🦅 an angsty quote

I have had the THORS rewrite on the brain,, tis the season!

Yes!! I am so determined to at least get another chapter up before the holidays - and I've had a decent chunk of chapter 2 written for a while but this year has been insaaaaaane. But still I'm trying!!! Ok and I don't know why I even do these things because I go to get a quote and then I'm like wait but you need this context for it and you need this other context for that and then suddenly I'm just putting the whole scene in there which. Is not what I'm supposed to do I think. So I will just have to try to live without this having the full context EVEN THOUGH it's a much better quote with all of that and it IS going to bother me. This angst falls in a lightly smutty flashback (so this is Eleven) because idk I like to multitask I guess haha. And yes this is the SHORTEST quote I could manage, I'm the worst.

“Oh, I know,” she announced, obligingly shifting to the edge of the panel as the Doctor pressed a lingering kiss to each inner thigh— “what about the Singing Towers?”   His hearts skipped an agonising, interminable beat.  Finally, the next one struck— like two heavy stones in the chest.   “You’ve been promising for age—ah!”  River jolted against the sudden press of his mouth, laughed breathlessly as she melted into him.  She wound tender, trembling fingers through his hair, the Towers blessedly forgotten. If only he could so easily forget.  Cold dread roiled in the Doctor’s aching chest, but he shoved it down.  No, no, no, no.  Not now.  Not today.  He adored River at any age, but it was her much-younger self he’d been clinging to lately, if only for the breathing room those early days afforded.  They felt safer, out of the shadow of the looming end.  But she hadn’t done Manhattan, so today was safe, too.  It could be a good day.  For her, he’d make it a good one. He slammed shut the doors on the extraneous senses in his mind, blocking out everything beyond now.  He wouldn’t have this marred by their timelines drawing in around them, pulling tight as he fought with slipping, bloodied hands for one more breath.

literally all the time with succ. i know you know this bc i complain about it to you all the time. what i originally conceived as a one-shot smut has evolved into a novella-length work in progress that still has a while to go before it's done. and these characters keep trying to do things i hadn't originally planned for them.

but you know, writing is a game of discovery. that's what i like about it. i love having my plans disrupted because it usually means i've found something new that works even better. as frustrating as it is

19. what are some books or authors that influenced your style the most?

i'm not sure. i think i absorb whatever i'm currently reading and unconsciously incorporate it into what i'm writing. i don't think i've ever tried specifically to emulate a writing style. that said, if i could write prose as deliciously purple as that in this is how you lose the time war by max gladstone and amal el-mohtar, i'd be so happy
