Here are some matches I recently watched and enjoyed.
Mercedes Mone vs. Willow Nightingale (AEW Double or Nothing 2024) - I simply loved seeing Willow throw and smack Mercedes around and Mercedes performs pain-mania-insanity so well.
Leon vs Kaori Yoneyama (JWP Pure Slam 2005) - Tag team partners killing each other like only tag team partners can, close and personal and painful. Surprisingly good camera work given it's 2005 joshi.
Jimmy Rave vs. Nigel McGuinness (ROH The Fifth Year Festival: Finale) - Great heel performance from Rave as usual, and a unique match structured around a guard rail that gave me anxiety, because there's bits sticking out of it, dear god!
Combat Toyoda vs. Megumi Kudo (FMW Fighting Creation '96 - Day 11: 7th Anniversary Show) - Toyoda's retirement match, at the time, performed with all the blood, tears and drama she deserves. Just incredible melodrama and aesthetics, and Megumi suffers so beautifully.
Akira Taue & Toshiaki Kawada vs. Kenta Kobashi & Mitsuharu Misawa (AJPW Super Power Series 1995 - Day 15) - Leave Kobashi alone! Peak Japanese tag wrestling, building to emotional heights that you can only get when you take all that time to get there. Also it's always fun to watch the crowd react.
Nigel McGuinness vs. Kevin Steen (ROH Northern Navigation) - I love when Nigel gets to be that bitch.

Henderson literally plays in the Saudi league now and is not really needed in the England squad, there is no logical reason for Southgate to be starting him or even calling him up anymore, he can’t even use leadership as a reason because that England team is full of leaders. Like off the top of my head players that have captained in club football: Kane, trippier, Trent, rice, maguire, Gallagher etc there’s even other players that have not been called up who are leaders too, like mason, jwp, sterling. Southgate needs to go
Thank you anon 🩷
It’s true none of it makes sense

well anon we have no idea because Southgate always chooses his favourites like Phillips and Henderson who should be no where near the squad, he should be choosing mason and jwp instead. With the euros I think even if mason doesn’t go it won’t really make a big deal because Southgate is still in charge and we most likely won’t win, even though I’d love to see mason in the squad, I think it’s better for him to just concentrate on have a good rest of the season and playing well for united, if he makes the squad then great but if he doesn’t it’s not the end of the world and he’ll have more chances in the future
Honestly I’m so sad bc like you said England won’t win anything with Southgate in charge 😭 for the last at least 2 tournaments England had the imo most promising squad with a perfect mixture of experienced and young players and it could actually be even better at this point bc of how many amazing talents there are but his choices make it difficult every time…
Yeah I said that to Loz a while ago. Like obvs I want him to go and be part of that team, but he’s only 25 and there’s more chances to come 🙏🏼🤭

you know what makes the whole thing all the more heartbreaking? jesse literally asked gareth what he would have to do to get to the euros. and he done it all. actually exceeded expectations. he joined a mid table english club (when he could have won a trophy with inter), he won potm & gotm, he was arguably the most in form player in the league, & he out-performed all other competition from the minute he stepped on the pitch to the minute he stepped off it. he was stabbed in the back by someone he trusted once again.

