I was looking up fashion references so I could get more practice drawing my @vendetta-if MC Katerina Smirnova aka Kitty, and was surprised I found a doll that looks almost exactly like the Face claim I use for Kitty, Haya Maraachli.

Apparently, the doll is from a Nu. Face doll line from Intgerity Toys, and other than the beauty marks and tattoos, it looks strikingly similar to Katerina.

I recalled how Rin has two younger siblings and considering I have Kitty in a poly relationship with him and Ash. I am struck with the mental image of Katerina officially meeting the rest of her in-laws, and the twins are just openly staring at her. At first she thinks they're surprised because she's so tall, after all she's 6ft. / 182.88 cms without heels. That's taller than the US average for most women, and she does literally stand out in Japan. While her statuesque build probably is surprising, but no, the twins are more shocked that their older brother is engaged to a life-sized version of one of Noriko's dolls. Hell, they'd probably even show the doll to everyone! Maybe even tease Rin about letting him borrow the doll when he has to be away from Kitty for work.

sano ‘mikey’ manjiro

ꪆৎ i think mikey would be somewhat upfront with you about his crush. of course, he wouldn’t outright confess until he knew you shared the same sentiment. however, he’d make it fairly obvious that he thought highly of you and how he loves spending time with you over anyone else.

ꪆৎ he’d definitely ‘kidnap’ you from classes, begging you to leave because it’s an “emergency”, but really he just wanted to spend time with you. you’d scold him after, reminding him about the importance of school, but he’d just stand there with a love struck smile on his face. it didn’t matter wether you were lecturing him or ignoring him, being in your presence was enough to bring him happiness.

ꪆৎ his crush is blankly obvious to all of toman and probably other gangs in the near vicinity. no one dared to talk to you in a negative way, a bonus of having mike’s affections. and suddenly, if anyone was mean to you, it didn’t happen anymore… sometimes you wondered why but mikey would shush you immediately. “maybe they just realised that bringing down such an amazing person was a reflection of themselves, y/n-chan!”

ꪆৎ would love it when you accompany him on foodie ‘dates’, rides on his motorbike and even accompanying him to toman’s meetings. it genuinely shocked everyone when mikey would interrupt himself to stick his tongue out at you just to make you giggle. truly toman’s royalty!

ꪆৎ also would most likely pitch up at your house at random points of the day. even as ‘friends’, he’d want to nap together and just hang out alone where he wouldn’t have to maintain his reputation as the ‘invincible mikey’. with you, he could just be manjiro.

ꪆৎ in terms of confession, i think mikey would let it slip out when he’s most vulnerable. either when he’s super sleepy or just generally having a rough time. small whispers of how much he appreciates you and likes you would fall from his lips. once he realised what he had done, it was most likely too late to take it back. he just hoped you shared the same feelings.

ryuguji ‘draken’ ken

ꪆৎ unlike his best friend and captain, draken would keep his feelings to himself and it probably would stay that way for a while. it’s not because he doesn’t wanna be with you, in fact, it’s the opposite! he’d most likely think that a relationship with him would come hand in hand with people jeopardising your safety. so more likely than most, he’d stick to being your friend (a very close friend) until he knew you’d be safe.

ꪆৎ probably would trail behind you whilst you’d go shopping, a unreadable expression on his face but instead, his mind was overwhelmed by the thought of you! how adorable you looked as you pointed out cute things, making a mental note of items to buy you for your birthday.

ꪆৎ definitely would be the first one at your door if you came down with any sickness. even if it was a common cold! he’d remind you that sickness could get worse if left untreated and you should ‘stop denying him and just accept his help.’

ꪆৎ he’s immensely protective over you, even if he doesn’t necessarily need to be. other toman members would try and remind draken that he doesn’t need to be worried over your safety, after all the whole of toman would take care of you!

ꪆৎ i also feel like draken would be the type to pick you up and drop you off before and after school. even if the walk was 10 minutes and under, he’d remind you it could be dangerous alone! it’s purely just an excuse to spend more time with you even if he does act like it’s a chore.

ꪆৎ would probably confess to you if there’s imminent danger towards you or it would slip out without him realising. he’d definitely have to take a couple moments to compose himself if it was the latter, a furious blush erupting over his cheeks causing you to giggle.

hanagaki takemichi

ꪆৎ he’s so so shy around you! however, no matter how much he makes a fool of himself in front of you, he just can’t stay away. it’s like he’s in a constant state of fluster whenever he’s in your presence.

ꪆৎ definitely walks you to and from school, holding your hand if you initiate it first. he would probably also try carry your school books for you, even if you remind him that your arms work just fine. he just wants to help you in anyway he can!

ꪆৎ would also 100% feel awful when he sees the sad expression on your face whenever he turns up with new bruises and cuts covering his face. his heart would break when you graze your fingers over the wounds, asking a meek “do they hurt, michi-kun?”

ꪆৎ also the type to try show off to you whenever he can but fail miserably. although, if he sees that amazing smile, the humiliation he feels is always worth it! even if he ends up hurting himself, he won’t mind if you make sure he’s okay after. maybe a hug wouldn’t hurt also…

ꪆৎ speaking of hugs, he’d probably malfunction the first time that your arms wrap around him. even if you were doing it out of worry for his wellbeing, he cherishes the moment for the rest of his life.

ꪆৎ he doesn’t confess… it’s actually you who tells him how you feel. it’s a heartfelt conversation you two share after you see the boy beaten to a bloody pulp so that his friends would be alright. his loyalty and tenacity being one of the few reasons why you adore him so much!

baji keisuke

ꪆৎ honestly, he’s the definition of whipped. even chifuyu is surprised when he sees how baji acts in your presence. it’s so impossibly clear how much baji likes you to anyone else in the room, except you!

