From Feeling Lost to Self-knowledge: How to Find Your Way

There are times when it seems you’re completely lost. There’s neither fulfillment, nor self-awareness. As if you are simply going with the flow, not knowing how it will work out, or if it leads anywhere at all. You don’t realize who you are, what you are supposed to do, or whether there is your precise path. These moments are especially hard to bear because you are lost even in your own thoughts and desires.

However, if you change your perspective, you can see that being lost isn’t the end of the road but its beginning. I’ve been through such times when I simply couldn’t understand where to go. At some point, I realized that there is no need to know the answers to all the questions at once. The main thing is to try new things.

You never know what you really want until you try. Every time you take on something new, you make a step forward. So yes, you mightn’t find the thing that grabs you right away, but at this point, the most important thing is not to be afraid of experiments. Try, fail, try again. Everyone goes through it. 

Sometimes we think that success comes immediately. We look at other people, see their achievements and compare ourselves to them which in turn foster a feeling of helplessness and loss. However, it’s   important to remember that everyone goes his own way and this way is unique. You have your own strong points, even if you haven't realized them yet.

Analyzing your strengths is a key step in finding yourself. Throughout your life, you show these sides in different situations but often don’t attach importance to them. Perhaps you are a good organizer, or you have a creative streak, or you know how to find a common language with people. Though you won’t be able to realize it if you don’t test yourself in different ways and don’t listen to yourself.

When you feel like you are going with the flow and don’t know where to go, it means that it’s time to listen to yourself. No matter how it sounds, no one can tell you who you are and what you want. It’s your personal challenge to find it out through actions and analysis. If you have no idea where to go right now, start by looking at your strong points. Remember situations you felt confident, moments when things went especially well. Perhaps that’s the hidden key to understanding what you need. Try, analyze, draw conclusions.

That’s okay if it doesn't work out right away. It's important to learn to be patient with yourself. No one finds his calling at a glance. It's a process that takes time and effort. If you keep moving, even when it seems like there's no way forward, you're already one step ahead. 

Times of uncertainty and loss are not failures. They are opportunities. Opportunities to explore yourself, try new things, and perhaps find your main passion. Even if it's not immediately, every small step brings you closer to a better understanding of yourself and your way.

So, that's fine if you feel like you can't do anything right now, if you're lost and don't know where to go. It's part of the process. Keep searching, keep trying, keep experimenting. One day you'll realize that it's been a necessary step in finding yourself.
