Headcanons for Yamaguchi Tadashi with a Trans Male Boyfriend

Pairing: Yamaguchi Tadashi / Trans Male Reader + casual friendship with Tsukishima Kei Warnings: dysphoria, casual/accidental transphobia, mentions of substance use

Your relationship with Tadashi begins when you move into the house next door to his in the 3rd grade. You had been far more concerned with making friends than unpacking and latched on to Tadashi since he was the only other kid your age on the block.

A majority of your friendship was beating back bullies and getting into more fights than a "girl your age" should have. And out of all of the fights and potential injuries what bothered you the most was being called a girl.

It feels natural that you tell Tadashi first and he is supportive, even if he didn't quite understand. It was his hand in yours that gave you the courage to tell your parents, he was being your courage for a change.

You both meet Kei in middle school and it was nice, to no longer be alone in helping Tadashi find his courage.

It's Kei actually, that gives you the courage to tell Tadashi how you felt about him, rather, threatening to tell him if you didn't.

Its Kei and Tadashi that correct people about you, and Tadashi surprisingly enough that has to be held back when it turns out to be intentional. You and Kei both know he wouldn't ever win a fist fight, but you at least were still endeared that he was willing to lose if it was your honor involved.

Joining them at Karasuno is the logical next step even though you had no plans to ever set foot on a Volleyball court after how poorly it went in middle school. But you would be there to cheer on your boyfriend and your best friend every step of the way.

You had better things to do than club activities. That and while Karasuno had art classes they didn't have a specific club for it, so your afternoons were free. The days you weren't watching Tadashi and Kei practice you were tagging along with the third years from your art class.

Tadashi confronts you about the smoke he smells on your clothes, and your denial leads to your first real fight. A swirling nasty thing that devolved into a shouting match that ends with Kei acting as a go between for you two for all of a day before giving up and forcing you to sort it out yourselves.

He doesn't back down and for a change you do, agreeing to quit hanging out with that group and wait til college to see if you're still as interested in experimenting with that kind of thing when you're old enough

For the next three years Karasuno goes to the top and stands on the world stage. And every time beside the banner that says "Fly" there was a banner just for Tadashi hand made by you and different each time.

College leads you back to old habits, and Tadashi doesn't fuss quite as much this time.

You graduate and go on to be an illustrator for a sports advertiser, and Tadashi goes into sports medicine and has a list of pros from school that had most others envious.

There were times where you looked back and couldn't help but grin. You never thought persistently ringing the doorbell of the house next to yours would ever lead to this.

Tsukishima Kei

     He could tell, from the moment he lead eyes on you, that something is wrong. He's not one to reach out, never one to like comforting people, but when it's you, when you look so sad and so down, he can't help but feel his heart break and shatter. "Y/n,,, are you ok?" And it's all that took you to break down, tears running down your cheeks, feeling betrayed and unwanted, all you want was the world to swallow you. But it's when you felt his arms around you, pulling you closer. When his scent hit your lungs. When his warmth engulfed you, it's when you felt better, when you felt accepted. He didn't need to ask, he already knew what happened, you told him before hand that you're going to come out to your sister. So he knew, he could tell. And he's not one for words, not one for overbearing love. Simple just like him, but that was enough to make you feel better, his simple words were enough to bring a smile back to face, even small, he considered it success. "Y/n, I love you no matter what..."

Yamaguchi Tadashi

      You didn't have to think when twice when you first told him. You didn't have to think twice about who to turn to right now. Feeling so unworthy and unhappy, rejected, he was the one to go to. Because you knew, as soon as he saw you that he'd understand. His bright smile never fading away, not even when his heart was breaking into millions of pieces, not even when his lover is sobbing into his chest. He kept on smiling, he kept on radiating his warmth, he kept on accepting, loving you, in your brightest day or your darkest moments. He loves you no matter what, no matter what other people think of you. He loves you. Always bright, always kind and always there for you, he knows exactly what to say, how to say it "Y/n, I love you so much... I love you..."

