First Snow

alright the first one! im gonna start using honorifics in my stuff actually its pretty cute

Warnings: Mentions of Obbligato, and Tatsumi's chronic pain otherwise none!

For many, winter is a season of childlike glee, playfulness, and festivities. What with the constantly playing Christmas music, striking decorations littering the street, and the infectious cheerfulness spreading in the air. But at the same time, it could be as easily interpreted as a time for introspection and profound melancholy. With winter comes the end of the year, the culmination of everything one can experience coming to an end.

Winter was especially hard towards a certain Tatsumi Kazehaya, the biting cold being a bitter reminder of his wrongdoings. It was always around this time of the year that Tatsumi could feel the recurring pain on his leg at its worst, reminding him of the things he did in a certain winter prior.

He’s already grown past hating himself for what happened back then, in spite of that; he still can’t help but let his thoughts linger to that time in the past, wondering what he could have done differently. It didn’t help that he found himself alone more often than not as more of his fellow idols were starting to take breaks in order to prepare for their own personal things around this time of the year.

Though there was something different this year, seeing as he didn’t have to spend it in a hospital room all by his lonesome. Right now, he had wonderful people he could call his comrades, and even started patching things up with an old friend. But of course, what really made this year easier for him, was that you were there by his side.

Tatsumi was a man that treated his peers with respect and admiration, but when it came to you, he always seemed to unconsciously put you on a pedestal. He couldn’t place his finger on it at the time, as if his heart knew that you were going to be someone special to him the moment the two of you met.

He instinctively knew that you were different from the others. As much as he loves and appreciates his fellow idols, he can see that they always keep him at arm's length either due to his seniority or his more introverted nature. You, however, treated him as if he was just another guy.

This kind of behavior would usually be seen as quite disrespectful, but for Tatsumi, it was a total breath of fresh air. You didn't hold him to any overly high expectations, nor did you make him feel like he had to be more formal and reserved whenever you two were together. For treating him normally, he actually felt special for the first time in his life.

You didn't see him as the experienced solo idol that he once was, but as Tatsumi Kazehaya. Of course, you still held the basic ounces of respect for his talent and abilities, but never did you make him feel like he wasn't just another normal idol.

With that, it was no surprise that the two of you would become quick friends, the two of you displaying behavior akin to childhood friends who've been through thick and thin together even though you two had only met recently.

Tatsumi couldn't help but admire that part about you, how you seemed to just see things as they were without prejudice or discrimination. He knows that he should be happy that people see him as an amazing idol, but he honestly doesn't think of himself as someone worth that much regard. It's a very complicated feeling, but he's grateful that you can understand where he's coming from at the very least.

Before he knew it, the feelings of admiration he held for you blossomed into a deeper, more intense feeling. Whenever he was with you, he felt like he was truly at a place where he belonged. You never tried to make him be someone he was not, and never denied his complex emotions.

Truthfully, Tatsumi wanted to tell you how he felt, but there was still so much about him that you didn't know about. Things about his past that he was afraid to tell you. Though you were incredibly open-minded and kind, Tatsumi still couldn't quite bury the feelings of doubt lingering in his mind.

"Hey, Tatsumi-san? Are you okay?" Your words brought him out of his thoughts, Tatsumi himself surprised at how much complicated stuff he was thinking about. Though it was common for the two of you to just hang out in silence and enjoy each other's company, it seemed that Tatsumi was more out of it than he realized seeing as you had to call his attention.

"Ah, I'm fine, thank you. I was just thinking about some things." Tatsumi replied in that serene and calm tone he always has, adding a little chuckle to try and lighten the mood. "Times like this just make it easy to reminisce about all sorts of things, don't you agree?"

You pondered his words for a while, and Tatsumi couldn't help but find that expression of yours slightly cute. "Yeah, I totally get that. Since the year's about to end all, you just can't help but think about stuff that happened in the past." You gave him a soft smile and Tatsumi couldn't help but appreciate how you didn't immediately press him on what he was thinking about earlier.

"Indeed. I've experienced many new things and met a lot of amazing people. I'm very grateful to God that I was able to meet you, especially."

"Ahaha... When a serious person like Tatsumi-san says something like that, I can't help but get a bit flustered." You sheepishly replied, scratching the back of your head as the faintest hues of red shaded the tips of your ears. "I'm also really happy to have met you, Tatsumi-san."

Your straightforward honesty feels like an arrow straight to his heart, not to mention just the absolutely adorable expression you had on. "It's getting a bit cold, isn't it, (Y/N)-san? Shall we head back in?" He pointed towards the ES building, seeing as the two of you were just staying out in a public bench.

"Oh, sur-" You cut yourself off when you suddenly tilted your head upwards, being surprised at the first few instances of snow piling on top of your head. "Uwah... It's snowing, Tatsumi-san!" You said, grabbing as much as you could with your gloved hand before presenting it to the man in question.

When you beam at him like that, Tatsumi feels like he doesn't want you to be just another one of his friends. He wants to make you feel as comfortable and at ease as you make him. He wants to tell you all about his past because he just knows that if anyone would understand him, it'd be you.