ꪆৎ he’d probably start fancying you if you helped with his studies and actually persevered with him despite how difficult he tried to make it. initially, he’d deny your help, grumpily saying he can handle it and to leave him alone. however, when you sit across from him and start reading through your notes and helping him correct his wrong answers, he’s floored. any other person would’ve left after his shitty response but you stayed.

ꪆৎ would act like your best friend but to anyone else, they view you as baji’s partner (albeit unofficially). is fiercely protective over you and if anyone makes you upset (even a little bit) are met with baji’s anger and very soon after, his fists. of course, you lecture him for jumping into action without consulting you but the fact he cares so much makes your heart beat impossibly faster.

ꪆৎ would definitely invite you over to his house to hang out, just so he could have some time alone with you. even if it’s just you reading and him silently laying beside you, it’s almost heaven to baji. if it was heaven, you’d be spilling your undying love for him but he thinks he wouldn’t be so lucky.

ꪆৎ would also end up sometimes bringing you to toman meetings if he absolutely has no other choice. but you’d stick by his side the whole time and if he’s not available for some reason, chifuyu is there to stand in!

ꪆৎ much like takemichi, you’d have to confess to baji first or you’d be playing cat and mouse with him for the rest of eternity. even his mum knows how he feels but he’ll deny every accusation. however, she’s just happy her hot headed son has someone he cares about and she’s so happy it’s you!

matsuno chifuyu

ꪆৎ chifuyu is definitely the type to crush on his best friend! someone he shares such a deep bond with and trusts on an immensely deep level. i doubt he’d fancy someone he knows on a surface level, he doesn’t know them well enough. however, he knows you inside and out, it never feels awkward around you (despite the constant blush on his cheeks that he hides everytime).

ꪆৎ he’s definitely protective over you, along side baji who will take care of you if chifuyu isn’t around. if he sees anyone hassling you, he’s the first to jump in and defend your honour!

ꪆৎ he always invites you round to his house just to see you cuddle peke j. furthermore, he’ll take you to the zoo, aquariums or just pet shops to hang out since you both share the same sentiment towards animals. it’s one of the reasons he’s fallen so hard for you.

ꪆৎ his mum adores your ‘friendship’ with her son, she’s never seen him so happy (in a romantic way!). she will buy food specially for you to share and even sometimes drop devious hints in your ears about her sons feelings; you don’t take it seriously at first.

ꪆৎ he probably doesn’t initiate physical contact with you too much, it makes his brain overload. but, the option is there… he will without a doubt wrap you in a bear hug; savouring the feeling for as long as possible.

ꪆৎ chifuyu is definitely the type to try reenact scenes from his favourite mangas then make a complete fool of himself. however, he doesn’t know that you appreciate him trying nonetheless, no matter how silly he looks doing so.

ꪆৎ following his shoujo manga’s ideology, he’d confess in a subtle but heartfelt way. i think either using peke j as a messenger, a small note tucked into his little collar. or he’d tell you up front and be as sincere with his words as his silly brain would allow.

hanemiya kazutora

ꪆৎ it’s likely that no one knows that kazutora has a crush on anyone, most of all you. i think he wouldn’t interact with you that much in public, instead opting to spend time with you in private when he could truly be himself.

ꪆৎ the amount of times kazutora has to cover his raging blush on his cheeks each time you hang out is insane! he never knew that compliments he hears on the daily about his appearance could make his heart beat so fast, until they came out of your mouth.

ꪆৎ he definitely visits you if you have a job, sneaking in and surprising you with a huge smile on his face! he’s also the type to stay until your shift ends and make sure you get home safely, wether you ride on his motorcycle or not.

ꪆৎ he may also sometimes slip you unexpected gifts, only small ones though that have sentimental value. maybe it’s cinema tickets from the time you dragged him out after his release from juvie.

ꪆৎ he doesn’t want you involved with any gang activity so it’s quite unlikely that you find out he’s still involved with that stuff. however, he would tell you flat out if you heard any rumours about him and would reassure you that he’d keep you seperate.

ꪆৎ it’s unlikely he’d confess, liking things how they are, no matter how much he wishes your relationship could progress. either he’s worried you’d see him as a monster, due to things he did in the past and in the present or he just wouldn’t know how to say it so it’s better left unsaid anyways. it would have to be you to lay your feelings out for him to see and decide what to do next.

mitsuya takashi

ꪆৎ i think mitsuya would be one of the most upfront about his feelings on this list without saying it directly. toman can clearly see the sentiment he shares for you, even girls in his class and sewing club know that he’s essentially spoken for!

ꪆৎ he loves inviting you along to his days out with his sisters. not only because he loves spending time with you but also because the two girls adore you as much as he does! one of his favourite photographs is the four of you on one of your days out, a scarf he made wrapped around your neck.

ꪆৎ speaking of clothes he’s made; mitsuya definitely surprises you with new pieces every so often. even if you’d try refuse, telling him he should try sell them as they’re just that good, he’d remind you that he’d much rather see them on you and wants no payment in return (no matter how much you insist).

ꪆৎ gentleman mitsuya always gives you a ride no matter where you need to go! even if you mention in passing that you’re going shopping in the coming days, he will insist that he’s your ride! after all, he can’t stand by whilst you lug heavy bags home.

ꪆৎ once mitsuya is certain about your feelings reflecting his, he’d be direct with his words. “i have feelings for you, y/n-chan.” a simple statement that gets the biggest weight off his chest. he can only hope you accept his confession…

inui seishu

ꪆৎ you’re most likely a childhood friend to seishu, i find it unlikely he’d fancy a classmate or a passing stranger. perhaps, a childhood friends sibling? that way, he’s able to determine wether you actually like him for who he is.

ꪆৎ alongside kokonoi, he trusts you immensely. i highly doubt he’s able to form romantic feelings for anyone without the formation of trust. you’re his confident and he’s yours, and it has always been that way. at this point, seishu is unable to see himself confiding with anyone else the way he does with you.