Oikawa Toruu

     Always goofy and funny, but he knows when to take things seriously. So when you talked to him, you were actually surprised seeing him ever so... Composed, serious and attentive. In fact, so much, it made you stutter, confused and embarrassed, but don't you worry, he never meant anything wrong, he was proud, taken aback and happy that you trusted him so much. He gave you hope, he put a smile back on your face, he made all doubts go away. All for it to come crumbling back down, all the confidence, all the safety, protection came breaking down. It didn't take him long to realize, after all he was the one to hype you up, and he never felt as bad as he does now. Seeing your tear stained face, your body shaking and trembling, the spark in your eyes now lost, and so were his words. But he knew what to do, wrapping you in his arms, in his safety and happiness, he put your broken pieces all back together with his embrace and the simplest of words "I'll always be here with you my love..."

“Try is on,” Tadashi says as he throws a gray sweater at Y/N, who catches it with ease. Y/N looks down at the sweater, feeling the weight of it in his hands, before looking at Tadashi with a raised brow. Tadashi gave him an impatient look. “Come on. I want to see if you’re my size.”

Y/N’s brows scrunch slightly. “Why do you want to know that?”

Tadashi huffs, as if saying it should be obvious. “Well, I doubt what you’re wearing right now is comfortable, so I thought I could find you some clothes to wear while you’re over.”

Y/N is wearing the Karasuno girls’ uniform, and it’s uncomfortable. There’s nothing he can do about it, though. The only person he’s out to is Tadashi, and that had been an accident. So, Y/N’s used to wearing it, especially since he keeps himself busy enough to not think about it. Today, he’d gone over to Tadashi’s house right after their practices let out, so he hadn’t had a change to go home and change.

“What about pants?” Y/N asks, and Tadashi shakes his head.

“We’re not the same size. Go try on the sweater.”

“You don’t own any sweatpants?” Y/N asks, running his fingers along the soft sweater fabric.

Tadashi grumbles slightly as he gets up and looks in his dresser. Y/N holds back his laughter, enjoying how annoyed Tadashi gets sometimes. He wouldn’t have suggested it if the skirt wasn’t the most uncomfortable part of the uniform, which Tadashi most likely knew, but it’s hard getting pants when you don’t know someone’s size.

“Here,” Tadashi says, throwing the pants at Y/N, who catches them with the sweater. “Now, go change.”

“You’re so demanding. You could at least say please,” Y/N teases, but Tadashi only gives him a stern look. He sighs slightly as he rolls his eyes and goes straight to the bathroom to try the clothes on.

Y/N loves the sweater, which Tadashi knows. The fabric is so soft, and he wishes he could run his fingers over it forever. There had been times where Y/N forced Tadashi to hug him just for a moment so he could feel the fabric, and Tadashi always faked being upset, but a smile lingered on his face after.

The sweatpants are a little long, but not bad. If he tucks them into his socks or rolls them up just a little, then it’ll be fine. The main issue is how warm they are, but Y/N doesn’t mind. It’s far more comfortable than a skirt.

“How do I look?” Y/N asks as he walks into Tadashi’s room, looking in the mirror in Tadashi’s closet.

Y/N’s body shape looks more masculine since the clothes erased his curves. He has a soft, small smile on his face as he runs his hands along the material, and he’s never felt so comfortable. When he looks back at Tadashi, he notices that Tadashi is slightly starry-eyes. Y/N gives him a look, and Tadashi jumps slightly.

“You look, uh, good,” Tadashi says, his face turning bright red as he looks away from Y/N. “Like masculine, or, um, handsome.”

“You look good,” Tadashi said, and his face turned bright red at the words. “Like masculine. Or uh, handsome.”

Y/N’s smile is bright as he looks down at his feet, suddenly shy. “Really?”

“Yes.” Tadashi walks over to him, and Y/N looks up at him. “Once you get a haircut and a binder, you’ll be a cool guy even Tsukki admires.”

Y/N laughs a little. “I doubt Tsukishima-san will ever see me as cool, guy or not, but thank you, though.”

“You never talk to him, so how is supposed to know that you’re cool?”

Y/N rolls his eyes before looking back at the mirror. “He won’t see me as a cool guy if I never get to come out.”

Y/N messes with the sweater, trying to get it to lay the perfect way. Tadashi watches him, having seen him do it a million times at school and now here.

