I would be remiss if I did not mention that all of the monsters of the week from 1981's entry in the Super Sentai franchise Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan were called Mongers.

We had:

Spider Monger

Devil Monger

Diamond Monger

Gymnastics Monger

Rose Monger

And those are just a few! However, that series had more Mongers than an entire medieval marketplace!

well, now that its finished please allow me to gush about my favourite aspects of sun vulcan for a moment

the special and visual effects were on point throughout this entire season. i'm a sucker for silhouette against bright sun imagery (dramatic sunset fights are always fun but im talking midday sun here) and this show does it VERY. NICELY. (should have been expected i guess its literally called taiyo sentai sun vulcan) here are some of my favourite types of shots

the amount of love and effort and attention that has gone into this shows stunt work is palpable. it was FUN to watch like just pure joy every time they did anything and oh my god did they do things. lots of water fights, lots of wire work, lots of explosions, everyone was always flipping everywhere.

aside from their vulcan sticks shark and panther dont have weapons, which leads to their fights being very acrobatic and dynamic + the fun flavour their animal motifs bring to the table is 🤌🤌🤌. sharkys rollcall poses were a very quick top favourite. like denzigreen before him its such an over the top lil sequence/pose and it was always fun to see him really stick it

Eagle II DOES get a weapon - a normal, regular sword. he uses it well but oh my god does the blade feel so savage next to sharky's fucking bare hands lmao (at some point he loses the lil bells on it but i have a headcanon about that so its fine)

they made eagle II do a lot more stunt work than any of the other face actors (did he want to do all that or did they make him lmao)

sun vulcan robo holds his sword differently after the introduction of eagle II (VERY good. VERY good.)

this show should have begun with eagle II. literally who the fuck is eagle I i do not know him that man is a stranger to me

there is a lot more but i'm so tired and my brain feels like absolute mush lmao i think i need some time to chill out and chew on things but believe me i am not done talking about sun vulcan