ꪆৎ when he first started gaining feelings for you, i think he probably would give you the cold shoulder, not understanding how he feels. but, he’ll make things right with you once his minds less foggy!

ꪆৎ if you don’t exactly share the same interests, such as how he’s very interested in motorbikes and mechanics, he will try very hard to get into your hobbies so you can spend more time together. however, it means an immense amount to him that you’ll sit there and let him ramble about his favourite bike that shinichiro worked on, even if it was so long ago.

ꪆৎ he would probably confess when everything has settled down in his life. that includes his involvement with gang activity. he would hate to put someone so close to his heart in jeopardy. however, if you can’t wait, you could always confess yourself…

kokonoi hajime

ꪆৎ it would take him a long, long time to actually acknowledge his feelings for you. he would probably feel like moving on was a betrayal to akane but there came a point where he couldn’t ignore those feelings anymore.

ꪆৎ he would treat you amazingly, even if he’s battling with the thoughts inside his head about you and akane. he’d offer you money if you needed it (you will most likely hand it straight back), buy you gifts and happen to forget the receipt…

ꪆৎ even after several talks that you like spending time with him because of who he is and not what he can do for you, kokonoi still finds it hard to accept. he probably will see some resemblance to akane in that sense and would probably think she’d want him to be with someone like you.

ꪆৎ one of his favourite things about you is that even if he isn’t in a sociable mood, you will still sit with him and enjoy his company. not to mention he’s floored by how amazing you look everytime he sees you!

ꪆৎ he also loves going on day trips with you and seishu, finding every different place the three of you visit special.

ꪆৎ his confession would be sincere and precise. he would lay his feelings out and would promise to treat you amazingly and of course, take care of you in anyway you’d need.

I'm curious, as someone who loves to bake, which of the ROs would be utter sweet tooths, or would any be the kind who don't really like sweets but are more than happy to indulge if it makes the MC happy? Also kind of curious about uncle Luka and grandpa too lol. Feel free to ignore though if this was answered before!

Ooh, cute! 😊The absolute sweet tooth among the RO is undoubtedly Rin, and they'd love to bake with MC and exchange recipes 🥺💖 And then I'd say Skylar. Ash doesn't really have any strong preference, and Santana kinda prefer savoury food, but they certainly would also certainly be more than happy to some freshly baked goods (especially if MC made it).

Gramps don't really have any definite preference; he'd enjoy any good food (and food made by his wife and in this case, grandchild 😁 Luka can't cook to save his life and he didn't have the chance to try out Viktor's cooking 😭). Grandma prefers savoury food, but there's no way in hell she would be able to say no to MC. Probably would have loved to learn baking so she could spend time with MC 🥺

Luka enjoys more savoury food, but he wouldn't say no to MC's baked goods. Jackal actually enjoys sweet food, but not to the point where he can be called a sweet tooth like Rin 😆 Takashi is also a sweet tooth (and would often sneak and buy sweet treats for Rin and the twins). Azami is not a sweet tooth, but she wouldn't decline if MC offers them some baked goods because she doesn't want to be rude.

Viktor was also quite a sweet tooth. Those cookies that he baked every Christmas? Yeah, those were not only for MC and the guests 😂 Cara prefers savoury food, but was interested in trying to learn baking from Viktor at that time so she could try baking some sweets for Ash at home. Yvette is a sweet tooth but can't bake something to save herself.

Driving habits

Synopsis: How the Tokyo revengers boys would act when they drive you somewhere on their bike.

Featuring: Manjiro Sano, Ryuguji Ken, Mitsuya Takashi, Baji Keisuke, Hanma Shuji, Matsuno Chifuyu

Manjiro Sano:

Sorry to all the Mikey simps, but he wouldn't give a fuck if you wore a helmet or not. At least most of the time. He is hust really confident in his driving skills...

He'd also just drive like a menace... literally speeding and not caring about stop signs or red lights...

Ryuguji Ken

Draken would definitely make sure you wear that helmet before even getting on the bike. He trusts in his driving skills, but he doesn't trust anyone else's...

He also makes sure to check if you feel uncomfortable with a certain speed level. He'd drive much safer with you behind him.

Mitsuya Takashi

Mitsuya does, pretty much like Draken, make sure that you wear the helmet correctly. He'd prefer to even put it on you himself, just to check that it is on correctly.

However, he doesn't particularly slow down his usual speed... Mostly because he drives pretty safely anyways. He does speed a little tho, but if he ever notices you getting uncomfortable, he'd slow down immediately...

Baji Keisuke

I feel like he would buy you a helmet for your birthday or something. He'd not slow down though, it's a ride or die thing with Baji. He would also teach you how to drive, but he'd loose his patience pretty quickly.

Baji gives the idgaf vibe. To elaborate, he'd call and spam you at 3 am on a Wednesday just to pick you up and drive around the city.

Hanma Shuji

Another one of the idgaf gang... If he's really into it, he'd probably not even notice if you fell off. Wouldn't slow down for anyone or anything. He just goes full speed all the time.

Just driving around at night is also a Hanma thing I suppose. He just loves driving. If you had to go anywhere and asked someone other than him, he'd literally throw a tantrum.

Matsuno Chifuyu

Best boy. Literally. He would buy you a helmet before he would even think of driving with you. Then he'd ease you into it and go slower the first times you'd drive with him, but after a while he starts speeding up.

Only to a point you're comfortable with though. He'd put your safety over his own at that point.

I'm not sure if they ever gave an official explanation as to why Shadow joined GUN, but I've seen plenty of people say that it's strange he joined the organization that basically ruined his life, and yeah it is weird.

I have come up with a headcanon that explains it though. He joined them to make sure they never do something like they did on the ARK ever again. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer as they say. Not to mention the whole reason that all happened was because GUN wanted him as a weapon. I think he'd be concerned that they might go after his new friends if he doesn't give them the impression that he's under their command.