He wants you to know him for everything that he was, all his good along with the bad. Knowing you, you'd probably scold him for his actions in the past, but ultimately sympathize and understand his actions. "Hey, (Y/N)-san."

You raised an eyebrow at his sudden serious tone, placing down the snow you were playing with on the ground. "If I told you that I wasn't a good person in the past, how would you react?" Part of Tatsumi wants to beat himself up for being so bold, but another part of him remains steadfast, knowing that he can't admit his feelings for you without this part first.

"Well, the Tatsumi-san right in front of me is a good person, isn't he? That just means he understood what he did wrong and is repenting in his own ways." Tatsumi's eyes went wide when you suddenly started patting him in the head, seeing as this kind of interaction was something that would never happen to him normally.

"You're the person you are today because of everything you experienced in the past, no? So even if you were bad before, you learned your lesson. That makes Tatsumi-san a very good boy!"

Geez, Tatsumi really couldn't win against you, could he? When you're this accepting of him, he can't help but fall even deeper for you than he already has. "Thank you for that, (Y/N)." His eyes were locked onto yours, and he felt like he could lose himself in them if he wasn't focused right now.

Tatsumi inched closer towards you, resting his forehead against yours and closing his eyes, trying his best to ignore the shocked yelp you let out. One day, he'll tell you the entire story, but for now, he hopes that this is enough.

"I love you."

Tatsumi removes his head from yours, slowly opening his eyes to see your smiling face, the snow falling around you framing you like some sort of angel. Winter is usually the saddest time of the year, seeing as it signals the end. But only through something ending does the chance of something new begins.

"I love you too, Tatsumi."

The very first one in our christmas countdown! i hope you all are having a good month so far, and i hope you look forward to the ones coming up!

i was gonna do this a while back, but then uni absolutely OBLITERATED my ass so i forgor. anyway. zombie voicelines separated into "who hasn't and who has been bitten by that point" and then the "hasn't" separated into who i believe wouldn't survive a zombie apocalypse and who i believe would + some details. with my sources being "me and the fact that i had a TWD phase"

Hinata (Yeah, I think the twins would actually do just fine on their own...

Yuta ... they'd have eachother's support and work fine as a team, yet they would never betray one another. The fact that they would overly rely on one another might kill them in the end, esp if one ends up dying, but otherwise, they could live to see society be rebuilt)

Rinne (similarly to Hiiro, I wanna say he'd do more than fine given his intellect and skills, HOWEVER. in his line he did make a bet that he could go through a whole horde of them without getting hurt. Risk taker. It could kill an otherwise perfect zombie apocalypse buddy)

HiMERU (He could do fine, but he might stick to being solo. Which means he might also just end up dead because of something as minor as a sprained ankle)

Kohaku (I believe in him)

Rei (Listen. I wanna say Rei could, but. I don't think he would. He'd last a few years, but that's it)

Koga (Nah)

Adonis (I believe in him)

Tomoya (I feel like he'd survive a good few months, probably far longer than expected. Actually, maybe a few years, but if he's in a capable group)

Most of the stuff I have planned out at the moment are just the roles but this still ended up being somewhat long because of formatting so everything is undercut

The St Spell's one hasn't been that thought out yet, I literally just came up with it yesterday. I'm thinking about whether to keep the original St Spell's character, or to make it Ensemble Square but, it's been replaced with a magic school (I have no idea how else to word this)

Mayoi in PriPara Outfits Part 2

This is another suuuuuuper long post of me messing around with what pripara fits mayoi might wear ! Lovey Dovey Valentine from Holic Trick !! most of these will be from holic trick again unless stated otherwise ! I saw this and had a clear vision of what i wanted and i saw that through and could not be happier, I love this one's original dress design so dam much

British Gentle !! whats up stupid pants (affectionate) how are we feeling, only one version cuz the original already has shorts :] i didn't know how to feel about the wavy edges at first but they're kinda growing on me the more i look at them u kno, another very 3star outfit, mayoi only plopped in there so he can have a good time (debatable)

Star Marine Cool !! the small ass hat is so funny why is it so small !!!!! her head is not covered !!!!!!! no ones getting any shade in this situation !!!!!! so i made the dam hat bigger when i let myself alter the fit for the more masc vers and also gave him a whole wetsuit beneath cuz idk he strikes me as a wet suit kinda guy. when's the kanata 5star mayoi 4star wetsuit theme scout gonna come out it's gotta be in the happyele drafts somewhere for the far future. also felt bad for the no shade so i made a wee version of the original outfit but with a bigger hat

Classic Heart !! another one i had a clear vision for and am glad i could see it through. i luvv open backs i think it's only a matter of time before mayoi gets an open back outfit speaking of cool back designs i was killed and maimed and died when i saw the flower detail on the back of the vermilion outfit i never recovered i live for pretty back designs someone save me, anyway he's also kinda peacock with the suit tail too since it's already a behind-heavy design, what a pretty bird mayoi is