“Well, you’re going to come over eventually, and I’ll be here when you do,” Tadashi says, and Y/N stops fixing his shirt as he makes eye contact with him in the mirror. “Until then, remember that you’re L/N Y/N, and that’s how I see you, even if others don’t yet.”

Y/N smiles as tears burn in his eyes and lets out an airy laugh. “Thank, Tadashi. For the words and the clothes.”

“No problem,” Tadashi says, and his smile only grows. “Any time. Well, after I buy you your own clothes, then any time.”

If you thought you knew what support is think again.

He cares so much about you that even if he's confused about how you're feeling he'll listen and then research it.

You don't like the hormone shots you're on? Tanaka will schedule an appointment so you can move forward properly. Anything for you.

Tanaka makes it his goal to make you the happiest you that you can be. He'll be there every step of the way.

A pretty good listener. He'll sit next to you while you cry, telling you he'll be here for you always and that you're beautiful inside and out. He will sometimes talk but he’ll shut up when he realizes it. 

If he can't be there in person he'd call. Sometimes just hearing his voice is reassuring when things are feeling too heavy.

Never pressures you into doing anything. Even if you have plans he'll cancel them. If you tell him that you can't go out to dinner because none of your clothes feel right or you don't want to make an appearance he'll stay with you.

When you're feeling especially insecure about your body Tanaka will hold you. Everything would be silent (maybe some sappy song in the background), nothing to process except Tanaka's sweet words and warm embrace.

Tanaka never wants you to feel alone.

He wants you to know he's always there for you, even when you can't be there for yourself.                            

𝐓. 𝐘𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐔𝐂𝐇𝐈

Yamaguchi feels helpless at first. He's worried he won't be able to comfort you when everything becomes too heavy. He's anxious you'll spiral deeper because he can't help you.

What he doesn't know is that he's a big help when you feel awful.

Considerate and observant, Yamaguchi brings you all your favorite things. Movies, books, foods. He gets all the things he knows you like to try and make you feel better.

Of course he realizes material possessions won't fix how you're feeling. Yamaguchi will stay with you as long as you need him to. Even if he's just holding your hand or helping you cut your hair. He's there at a moment's notice.

It makes him a bit angry and confused when you say what you're feeling dysphoric about. You don't like how high your voice is? He adores your laugh though? He knows why you don't like these things and respects it. But he'll never not see you as perfect, no matter your gender.

He tells you that every chance he gets too. If you thought Tanaka was a simp, well, get ready for Yamaguchi.

Stuff like: "That top looks really good on you!", "I love your smile and laugh. I'll tell another joke so I can see it!" are said a lot more

Reassures he's always there.

3 am and you've been having a long struggle with taking a shower? He'll rush over to help if that's what you'd like. Five minutes before a date and you can't bring it in yourself to go? He'll happily cancel.

Yamaguchi would rather hold you while watching movies anyway.

𝐓. 𝐀𝐎𝐍𝐄

It's true he's not the most expressive person but he'll show you he's there for you.

The best listener. Forget about how great Tanaka and Yamaguchi are at listening. Aone is a million times better.

He's not as great at cheering you up though. He tries his hardest though and that's enough!

His support is shown through his actions. In the way he'll stay up late with you or sleep in late in your bed. How he'll buy you your pads because you don't want to look at them longer than you have to.

Aone is super considerate of you. He won't make plans unless he knows you want to go. He's also ready to cancel on outing to stay instead withing a snap of your fingers.

Probably the best one to have at doctor visits.

He listens so carefully to what your doctor says. Prior to the visit he was listening intently to what you were saying about your treatment in case you forgot to mention anything.

Of course if you purposely avoided saying something he wouldn't tell the doctor.

Has a very gentle and calm approach. Part of it is that he's not great at expressing his feelings. The other part being that he doesn't want to be too blunt and hurt you further.

Knows that sometimes the best way to be there for someone is to just reassure them.

𝐊. 𝐊𝐘𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐈

He cares about you a lot. And I mean a lot.

Pays close attention at any doctor visits he tags along with. He also keeps a close eye on you at home.

Unprepared but also very prepared.

He's ready to comfort you when you're feeling awful. He's also scared he'll be too rough and hurt your feelings too. When I say he's prepared I mean he knows what to do in his head, it's just acting it out can be hard. He takes the same determination on the court to your appointments.