So he joined, hoping to gain their trust and keep an eye on their activities. Rouge is also in on it, and definitely has hacked into their database to view top secret documents. If they ever find out that GUN is planning another senseless massacre, then Team Dark plans to sabotage it from the inside out.

Not a ShadAmy headcanon specifically, but you could imagine that Shadow would be reluctant to share this information out of fear of being jeopardized. Perhaps it could be used for drama. Have fun writers~!

It doesn’t just make sense objectively, it matches Shadow’s experiences perfectly. I often say Shadow would cling to Amy because he knows how easy it is to lose someone, but I love the idea of him taking it in a darker direction, too, picking up on the possibility of another tragedy happening and preemptively taking steps to stop it. I think people see Shadow as rash because he’s so extreme in his actions, but that is careful for him. Those aren’t mutually exclusive:

Another thing I like is that it gives Shadow agency. Based on Commander Tower’s behavior at the end of ShTH and his actions in Shadow: Dark Beginnings, Sega seems to want us to believe the Commander is a nice guy who’s good buddies with Shadow:

“Shadow, do you read me? First, I...I want to...apologize, for the other day...actually, I just became a grandfather last week, and I was thinking of maybe having you over.”

Commander Tower, probably: “Sowwy I twied to shoot you, uwu. It’ll never happen again! 🥺”

And, uh...I don’t buy that, frankly...but it doesn’t seem to me that G.U.N.’s keeping him under their thumb, either. As interesting as that concept would have been, I don’t think it’s what Sega’s going for. It lines up better with canon if Shadow’s choosing to stick around for his own ulterior motives. I think having him actively decide to keep G.U.N. close for that reason strengthens his character.

Your headcanon is even stronger now in the wake of Takashi Iizuka’s pre-Shadow Generations interview (which happened after this ask was sent, btw), specifically the question at 3:20:

This all but confirms that working with them is a choice for Shadow.

It also perfectly demonstrates something that really irks me about Sega: their lack of communication about basic aspects of the characters’ lives. Most fans speculated for what, almost two decades, about whether a main character is employed or not, and Sega just drops it in a random interview? Not even in a game? It’s such basic information, yet they didn’t tell us for 19 years. And gee, why would we get that impression?

he’s considered buying and wearing your school uniform. he just wants to walk with you to and out of school for some reason. he’s even thought of just enrolling so that he can experience being told off by you. no one knows you guys are dating, if people did they may very well just explode with the simple piece of information.

he messages you telling you to go to the back gate which you occasionally promptly ignore.

chifuyu would also offer to bring you to school on his motorcycle— “first of all, no, it’s a bad image, second of all, you’re underage, third of all—,” “alright alright, let’s walk instead? or is that too much aswell?” “too much” “okay, just walk three steps ahead of me then?” “i’ll get a restraining order.”

he’s not that clingy with you he just thinks your answers and reactions to him + pda is funny. he takes silent pride in the fact that you’re his gf even though he can’t talk about it so he tends to spill when he’s with takemitchy.

if the coast is really clear he’ll definitely take that chance to do whatever he wants with you.

mitsuya is the most respectful when it comes to your position. he’d be fine with 0 interaction with you if that’s what you wish for. it goes to the point you’re the one craving for the attention sometimes but he’d notice those moments.

he’s smooth with it tho especially cause he has reasons to talk with you which people won’t question. “hey yn, i wanted to get permission for the stitching club to——,” there has been news spreading that mitsuya takashi has been making too many visits to the student council room but yknow, maybe mitsuya is just damn passionate about the club.

mitsuya is so persistent with your appearance, he’d adjust your clothes so that you’ll look neat and sometimes while you’re handling work he styles your hair. he’d even help you with your workload.

Day 6 - Fantasy AU

Fandom: Ouran Highschool Host Club

Character(s): Mori (Takashi Morinozuka)

Note(s): Was struggling with how to write this one for a while but then an idea came to me at like 2am (funny how that happens)

Once again, some traveling stranger came into the nearby village claiming to sell love potions. And once again, Mori is keeping an eye and ear out to make sure none of them end up in the proximity of those he cares about.

He knows how popular his friends are. Prince Tamaki, Advisor Kyoya, the court jester twins. He knows they're all sought after, and he knows what extents some people will go in hopes of being the object of their affection. It's tiring and Mori just needs a break.

And so, he decides he's had enough of chasing around and listening for news of who has the potions when he decides to go to the source instead. He knows that he probably shouldn't go alone, but he does anyway. He knows he's strong. He's confident in his abilities. But he also knows to stay vigilant and be cautious too.

Mori hears of where the stranger's little setup is at. He follows the trail, and he watches as another girl buys some type of potion. It's not the stereotypical overly pink and bubbly love potion that he recognizes, but he still has a feeling it could lead to trouble.

You're just finishing another sale of one of your "potions", when the strong and silent knight walks over. You vaguely recognize him as a bodyguard to the prince that would walk alongside whenever the prince came into the village. Seeing him here is a bit of a surprise, but you keep a smile on your face.

"Hello, sir! Can I help you with something?" You ask, being polite and friendly. Mori stays silent as he observes you, looking for any hidden aggression or making sure he's not about to be tricked.

"The love potions. They've been making a mess." He's blunt as he tells you this and it does surprise you a bit to hear it. But then you give a sigh and a sheepish smile at his words.

"Let me guess, some poor girl thought she could win the heart of one of the prince's court and tried to slip a potion in a drink?" You say and the nod Mori gives makes you shake your head. "I keep telling these people that they don't work like that." You sigh and massage your temple as you bring out one of the "love potions" in question for Mori to view.

It's the same shade that the girl from earlier had gotten. A reddish-orange coloration that's light and doesn't seem as airy as many potions he's seen before.

"How's it work?" He asks and you give him a small smile as you motion for him to take the potion. He doesn't. He just stares as if this is some kind of trick and you sigh.