PriPara Nurse Peace !! Mayoi gets a little sophy ahoge for the occasion cuz it's so cute with the little hat it's so necessary to the outfit, and then also theres an orange and yellow version that leona wears trust me non-priparers it's true so i couldn't resist ninja associationing it up

1. Who is your main idol identity? Do you have multiple? Feel free to list as many as you want!

my main is and always will be the one and only izumi sena of knights and ensemble stars fame. i have other big / core ones but he is my #1 spiritual connection, #1 kin, etc. its all about him. ena from pjsk i don’t consider an idol but she’s also huge for me, and it’s a music franchise so worth mentioning i suppose. my biggests from enstars are izumi, koga, mika, natsume, and hiiro i think. other sources, i highly kin chisato from bandori and you from love live who are idols. - 🏹

My main two are Rei and Leo from Enstars! I kin a lot more from ES as well, but outside of that I do have like music sourced kins (bandori, aaside, etc) but I don't really consider them for this ask game since they're in bands and not really "idols" per say. From Enstars I also am Eichi, Shu, Mao, Keito, Kanata, Hajime, Rinne, Tsumugi, Nagisa, and Tatsumi. - 🪽

2. What Unit(s) were you in? What were the people in them like? Were you ever a solo idol?

i’ll just talk about enstars to limit this list a bit. all my enstars kins have at least one canon where i was in the “correct” unit (hokuto, chiaki, hiiro, jun, mika, niki, koga, tomoya, izumi, natsume). i have a natsume canon where i was in trickstar instead of makoto. i have an izumi canon where i was still in knights, but we became four people as leo ended up leaving for good. as mika i remember some very distinct non-canon shuffle unit projects that were important to me, including one that had myself koga jun and mao together for a shuffle unit related to some sort of fashion or modeling thing with kind of edgy clothes. in one of my koga canons i had a pretty prominent solo career while i was still in undead, but also making and releasing my own music on the side as a personal project type thing. the people in my units are my loved ones much more often than not. knights, undead, switch, the other halves of eve and valkyrie, even more. these are people who have planted themselves deep into my heart. i don’t remember solo careers other than koga but i won’t rule it as a possibility. but my units are always really important to me. - 🏹

In all of those, I was pretty much in the same units except for alternate canons as Mao (Knights) and Tsumugi (Eden?). I'll mostly just talk for Rei and Leo since I cover like... all units with those and I don't want to talk about everyone in an ask. In Undead, we all had really close friendships I think. I saw Adonis as another younger sibling and Kaoru was like my best friend. Koga and I got together and were eventually married (in my main TL) but we all were just really close! Not a lot of bad blood in my opinion. Koga butted heads with us but it was never anything extremely serious. As for Leo, LOL. We all fought a lot but at the end of the day we all loved eachother I'm pretty sure! I got along well with everyone and had the most struggles with Sena and Suo... Naru looked after me a lot and fussed about me which got a little much sometimes but not super bad. Rittsu and I never really fought from my memory? We spent a lot of time snuggled and napping together and just relaxing honestly. And while i was loud he never really minded my noise, unlike Sena. Sena and I were together and lived together too later down the line but we clashed a lot in our differing autism and other mental issues. We're always good for eachother and love eachother and nothing can change that though. At the end of the day things are okay. Suo though I just see too much of myself in so we struggle a lot. I don't have the most memories with him because early on I just didn't care all too much but hopefully I'll remember more down the line because he really is a special kid. - 🪽

he was the first enstars character i properly looked up bc i saw him on a mutuals's post and went "ooh pretty character" and now im utterly obsessed with him and while he doesnt have as much backstory as i would like i've also read his wiki page front to back like five times sooo... anw actually lore time now

so he quite literally has said that he wasnt treated like a human as a child and before moving into the ensemble square dorms he used to live underground. he quite literally almost lives in the vents and he used that to catch mouse drones once. he has intrusive thoughts and sometimes blurts them out when stressed so some people think he dangerous but he does have people who care about him and know that he's not and the thing is he's so self deprecating and berates himself for the intrusive thoughts and he cares, so, so much for the people around him like one time aira, had trouble practicing and mayoi consistently checked up on him to the point that aira was worried about him instead. and also he has horrible social anxiety and has literally been paralyzed in large crowds but he's such a good performer actually like he canonically anonymously helped younger idols to get better, like he's so skilled he can created dishes he's seen on the menu once he can created super detailed dioramas and its hinted he knows more than one language?? like??? he's wonderful he liked stuffed animals and grapes and tatsumi literally called mayoi his spouse and the teams mother. and mayoi is canonically like the one person tatsumi has talked about what happened at reimei to and mayoi said he wanted to accept the darker parts of tatsumi bc tatsumi accepted him and!! and the event story for his solo song was about him having more confidence in himself and being braver and he's trying his best to make sure that the faith people have in him doesnt go to waste and!! alkaloid cares about him a lot too like when mayoi said he wasn't used to being thanked the literal next thing they did plan on thanking him everyday for being alive and i follow a mayoi quote bot on twitter and. istg. he wants to be loved so bad but he's not used to it and he's ready to sacrifice himself for the people who love him despite the fact that those people just want him to be happy

he's my favorite little phantom of the opera kinnie and the day his backstory drops i will be the most insufferable person on this site and the fact that that day might be this summer drives me absolute fucking insane if we get a mayoi tour you will be hearing from me in my fucking grave

Project Sekai Characters' Favorite Enstars Units/Songs

Note: these are all very much headcanons with a little bit of personal bias. Feel free to add your own ideas!

