I heard about King James and his courtiers but I knew very little about George Villiers. This mini-series is splendidly made and all the actors are phenomenal. I have a weakness for Tom Curran and I have followed his acting career for many years now.

Some might argue that King James and the Duke of Buckingham did not share a loving relationship. They might also say that their long term relationship was more of an arrangement. It might be true but I personally think that a relationship that lasts over decades must somehow based itself more on feelings than just own interests.

Still She Haunts Me, Phantomwise: Natalie Gregory promoting Irwin Allen's lavish 1985 two-part "Alice In Wonderland" TV mini-series. I still love this, desperately and eternally, and I recall it being quite the event at the time. It's my personal favorite "Wonderland" adaptation, Gregory my ideal Alice, lost and frightened, but also very poised and assertive. It aired just before Christmas back in '85, but because of all the pastel colors, flowers, rabbits, and talking animals, I tend to associate it more so with Easter. The Psychotronic Video Guide called it "Alice Goes To Showbiz Hell!," but I just get giddy over all of the classic Hollywood guest stars, some of whom have since incarnated Carroll's characters for me. Marvel at the massive sets, costumes, and catchy songs that I can still hum on a dime. Delight in the dark, spooky, absolutely jarring turn that the Looking Glass segment immediately takes, the Jabberwocky haunting my fondest nightmares to this day.