"It doesn't make someone in love. Hell, it doesn't even do the deep infatuation for an hour then wears off," you explain as you open the potion and waft it a bit to smell. Mori steps a bit closer, seeming more at ease that you were the first to smell the potion as he gets close to do the same.

It's an earthy smell with hints of citrus. Definitely not the overtly sweet smell that love potions give off. Just smelling it makes Mori feel... lighter? Like he's carrying less weight.

"It's got no magic enchantments at all. Just a bunch of herbs to boost the chemicals in your brain - ah, science stuff," you explain and give him a small smile. While science exists, people still rely on magic and enchantments. So to know you brew these "potions" with science instead causes some curiosity in Mori.

"So what's it do?" He asks, once again speaking in short sentences, but his tone is softer as he looks at you and you give a small smile.

"Makes you feel happier, lighter. Kind of as if you are in love, but not quite. I mean, it's mostly used to improve your mood. I like to give small doses of it to those that are sick or feel down about themselves," you tell him and sigh. "I should've known people would spread rumors and that it'd cause trouble."

"It's fine. Thank you for explaining," Mori tells you, placing a hand on your shoulder kindly as you stopper the "potion" again.

"Of course. You can take this one if you'd like. On the house for causing a fuss." Mori gives a nod and smiles as he takes the small bottle. He pulls his hand away from you and hesitates as he feels a bit of reluctancy to do so.

You give him a smile and wave and he does the same, his smile not as bright or easily seen as yours, but it is still there. Mori begins his walk back to the castle, his mind racing as he feels the small weight of the vial in his bag and the weight on his heart.

While you told him that it's not a love potion, he might need to stop by more often just in case. He just hopes you decide to stay in town for a bit longer.

Real 10 Dance Roundtable event report

For the past several years, each time a volume of 10 Dance has been released in Japan (and sometimes in between), there have been events held under the name "Real 10 Dance", which typically feature performances primarily of men dancing together. Volume 6's edition in 2021 was exclusively online, while 2022 brought the return of the live version of the event (though it also was streamed online a couple of months later). When this year's event was announced for February 5th, 2023 in conjunction with Volume 7's release a couple of weeks earlier, it was billed as more of a roundtable discussion rather than centering around dancing, with the biggest reveal being that Inouesatoh herself would be there to discuss the series and answer questions. This seemed like an extremely rare opportunity to get inside information about the series, so I decided to make a trip to Japan to see it. Click below to read my report on the event! (Note: definitely tread carefully if you're not caught up on all of volume 7, as there are big spoilers in here, as well as talk about what is planned for the near future!)

The event was divided into two separate two-hour sessions, which each featured entirely different content (save for the opening and closing numbers, which were the same for each). Only certain segments allowed for picture taking, so the images shared here will be limited (as should probably be expected, none were allowed during Inouesatoh's segments, though she was wearing a face mask and sunglasses, so it was difficult to see exactly what she looked like anyway. At first I thought the sunglasses were for anonymity, but after the event she made some tweets about health issues she has such fibromyalgia and light sensitivity). The dancers featured in both sessions were ones who have participated in previous Real 10 Dance events, and included the three series consultants Ai Shimoda, Kouichi Nishio, and Yukiko Kamiwaki, plus Jun Motoike, Takashi Takagi, Choma Sekine, Kiyomi Takashima, Miri Murano, and Yuuya Miyakawa.

Upon entry, audience members were given a program and a postcard featuring the image of the Shinyas from Volume 7's special edition booklet cover.

The hall was set up with things like advertisements for the series, reproductions of pages (which included scenes requested by attendees during the ticket buying process), and dance equipment and costumes to look at before the event started.

The volume 7 booklet included the image seen on the left here with correction notes for the coloring of the cover image, but I was amused by the right image which includes anatomy notes such as how a dancer's butt differs from a normal man's.

I attended in a custom shirt I made with an iron-on transfer.

First up in the program was an opening number by the Latin specialists, dancing a cha-cha to Dirty Work by Austin Mahone. They started out in male-female pairs, then broke apart so the men could have their chance to dance together and thrill the largely fujoshi audience.

Motoike then hosted a segment where he provided a rundown of the different types of Standard and Latin dances. The other pros were lined up to be selected to demonstrate different ones, but the catch was that none of them knew what they were dancing until Motoike paired them up. The selections varied between opposite-sex and same-sex pairings, as well as different combinations of Standard and Latin pros being mixed together (sorry for the blurry picture, it was difficult to get good shots while they were moving, but here both the female duo and male duo include one Standard and one Latin pro).

Motoike also requested for some of the Latin pros to switch between cha-cha and rumba while dancing to the same music piece. Once the segment wrapped up, Takagi asked if Motoike was going to dance at all, and asked him to perform a solo waltz to cha-cha music.

There was a short audience participation segment to try out some aspects of ballroom dance movement. This included performing the rise and fall of a waltz to the count, and the basic steps of a cha-cha (done on a very small scale, as they had us doing them from the narrow rows where our seats were rather than the central floor).

Then came the main draw of the A session: the in-depth manga discussion! This segment featured Kodansha editor T-naka, Inoue's longtime friend and series collaborator simply known by the nickname of Teacher, and of course Inouesatoh herself. The segment was moderated by dance consultant for the series (and total fujoshi) Ai Shimoda. I will try my best to summarize the most interesting bits from this discussion, though it was definitely a lot to take in, and sometimes freely flowed between topics rather than being a strict singular answer to each question (also sorry if I misattribute who said which exact quotes, as sometimes different combinations of the guests spoke on the same subjects back and forth. Inouesatoh wrote in a tweet after the event that Teacher acted as her "Japanese translator", since she was typically able to voice her thoughts better than she could herself.)