Leo/need

Ichika: listens to Trickstar (protagonists supporting protagonists). Generally likes all the idols and supports them all.

Saki: The only shuffle unit I currently know is A to Z (and will probably always be my favorite) and I think Saki would like it too. Occasionally listens to fine with Tsukasa because he likes Wataru.

Honami: also a fan of Trickstar, particularly Infinite Star. Does drum covers of their songs as practice.

Shiho: UNDEAD, mainly for Koga and how he plays guitar. Also uses their songs for practice.

MORE MORE JUMP!

Minori: she'll claim she loves all idols equally but is biased towards ALKALOID, specifically Aira. She sees a lot of herself in him so she quickly becomes his fan and always cheers him on. Wants to see a Live but is currently broke from spending too much on idol merch.

Haruka: surprisingly, she's a fan of Tatsumi when he was a solo idol. Was devastated when he got injured but is happy to see him with a new group. Also finds the rest of ALKALOID endearing.

Airi: because she did a lot of variety shows, she probably knows every Ra*bits and Ryusetai choreography by heart. Is inspired by Nazuna and Chiaki because of how much work they put into their units.

Shizuku: respects Knights and Makoto as both models and idols. Tried listening to UNDEAD to see why Shiho likes them and is now probably a bigger fan than her.

Vivid BAD SQUAD

Kohane: big Ra*bits fan and also a fan of MaM. She finds Madara's songs inspirational and listens to them while she does homework.

An: Eden, particularly Dance in the Apocalypse. Also a huge fan of Arashi's solo (girls supporting girls)

Akito: huge Crazy:B fan. Probably tried to imitate Rinne once and got yelled at by Ena.

Touya: becomes a Crazy:B fan by proxy because of Akito but also slowly becomes a Valkyrie fan by using their music as exposure therapy. Particularly fond of Artistic Partisan and occasionally listens to fine because of Tsukasa

Wonderlands x Showtime

Tsukasa: a fan of fine purely for Wataru (dramatic theater nerd solidarity). Listens to his solo religiously. Also a huge fan of Ryuseitai

Rui: idk how to explain myself but UNDEAD. Also Switch for the magic aesthetics.

Nene: big fan of Trickstar and Eden because they helped make game theme songs

Emu: Ra*bits!! Loves their aesthetic and how super joyful their songs are. Constantly sings and dances their songs in the middle of practice. Also loves Sora's solo

Nightcord at 25

Kanade: is a big fan of Leo as a composer. Occasionally listens to Knights but doesn't listen to much because she's too busy composing. Occasionally listens to Shu's solo and moratorium wings for the vibes

Mafuyu: doesn't particularly care for any of the idols. However, she thinks she feels warm when she listens to Knights' Silent Oath and gets colder when she stumbles upon Mika's solo or past Valkyrie.

Ena: appreciates Valkyrie's aesthetic and surprisingly Jun from Eden; she listens to their songs while she draws. She also used to occasionally listen to HiMERU when he was a solo idol, and she hears him daily because Akito blasts Crazy:B, but she feels like he sounds different from before and isn't as interested.

Mizuki: big fan of Knights mainly for Arashi because she's a trans icon. Probably likes all of Pretty 5 so they occasionally listen to some of their songs or at least their solos. Jewel Stone always plays when they get ready for their day

Bonus

Ken (An's dad): was a fan of DEAD MANZ before they disbanded. He'd occasionally check in for updates and was happy to see Rei create a new unit and seemed happier. Would take An to see an UNDEAD Live.

Harumichi (Touya's dad): got into Valkyrie because of Touya. Appreciates the use of classical music and the stories they create with their songs. Probably also likes the original fine and Leo as a composer.

Here he was finally in the big city, after coming here from Tatsumi Port Island his hometown, and while it was a city in its own, this one was much more bigger, thankfully since he was also from a city, it wouldn’t take him long to adjust and adapt to it. His first day at Hopes Peak would be in three days, he only decided to come a few days earlier because he had a Paranormal Investigation in a nearby town just across the coast of the city the day before. In the morning, he had boarded the first boat that took him across to his destination. 

After a few short interviews for a few paranormal magazine companies, by the afternoon, he was finally free for the day. Minato helped himself to some lunch at a nearby ramen shop, instead of just eating it all in one slurp*Like he often did) since he had no other plans for the day, he decided to just take his time with it, and enjoy the moment it had been a while since he had ramen last after all, especially with his busy schedule. At least his associates with the television network were very understanding when he mentioned he’d be busy for a while the moment his first day at Hopes Peak would begin.