Usually Kyotani is able to make you feel better. Without words and with only actions usually. Like he’ll bring you into a hug when you’re rambling about how he wouldn’t ever want to touch you and feel you melt into his body. 

Definitely the "aggressively caring" type. He also holds you accountable of dates and when to take your medication. 

But Kyotani is also really soft and will try his best to be patient with you. Especially since he's learning about this everyday with you. He'll research about it on his own but will also talk to you since he doesn't want to push any boundaries.

Will bring his dog over if you like dogs.

It'll make him so happy to see you smiling because his dog is licking your nose when you've been fighting tears for days. If he can't make you feel better he will kinda rely on his dog.

Sometimes it'll be hard for Kyotani to be patient but he'll always try to help you get through this. He'll make sure you know you aren't alone through the highs and lows.

He was lying on his back, legs thrown over your shoulders, whimpering as you ate out his ass. You looked up and were met with the biggest, most tearful eyes you'd ever seen from him.

Haikyuu!! Genderbend AU

(haikyuu trans au x fem! reader - pt.1 Tadashi Yamaguchi sample, tw; trans slur ahead please enjoy)

Tadashi woke up in a cold sweat for the forth night in a row, she looked over to her right and noticed a (h/c) haied girl sleeping in a chair next to her. She looked around and realized this was not her room. Then she remembered... “mom, I’m a girl..” “what is that supposed to be? a joke?? well its not funny” “no mom, I’m serious...I really don’t feel comfortable in my body. I’m a girl” “No- I didn’t raise my son to be a tranny” Yamaguchi winced at the word son, she always had. She never really felt right being called a boy and now she new why. “mom I mean it- I’m serious! You always wanted a girl anyways, so what so wrong about it!” “I don’t care if I don’t have a daughter! I have my son..I have you..” She smiled at her sweetly “No mom,” Her mom quirked a brow as she watched Yamaguchi grab a backpack “You don’t have a son anymore, and now you wont even have a daughter.” Yamaguchi quickly opened the door and left and never looked back.

Yamaguchi grabbed her phone off the side table and read all the messages she had from not only her friends but her mom. The one’s from her friends were mostly “we love you”’s and “we’re always here!” which made her smile. and the ones from her mom weren’t that nice. Thankfully she turned of her location. Suddenly shuffling was to her right and her head snapped in the direction of the (h/c) haired girl. She looked and Yamaguchi and smiled sleepily.  “good morning Yams, has Kei-kun messaged you yet?” Yamaguchi blushed at the sight of the girl. She sighed assuming the blush was for Tsukishima and not her. “Why won’t you tell me why you ran away..?” She suddenly asked, Yamaguchi looked taken aback. I mean it wasn’t as if she was asking her why she was staying but the intention felt the same. “because you might hate me afterwards”  “hate you why? Yams the only thing you could do to make me hate you is murder someone, if that!” “(name), you don’t understand...” “Yams I probably understand a lot of what could be happening.. I just wished you trusted me more” “I-I do! I do trust you!! Its just- I don’t want to loose the only home I have...” “And you wont!! Yams please just tell-’ “Okay, okay! I’m trans!”  “Oh, that’s it?” “What do you mean thats it..?’ “Well, I don’t see the big deal. So you’re a girl in the wrong body what of it? Yams I love you no matter what and if you need help to raise money for surgeries or anything like that I’ll happily help you!” “Aww (name)” Yamaguchi started to sniffle, and those sniffles slowly turned into a cry “thank you, I love you too!” she smiled and latched on to the girl beside her. “Now lets go get you some new clothes” [btw I’m taking critics, this is my first post but I’d like to get better!]

Some of them are more general trans! reader who’s dysphoric headcanons with a couple lines referring to a female to male reader. I hope that’s okay! If you thought you knew what support is think again.

He cares so much about you that even if he's confused about how you're feeling he'll listen and then research it.

You don't like the hormone shots you're on? Tanaka will schedule an appointment so you can move forward properly. Anything for you.

Tanaka makes it his goal to make you the happiest you that you can be. He'll be there every step of the way.

A pretty good listener. He'll sit next to you while you cry, telling you he'll be here for you always and that you're beautiful inside and out. He will sometimes talk but he’ll shut up when he realizes it. 