Upon her introduction, we found out that Teacher has known Inouesatoh since they were both students in the same manga appreciation group. In the early part of the series, she sometimes helped with background art, though currently is mainly involved in helping with the story. During the talk segment, Inoue credited her with helping to achieve balance between the different story elements.

The birthdays listed in the calendar were thought up by Teacher. At first she thought about having the two Shinyas be Scorpios, but then didn't feel that fit well for Suzuki. But she did feel like Sagittarius fit well for him, and since the two signs are adjacent she instead made their birthdays one day apart but with those two different signs. T-naka was surprised to see their birthdays, as Suzuki's is the same as his and Sugiki's is on his anniversary. Shimoda joked that we were learning an awful lot of personal information about T-naka. 

Teacher also shared the back-and-forth exchange that occurred when Inouesatoh revealed a certain controversial plot point that she wanted to include:

Inouesatoh: So I'm thinking of having Suzuki and Norman have sex.

Teacher: What? Really?

Inoue: Really.

Teacher: Really??

Inoue: Really.

(I've personally wondered if she's had it planned for a long time, but from this exchange, even if she may have personally known it was coming, those closest to her were not aware of it until Norman returned to the story.)

It was mentioned in the chapter notes that the sex scene was originally a bit longer, and during this talk it was revealed that T-naka was the one who requested for it to be cut down. He was thinking that the fans might have a hard time dealing with it (citing he was thinking of the poor "maidens' hearts"), and someone (either Shimoda or Teacher?) chimed in and agreed that it was difficult to accept seeing a sex scene between these two when the main couple hasn't even had sex yet (umm, yeah, it definitely was! Thank you T-naka for saving us from enduring a longer scene lol).

There was an interesting discussion about how when the series began, the Shinyas were intended to be a switch couple. Though this plan had been approved, apparently she later got feedback that BL fans do not really like for couples to switch, so being in a BL magazine she felt like she should change her plans. (I personally love to see switching, and maybe that's why I got hooked on the series so early since I probably sensed that intention!). She did not specify if moving out of a BL magazine meant she went back to her original plan, or if she decided to stick with whatever choice she made for who should be top and bottom, but it feels like the switching element was talked about more in the past tense, so maybe she's not doing it anymore. There was some related talk about Suzuki's development, and how he especially was created as a character who could take either role; in fact, the line he said to Saichi in chapter 38 when he was talking about how he could've gone along with what Sugiki wanted did carry the implication that he would've even bottomed for him if he had thought their relationship would succeed.

Near the end of the talk, T-naka was going over some details about the volume covers, such as how each features one of the ten different ballroom dances, and how the step patterns on the cover flaps are real ones you can try out yourself. Shimoda took this opportunity to ask something I've wondered: since there are ten different dances to go through, does that mean the series is planned to end at ten volumes? T-naka said this was not necessarily the case, and the exact number of total volumes is not yet decided.

The talk segment finished with the chance for audience members to give their thoughts and ask questions. One was concerned that with the series moving online to Yanmaga if there will be restrictions as far as romantic and sexual content goes. T-naka assured that because it's a website rather than an app that there aren't limits on erotic content. Another commented on how much he loves the costumes in the series, especially the sexy ones Suzuki and Aki have been wearing lately, and that he hopes to see more designs in the future. This led to some talk about costumes, including one of the standard men commenting that it's no longer strictly required for them to wear only the black tux and tails combo, and that he's even competed in suits or pure white tuxes. One audience member wondered about Sugiki and Max, and with the two seeming to become close would they end up having sex like Suzuki and Norman. Inouesatoh clearly and immediately said no to this possibility (to the relief of everyone lol). One woman started off with a shaky voice and saying how nervous she was, nearly on the verge of tears as she spoke, which caused Inoue to get up from the table and walk over to stand in front of the section she was sitting in (I'm sure she meant to be a comfort, but also having her come closer seems even more intimidating!). She said that she doesn't care if they're a switch couple or whatever, just please let the Shinyas get together. Then Inoue joked a little dialogue of, "Hey Sugiki," "Hey Suzuki," "Let's do it," and the audience clapped and cheered (We will approve of literally any justification after this many years lol).

This was followed by a short performance segment, with Takagi and Sekine doing a rumba to Half of Me by Ken Hirai, and Motoike and Nishio performing various standard styles to selections from La La Land (these performances were revivals of ones done at previous years' events, though the only one I had seen before was the rumba that was part of 2021's remote version).

There was a short outro for the dancers to the song It's Always a Good Time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen. The session ended with the dancers taking pose requests from the audience. I didn't get the best or clearest shots, but if you check the hashtag #リアル10DANCE座談会 on Twitter, you can find a lot of other attendees' pictures.

Heading out of the venue between sessions, I saw that Inouesatoh and Teacher were standing by with fans lining up to talk to them. I knew that the next session was scheduled to start with a chance to chat with them, and feeling like if I didn't get a bit of food I might pass out (I had been extra nervous in the morning, so it was difficult to eat much of anything), I decided to wait until the B session (honestly also didn't feel mentally prepared yet seeing them standing right there!). I headed to a convenience store, scarfed down an onigiri, then spent a bit of time chatting with a couple of other fans I knew from Twitter.

At the start of session B, despite trying to ready myself before, I still hesitated a bit once they said that the guests would be standing by and available to talk briefly one-on-one with attendees. I wanted to go up and say something, but was also feeling extremely anxious at the idea of actually talking to her. But knowing what a rare opportunity this was, I convinced myself that I shouldn't let it slip by, so I joined others who were waiting to speak to her. As I waited in line, I was trying to rehearse what I would say in my head, but also was feeling more and more of a nervous wreck as I got closer to the front. I had also been near the end of the line and they were running low on time, so the allowed time went from about 20 seconds down to 10 seconds. In fact, they nearly cut the time off entirely when there were about two people left in front of me, but Inoue insisted that everyone who was waiting should get their chance to talk to her. So I finally got my turn, and Inoue and Teacher immediately commented on the T-shirt, with Inoue asking "aren't you cold?" (no, actually, I was sweating profusely from anxiety lol). I said I was fine, then froze a bit as I was thrown off from having to deviate from my planned spiel. I started mumbling quietly and she told me to come closer. I said I'd wanted to see this event so badly that I'd come all the way from America (she seemed amazed and touched my hand!), then blurted out something about how the Shinyas' relationship is complicated and heartbreaking but also so deep and I love it, and that I was rooting for their future happiness, then quickly scampered back to my seat.