With the remainder of his free time, without anything else in mind to do to pass the time, as he walked down the street from the ramen shop, he saw the lights from the neon sign of the local video game arcade. From first glance, Minato didn’t seem like the type who was a gamer, yet video games were a big part of his days in Junior high, but now here he most certainly was, he even had a PSP, and a 3DS, two items which he had also taken with him on this trip, it would have been a crime to leave them behind as he assumed that probably be most of what he does when sitting in his dorm room whenever he wasn’t in class, and he made sure to bring all of his games for both of the respective handheld gaming consoles.

Now that he thought about it, it had been a while since he’d last been to one of these hadn’t it? This visit was a long overdue one, whenever he wasn’t investigating locations, he was spending his time listening to music, doing more research on the Paranormal or bided his time playing games at the arcade if he felt like going out somewhere rather than staying in. He also had heard that there was a new horror game, one of those rail shooters and from all he heard about the game, it sounded pretty fun, it was supposed to be a mix of Doom and House Of The Dead, and that sounded pretty fun, as he did enjoy both of the aforementioned game series.

Pushing the double doors open, he was greeted by the sound of several arcade games, the pings and dings of pinball machines, the roar of cars for the racing games, the punches and kicks of fighting games and beat em ups, he had forgotten how lively these places were. Much to his luck, the new game he heard so much about was free, it was a two-player game but also had a solo option. The game was called Bloodhaven Manner, it followed a special task force that specialized in exterminating monsters and creatures all of Paranormal descent -- one of the main reasons why this game caught his interest and also because he just liked all things pertaining to horror. Walking to the gun on the right, with the arcade machine showcasing gameplay footage, with three words blinking at the bottom of the screen. Please Insert Coin. Doing so, the gameplay vanishes and returns to the main screen with a scary voice saying the title of the game. 

Picking up the blue gun in front of him, he shoots the solo play option, but like any other game machine here, anyone could enter the game at any time, but no one seemed to be playing this right now, so he figured he’d take advantage of it while it wasn’t preoccupied. As soon as the game begins, the screen flips to a quick cutscene of a team entering the mansion on a stormy night. The moment the doors open, his crosshair appears on screen and many supernatural creatures began to pop up, some creatures with long dangly arms that attacked by swinging from the ceilings to strike so timing was important with these enemies, his hearth bar showed he could take maximum of six hits before dying, something he’d keep in mind as he played on. It didn’t take Minato too long to get right into it, in a matter of minutes, he was shooting every single creature the very moment they appeared -- not even giving them a chance to attack. The more he killed without being hit, the higher his score climbed. 

After several minutes, Minato found himself at the first boss battle, a giant beast that looked like a twisted and even more warped version of Krampus. Prepping himself for the battle, his fingers curled tighter around the handle of the gun, making sure his index finger was half-curled over the trigger so he could take quick shots and still be able to reload in time by cocking the top of the gun whenever the word reload appeared over his ammunition chamber which limited him to eight shots. While the cutscene slowly ending, as he got ready to return his focus to the game, he heard the metallic clunk of a coin being put into the coin slot on the player 2 side. With a beep, the game says. 

Player 2 has entered the game

Taking a quick glance as his mystery partner, it was a girl with pale mauve hair with a slight outwards curl with pink-colored eyes that seemed to have a bit of a sleepy look, but it suited her well. From first glance, he guessed that she was around his age, maybe one year younger at most. She was pretty cute too, he wasn’t expecting to have a second player, but he was perfectly fine with it, he didn’t mind at all. So instead of complaining, he just gave her a short smile and a nod to her. 

[{ 🦋 }] - “Let’s waste this goatman.” And with that, the game begins, and the boss makes it’s first attack by swiping at them with his claws, but the moment he saw the beasts hand move not even an inch, right away he shoots it stopping the boss from making the first attack, the defensive shot pushing it back and leaving it open for some shots. Not wasting the chance, he quickly takes aim, quickly pointing it at the boss and unloading more shots. For joining in randomly during the first boss fight, she was actually doing really well.

[{ 🦋 }] - “You got some good aim, you play this before?” He asks, trying to attempt a conversation, all the while still maintaining to keep good focus on the game as he chatted, no sense in making this awkward with silence.

Until 2 hours ago i could've said, with delight, that it was Der Vorname (a german adaptation of the French "Le Prénom", which again is an adaptation of a play under the same name) which is a delightful comedy mocking the culture of german upper middle class. Unfortunately as of now it is Fargo, which is one of the funniest movies i've ever seen but despite the positive reviews in my personal opinion by no means a good one

Any enstars content i can get my hands on but still not nearly enough because of time issues and the need for sleep. Terrible and unfair.