RIP Hana Kimura (1997 - 2020)
(TW: Suicide, Self-harm)
Late last night the news came from STARDOM that Hana Kimura, at the far far too young age of 22, had passed away. I hate having to write this.
This incident comes at the end of a pretty rough week in pro wrestling, with the tragic deaths of both former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard, and 411mania.com’s Larry Csonka opening the week, and the deluge of emotion following the broadcast of the Owen Hart episode of VICE’s Dark Side Of The Ring in midweek. The going report is that it was a suicide, stemming from online bullying and harrassment stemming from her participation in the Japanese reality TV series Terrace House. Earlier, she had tweeted out with pics showing evidence of self-harm, the text of which was basically a farewell message.
Hana was a pro wrestling prodigy, what with her mother being joshi wrestler Kyoko Kimura, and her father, the wrestler/MMA fighter Isao Kimura. Indeed, her first title came at the tender age of 8 years old, winning the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight title on 8/21/2005 by pinning Tanny Mouse, before losing it a mere 20 minutes later after being pinned by her mother.
Having trained through Keiji Muto’s Wrestle-1 promotion, she formally joined W-1 in 2016, splitting time between there, STARDOM and JWP, before she left W-1 and joined STARDOM in 2019. In STARDOM, Hana won the 2019 5-Star Grand Prix, the Goddess of Stardom (tag-team) titles with Kagestu, and a 2-time Artist of Stardom (trios) champion, as well as the Fighting Spirit award winner in 2019. She’d also won titles in JWP, and wrestled in Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling: EVE and in Mexico.
(To make this on-topic for NJPW, Kimura featured in a STARDOM trios dark match at G1 Supercard last year in Madison Square Garden, and was on the losing side of a tag match with Giulia, falling to Mayu Iwatani & Arisa Hoshiki at the Tokyo Dome in a dark STARDOM Offer Match before the first night of Wrestle Kingdom 14 this past January 4.)
This is an absolute tragedy, and one that could have been completely avoided, were it not for the now-inherent toxicity of social media. Fans and fellow wrestlers are tweeting all sorts of stories since last night, talking how Hana Kimura was one of the nicest, most talented and most personable people in STARDOM and all of pro wrestling. This isn’t the first incident of a toxic fan culture (to be sure, not in wrestling, but of reality TV in this case) causing such an incident, and I have a sinking feeling it will not be the last.
All I can say to this is be well, treat others well, treat yourself well. Talk to someone if you need to. Anyone at all. It isn’t easy in these times, in this Hell world we’re all in at the moment.
Please take care of yourselves.
Goodbye, Hana. We’ll all miss you.

i don’t know why i keep thinking this, maybe it’s because of how joshi puroresu was booked in the 90s but i keep waiting for Ozaki to ordain someone as her heir apparent. Devil Masami kind of did that for Ozaki in JWP. Then on the periphery of that you have the rivalry with Akira Hokuto that was brief and quickly followed by teaming with Hokuto.. (because Ozaki is smart).
i feel like if she were going to pass the torch to anyone it would be to Saori Anou because it just seems like she’s been booked strongly and with a clear storyline/angle when it comes to her vs Oz Gumi and joining Oz Gumi.
I haven’t seen booking that clear and not convoluted since Ozaki forced Hiroyo to temporarily join Oz gumi.
i’m probably wrong
for some reason i find DASH Chisako to be more like Ozaki than any of Ozaki’s proteges. perhaps it’s because Chisako is very similar to the original Ozaki protege not named Carlos Amano, Chikayo Nagashima who seems to be in a semi-retired state.

Plum Day 2018 commemorative art by Junichi Tai
On August 15th 1997, Plum Mariko teamed with Command Bolshoi against Mayumi Ozaki and Rieko Amano (now Carlos Amano) at the Hiroshima Sun Plaza. At the matches conclusion, Ozaki used one of her regular moves, the Ligerbomb, to pin Mariko. The move was executed as usual, but appeared to have triggered a preexisting problem. Since other wrestlers on the card had sold their finishes that night, the fans in the arena didn’t immediately realize there was a problem. It seems this spot may not have been the planned finish of the match. In any case, Mariko was knocked out from the Ligerbomb and didn’t kick out. After the match, Ozaki and the other wrestlers saw Mariko, who still hadn't budged, snoring, which was a sign her brain was bleeding.
Mariko died a few hours later on August 16th 1997.
She was 29 years old.
No postmortem was performed on her at the request of her father. Despite this, Mariko was said to have had head injuries and a brain abscess which may have contributed to the head trauma that killed her.
Both JWP and Mayumi Ozaki's OZ Academy have held annual memorial shows ever since.

