11 pages of Mikey chaos once more. Who left them in a room alone together??
I finally updated Too Many Turtles! Read the latest chapter here!
In which The Cult Of Michelangelo has a summoning ritual, 2012 Donatello is tried for his crimes (being cringe) and what else but another cliffhanger?
I am so sorry about all the delays but I’ve had to stop everything because I can’t do any of my assignment and it’s due…quite soon 😭, you could say. I love it when my uni assigns the development of an ENTIRE APP over Xmas how cute. Slay.

Another amazing piece by @burgersaucee! Based on Raph & Casey’s sparring sessions in the Mutant Mayhem fanfic Reciprocity!
Their friendship is always one of my favorite parts of any TMNT. I’m so impatient for MM Casey’s introduction that I couldn’t wait!
Thanks again, Shay!

Heavy Sleeper
I wrote like half of this at 3am 6 months ago and finally decided to finish it 😅
Generation: Bayverse, 2003, 2007 TMNT
TMNT Donatello x Reader
Pronouns: Gender Neutral

Summary: You overworked yourself past exhaustion helping Donnie with a new project. Not that you minded. Or noticed, until it was too late.
Word Count: 3229
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
It has been a long night. …..and a long morning. You had been spending the last few days with Donnie occupied in the lab, helping him with some of the smaller, more detailed work on his new security device. While you were busy soldering pathways onto extra small microchips at the workbench, Donnie was typing away creating the programming at his computer. It required a high level of focus. Which, honestly, you usually didn’t have. However, this project had all your attention, and you had been happily hyper focused on designing the little golden pathways on those tiny green wafer boards for almost 3 days straight.
Donnie was extremely grateful for your help. But he was suspicious how his energetic little dove was being so quiet and still while they worked. The thought came to him a few times that he should go check on you again, but he was equally engrossed in his own project and kept getting sucked back into the work.
Your trick was: caffeine. You had discovered in college that if you drank caffeine on an empty stomach, you could stay extra focused for hours on end. Obviously, this wasn’t good for your health. Or your stomach. But usually you would finish whatever project it was you were laser focused on within the day, so the strain on your body wouldn’t last that long.
This was lasting very long. Very very long. And you had no idea of the passage of time. There was no sun peeking through curtains to inform you that you had worked through the night, or disgruntled roommate checking in to wonder why you hadn’t emerged all day. Donnie’s brothers were very well used to his overworking tendencies, so they paid it no mind he was only coming out for coffee and pop tarts. What they didn’t realize was that you were still in the lair, all assuming you had gone home after the first night. So none had thought to go in to check on the lab.
Here lies the dilemma. It had been maybe 64 hours since you had slept or properly consumed anything besides coffee and a singular package of pop tarts, frequently forgetting about the pile of snacks Donnie kept leaving on your desk. Your back was stiff, muscles sore, and your throat was starting to feel incredibly dry. But all your attention being on finishing your project meant all your physical awareness was finely tuned out.
Except that little tickle in the back of your throat.
It started maybe 5…. 6 hours ago. It was a little bothersome, making you clear your throat and drink a little more coffee to soothe it. But it kept coming back. The tickle started to become a little painful, and clearing your throat turned into small dry coughs. You were drinking more and more coffee to try and wash down the feeling or maybe chase away the dehydration. Your lips started to feel dry, then your eyes, joining in with your uncomfortably dry throat. By the time evening rolled around, your chest was burning terribly, and a migraine had started to thrum with your pulse. Having finished your pot of coffee maybe 2 hours ago and hadn’t bothered to go make more, you were thinking you just needed to get more to drink.
You took a small pause in your welding to push up your goggles and wipe at your dry eyes, when suddenly your vision blurred. For a second, you suddenly found your body lurching to the side off your chair before you caught yourself on the side of the desk.
‘Huh… that was weird. Maybe I’m just tired. I’ll go make more coffee.’
Donnie had been bringing you refills whenever he had gotten up to make more, but you had finished your pot twice as fast as usual. You moved to the side of your chair to stand, and your feet touched the ground with your full weight. To your surprise, your knees almost buckled underneath you, and blackness started to creep in the edges of your vision.
Your body felt weak, and your muscles ached. Keeping a death grip on the edge of the table, you took a slow step towards Donnie’s part of the lab, then another. You blinked rapidly to try and chase away the encroaching darkness creeping in your vision, but too soon your eyesight went dark, and it felt like your brain was shutting down. Internally, you were panicking and fighting to stay conscious, but all you could manage was weakly calling out for Donnie before you blacked out. You didn’t even feel yourself hit the ground.