Currently craving:

More enstars, specific scenes between characters and meta talk about characters and stuff, more enstars stuff to read, the ability to write or create visual art, the release of the full akatsuki solos. Also something to drink i just realized i am very thirsty

I drew some adult!headcanons for the Investigation Team~~ I have some specific headcanons under the cut as well, but the most important thing to mention is that the found family lives on!

Yu Narukami

Yu moved to the U.S for college with his parents, and stayed there until 2017 when he graduated - which was also when his parents’ marriage fell apart and his mother returned to Japan. His major was going to be in Law, but part way through he realised that he was better suited for psychiatric work, and now has a degree in Psychology. He currently lives in a Tokyo apartment with Yosuke and their kitten, where he’s doing an apprenticeship at Maki Sonomura’s mental health clinic. He doesn’t do much with Persona anymore, but he did take up kendo, not quite certain how true Sho will be to his ‘I will kill you’ promise.

Rise Kujikawa

Rise’s idol career peaked in 2015/16, but she’s still nationally recognised as one of the most popular performers in her field. The biographical album she’s currently working on, ‘Never More’, will likely be her last, though she fully intends to remain in showbiz as long as she can hold out - only as an actress instead. Notably, in 2018 she played the role of the antagonist in the Featherman Musical. Her grandmother retired in 2019, so her parents moved to Inaba to take over the tofu shop, and she intends to follow suit once her idol career ends.

Yosuke Hanamura

Yosuke still has no idea what he’s doing with his life. He studied business in college just because he was good at it, but spent much more time enjoying his student life than studying. He’s currently living in Tokyo with Yu, supervising a newly built nearby branch of Junes, and plays bass in a band with his college friends on weekends. Around 2016, at the height of the Phantom Thieves incident, he became very self-reflective, and set out to better himself, working hard to atone for the Yosuke he had been in high school. His friends agree he’s the one who has changed the most.

Teddie

Teddie (and Labrys) decided he was going to try to become more of an ‘independent bear’ when Yosuke left for college. He attended and graduated Yasogami High, and then kept his job at Junes for a few years while he learned the basics of adulthood, though he remained in the Hanamura household in Yosuke’s old room. Eventually, he collaborated with Kanji to produce a line of Teddie merchandise at Junes, which gave both of their careers a huge boost. His current business venture: selling his custom glasses frames. 

Yukiko Amagi

Though Yukiko was determined to take over the family inn, she did not actually do so completely until 2019. Instead, with a push from her friends and family, she took a brief apprenticeship through college, assisting the management of a huge hotel in the city. During this time, she realised she actually did have feelings for Chie, and they started dating in 2018, moving in together back home in Inaba after her apprenticeship ended and Chie graduated. (Plot twist, none of her career choices last. In her 30s she realises she should have - as all her friends did - listened to her Shadow and not taken over the Inn.)

Chie Satonaka

Chie pretty much did everything she said she was going to do after graduating high school, only with a slightly supernatural twist. Due to Inaba being the most high-risk place in all Japan for Shadow incidents, the Kirijo Group set up a headquarters there and the Inaba PD was given a group of Persona users masquerading as regular officers to protect the town from any future attacks. Realising she could combine her new skills with her unique Persona ability, Chie volunteered to be part of this group. She now lives with Yukiko and their dog in Inaba, fiercely training herself for when the world needs her.

Kanji Tatsumi

Defying all odds, Kanji attended college after graduating high-school, majoring in textiles and later going through teacher training so he could pass on his skills. In the meanwhile, thanks in part to Teddie, his work became known online, and he started selling his plushies all over the world. In their third year of high school, he finally became close with Naoto, and they eventually started dating. They’re married now, and they currently live together in a Shibuya apartment with their two cats, where an entire room is just filled to the brim with Kanji’s plushie commissions. It’s the cutest room in the house.

Naoto Shirogane

Naoto became more well known across Japan after the Inaba murders became publicised nationally and they set off on a solo career without the aid of their grandfather. Notably, the Shirogane Agency became the Shadow Operatives’ most trusted ally, and when the mental shutdowns began, Mitsuru asked Naoto personally to look into them, and they ended up closely investigating one Goro Akechi. They took a prolonged leave of absence at the tail end of the Phantom Thieves incident, when their grandfather suddenly died and their mental wellbeing took a serious hit. It wasn’t until late 2018 that the original Detective Prince started working again.

Jun: That's gotta be the stageplay for me. It was a real valuable experience, and I feel that by toughing it out through the performance I've really broadened my perspective.

Jun: Let's see... My work as Eden, or Eve, or Lilith or even when I go solo are all a lil' different from each other, but...

So what you're saying is.... if I've got it in me to become any kinda idol, then the only way my outfit would be worth it is if it'd suit that future version of me, no matter how I turn out.

Hiyori: If I were to confirm it, then it wouldn't be your answer but rather my own, no?

Jun: (I was so caught up brainstorming my personalised outfit over lunch that I'm cutting it real close for time. ES may be nearby, but I can't afford to stay here any longer...)

Nagisa: ...Jun, wait. You forgot this.

Jun: Oh man— I forgot the most important thing for the meeting. Thank you, Nagi-senpai.

