bylers: he asked him to be friends when they were in kindergarten because he saw him all alone and it was the best thing he's ever done. he spent all of season one tirelessly searching for him and never giving up hope. he instantly recognized his voice on the radio. he always listens to what will has to say and is there by his side to help him through it. he told him they'd go "crazy together." he keeps a binder full of his drawings and looks at them when he misses him. he sat sleeping by his hospital bed. he's his safe space. he's his home. he fought back against his bullies because they were making fun of him in his absence. he was prepared to jump off a cliff to be with him. he went home crying to his mom when they thought his body was found. he's so attuned to his moods that he always knows when something's bothering him. he stared at him sadly after encouraging him to dance with a girl. when he messes up he apologizes instantly and acknowledges he was in the wrong. he biked through the rain to make it up to him. when he didn't find him he went searching in the woods for him in the dark. he was worried he would want to join another party. he lost a part of himself when he moved away. he tried to call him all the time but he never knew. he stares at his lips all the time. he has a gentle voice reserved just for him. he couldn't hug him at the airport because he thought he liked a girl. he said "we're friends. we're friends." he was paying attention to every single thing he said and did and it was killing him that he wasn't looking at him or laughing at his jokes. he paid more attention to him than his own girlfriend. he said he felt like he lost him, and that hawkins wasn't the same without him. he looked him up and down with the flirtiest look known to man. he crumpled up the letter right away after he told him to do it. he lit up like the sun when he saw his painting. he made him feel appreciated and valued when he needed it most. he looks at him like he hung the moon and the stars. he only said he loved her because he told him he was the heart, and the pain was written all over his face. they opened up to each other about their fears of the future. they agreed to be a team again.

Color theories and serial killers aside, the s5 redo is what’s really intriguing. Eddie’s storyline then was SO queer coded, and could’ve (should’ve) led to his awakening, but that didn’t happen. Depriving Buck of his main supports right now is PERFECT for a realization though. He doesn’t really go to anyone but Maddie about Eddie, and he doesn’t go to anyone but Eddie about much of anything else. He’s on his own, forced to face his emotions without Maddie or Eddie to guide/ advise him, and they're even bringing back Ravi so Buck faces the fact Eddie is replaced but really can't be. He has no LI to keep him occupied, so he’s spinning out with only one conclusion to reach. That he loves Eddie.

Meanwhile Eddie is forced to confront another aspect of his identity. He's always been just "firefighter and dad," and he confronted the firefighter aspect in s5. God has spoken. But he had to step away from the job to realize that's where he belongs. Same thing with Christopher. He has to step away and confront the fact that his parents failed him and that he is a good dad.
