#FACTElections2019: Know Thy Candidates (Lito Lapid)
Known and loved by many movie fans as Leon Guererro back in the day. he served the people from Pampanga to the Nation.
PROFILE
A Kapampangan since birth, Manuel Mercado Lapid was born on October 25, 1955 in the municipality of Porac. Lito is the 5th child of Jose Lapid and Eleuteria Mercado. He was graduated elemtary at Porac Central School back in 1968, while he finished secondary at St. Catherine Academy in the same municipality in 1972, months before Martial Law was declared. Although, he isn’t into college, he pursued his career in the entertainment industry from his beginnings as stuntman until he was a full-fleged actor.
His first apperance was in 1968 as a stuntman in his uncle’s movie ‘Leon Guerrero’.
14 years later, Lito assumed his role as Leon in the sequel ‘Alamat ni Leon Guerrero’.
In his entire career, ha already has 90+ movies and 2 TV shows, including the long-running ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” where he plays Romulo Dumaguit, obe of the antagonists in the series. His recent film apperance was last year’s MMFF entry ‘Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles’ as Sgt. Domingo, one of SPO3 Perfecto Fernandez’ (played by Vic Sotto) co-officer during the Philippine Constabulary era.
He began his political career when he ran for Vice-Governor of Pampanga in 1992 General Elections and he successfully defeated Cielo Macapagal-Salgado, his opponent. In the 1995 midterm elections, he ran for gubernatorial post against Bren Guiao and he eventually won for his 1st term. He again won in the 2nd (1998 General Elections) and 3rd Terms (2001 Midterm Elections). He was then a candidate of Lakas-NUCD during his 2nd win in the Gubernatorial race.
In 2004, he initially running for Mayor of Angeles City, but after encouragement from his mentors and fans, he eventually made a bid for Senator in the national elections that time. He was under President Gloria Macapaga-Arroyo’s K4 Coalition and he won in the elections. 2 years later, he then made a bid to run for Makati City mayor piting against long-running Jejomar Binay, but he said after he lost in the Mayoralty race, he’ll go back to the senate to finish his remaining 3 years in office.
In 2010, he ran again for his 2nd term and eventually he won and landed in the 11th spot, thus he ran under the Lakas-UMD but after he gave up his affiliation with the party, he became Independent.
He is the brains behind the ‘Lapid Law’, giving free legal access to indigent filipinos. During his senate term, he was the chairman of the Committee on Tourism (now handled by Sen. Nancy Binay) and Committee on Cooperatives.
He is married to Marissa Tadeo, and he blessed with 5 Children.
PERSONAL VIEW
I rarely watched some of his films and ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ (not to mention his appearance in ‘Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles’), but his dedicatioon to the nation never stops. From his career in showbiz to his political life, he is just neutral to the political views. I voted for him in 2010.
If you think Lito Lapid deserves to be in the senate once again, vote forhim on May 13. He is a Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) candidate where you can shade his name at No. 40.

Best natural home remedy treatment for mold allergies
Best natural home remedy treatment for mold allergies
In any place that is warm, damp and humid there can be mold. It is a type of fungus which grows in filaments and it reproduces via spores. These spores are present in the air. Eventually they will make their way to your nose. This is triggering allergic reaction which is causing symptoms like asthma, post – nasal drip, congestion, cough, eye irritation, a runny nose and sneezing. The prolonged exposure can lead to immune suppression and progressive lung conditions. [1] You should know that the mild mold allergy symptoms are generally not life – threatening but they can affect your everyday life. [2] The symptoms of mold allergy vary from person to person and they can range from mild to severe. There are some people who can have year – round symptoms or symptoms which flare up only during certain times of the year, like in the rainy season. Many people mistake the symptoms of mold allergy with cold or sinus infection because the symptoms of these conditions are very similar. There are some factors which can increase your risk of mold allergy such as living or working in a mold – infested building, living in a house with high humidity or poor ventilation, a weak immune system and a family history of allergies. [3] If you have mold allergy, then you need to talk with your doctor before you start using some of the below mentioned home remedies for this condition.
Home remedies for mold allergies
Borax: This home remedy will not provide a relief from the symptoms of mold allergy but it can effectively kill the harmful agent which is cause for this problem. This is a natural cleansing agent that is composed of minerals which can eliminate the mold spores and they can prevent further damage. You should know that when there are no spores, then your chances of suffering from mold allergy is automatically reduced. You should coat infested areas evenly with the borax powder. You should repeat it every other day in a period of week because this can ensure that there are no more spores left. Also you can spray borax solution onto wood surfaces from time to time because this can help you to prevent an infestation. To make this home remedy, you need to dissolve one teaspoon of borax powder in one cup of hot water. When you are using the borax, then you should use rubber gloves and wear goggles. [4] Vitamin D: This vitamin is very effective for preventing mold allergies. There was one study in which was said that the Vitamin D can be effective therapeutic agent to treat or prevent allergy to a common cold which can complicate asthma and frequently it is affecting people who suffer from cystic fibrosis. In this study was found that the Vitamin D can help to reduce the production of a protein driving the allergic response to mold and also it is increasing the production of proteins that are promoting tolerance. [5] Also we know that the Vitamin D is very important for the proper functioning of the immune system. In the morning, you should go out in the sun for ten to fifteen minutes because it can help your body to produce Vitamin D. Also you should eat foods that are rich in Vitamin D, such as Vitamin D – fortified cereals, egg yolks, beef liver and fatty fish (like tuna, mackerel and salmon). Also you can take Vitamin D in supplement form. Before you start taking Vitamin D supplements you need to talk with your doctor. Colloidal silver: It is a natural antibiotic which can help to eliminate toxins from the body in which mold spores are also included. Also this natural cure is not creating resistance or immunity in the pathogens it kills. This home remedy can help to people who suffer from mold allergy in many different ways. It will provide support to your immune system which in turn will limit the allergic reactions. Also you can use it as a cleaning agent that can help you to rid of fungi or mold quickly. You should take five or six drops of colloidal silver orally for immune system support. You should spray the mold – affected areas lightly using pure colloidal silver and then you need to ventilate the room because it can help to slow the growth of mold. When you are doing laundry, then you should add ½ cup of colloidal silver to rinse the cycles of your clothes washer. Apple cider vinegar: This is a natural detoxifying agent that can help to flush the system of mold spores and other irritants. Also it has antihistamine and antibiotic properties which can help to reduce the intensity of symptoms like headaches, nasal congestion, frequent sneezing and others. This natural cure plays an important role in regulating the body’s immune response system. [6] You need to add one tablespoon of organic and unfiltered apple cider vinegar to one glass of warm water. You should mix in one teaspoon of raw honey. Also you can add a little lemon juice in it. You should drink this home remedy two or three times per day until your condition improves.