If he can't be there in person he'd call. Sometimes just hearing his voice is reassuring when things are feeling too heavy.

Never pressures you into doing anything. Even if you have plans he'll cancel them. If you tell him that you can't go out to dinner because none of your clothes feel right or you don't want to make an appearance he'll stay with you.

When you're feeling especially insecure about your body Tanaka will hold you. Everything would be silent (maybe some sappy song in the background), nothing to process except Tanaka's sweet words and warm embrace.

Tanaka never wants you to feel alone.

He wants you to know he's always there for you, even when you can't be there for yourself.                            

𝐓. 𝐘𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐔𝐂𝐇𝐈

Yamaguchi feels helpless at first. He's worried he won't be able to comfort you when everything becomes too heavy. He's anxious you'll spiral deeper because he can't help you.

What he doesn't know is that he's a big help when you feel awful.

Considerate and observant, Yamaguchi brings you all your favorite things. Movies, books, foods. He gets all the things he knows you like to try and make you feel better.

Of course he realizes material possessions won't fix how you're feeling. Yamaguchi will stay with you as long as you need him to. Even if he's just holding your hand or helping you cut your hair. He's there at a moment's notice.

It makes him a bit angry and confused when you say what you're feeling dysphoric about. You don't like how high your voice is? He adores your laugh though? He knows why you don't like these things and respects it. But he'll never not see you as perfect, no matter your gender.

He tells you that every chance he gets too. If you thought Tanaka was a simp, well, get ready for Yamaguchi.

Stuff like: "That top looks really good on you!", "I love your smile and laugh. I'll tell another joke so I can see it!" are said a lot more

Reassures he's always there.

3 am and you've been having a long struggle with taking a shower? He'll rush over to help if that's what you'd like. Five minutes before a date and you can't bring it in yourself to go? He'll happily cancel.

Yamaguchi would rather hold you while watching movies anyway.

𝐓. 𝐀𝐎𝐍𝐄

It's true he's not the most expressive person but he'll show you he's there for you.

The best listener. Forget about how great Tanaka and Yamaguchi are at listening. Aone is a million times better.

He's not as great at cheering you up though. He tries his hardest though and that's enough!

His support is shown through his actions. In the way he'll stay up late with you or sleep in late in your bed. How he'll buy you your pads because you don't want to look at them longer than you have to.

Aone is super considerate of you. He won't make plans unless he knows you want to go. He's also ready to cancel on outing to stay instead withing a snap of your fingers.

Probably the best one to have at doctor visits.

He listens so carefully to what your doctor says. Prior to the visit he was listening intently to what you were saying about your treatment in case you forgot to mention anything.

Of course if you purposely avoided saying something he wouldn't tell the doctor.

Has a very gentle and calm approach. Part of it is that he's not great at expressing his feelings. The other part being that he doesn't want to be too blunt and hurt you further.

Knows that sometimes the best way to be there for someone is to just reassure them.

𝐊. 𝐊𝐘𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐈

He cares about you a lot. And I mean a lot.

Pays close attention at any doctor visits he tags along with. He also keeps a close eye on you at home.

Unprepared but also very prepared.

He's ready to comfort you when you're feeling awful. He's also scared he'll be too rough and hurt your feelings too. When I say he's prepared I mean he knows what to do in his head, it's just acting it out can be hard. He takes the same determination on the court to your appointments.

Usually Kyotani is able to make you feel better. Without words and with only actions usually. Like he’ll bring you into a hug when you’re rambling about how he wouldn’t ever want to touch you and feel you melt into his body. 

Definitely the "aggressively caring" type. He also holds you accountable of dates and when to take your medication. 

But Kyotani is also really soft and will try his best to be patient with you. Especially since he's learning about this everyday with you. He'll research about it on his own but will also talk to you since he doesn't want to push any boundaries.

Will bring his dog over if you like dogs.

It'll make him so happy to see you smiling because his dog is licking your nose when you've been fighting tears for days. If he can't make you feel better he will kinda rely on his dog.

Sometimes it'll be hard for Kyotani to be patient but he'll always try to help you get through this. He'll make sure you know you aren't alone through the highs and lows.