Donnie, on the other side of the lab, had pulled away from his computer moments before to rub a hand down over his face. This line of code was driving him crazy and he couldn’t figure out where he’d gone wrong. He briefly heard the scrape of (y/n) pushing their chair away from the table, and expected to hear your footsteps head past him to the small bathroom in the back of the lab. He took a moment to flag this line of code- again, for further meddling later. The genius turtle had to admit he was reaching his limits on staying awake and figured it was time he took himself and (y/n) to bed.
But where was (y/n)? They hadn’t come in to greet him yet. Were they just adjusting their chair? That was when he heard it.
“d….don nie…” your voice called out weakly, strained, and barely above a whisper before he heard a light thud from the other room. Had you dropped something? He quickly pulled himself to stand and made his way to the other room to check on what it was you needed.
There. On the floor. You laid still and unmoving on your side against the cold floor.
“(Y/N)!!!!” Donnie exclaimed. Startled, he rushed to your side and dropped down beside you, pulling you into his lap. “(Y/n)! (Y/N)!!!!” He shook you slightly trying to rouse your attention, but your eyes were closed and your body fully limp in his arms. Unresponsive. Quickly, he felt for your pulse, sighing when he found it, but worried by the heightened pace. Donnie scooped you up into his arms and quickly carried you towards the med bay across the lair.
He made his way out of his lab and passed the living room where Mikey and Leo were watching a movie on the TV, and Raph was making a sandwich in the kitchen.
“Huh? Donnie? Is that (y/n)? I didn’t see them come in… are they asleep??” Leo asked when he saw Donnie rush out holding you in his arms.
“No time. (Y/n) fainted in the lab.” Donnie rushed out and speed walked through the clear plastic panels into the med bay, ignoring the startled ‘WHAT’ echoed by Leo and Mikey, and what sounded like Raph choking on his sandwich.
He laid you out gently on the padded white exam table, 3 sizes too big for you, and rushed around the drawers and cabinets. He acquired a stethoscope, thermometer, blood pressure pump, and various other tools to properly check your health and brought them over to the table beside you just as his brothers rushed in.
“ANGELCAKES ARE YOU OKAY??? Ow-“ Mikey rushed in pushing past Leo and Raph and dramatically ran to your side before Raph smacked the back of his head.
“Mikey, chill out. Give ‘em some room.” Raph growled out, trying to pull his dramatic little brother back while Leo stepped forward.
“Donnie, what happened to (y/n)?”
Donnie was now wearing the stethoscope and had the end pressed to the rise and fall of your chest as your breathing strained.
“Hmm… heart palpitations… lungs… crackling sound… that can’t be good.” Donnie was muttering notes under his breath, reaching up to place his hand over your forehead. He found a scorching hot fever and his heart sank. Only then did he turn to Leo. “We… we’ve been working in the lab the past few days… pretty intensely….” Donnie winched. “In hindsight, we did not take as many breaks as we should have. It appears (y/n) has collapsed from exhaustion.” Donnie’s eyes went downcast. He looked equally tired, but guilt was weighing heavy on his shoulders.
“They’ve been here all along?? We thought they went home days ago. Aren’t they usually the one making sure you’re eating and taking breaks to sleep?” The shock in Leo’s voice was clear. You were usually so doting with Donnie, cooking his favorite foods and dragging him off to bed with you to make sure he was well taken care of when he got too involved in his work. It appears this time the tables were turned. “They were helping you with a project? Have they been eating enough?” Leo pressed.
That seemed to have caught Donnie’s attention and he suddenly turned back to continue his check on you. “Yes, I’ve been bringing them snacks whenever I’d get up for coffee. They must’ve been weakened from lack of rest and dehydration…. I’m going to check their blood pressure.” Donnie wrapped the cuff around your arm, and started to inflate it when you started to stir.
“Huh… that doesn’t look good.”
Your eyes fluttered open and you took a deep breath. The bright lights making you wince and shut your eyes again. You moved to bring a hand up to your face but was surprised to feel the tug of something around your arm.
“Mmh? Donnie…? What time is it…” You stretched, confused as to why your body ached so much. Why was he looming over you? And his room was never this bright or cold.
“(Y/n)! Thank goodness… Darling, when was the last time you ate?” Donnie held your shaky hand in his and gently stroked his thumb over your knuckles.
