh Real Monsters from my own childhood, but I remember enough to know that she wasn’t the protagonist, necessarily. I also know it’s relatively obscure in comparison to Spongebob or Ren and Stimpy, so they proved that they are willing to take characters from more obscure shows that the young kids won’t remember. This solidified my interest as I could tell that they are doing more to cater to the 90s generation than just confirming Powdered Toast Man.
Nigel Thornberry is arguably their most important addition at the halfway point. Outside of Spongebob characters and maybe Stu Pickles, I would say Nigel is the internet’s favorite Nickelodeon character to use for memes. The marketing team had to have known this. After getting some of the core audiences hooked, they now have the memer crowd invested, ready to spread the word about the insanity of this game’s premise across the internet. This is exactly what happened, and why the trailer has 2 million views on Youtube right now.
Lucy Loud is shown off quickly to remind the younger crowd to keep watching, and to add a little bit more female representation.
Spongebob is shown off a little bit late, but since we were expecting him to show up, it’s just to make sure the casual fans who only know the big names stay watching.
Helga is an older character, but I recently saw a young kid wearing a Hey Arnold tee shirt at the supermarket, so I’m positive it’s being shown as reruns on Nick today, so most Nick fans of all ages will be excited about her. Moreover, since she came immediately after Spongebob, who is a protagonist that was introduced after Sandy, a side character from his show, it gives an implication that Arnold will also appear. Although he is not introduced in this trailer, it allows the fans to speculate that he will soon be showcased, perhaps in the next trailer. Also, she’s the fourth female character shown, confirming that the game is being fair and inclusive to both sexes and not simply catering to male gamers, like say, Jump Force or Dragonball Fighter Z.
Reptar is another shocker, because although Rugrats is very popular and well known throughout the generations, he is a very, very minor character in the show. He is literally a fictional character within a separate fictional universe. The marketing team threw him in to show off that just about any character from any Nick property, no matter how minor or obscure, has a chance of making it into this game. Again, this forces the fans to speculate about future announcements with even more creative thinking, as we now know that it won’t just be major characters joining the fray.
Zim is a well thought out choice because he caters to a specific crowd that I’d describe as the alternative niche. That is to say, there are people who are fans of Invader Zim who don’t watch other Nick shows, so they are luring in the folks you’d expect to see at Hot Topic and the like. It was an edgy show with a feel and fanbase unlike other shows of its era, so it’s important to use him to diversify the roster. They also showed off Gir as his assist, and although that may deconfirm him as playable, it still pleases the fans, who often prefer Gir over Zim.
Danny Phantom is the only character that comes strictly from the 2000s era, so they are making sure to maintain the attention of the teenagers who watched that show as kids.
Leonardo seems like an odd choice to end on, maybe even anticlimactic, since they started with Michelangelo, but it makes sense when you think about it. They couldn’t show just 1 turtle, or else it might imply that the game’s roster was small. But if they showed all 4 turtles, they would have needed to leave two other characters out of the trailer to make room for them, and they didn’t want to make it look like a Turtles fighting game with guest characters. So having exactly 2 turtles allows them to show off enough characters from other properties, while also confirming unofficially that the other turtles would appear later, since you can’t just have 2 of the 4 turtles in the game. By leaving it open like that, they’re giving an implication that the roster is going to be huge. So big that the turtles were just a small portion of it. They end the trailer this way to leave the crowd speculating again: how many characters will appear in total?
The only characters that curiously don’t show up in the trailer are the cast of the Avatar franchise, who are quite popular. However, one of the stages shown is clearly the Air Temple with Aang’s glider in plain sight, implying that Avatar characters will be announced later. Another smart move to instill hope in the fans.
Finally, the Rollback Netcode announcement that came afterward solidified a very important group- the serious/competitive gamers. For those who don’t know, rollback netcode is relatively new technology that speeds up online gameplay to cut down on input lag, which is super important for fighting games in particular, as they rely on strict timing more than other game genres. It’s so new, however, that not all competitive fighting games use it. Popular tournament fighters like Super Smash Bros, Tekken, and Dragonball Fighter Z have not implemented rollback netcode for their games yet, so of all games, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl beating them to the punch is causing a stir. This is a sign that the devs are putting serious effort into making the game enjoyable online, which could potentially help its chances to be taken seriously in competitive settings. Only time will tell if that truly happens, but it’s a sign of quality, nonetheless.