Before the start of the B session's talk portion, when Inouesatoh was called to the stage, there was a slight delay as she was said to be sitting on one of the dancer's laps backstage. I wondered which one it was, suspecting it might be Takagi as I also would've chosen him. The mystery was answered a week later, when she tweeted a picture showing it was, indeed, Takagi! Though she insisted it wasn't on purpose; he patted his knee and her butt was just drawn to him, as anyone's would be! Once she emerged, she was joined by Teacher and the other two guests for this session: BL manga author Hatoko Machiya, and otaku researcher Taimatsu Yoshimoto. 

It has been previously noted that 10 Dance was a work that Inouesatoh had been planning for a very long time, with its first drafts being made even before she started publishing many of her other works (she made some tweets before about how things changed over time, such as how Sugiki was originally going to be a single dad, but then that idea was scrapped and instead used in Kozure Ookami). She kept publishing other short series while having 10 Dance on the backburner, waiting for her draft to be accepted, until finally after finishing Smoker she declared that if she couldn't do 10 Dance next, she was going to quit BL.

Yoshimoto said that he became a fan of Inouesatoh's work from reading Endorphin Machine, and he likes the realistic bodies and muscles that she draws. She made a comment about how BL magazines don't always allow that sort of style, wanting the characters to be thin and hairless and even nippleless sometimes. That sort of style looks strange to her, since she likes to draw bodies that look real. She talked a bit about the work she did in her twenties before becoming a manga author, some of which included designing monster costumes for TV shows (she added in a tweet afterward that she also did work for commercials and promotional videos, so it's possible that people have seen her work without knowing it). This gave her a great sense for how bodies move, and also allowed her to create very masculine and exaggerated designs. At another point she talked about growing up in the 1970s in some sort of shared housing unit where a lot of men lived, which meant that the manga options she had available to read were mostly shounen and porn (to me, her style makes a lot of sense with all of these facts combined together; she's definitely not emulating the flowery shoujo styles that a lot of BL authors grew up on!).

There was some talk between Machiya and Inouesatoh about drawing sex scenes. Inoue said that she likes drawing them, but also doesn't want to feel like it's only happening because it's expected. She doesn't feel it's right for a relationship to progress from one to two then straight to ten simply because publishing in a BL magazine carries the assumption that sex will happen quickly. She went on to note that readers who don't like sex scenes may want to stop reading 10 Dance soon. Shimoda eagerly asked if this means this is something we can expect to see in volume 8, and Inoue said yes!

There was then a 10 Dance trivia game. It was run through a site called ahaslides, and included multiple choice options that participants used their phones to select. There were ten questions total, most worth one point, with the first being a practice question worth zero, and the last two questions worth two points each (possible maximum score of 11). One question was the one that had been mentioned on Twitter beforehand of what is the name of Teacher's cat. Some of the questions had the pros perform specific dance moves, and then the questions were to identify which dance was a cha-cha, and which move was an oversway. There were also manga detail specific questions, like in the volume 7 cover flap comic, what incorrect thing did Suzuki write down when Fusako asked him to write a word. Another was what was the name of Suzuki's friend who got obliterated by Sugiki's eye beams in vol 4's cover flap comic. There was another about the number of kisses that have happened in the series so far, and specified that it meant scenes not panels, and also no fantasies or bonus chapters included.

After eight questions, I had four points total, but then there was some issue with the game and I had to sign back in. This meant that I didn't have an opportunity to answer the ninth question (which I knew and was worth two points), and did answer the tenth question that was also worth two, but apparently having to get back into the game meant my point total was reset, so in the end I only had two, but would've had eight if I'd had my previous four points and the two from the question I wasn't able to answer. The top person had ten points, and second place had nine, so eight would've tied me for third with a few other people. Which didn't get the top prize of an autograph from Inouesatoh, but would've gotten me one of the page reproductions that were displayed in the venue. Definitely disappointing that the game glitch prevented me from getting a prize, since I pride myself on being good at trivia lol.

Lastly was an Emperor's Hold audience participation segment. This time we were all invited to come down to the main floor so we could spread out, and were instructed on how to get into a regular ballroom hold, then make the alterations to turn it into Sugiki's signature hold.

Overall, I'm so glad I went to see this event! It felt overwhelming, but in a good way! It was amazing to hear the author and her team give insight into the series and its creation. One thing I've wondered about is why Inouesatoh stopped publishing in Reijin, and though that specific question was not asked, the answer seemed pretty clear as she talked about the different restrictions and expectations of being in a BL magazine that it just wasn't a good fit for her. She needed the freedom to tell the story she wanted to tell, rather than trying to adhere to certain formulas or standards. And even if I might find some of her ideas shocking (the Norman plot was one she also said probably wouldn't fly in a BL magazine), I am on board for whatever direction she plans to go from here (I mean, that hint about sex scenes coming soon is definitely encouraging! Hopefully it's actually between the Shinyas this time lmao). She tweeted after the event some comments about not wanting to be too heavy on explanations in her stories, so some of the information is more in the background and may require multiple readings to understand (I've definitely found that true with 10 Dance, there are so many background hints scattered around that I've only found when re-reading). I just came away from this event being even more in awe of the series than ever before, and hoping that Inouesatoh and everyone else involved in its creation felt that love and encouragement from the eager attendees. Even if I was a nervous wreck as the (as far as I could tell) sole non-Japanese fan there, I hope I did my job of representing for the overseas fans and letting her know that the admiration for her series spreads all across the globe!