Lineup Lamentations - GW34
Our Transfers, Captains, and Starting 11s for the week + Walsh on Wildcard.
WALSH
TRANSFERS:
Wildcard madness. Will go full team below.
GK:
Ederson (cry)
Ederson & Foster. Pretty simple combo here. Will start Eddy this GW and look to Foster as a great BB backup GK option for their double in 35. City have kinda weird fixtures from here to the end of the season but I still expect them to pick up some cleans so will be happy to have Ederson I think for the rest of the year.
DEF:
Welp since Kane died and everything got turned upside down I went from never looking at anything but five at the back to starting three defenders. Robbo, Trent, and Duffy are my starters this GW with Kola and VVD on the bench. Despite spending a long time with Mo in my tinkers after Kane died I decided to back my gut which tells me Mo is not worth his price... Kola is just a whatever pick who I will BB in for 35 with one home fixture and has a good start in GW37. He'll be on the bench for all of their away fixtures as things currently stand. Can only hope that he plays both games in the double but am not too convinced about that.
Robertson & Alexander-Arnold (CHE)
I still think Livp are the best defense in the league and trebling for the rest of the season I can only hope will lead to big points. I'm going to bench the CB this week since I feel like the fullbacks have a better chance at an assist than he does for a goal.
Duffy (BOU & CAR)
Finally, Duffy is just a fairly straightforward pick. Alon kept it simple and told me on the pod he'd probably be in. I obviously am not going heavy into Brighton since they are shit ass but having their most attacking defender feels fine for a start this week, a BB option for 35, and then a cheap bench guy for the last few games.
MID:
The guy who I'm benching in mid is Doucoure. One of my favorite guys who should be a great BB option for the double in 35 and someone who I might start a couple times before the season is done. As for starters this week:
Eriksen & Son (HUD)
I'm doubling on Spud mids with Eriksen and Son. The team sheet against Huddy this weekend has been highly speculated about given the two City games incoming, and frankly, I have no idea how Poch will pick it. In the end, I am not where I want to be in terms of OR and I'm punting on Spurs being able to - even without Kane - putting some goals in against the shit opposition that they face through to the end of the season.
Sterling (cry)
I've decided to stand by Raz in the end, and despite great concern over whether or not he will start this weekend I just think they are the best attack in the division and I want to have him in. It's an upside play and hopefully it comes off.
Redmond (WOL)
I'm starting Redderz this weekend home to Wolves with not very high expectations. Wolves are a huge rogue wild card for the rest of the term to me as they could either fight hard for Europa or head to the beach. Either way, I think it's a pretty reasonable fixture for Redmond.
FWD:
Agüero (cry)
Kun is in. Not someone I played around with really too much and someone who I think should get a decent point return from now until the end of the season.
Deeney (ARS)
Deeney is another guy who I haven't really played around with. I think home Arsenal is a great attacking fixture and they will have their tails up for the rest of the season, I expect, leading up to the FA Cup final.
Llorente (HUD)
Last guy and really trickiest guy is Fernando Llorenthe. Welcome in the side you Spanish donk. I don't really rate him, but when I look at what fixtures Spurs have as well as how I expect Poch to pick the teams, Llorente seems phenomenal to me for these shitty fixtures while he will play pacy Son/Lukash up top type things against City. At 5.1 he feels a very good gamble.
CAP:
Llorente (HUD)
As you know, dear reader, City players are off limits as they roll up to Selhurst for my captaincy. Perhaps I am putting good money after bad with my failed Callum cap punt last week, but I am on Llorente. Hear me out. I am very concerned whether or not Son will start since I think he is much more important for them up against City. For this reason I'm off him for cap. Eriksen feels a likely starter but I don't know what he's going to be up to in any given week - it's like capping Hazard to me. Without Kane, and likely without Alli, I'm not sure how he'll go. This leads me to Llorente. He is a diabolical player to start against City since he's slow as fuck and can't counter. With two City games book-ending the Huddy game I'm backing my own intuition on this one and hoping that Poch will see it the same way. I think that literally every other attacker on the team will be more likely to sub off than Llorente as I think he is a complete non-option to start midweek...so the 90 is appealing. Even a shit donk like Llorente should be able to do things against one of the worst teams in the division we have ever seen as far as I'm concerned. Tip of the spear, tip of my penis, let's see it Fernando.
ALON
TRANSFERS:
OUT: Brooks, Luiz
IN (for -4 points hit): Son, Vertonghen
TLDR: Huddersfield are shit.
So I haven’t been around all week just been working my ass off and now we’re here and I was just sorta yolo let’s take a hit and get good guys in... Sorry to everyone on Slack/Twitter that I didn’t have time to get to... Anyway Sonny boy in with Kane dead feels sorta self-explanatory... When Kane is away Sonny boy will play. Takes up the role as their main goalscorer, main outlet, main shot-taker, etc.. Good guy. And Vert has the nailedness, the banker this week, the double, and then several more bankers to end the season. Seems good.
GK:
Heaton (CAR)
Not feeling great about a clean in this one as Cardiff need all the points in the world so they should be properly gung-ho.. Hopefully save points from Tom here.
DEF:
Vertonghen (HUD)
Yeah easy.
Alexander-Arnold & Matip (CHE)
Should be a tight matchup and a clean is realistic imo. But it’ll be fucking tough.
MID:
Salah (CHE)
We all heard Chelsea fans’ new favorite song about their former player Mo, the racist scumbags that they are... Need Mo to fuck these posh cunt rentboy fucks for the good of the universe.
Sterling (cry)
Raz is great and Palace’s defense is now garbage.
Son (HUD)
Sonny in. Hatty incoming.
Ward-Prowse (WOL)
It would be really cool if JWP went another run of goals in three matches in a row or something like that right now. Did it in GWs 22-24, and in 28-30, so I duno 34-36 seems good to me. Go on Hames.
FWD:
Aguero (cry)
Kun’s good... Not feeling confident he starts but he might do and then he might score lots of points. We shall see.
Rondón (lei)
Couple blanks in a row but Sal is still a friend, forever a friend, with actually very good attacking fixtures from now through the end of the season except for GW37. Maybe he’ll tit me.
Barnes (CAR)
Barnesy in a great fixture but who knows with this lunatic? Shake the magic 8-ball and you either get a red card, an own goal, a brace, a pen, conceding a pen, donkey performance, brexit merchant, or any of the above in combinations. Who knows. Hopefully it’s points for me.
BENCH:
McNeil (CAR)
CAP:
Son (HUD)
Going with who I consider my highest upside guy in Son. Really could be a hatty and I think with 3.5 full days off before City in UCL they should be fine legs wise to go out and just dumpster on the shittiest team in the division. Shrug.