I don't have my name written on the cover or anything, but you still knew it was mine, huh?

Nagisa: ...I figured it was yours once I looked inside it, Jun. Both the writing and the art felt like they'd be yours.

Jun: I feel kinda embarrassed that you saw, actually... Sorry for my cruddy drawings and the scribbly mess inside.

Nagisa: ...Why do you apologise?

...Jun, perhaps you may feel that you're standing in the wilderness, but...

...you can turn those surrounding plains into a land rich in harvest, or even into fields full of flowers. Within you, there's a path that continues towards such a future.

Aira and Rinne's views on idols are some of the most prominent in the main story, so I'd love to see an expansion after the fact with how they interact with others, which we've been getting!

I think it's interesting to note that Aira has a lot of preconceived notions about the specific cast - for example, seeing Mika as "mysterious" due to Valk's image (which Mika expressed frustration about in Neverland bc he feels he can't communicate with the press properly), seeing Arashi as egoistic and hard-to-deal-with in Pretty Mission (while Arashi wants to be there for others), etc. Meanwhile, Rinne has more of a broad view before he's crushed by the industry, not even knowing the name of the idol he first heard.

I love that you mentioned HiMERU and Rinne's clashing ideals, because it ties back really well into Rinne's idea of the industry! HiMERU is becoming the idol he thinks Kaname would've been had the system not been turned against him. However, HiMERU's view of an "ideal" idol is one that the system created - he actively shuns those involved in the revolution (esp Tatsumi), as he finds them responsible for Kaname's condition, when Kaname wanted to become an idol within that revolution who challenged those ideals. In a way, HiMERU's involvement in Crazy:B with Rinne puts him closer to Kaname's vision than what he was doing as a solo artist - someone who embraces the new, but in a way where fairness is advocated and everyone can compete on an equal playing field. Rinne knowing his secret and his insistence on HiMERU becoming an individual also ensures that HiMERU sees himself as a person - OreMERU - rather than an extension of Kaname's broken dream.

Back to Aira and Rinne, Aira's way of tackling Hiiro's more questionable beliefs is very direct, as opposed to Mayoi and Tatsumi's gentle nudging. While this can be counterintuitive with some people, I feel this is very realistic considering Aira's position, and also exactly what Hiiro needs. Hiiro isn't dumb - he mentions fairly early on in the middle of !! MS that he wants to figure out his beliefs for himself now that he's been presented with so.many conflicting opinions. However, Hiiro often falls into the trap of believing that some sacrifices are necessary to maintain a peaceful society (much like Eichi), even when these sacrifices can be avoided. Hiiro doesn't like conflict - he thinks it should be avoided at all costs, even if that cost is his own happiness. Aira challenges this, encouraging Hiiro to see himself as equal to the rest of Alkaloid, to do things for himself, to see himself as an important person just as Hiiro sees everyone else.

Rinne tries to force Hiiro awake, willing to make himself the villain if it means Hiiro will be free. It's alright if Hiiro hates him, it's alright if Hiiro never sees him again - if Hiiro can break his role, then Rinne has done his job. If Rinne can save all those other idols, it's alright if he's hated by the industry. He'll burn the thing he loves to the ground, he'll let go of all the things he cares about, he'll go back to the script written for him, as long as he's left a change for others. Rinne and Hiiro are very similar in this regard - they both think they're alone. They're self-sacrificing as hell, something that everyone in Alkakurei struggles with (even Kohaku, who is probably the least, is willing to do the "dirty work" in DF so the industry can be rid of the villains). Rinne didn't count on people caring about him, he didn't count on Niki wanting to follow him, he didn't count on Aira calling out to him in MDM.

And I think this is when things change for Rinne. He shuns the Ulambanna invite, but do you think he looks back and realizes that Switch was doing their best to support those with no safety net? Do you think Shu mentions their executions when trying to get Rinne off his back, and Rinne sees the Eccentrics in a whole new light? Do you think he sees Trickstar perform, and notices the joy on their faces after the hell they went through trying to make their dream come true?

I think he does, and he realizes that he isn't alone - he realizes that Hinata and Yuta just want to perform without the expectations of Setsubun hanging over them, and Nightclub allows that. He realizes that performing next to his brother, they're equals with different dreams, but similar goals. He realizes that Aira may be "naive", but isn't a passionate person with a good heart exactly what this industry needs?

Rinne doesn't stop trying to change the industry. He just goes about it in a different way - subtle spotlights instead of dramatic duels, bending the rules to fit rather than trying to disregard them, and most importantly, he does it knowing there are allies on his side who want to spark a change as much as he does, even if it doesn't seem like it at first.

Aira inspires so much change in both Amagis, and despite seeing himself as the weak link, he may just be the most important character in the !! Main Story.