So ultimately, this short trailer and announcement manage to cater to dang near every crowd that may want to play it: Kids, teenagers, young adults in their 20s and 30s, parents in their 40s, men, women, memers, casual fans, alternative fans, and serious gamers, and opens up a ton of potential for speculation regarding new announcements. That’s a fantastic way to start off and explains why this game, which for all intents and purposes should have been nothing more than a thought experiment that people joke about in the car with friends, has been trending so much for the past two weeks. Congrats to the marketing team for what they put together.

Quick Thoughts of Strive Beta
Messed around on the beta for about 3 hours between last night and this morning and just wanted to give my thoughts on it so far.
General Things
For those wanting to download the Beta I believe you have to go onto the PSN website itself and search it up. It took all of yesterday to realize this and I’m still mad no instructions actually said this... I pre-order this game dammit.
From what I’ve played the netcode is very good. I think there were only 2 moments the game wouldn’t let me connect with someone. All of my games have been smooth so far with little if any lag.
The look, aesthetics, and animations all look very nice and are done very well. The action feels very fast-paced and bombastic. The explosion and fire effects are stellar and give some very nice feedback to your stronger attacks. Heavier counters have a nice zoom and slow down effect for maximum impact. This game wants to really sell you on that hype dear Lord am I buying it.
I know I was negative on the music of Strive in my last essay, but hearing it within the game itself has me warming up to it. On its own the songs feel a little out of place, but now that I’ve got the game’s beta in my hand and started playing it the music works. It kind of like moving and fighting along to a rock album. I’ve got a particular fondness for Giovanna’s theme now. The chill vibes I get from her theme combined with her personality sell me on her character a bit more now.
General Gameplay Things
I know the devs were saying that they wanted to make this game simpler, or at least more approached, but boy is this game a little more bare compared to Rev2. Just to give a quick rundown, you can only cancel Slash into Heavy Slash, Punch and Kick are more poking tools that can’t cancel into much aside from Specials, but you can also mash out 3 Punches in a row. Punch cannot be canceled into Kick, Slash, or Heavy Slash, nor can Kick cancel into Punch, Slash, or Heavy Slash unless in a Dust combo, not with the characters I was using at least (Ram, Zato, Chip, and Gio).
However, this is offset by the HUGE damage Slash and Heavy Slash can do, especially if you combo it properly with specials. Ram in particular has some evil stuff she can do with her Dauro loops. It’s a bit more like a more combo-based SamSho where you can be dead in just three or four short combos... just... without the teeth-grinding slowness of Samsho.
I’m a bit torn on this. While I think this kind of gameplay actually works pretty well for what it is, it’s such a different approach to Rev2 and even Accent Core Plus that I wouldn’t blame folks for being dismissive of it. There could be an honest argument for this being flash over substance given the lack of complexity on the surface. Not one I would make given my mixed opinion of Guilty Gear as a whole, but I could see that argument being made.
I think having Throw be 4/6D was probably the smartest move in this game. Now we don’t have to worry about having our 4/6HS command normals accidentally turn into throws and ruin a potential combo.
“Allen, why would you use 4/6HS up close raw? It’s typically very unsafe and can make you eat tons of damage.”
Hey... shut up.
Speaking of Dust, if it wasn’t a universal overhead before, making it one now gives it a lot more utility.
Ramlethal Things
I played mostly with Ram in my three hours with the game, so I’ve got the best grasp on how she plays out of the other three characters I messed with.
Ram’s very different from her Rev2 days. She no long has her Tekken-esque combos and a lot of her gameplay is now even more focused around her swords. She’d best at midrange, but can do a few things from close up and far away.
I don’t really like how you can’t call your swords back, but given the damage output when she has them equipped I think it’s a fair enough trade off.
Her Dauro loops are still a thing and boy can you do some mean things with them.
I don’t really like how a lot of her combos feels like they need a sweep or 2HS to do real damage, this is apparently the case for a lot of characters, but with Ram... I dunno’, I haven’t play around with her enough to be sure but it just feels kinda’ weird.
Mortobato is actually a pretty nice super in terms of utility, but I really miss having Explode. It was the coolest looking super in Ram’s kit back in Xrd.
Her new rekka special is pretty sweet, makes for a nice combo ender after a sweep.
Giovanna Things
I think this is the character I’m going to main in earnest. Ram is fun, but I can actually win matches with Giovanna with some competency since her damage is constant unlike Ram who needs her swords.
