the detail we missed, yet again [ episode 24 spoilers ]

JUST before he slices the sword above Tahoumaru's head, there is an imaginary silhouette of Dororo behind him. This is in episode 24, when he recalls all the people he met along the way- Mio and the children, her death, the hole in Saburota's heart, the mother who attempted to sacrificed herself, and cupping Dororo's cheeks. It's like he was trying to understand and make sense of all the encounters with the limited senses he has, and what it truly means to be human.

Which was why he refused to kill his brother.

I watched this for the millionth time now, because frankly I'm addicted and everytime I watch it I notice something different each time. It's wonderful, I thought I saw a white haze behind him in between. I paused and was in shock- how did we miss this?

I have seen many people say that the show should be called 'Hyakkimaru', and Dororo is a useless character, or even an annoying brat. I wholeheartedly disagree. The reason why Hyakkimaru became human in the end, and not a blood-thirsty ronin, and why he understood what humanity and relationships mean, was because of that child.

Kannon-the Buddha who is the protector of childbirth, I would like to think when the idol sacrificed its head, it sent that child to him to vaporize those demonic embers in Hyakkimaru, by teaching what being human is. Children are pure beings, brimming with positivity even during harsh times. I think it's very philosophical. Dororo is called Dororo, because she was in fact who stuck by his side no matter what.

Had the deal not been made, Hyakkimaru would have already known what it feels like to have a family.

PLEASE y'all tell me this art I have in my head wasn't just dreamed up and was in fact real at some point??

So I recently watched Dororo w my bf and at the end of it I mentioned that I thought I saw an artwork someone did of Jukai, Nui and Tahoumaru living as peasants after the end of the show. I swear to god I remember seeing the picture, I think they were doing chores in the pic??

Hyakkimaru’s mothers giving up on life and essentially commiting suicide by not escaping a burning/collapsing building makes the ending of Dororo (2019) extremely unsatisfying because it goes directly against the established themes of the series, in this essay I will

My interpretation:

He doesn’t want his mother to see his bloodied hands and swords, so he hides them behind his back. “You didn’t see anything,mum!” 

Or

Like a child, he’s like “No, mum! These arms are mine! Mine! They’re mine! I’m not giving them back!” 

Then, there’s this

He recoils the second time his mother calls out to him - softly and gently this time - and bolted, possibly feeling unsure all of a sudden.