EPL Preview 2022: Southampton
Last Year's Finish: 15th
Predicted Finish: 18th
Odds To Win EPL: 500-1 via OddsChecker
Prospects:
When Southampton are good, they are a top-half Premier League team. And when they are bad, they are relegation-grade fodder. Since Ralph Hasenhüttl pitched up in late 2018, the problem is that you never know which version you’re going to get. Unfortunately, that’s about the most exciting bit about being a Southampton fan right now. As of right now? They're relegation fodder
. After failing to replace Danny Ings at the start of last season, Southampton took 10 matches to win their first game, and finished the campaign with a worse goal difference (-24) than relegated Burnley, with only a purple patch in February keeping the club above the drop zone.
Transfers have been hit-or-miss for a while – the idea of Saints having a player good enough to sell to Liverpool these days seems a little far-fetched. This summer’s transfer policy of paying more than £23m for Manchester City academy players seems a little risky until you remember the success of both Tino Livramento and Armando Broja (from Chelsea) last season. If Southampton do one thing well, it’s spot a good youngster. It’s the rest of the recruitment you have to worry about.
The fate of their season depends on the fitness and form of captain James Ward-Prowse – top scorer (11 goals) and creator in chief (eight assists) last year – as well as whether they can find a goalscorer. Broja has gone back to Chelsea, and their only other goal threat, Che Adams has been a mixed bag.
Transfer Coup:
Many balked at the initial £12m deal for Roméo Lavia, an 18-year-old who had made just two senior appearances for Manchester City. That said? This is a player highly-rated by Pep Guardiola. Lavia was the sole teenage member of City’s academy to be named on their 21-strong squad for last season’s Champions League group stage and the Premier League champions have included a £40m buy-back clause in the deal with Saints. A defensive midfielder, the Belgian will provide competition for Oriol Romeu but has a better passing range and is more mobile than the Spaniard. Expect to see plenty of the youngster.
The Manager:
“After spending time with Hasenhüttl, I can say I really like him and he’s really smart.” So said the club’s new owner, Dragan Solak, upon taking over in January. Solak spoke about building a top-10 team, but the likelihood is Hasenhüttl will again be fighting relegation as this is a squad that needed an overhaul, not a tweak. Heavy defeats are not limited to the 9-0s: Southampton finished last season with two draws and 10 losses in 13 matches, with five of those defeats being by a margin of at least three goals. The "Alphine Klopp", his teams will press and pressure you, but his system needs talent at his disposal and quite frankly, this team either has no talent or is too young to be quantified as talent.
Outcome:
18th. Southampton is too reliant on the success and the prowess of one player - be it goals, assists or free-kicks from a man in James-Ward Prowse that should have already been called upon by a better squad. JWP deserves Euorpean football, but he remains the loan bright spot on a team in serious need of an overhaul. Perhaps JWP gets his wish and is sold in January, or perhaps he becomes relegation fodder when this team goes down, but Southampton will finish no better than 18th, which is a shame considering Hasenhüttl is a good manager with progressive tactics and proper man-management. He just doesn't have the talent.