Like Chipp, she’s a rushdown character, but with less tools for mobility and is more about nailing people hard and fast with her kicks and staying close with her surprisingly far-reaching specials that can close the gap, at least that’s what I got from her after a few runs in training mode.
Her 6HS rekka looks really cool and I wish I could combo into better.
Apparently she turns all green and gets possessed by her ghost dog when she’s a max Tension, but the game doesn’t explain anything about this.I’m curious, but also annoyed that what looks like a gameplay function is hidden for the beta players. I understand wanting to keep things a surprise, but I’d rather that part of her be removed if it isn’t going to be discussed.
I heard a lot of talk about Giovanna being un-Guilty Gear and boring as a character. I’ve got a lot of negative opinions about these people, but I’ll at least say that after playing her I don’t believe this to be the case. She admitted has few tools, but her playstyle, animations, and character do feel like a Guilty Gear character. Her simplicity is what makes her stand out among all the nuttiness of Guilty Gear.
Think of it this way, a snarky, deadpanned, straightforward government worker being forced to deal with half-dragon bounty hunters and kings, assassins, sky pirates, ninja presidents, and Faust with only basic martial arts and a ghost dog to keep her on equal footing with the monsters of the cast stands out a lot more if she was quirky. She seems to be the straight man to all the craziness and I think she’ll have a lot of comedic moments with the cast if down well.
Zato Things
THE TRAILERS FUCKING LIED TO ME THIS IS STILL ZATO -FUCKING- 1
To keep this simple and to keep me from raging, Zato and Eddie still attack in tandem outside of the player’s influence. 5K with Zato will still make Eddie do ”That’s A Lot!”. Doing 5S will still have Eddie do Leap. This is gonna’ need an actual essay to explain in detail, but basically, Eddie is unwieldy in his movement speed and positioning, so properly doing combos with him is very difficult due to how hard it is to position him in your favor.
To be fair, Eddie can only do about two attacks when he’s summoned, and his animations are much clearer to read and react off of for both you and your opponent, but... it feels like all the playing Relius Clover if Ignis moved without your full input. Again, more detail in a proper essay.
Outside of that, you can actually do some really dirty stuff with Zato with you time things right. They did try to simplify Eddie but... it’s stil Zato-1 man.
Lobby Things
Yeah... this lobby kind of sucks. The aesthetic just looks very cheap compared to how nice the game looks. The blocky avatars don’t have the charming cuteness of Xrd’s avatar designs, and while I do think the method of getting matches is pretty simple, the overall way you do it feels sluggish and unneeded. I really wish Japanese fighting game developers didn’t try to make the lobbies as... immersive as they try to. This stuff peaked with Continuum Shift lobbies and have honestly gone downhill since then.
Overall, I’ve been liking what I’ve played of the beta, but I’m gonna’ need another day or two with it before having a full opinion. But so far so good, I’ve been either liking or appreciating most of the changes and things made, barring a few nitpicks and actual problems.

Ready, FIGHT!!!
Alright, since another episode came out, I'm back with my critique of the episode. But before that, two cautions! (1) SPOILER ALERT! Pls skip this if u haven't watch the ep13 of MLB season 3. (2) Since it came out French dub, pls forgive me if I may commit misinterpretations. I don't understand French. This is just a pure hunch on how I manage to understand the ep. Okay, here we go!
1. The Game Genre - I really like how this episode showed the game themed in video games. I mean, I can totally relate coz I've played Tekken few times in arcades. Haha Not only that, the characters they used as avatars are their previous enemies. I know it shouldn't or I should feel sorry but IT'S. REALLY. COOL!!!
2. The Akumatization of Max (pt.2) - Compare to his first akumatization, I would say that this one's way too low or not too deep compare to the feeling of losing on season 2. Imagine, he got akumatized just bec no one wants to play with him? Is that even reasonable? Ugh! C'mon! (Pls correct me if I'm wrong with this part).
3. Chat's Getting Better - Okay, going back to Max's challenge with LB and CN... There's a part where LB kept on losing to Gamer while Chat kept on winning. At first, I was disappointed that Chat used Mr. Pigeon as his avatar bec I thought he wouldn't win--BUT I TAKE THAT BACK! HAHA He's way better than LB on this episode. He took advantage of their knowledge of their enemies' abilities to use it as his weapon in winning every fight. And I like that! Haha Not to mention he used Reflekta bec he knows well how it feels like to be in that body and it worked! When he used Reflekta, it's kinda nostalgic for me and I can't help but giggled at his cuteness!