“Hm…? The uh…. Pop tarts you gave me…”
Donnie sighed in relief, remembering he had brought you a package of pop tarts to set on your desk just that afternoon.
“Right after we took a nap together.”
Then Donnie blanched.
“Sweetheart… our last nap together was almost 3 days ago. What happened to the snacks I was leaving on your desk…?” He asked, trying to be hopeful. They had disappeared each time he had returned, so he assumed you had eaten them.
“3 days…? Oh…. Um… they were in the way, so I moved them to the bench for later…. I must’ve forgotten about them.”
Leo slapped a hand over his face. He was realizing you and his brother had more in common than he thought.
“Mikey, can you please go make some soup? Raph, please let dad know that (y/n) will be staying over for the next few days.” Mikey did a mock salute and rushed to the kitchen to make some light chicken noodle soup and Raph left to find Master Splinter in his plant room. Leo went to grab some clean blankets and a spare pillow from their storage room.
Your breathing was labored in the now quiet room. You turned your head to the side to rest against the cool pillow as you gazed up at Donnie with your shiny dazed eyes, cheeks flushed and red. “I almost finished the motherboard… just gotta… add the red and yellow wires…” You trailed off as your eyes slid shut. They burned with exhaustion and the light was hurting your head.
Donnie leaned in close and cupped your cheek gently, and pressed a kiss to your sweaty forehead. His brow furrowed with worry, but his eyes were soft with adoration. “You did an amazing job. I’ll finish it up later, you just get some rest. Okay?” His thumb stroked your cheek.
“Mh hm… don’t forget the… polyimide adhesive tape…’s under my jacket…” You mumbled as you easily slipped into sleep.
Donnie smiled at you. He loves you. He loves that you taught yourself engineering to help him out with his workload. But right now he was regretting it, seeing the heavy bags under your eyes as you slept soundly. He scrubbed a hand down his face and sighed.
When you learned that it was difficult for him and his brothers to do the delicate work of designing circuit boards for their tech, he was surprised you immediately showed interest in learning. He admittedly didn’t take you very seriously at first. But then you started joining him in the lab on long nights to study books you had checked out from the library on basic engineering, he taught you how to assemble his tech and how to solder and weld the machines together into things that would help them on patrol and repair things around the lair. He still remembers the first thing you’d ever made. The poorly soldered little metal band he wore around his right pinky finger.
Leo came back in with the blankets in tow. “Should we move them to your bed?” He asked Donnie.
“Not yet, I need to set them up with an IV to get some fluids in them first. I suspect they’re very dehydrated, on top of the general exhaustion.” Donnie was swaying in place. He looked exhausted, and Leo felt worry for you and his brother. It had been a long time since you last let him overwork himself to this extent. He blamed himself for not checking in on his brother sooner.
”Why don’t you go lie down? I’ll set up (y/n)’s IV and keep an eye on them.”
”But (y/n)….”
”-Would want you to rest.” Leo finished with a knowing smile.
Donnie sighed and looked you over. Leo unfolded the blanket and draped it over you so you wouldn’t get cold. Donnie fussed with bringing the edge right up under your chin and fixed your hair. He didn’t want to leave you in here, but he knew Leo was right. He wouldn’t be much use to you if both of you collapsed from exhaustion, so he relented.
”Wake me up if you need anything.” Donnie stood up on shaky legs.
”Uh huh.” Leo put his hands on Donnie’s shoulders and led him out of the med bay.
”And I mean anything-“
“Of course Donnie, now go to bed.” Leo pushed him out in the direction of their bedrooms. Raph and Mikey in the kitchen watched as Donnie trudged and swayed towards his bedroom, and disappeared into the darkness swinging his door shut.
“Duuude. Do I gotta start hiding the coffee again?” Mikey said from where he was chopping veggies for your soup.
Leo pointed at Mikey, “No more caffeine for those two for a month!”
Raph grunted a laugh.
Leo had set up your IV, just like Donnie had taught him. After an hour and a half, your body had absorbed most of the fluids, so Leo felt satisfied enough to wake you up. He shook your shoulder a bit to wake you up. You were deep asleep. The soup at your bedside that Mikey had brought in had cooled to a safe temperature, so he wanted to make sure you ate something hearty before he sent you back to bed.
”Mmh?” You finally started to stir.
”(Y/n), wake up. You’ve got to eat something.” Leo coaxed.
Your eyes fluttered open and immediately winced at the bright light. Leo stood over you to shield your eyes from the overhead light as you adjusted.