Do you ever think about the parallels between Rinne and Aira

Not only they have a shared interest in protecting Hiiro and ensuring his well-being/growth as a person, (and it's extra interesting given how Aira sort of dislikes Rinne for how he dealt with Hiiro in general—by leaving him alone at their hometown and disowning him in the summer of the MDM—, so even though they have the same interests and goals regarding Hiiro, they aren't exactly friends nor like each other — though this is mostly from Aira's part, because Rinne does like Aira and even acknowledges him as someone important to Hiiro that he must keep in his life), but Aira kinda is what Rinne used to be, before his dreams of becoming an idol we're crushed by the new rules of ES.

!! Main Story, Episode 171, "Revolution"

I've seen many people talk about how Rinne and Aira would get along because they're both idol otakus, but I believe that's a common misunderstanding of Rinne's character, because Rinne isn't an idol otaku (at least not anymore). He doesn't like the current idol system and the way Ensemble Square is running the industry. That's why he tried to change it by force in the !! Main Story by acting out. This is different from Aira, who loves the idols born from this system, and is a participant in the ES system that is going to hurt the industry in the long run (because ES is mass producing idols like a factory, stripping them from their own individuality and what makes idols especially in the first place — which is why Aira likes idols to begin with! Because they're different from ordinary people!)

!! Main Story, episode 220, "Despair"

Aira is aware that the idol industry isn't perfect, in episode 171 he even acknowledges that the mass production of idols similar to items of consumption made in a factory is wrong and it strips idols from their beauty and value, but he doesn't have the insight and first hand experience with heartbreak as Rinne had, so he doesn't have the motivation to protest or change the way ES is running the industry. They both love idols and dreamed of becoming one, but Rinne isn't an idol otaku, because he can't be a fan of idols mass produced by the current system.

What Rinne does instead, is support underground idols that would otherwise be trampled or forced to disappear by ES because they don't fit their sets of standards (and because ES has monopoly in the idol industry, they can easily do this without much repercussions or public outcry) and gives them his protection. This is explained throughout the course of the story of Night Club.

Nigh Club, Epilogue 2

Aira tries to impersonate an ideal idol persona, as the ones he watched when he was younger. He wants to embody a model idol and inspire others as idols inspired him in the past. Rinne used to be similar, but ES arbitrarily destroyed his solo career making him lose that dream, and that's why he embodies the wild and rebellious persona he portrays on stage, which is a complete opposite to how a traditional idol should act (and this is a constant point of conflict between him and other idols, such as Himeru; Himeru tends to scold Rinne for being so wild and doing whatever he wants because it goes against what is expected of an idol, but in Night Club he comes to understand that this is Rinne's soft way to protest against ES, despite having lost to them in the first part of the !! Main Story).

(Sometimes, I wonder if Rinne is happy being the wild and playful self he is with Crazy:B, or if he would prefer to be on stage as an ideal idol like he used to do years ago....)

However, despite their differences and the dislike/intimidation Aira might feel towards Rinne, he admits he understands his feelings and where he comes from, and that he can't help but to relate to him due to the fact that they both love idols. Aira scolds Rinne in episode 220 "Despair" to make him stop his pity party, but later in episode 224 "Flutter" he comforts and encourages him instead—telling him that he should not give up being an idol, because he recognizes that Rinne loves idols as much as he does, and that he still has a reason to live because he has fans of himself and of Crazy:B waiting for him among the crowd, meaning that he is still loved and accepted by someone, despite all the wreckage he had caused.

(And if I'm allowed to get personal for a moment, I just need to make emphasis in how important Aira is to the development of the Amagi brothers in the last arc of the !! main story, and this scene is a perfect example of that. Aira is the one who encourages Rinne to join the others on stage and sing, and after that it is Hiiro that pushes Rinne to give that step which finally leads them to perform on stage together 🥹)

So as we can see, Rinne and Aira have a lot of similarities, but they act in completely different ways due to their circumstances. They have similar backgrounds as idol lovers but they have different views and feelings about the industry and the profession, (however, they seem to share the same ideals as to what an idol should be, and love the same type of ideal idol inside their hearts). Adding to that their shared most beloved person, Hiiro, and how the two of them want what's best for him but they have a point of contention due to Rinne's bad actions in the !! Main Story, and their relationship becomes x10 more interesting, and I wish we talked about it more!

And we know Happyele hasn't forgotten about them, because Aira appeared in Rinne's recent relationship chart, just below Hiiro.

(also, a little unrelated, bu i think it's funny that despite having a heart to heart at the ending of the main story, their relationship is still "want to tease him" and "he's a little scary" ahdks Aira, who scolded Rinne in front of hundreds of people in the MDM, regressed to feeling intimidated and troubled by him. A couple of friends commented that it was probably because Aira had a burst of courage in the MDM because of the severity of the situation, so he had the determination to call out Rinne, a senior that he particularly feels intimidated by, publicly without second thought. It is canon that after the fact, Aira admitted that looking back on the MDM he felt embarrassed for doing such a bold thing. Idk, it's just something i find very interesting and fun about their dynamic www)

So this leads me to believe that they haven't forgotten about the history these two had in the main story, and all I can do is just wait for them to expand on their relationship and dynamic more eventually in some future event.