Natural treatment for mold allergy
Ginger: You can use fresh and supplemental forms of ginger because they can help with different types of allergies in which mold allergy is also included. Also it can help to strengthen the immune system and it is acting as a natural antihistamine. Also it is very effective at reducing symptoms, such as cough, runny nose, nasal congestion and even a headache. You should drink two to three cups of ginger tea on daily basis because in this way you will have faster recovery. To make the ginger tea, you need to add one tablespoon of grated ginger to one cup of water and then boil it for five minutes. You should strain it add a little raw honey and lemon juice to it. Also you can chew small pieces of fresh ginger root sprinkled with a little salt several times per day. Also you can include the ginger in your cooking. [7] Garlic: This is one of the most powerful antifungal herbs. You can include it in your diet because this can help to reduce the risk of suffering from mold allergy. Also garlic has quercetin which is a natural antihistamine and it can help to reduce the severity of the symptoms after you have been exposed to mold. It is antifungal natural cure which can boost your immunity and it can help to fight allergy symptoms. You should chew two or three garlic cloves on daily basis because it can help to combat various symptoms of mold allergy. Also you can chop three or four garlic cloves and you should boil them in one cup of water for ten minutes. You should strain it and then add some raw honey to it. You should drink this home remedy two times per day. Also you can take garlic tablets. It is recommended to take 600 – 900 mg per day but you need to talk with your doctor before you start taking them. [8] Echinacea: This home remedy can boost your immune system. Also it is aiding in the ability of your body to fight off the fungi which are the main cause for the mold allergy. This natural cure can help to ease the symptoms and it can promote recovery. You should add three or four drops of Echinacea tincture to one glass of water. You should drink it three or four times per day but not more than one week. Also you can take Echinacea supplements after you have talked with your doctor. [9] Stinging nettle: It is a natural anti – inflammatory and antihistamine herb which is playing an important role in dealing with the symptoms of mold allergy. It can ease the nasal congestion and it can give a quick relief from symptoms like itching, sneezing and coughing. You should mix one tablespoon of dried stinging nettle in one cup of hot water. You should steep it for five minutes, strain it and then add a little honey in it. You should drink this tea two or three times per day until you have noticed that your symptoms are gone. Also you can take stinging nettle supplements but talk with your doctor before you start taking them. This home remedy is not recommended for young children and pregnant women. [10] Vitamin C rich foods: You should eat foods that are rich in Vitamin C because they can help your body to fight off the mold spores and they can minimize the symptoms of mold allergy. Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine which can help to fight off the symptoms. Also it is powerful antioxidant which can boost the immune system and it can build resistance to allergies. You should eat more foods that are rich in Vitamin C such as papayas, tomatoes, broccoli, dark leafy greens, berries, kiwis, bell peppers, oranges and lemons. References: [1] Frew AJ. Mold allergy. Tourists Avoid Catalonia During Separatist Crisis
Demonstrators holding banners that read in Catalan: "Freedom for the Political Prisoners", gather during a protest against the decision of a judge to jail ex-members of the Catalan government at the University square in Barcelona, Spain, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017. Manu Fernandez / Associated Press
Skift Take: Political turmoil is certainly one way to drive away tourists. One has to suspect that visitors will return to Spain's most popular city once the crisis is resolved.
— Andrew Sheivachman
Visitor trips to Catalonia took a hit as the Spanish region’s separatist movement came to a head.
While all major holiday destinations in Spain saw a jump in visits in October from a year earlier, the Catalonia region posted a 4.7 percent decline following a turbulent month. The region was rocked by a eferendum for independence from Spain on Oct. 1 that resulted in police violence and mass demonstrations culminating in an ill-fated declaration of independence.
The move prompted the central government of Mariano Rajoy to sack the Catalan cabinet, take direct control of the wealthy region and call an election due next month. Meanwhile, industry figures show revenue per available room — a key indicator of occupancy and rates — also fell in October. An industry official said the disruptions added to other difficulties.
The hospitality industry has had a rough patch. Over the summer, local critics of massive tourism argued that Barcelona, Spain’s most visited city, was being overwhelmed. The Catalan capital became the target of a deadly terror attack in September. Despite the setbacks, Catalonia remains the most popular Spanish region for foreign tourists who come for its rich offerings in culture, monuments, architecture and Mediterranean coastline.
While the nation is on track to extend a four-year economic recovery with at least 3 percent growth this year, the Spanish government has warned the Catalan crisis could hurt output in 2018 if downside risks materialize.