“Where’s Donnie?” You asked a bit dazed, looking around. The tickle in your throat was now a scratchy and irritated pain. You coughed hard into your fist.
”He went to bed. Here, Mikey made you some soup. It should still be warm enough.” Once you had sat up he handed you the bowl.
“Try and eat as much of it as you can, so you can take your medicine.”
You hummed in response, stifling another cough. You balanced the soup in your lap and slowly ate, spooning the warm chicken stock and veggies into your mouth. It soothed your throat, and with a few more bites you felt less shaky. You ate slowly, but you managed to finish almost the entire bowl.
Leo looked pleased and handed you your meds to swallow. Mikey poked his head in through the door to check on you as well.
”How’s angelcakes feeling?”
You paused a long moment as you sipped at a glass of water.
“Better.” You croaked. You still felt absolutely dreadful, but, “the soup helped. Thank you Mikey.”
The orange ninja beamed. Raph also peaked in over his little brother’s shoulder.
Leo looked back to you and took the bowl and spoon from your lap. He checked your IV pack and saw that most of it was gone. Your eyes looked heavy again as your body begged for more rest.
”I think it’s time you got some more sleep.” Leo mothered you. He tried to lift the edge of the blanket to cover you as you lay down but your hand stopped him.
Your red rimmed eyes were distant, and you cleared your throat as you found your words. “….Can I go to Donnie’s room? Please?”
Leo couldn’t help but smile at the innocent request. “Sure thing. Come on-“ You sat back up and Leo removed your IV. He motioned for you to adjust yourself, and Leo wrapped you up like a burrito in the blanket before scooping you up and carried you out of the med bay.
Mikey chuckled and rushed over to open Donnie’s door for you and his brother.
”Special delivery!!” He called into the darkness of Donnie’s room. A groan echoed out as the exhausted purple turtle was woken up. Leo carried you in and Donnie scooted over to make room for you to be deposited on his bed.
”Thanks Leo… hey babe…” Donnie greeted you sleepily, sitting up in bed as he received you and untangled you from the blanket.
Leo quietly walked out of the room to give you two privacy, and shoved Mikey’s face out of the way so he could close the heavy metal door behind him.
You stifled a cough, and reached out for Donnie in the darkness. The purple turtle dipped down into your embrace, and smooched your flushed red cheek. His arms slid up your back, and he pulled you flush against him in a warm embrace. He patted around for the edge of the blanket, before pulling it up and covering the both of you. He sighed deeply as he relaxed again against the pillows with you wrapped up in his arms.
”Thanks for helping me….. but please don’t ever do that again.” He mumbled against the crown of your head.
”Do what?” You asked, already half asleep.
”Collapse.”
You hummed a little laugh and snuggled in impossibly closer.
”I’ll do my best…”
Donnie pressed another quick kiss to your head, and you both quickly slipped back asleep.
The End :]

PREMIER: Ghost in the Shell Part 2
Read Ghost in the Shell Part 2: Chapter 1 here!
“You are unauthorized to be out of bed at this time,” the robot informed him.
“Who’re you?” Ghost asked, voice rough.
“I am Shelldon,” it answered. “Your automated smart lair.”
“Directive,” Ghost muttered.
“I clean, cook, give massages, provide musical–”
“Okay.” Ghost held up a hand to stop him. “Where’s Donnie?”
“You are unauthorized to be out of bed at this time,” Shelldon repeated.
“I need coffee,” Ghost grunted, and kept walking towards the kitchen.
“Toffee blend from Petrichor Cafe with one cream and one sugar.”
The offered steaming mug blocked Ghost’s path. Hesitantly, he took it, watching Shelldon carefully. “Thanks,” Ghost said. “Where’s Donnie now?”
“You are unauthorized–”
“To be out of bed, yeah, yeah. Where’s Donnie?”

Raphael's First Love—A Talk With Splinter
part of the First Love Talk miniseries!
sfw 💫 word count: 1.2k
The old metronome in the corner of the dojo ticked on incessantly as Raphael sat in indignant silence with Master Splinter. After four outbursts, a fight with Leonardo, and days of distance, Splinter had put his foot down and called his son in for a talk about his behavior. Beneath his stern exterior, Splinter was concerned.
"Raphael, explain yourself," Splinter demanded with a calm voice, treading a thin line with his angriest son's temper. Not out of fear—Splinter could and would easily put the giant back in his place even as an old rat. That was no issue. "What has gotten into you?"
