What do you think is the most character accurate fic you've ever read??

Ever read? That's an impossible question lmao. I have been reading fanfics since i was twelve. I have read fanfics I don't even remember 🫡

Obviously it's a subjective question to begin with but part of the fun of fanfic to me is exploring different avenues for characters according to different author's preferences and putting blorbos into incredibly un-canon Situations. But in a lot of those settings what is "in-character" is even more thrown asunder because it's so far removed from anything that would even remotely happen in canon.

I guess what I mean by that is a lot of the fics I read and love don't necessarily align with my personal ideas of/headcanons for a character, yet still remain "character accurate" in my esteem, if you will (I'm thinking, for example, of that one Gay!Roy fic which is EXCELLENT and incredibly in-character imo and yet I still don't personally think Roy The Character is gay. But even though that's generally not how I think of his sexuality I still liked exploring that alternative verse and still recognized that story's Roy as Roy. Does that make sense?)

The only reason Beard is awake this early in the morning is because Lavender is crying. It’s cool and dim in Rebecca’s bedroom, the perfect conditions for sleep, and he’s been deeply asleep until now. Even the crying layered over the slight electrical hum of the baby monitor is soothing in its familiarity, but Lavender gets louder almost immediately, upgrading from dissatisfied whimpers to a proper caterwaul...

Any thoughts on Jamie and Nate's feelings toward each other, especially post-S1?

I think Jamie feels a really weird type of kinship with Nate! It's strange and awkward for him to feel like maybe something of a role model and/or good example (for anything other than being good at football or whatever, you know). It's especially odd because Nate is both older than him and in a position of authority so it's like? This ain't right. But. There it is! So he's a little bit awkward, but on the other hand most of the time he's got other things to think about. It just Comes Up sometimes and he feels a bit strange lol.

Nate I think has not really connected his situation to Jamie's - not out of denial, just he feels more of a kinship with Beard instead, part out of just knowing him better, part out of having such a strong foundation of previously disliking Jamie and thinking they could never have anything in common, and part because of the Ted of it all. His main feeling about Jamie is just a lasting, surreal sense of pleasant surprise. He'll probably never fully get over that.