...This already lengthy report isn't over yet! A bonus addition is that after the event I took the chance to go to Ginza and see some of the real life inspirations for locations used in the series!

I always headcanon-ed that Mikey enjoys fashion and looking good. At first Mikey would be annoyed and jealous by how many people come up to you and gush about your outfit or make-up(if you do it) or just your overall look every. single. time. You would find him complaining "Well I don't want people ruining our alone time. It's about you and I." Well that might be the case. He doesn't like others being too into you. But then you tell him "They are just strangers we met outside. We probably aren't ever going to see them again, so what's the harm in getting compliments?"

Well…you have a point. After that he tones it down little by little and starts to get smug saying how hot/cool their s/o is. Alsoooo I think he would start coming up to you for advice. “Okay, what’s wrong.” Folding his sleeves to hide the bloodied parts, knowing that he was going to throw this away if the blood doesn’t come off, Ran finds himself seated on the edge of your bed after shutting the door with his foot; you sit up to lean on your headboard and look at him in suspicion.

“Nothing, absolutely nothing is wrong other than you being nosey,” you refute, eyes narrowed as you grip on your device, your other hand already reaching out for a pillow to chuck at him.

Just from your actions, Ran doesn’t buy a single air of your bullshit. “Mhm, who’re you texting then?”

“No one!”

A pitch higher than normal as you sit straighter, Ran scrutinizes you, already formulating ways to pin you down and have another fight where he sneakily get your phone and run for his life into his room.

“Really?”

“Stop being so annoying!” You whine, already formulating ways to throw him out of your room as if you could do it if you try hard enough.

A slight curve of his lips was the only warning you got.

Rindou opens the bedroom door to a sight.

Ran is 21 years old having a “play fight” with his 15 year old sibling with no prior training like them and clearly doesn’t stand a chance.

“Rindou, come here! Y/n is keeping secrets from us now!” Ran screams. “I can’t believe this! What happened to no secrets between us forever! To be true to your siblings, to your dear family! Traitor!”

He watches it all play out, Ran screaming nonsense with a half-joking smile, being a dramatic bitch; and, of course, you biting on Ran’s hand while kicking away his face.

Rindou spies something fall off the bed as the two of you struggle, pushing away each other’s faces and pulling on the other’s hair. He heaves a deep breath, discreetly swiping it from the floor while the two of you are busy trying to pull each other’s nose out.

It was your phone.

Rindou sits by the door, making himself as comfortable as he can. A quick check showed that you still had a lot of battery left, which he’s going to use to scroll through different social media platforms because he’s bored and he left his phone in the kitchen with the bags of groceries. He hopes that there’s something interesting going on, maybe someone died.

He unlocks your phone easily, the password as basic as the first four numbers. (He still can’t believe his younger sibling is this stupid.) Then, he stops.

Rindou just stops moving, stops breathing, stops living in general.

Because right in front of his eyes was an open contact with a long conversation that you end up leaving on read (probably because of Ran’s untimely intervention). That wasn’t the important part. You texting someone wasn’t new. But, but the name, the contact name.

Mitsuya Takashi

Rindou knows one Mitsuya Takashi in this area and he doubts that there’s another one that has the same name and same face.

“Ew.” He scrunches his nose at the texts, immediately causing a pause to your and Ran’s actions.

A loud gasp from you, a kick to Ran’s face and you were pouncing at him. Not noticing, Rindou went rolling across the room with you, away from the door and away from the dropped phone as you held onto him, wrapping your arms around his torso.

“Get off of me! GET OFF OF ME!!”

Rindou tries pushing you off but you only hold onto him tightly, burying your face on the crook of his neck—not even noticing that your gadget wasn’t with him anymore. He starts hitting your side- “lightly,” Ran mouths to him as the older brother hurries to snatch the phone from the floor and get the fuck out of there.

“Holy shit! Is this that guy we smacked with a brick from Toman?!”

Rindou freezes, Ran’s voice loud and clear, echoing through the apartment and possibly the whole street as well. You stop squirming above him, eyes darkening and Rindou makes sure to note in his head that Ran was going to get it after this.

“You hit him?”

“In my defense, we were from different gangs and it was Ran-”

You made sure to relish in his little yelp when you dug your elbow in his stomach before turning and stumbling out of your room, grabbing Ran’s discarded baton along the way.

Rindou bemoans on the floor, curling into a ball and wishing Ran hell under his breath.

“You like this guy?” Ran teases, turning his head to wave your phone around, already having seen enough from the conversation as a small almost maniacal giggle left his lips. God, his little baby is growing up so soon-

His own baton comes flying to his face.

You come flying after, reaching out to your phone, teeth gritted and face burning as you duck.The two of you tumble into the kitchen floor, Ran’s waist also hitting the counter. “Fuck-”

“Die!”

“If it makes you feel better-” Ran manages to huff out. “I’ll completely support you and give you my permission.”

“Do I look like I need your permission to fall in love with someone?”

“No,” he grins despite the pain as you hover above him, stretching your arm to your phone that he still kept safe. Honestly, at least it wasn’t the brat that beat us up- “But if he hurts you, I am the one who’s going to pay for ice cream and your favorite clothes and things and food so that you’ll get over him and I’m also the one who’s going to beat him up.”

“Me too,” Rindou echoes.

Your cheeks grow hotter even more, biting on your lip. “Shut up…”

Ran coos from under you, patting your phone on your thigh. “We love you too.”

“I just hope that he puts the past behind him,” Rindou laughs sarcastically and you turn to throw a ladle you grabbed from the counter at him.

“You guys almost killed him!” Grabbing Ran’s shirt, you force him up with you, choking him. “I swear, if he hates me, I’ll make sure to drain both of your accounts.”

Ran’s smile breaks.

You meant it.