4. True Love - Okay... This is a bit emotional... On the last round before the boss, the coup--err... LB and CN's next opponent is one another. I expected that Chat would sacrifice himself or he will not fight. DAMN! IT DID HAPPEN! Ugh! Look how he's willing to sacrifice everything for LB! He truly loves her! He trusts her so much that LB will fix everything and put it all back to normal! I got teary eyes on that part! I've grown to love him more because of that! Chat Noir, I SALUTE YOU, MAN! T^T
5. Calm Down, Ladubug! - After Chat sacrificed himself, of course, it's hard to get your cool down with that. I felt how LB felt and I'm also glad that she managed to calm down and recollect her thoughts. What a bright idea that she used the right weapons in defeating Gamer. That's our almost-perfect Ladybug!
6. Dupain Cheng's - At the first scene of the episode, Tom asked Marinette to play with him but she refused since she's studying and finishing the shirt of Kitty Section. On the last scene before it ended, Marinette brought Max to their house to play video fames with her parents. I want to focus on this part a bit. Marinette has the coolest parents ever! I feel like I can finally see myself with my future family, playing video games with my kids as our bonding. Haha I mean, look at that! Only few parents give time to their children and bond with them--not to mention having the same interest as their child, playing video games, but the Dupain Cheng's... They're so cool! My words are not enough to express how cool they are. They're the ideal parents! I won't take back what I said last time that the "Dupain Chengs never cease to amaze me!"
Alright! I hope this helped freshen up and notice the small things on the episode. I'll look forward to the eng dub and for the upcoming episodes!

I think I have something to add to this if anyone is interested: examples. The question was “why couldn’t why couldn't a young healthy fighter take advantage of all that body strain and easier injuries that could cripple an old figher despite their experience?”
Two warriors meet on the field of combat in a duel. Both show up in the same armor, wielding the same weapons, ready to fight. Lets say its swords. The master swordsman in their sixties, if they kept up with reasonable exercise and drills, will be a little less physically powerful, a little less fast, and less able to go at it for minutes at a time, than the dedicated up and coming swordsman. However, when the fight starts, the experienced swordsman will spot openings that the less experienced swordsman has not yet learned to close. The experienced swordsman, can let a blow glance off their helm, or parry a little harder than necessary, and keep fighting effectively.
But only against other similarly experienced fighters.
Against the Master, the Experienced but Young swordsman will make a mistake early on, and the Master will destroy them. An opening the youngster has yet to close will be found, and taken advantage of, and the Master will end the fight.
In Martial Arts its all there too. A master martial artist will see a strike coming, move just enough as necessary, access the counter, and put the new warrior down. No matter how strong you are, how many hits you can take, a Master knows how to take you down regardless.
If it was a Boxing Match, or a UFC match, if that’s what you’re looking at for fighting inspiration? Yes, a master martial artist who is older will go down most of the time. Those fights, if you zoom out enough, are about Endurance. How many hits can you deliver, how many hits can you take, etc. That’s why they have rounds, and go for minutes at a time. The Master will not thrive there.
An example of this practice done well is Uncle Iroh in Avatar: THe Last Airbender. We almost never see Iroh go All Out, because he is Too Old For That Nonesense. It is only with the power of Sozin’s comet we get to see him let loose and show us how powerful he really is. He pulls no punches. We see Iroh, throughout the show, fight Technically. Smarter, creatively, using surprise and his enemies mistakes against them. I think he calls this situation out by name, honestly! He’s asked to fight Ozai, and he says “I don’t think I can beat him” in slightly different words. And this is why. Iroh would not be able to find an opening to exploit before his body simply gave out under the assault. We see Iroh take out young warriors with little experience in the fire nation guards and young earth benders throughout season 1. he fends off Azula’s firebenders in Season 2 and holds off some of the Dai Li at the end of that season. But these are short bouts, with specific conditions for victory that aren’t “put everyone down” you know? Escape, distract, redirect, that’s what we see him doing.
In stories, in battles and combat, you could make an old master who has that same strength and durability. Tekken’s Heihachi, for example. That’s a video game first, however, not a narrative-focused story with stakes like A:TLA. That could be a great antagonist or threat too. Someone who is equally intelligent AND able to take a beating on par with the hero?