Weeks of this crap, that's what, thought Raph bitterly. Weeks of feeling sick to his stomach every time she was around, trying to put up a good front and getting embarrassed by himself or his brothers; he felt stupid. Weak. Utterly at her mercy, and she didn't even know. Good. I don't want her to. Splinter gave him a skeptical eye. He shifted his position multiple times, uncomfortable and trying to look casual. Grunted dismissively. But he knew his father was not going to take that for an answer. He let out a scoff, dodging eye contact, "Things gettin' under my shell like usual."
"But not like usual, because you are worse-off than usual," observed Splinter.
His mental health was actively declining the more he deliberated on the pang in his heart he felt when he thought about her. It made his guts twist to think about why he was so angry, why he was even afraid of her, deep down. The last thing he ever wanted to admit to himself, let alone Splinter, was that he cared what she thought. A lot.
Too much.
All of his brothers seemed so confident, and yet he was self-conscious. Why? Why do I gotta be like this?!
Raph shrugged. "You know me, master. Comes with the whole package, whether all of you like it or not." He was already moody, prone to rapidly-changing emotions. That was never a guess, it was a given. "Look, I'll do us a favor and just end this convo now—I ain't in a bad way. And Leo needs to stay in his lane comin' to you over a little fight." He started to get up, leave the terrible silence of the training room and that god awful ticking metronome. Splinter jabbed his cane into his plastron, knocking him back, and then brought it down hard on his foot. Raph yelped and stumbled down, quickly reassuring his seated position.
"Enough!" Splinter barked. "Sit, Raphael."
Splinter had his full attention, now. The top of his foot ached dully.
Raph was seething on the inside. On the outside, he slumped over his knee, hiding his face behind his thick forearm.
This was all her fault. If she hadn't fallen—literally crashed—into their lives, he would be fine. There would be no question about what to do or what he was feeling. It was always them and the shadows—no people, no complications. He always knew that would never be accepted despite craving it with every ounce of his being. Why change that? Why suddenly bring more emotions into the mix? Before her, it was all straightforward. Now, he worried if he was too brutish, too much of a freak, if his normal habits weren't so "normal". He didn't want to feel like he was under one of Donnie's microscopes, with her eye looking through the lens.
Splinter furrowed his gray brow at him, resting his hands on his cane. "This is about your self esteem, is it not?" he questioned carefully. Prying.
"You couldn't know anything about it!" Raph shouted back. He swung his hand as he spoke. "I'm a six-foot turtle, there's no changing it! No changing me!"
Sighing a light breath, Splinter closed his eyes. This was going to be the challenge for the day. No day was without its challenges. He recentered his thoughts, looking for a different angle. He wanted to speak his son's language.
"Correct, there is no changing you."
Raph stuttered on his response as his face fell almost imperceptibly, but Splinter knew every minute expression of his kids.
If she knows, I'm done for. Raphael's mind was swirling and his thoughts were reaching dead-ends left and right. There was no changing. No hope? He couldn't tell. He'd given up before he'd even tried. Because like his weapon, he was defensive, and did everything possible to protect what? Himself. His big, soft heart in there that needed some serious attention. The thought of telling her made him want to hurl. But like a moth to a flame, he kept coming right back to her, torturing himself with "what-if's" and doubts he had all the while.
"What do you want me to say, Splinter?" Raph spat with a low voice.
"I want you to be honest with yourself," Splinter replied.
Raph poked the tip of his sai into the mat before him, digging it into the material. "Okay, I'll bite," he said, "what do you think I'm lyin' about? Huh?"
He already knew the answer to that. It was everything; he rejected the shyness he felt inexplicably when she was around. He felt dirty next to her, or if he accidentally touched her, it was an ordeal. Because he was a mutant and she was a human. Out of all of her pick of people, he never could have been at the top of her list. He doubted he even made the list as an option.
Knowing Raphael was lying then, too, Splinter simply lifted his chin at him, and waited for the real answer.
The silence was getting to be too much for him. He jammed his sai into the mat, stabbing through it. But in his face was sadness, not anger. He finally admitted, "I just want to be accepted. Even just by her." Fiddling with his sai, he averted his eyes to stare at something random next to him, adding quietly, a little bashfully: "Aaaaaand sometimes I think Leo has a…better shot than me. That's why we were fightin'. I went nuts because he was gettin' along with her and it made me feel some stuff I don't want to feel."