Michi said it well at the end there: The name of the game is brains. Brains, even in a straight up fight, will find openings, weaknesses, and know the correct counter to whatever the younger fighter throws at them. They won’t be able to take as many hits, but an experienced fighter will know this going in, and will only need one to end the newcomer. In a boxing match, you can’t chop a wind-pipe when their chin is too high, or kick them in the nuts because they forgot to pay attention to their thigh positioning. But a master fighter will see that, and do it while the youngster is eagerly trying to throw the hardest right hook they can at the master’s face.
I'm trying to understand something that seems a bit contradictive. On one hand, you say old experienced fighters can easily beat young fighters solely through their experiences. However, you also say the more someone is in combat, the more wear and tear they have. So, why couldn't a young healthy fighter take advantage of all that body strain and easier injuries that could cripple an old figher despite their experience?
Congratulations. You’ve hit on the crux of most traditional martial arts narratives—the dangerous old timer versus the young up and comer.
The young have youth and virility at their physical peak. The old have experience and wisdom.
The Aliens vs Predator 1997 card game had a great reference about old fighters. It’s a line I really like, “a bit slower, a lot smarter.”
I’ll be completely honest, it’s difficult to really grasp the vast gap experience creates until you’ve had your ass handed to you by a guy pushing seventy. Or watched him shatter a wooden baseball bat with his shin. Or watched him float through the air nimbly like a butterfly with more agility and grace than you will likely ever manage.
The funny thing is that the old, wise martial arts master on the mountain isn’t just a trope or a joke. A person who has been training for forty to fifty years can be equal parts breathtaking, terrifying, and unforgettable.
It’s true, there’s more wear, tear, and strain on a thirty year old that’s been fighting for a decade than an eighteen year old. The problem is you’re just thinking about the physical body and not the experience they’ve gained fighting and surviving for those ten years beyond what their initial training offered. What they’ve learned is the difference, because the dumb ones and the unlucky ones are all dead.
A lot of writers have this problem with writing more experienced warriors and, ironically, a lot of young fighters have this problem with experienced warriors. They both have the problem of thinking the fight starts when the violence starts, and that all violence is force on force. If you think about your fight scene (and violence in general) like you’re clashing two action figures together, obviously the younger, less damaged toy is going to hold up better. The older toy is more likely to break first. Unfortunately, life isn’t that simple. Also, if you’re just clashing action figures, your fight scenes are going to be really boring.
The name of the game is brains. One of the most decisive aspects of combat is control. Controlling when the fight happens, controlling how the fight happens, controlling the speed of the fight, and ensuring the fight happens in the place of your choosing are all part of an experienced warrior’s repertoire. Depriving your opponent of their advantages while boosting your own is strategy.
This is why the experienced fighters often end up as antagonists because they’re best able to pressure the protagonist to learn and grow. Only by learning new techniques, to fight smarter, not harder can the protagonist defeat their antagonist.
The more experienced your fighter is, the more likely they are to be fighting smart. You’re right, they can no longer rely solely on their physical advantages but they’ve been gaining in time while they’ve been losing to time.
-Michi

Katsuya Terada / 寺田 克也 - Part 1: 1987-1993 http://cacazan.com/ http://katsuyaterada.tumblr.com/ https://www.facebook.com/katsuya.terra.terada Terada has worked on about 50 games in the past 30 years. He became famous in the West in the early 2000s with the release of the movie Blood: The Last vampire for which he designed the main characters, his cover girls and his huge artbook "Rakugaking". Paradoxically, nowadays , outside of Japan, his name is more often attached to the Zelda series, one of his earliest works -- from 1989 to 1995, he was a regular contributor to the North American magazine Nintendo Power for which he did many artworks, including illustrations for Link's Awakening and A Link to the Past. On a related note, some of his Link's Awakening artworks seem to be exclusive to the official German player's guide. To be confirmed: Lunatic Dawn / ルナテックドーン (illustration featured in Zenbu, probably a fanart) Marvel Trading Card Game (DS, Windows, PSP - 2007) maybe the game reuses pre-existent illustrations Optical Axis / オプティカル アクシス (line art dated 1992, not sure if it's a game)
I don't know if Terada has worked on the Tantei Jingūji Saburō series since the PS2 episodes, apart from the recent 3DS game for which he created the main illustration. Of course, since he designed the main characters of the series, he is probably credited in some if not all of these games.