There it was, thought Splinter, bingo. "Well, you are certainly not the first young man to make a fool of yourself over a girl."
"Master, I don't even know what to do with myself. How am I ever gonna know what to do with her?"
"The first step would be to stop ruining my mat," Splinter said as he bonked his son's head with the end of his cane, irked that he was creating a hole in it with his sai. Raph quickly tucked his weapon away. He muttered an apology. Splinter cleared his throat before continuing. "The second step would be for you to face your fears, Raphael. Accept them, conquer them. You are as you are—what humanity thinks of you is not your concern. You know who you are. I would like to think that [y/n] does as well."
Raph shifted, uncomfortable. "Yeah, I don't think she does. I don't really…"
She was all too kind, beautiful, and smart; a deadly, terrifying combination, in his predicament. He'd been plagued with dreams of being with her night after night. Not worrying about a single thing until the moment he woke up—he was stressing every morning. His anxieties always seemed to curse him cropping up in his dreams; not even in sleep could he escape her sphere of influence.
Placing a gentle hand on Raphael's shoulder, Splinter looked down at him, "Then, you show her who you really are. Raphael."

- eyes would widen a fraction, and if you weren't paying attention you probably wouldn't notice.
- at the feeling of your hands on his belt, he would raise an eye ridge.
- his jaw would clench, and again, if you weren't watching him closely you wouldn't notice.
- hands would slide to your waist. grip would tighten a little at the feeling of your breath fanning his face.
- his cheeks would warm at the close proximity, his gaze would study you.
- so intense it made your skin prick in delight.
- he'd pull you closer at the feeling of your lips against his own.
- and once you'd both pull away he'd send you the most breathtaking smile. the type that literally takes your breath away and make your heart clench.
- leo would lean closer to you, so close you could feel his breath against your ear. "that was a very bold move, y/n.." he would murmur, his voice low, husky, and laced in a teasing tone.
- his voice alone would bring you pleasure, giving you goosebumps and causing a shiver to snake up your spine.
- your cheeks would dust in a soft rosey glow, but you'd force a smirk on your delicate lips.
- "exactly why i did it, leonardo." you'd all but purr. grabbing his bandana tails and twirling them around a finger with a coy smile that had his heart stuttering and thoughts to falter for a moment.
- leo loved hearing you say his name like that.
- he'd bite his lip subcontiously and study you with those intense blue eyes of his.
- "and what spurred on this bold move?"
- leaning closer to him, brushing your lips against his once more-
- "i was hoping you'd pull an even bolder one~"
- if you were in a secluded area, and especially if no one was around, he'd take you right then and there.
- if you were more in public, he'd find the most hidden place he could and mark every inch of you as his. ;)
- either way you're covered with love bites.
- leo wants you all to himself, and he'd be deliberate with his markings. putting them in places where they wouldn't be seen by the naked eye normally. that way, you two are the only ones aware of their existence.
- and when you guys were with company again, he'd brush his hand over the spots, despite not being able to see them, he'd know exactly where they were. he would apply a bit of pressure, to make it known to you, and only you, that he was very aware of this,
- leo likes to watch you squirm.
- and he makes you squirm as often as he can.

How do you think the 2003 tmnt boys would deal with a really smart s/o who is not very good at picking up on hints and always needs the direct approach socially and they’re always upfront themselves too cuz they don’t even know how to do hints? donnie is speaking in pig latin, hinting at something and s/o is like “… what?…” They understand his science nerd talk, but him socially hinting at something discreetly goes over s/o’s head completely or back before they were a couple “What? You like me? I thought you was just being nice… I’m so glad though. I like you too”?
Sorry if this wasn't exactly what you asked for😓 I started writing and the characters just wrote themselves.

warnings: none
fluff
Leo:
Let's be honest, all the turtles are just really bad at flirting.
I mean, they've lived in the sewer their whole lives and the first girl they ever met was April.
Leo doesn't really know much about love but he is determined to romance you.
He'll start watching a bunch of movies with Mikey.
Mikey will be a little less than pleased that they all have to be romance or have romance in them but who is he to judge his brothers movie taste?
He's just happy to spend more time with Leo where he isn't being the leader.
Back to Leo though, dude tries everything to seduce you.
He gets you flowers, makes you food, takes you out, heck he even learns to dance for you.
And somehow. You don't get it.
Leos not even trying to hide it at this point.
You don't even pick up on his feelings when his brothers tease him for it IN FRONT OF YOU.
You're so dense.
April tries to help you connect the dots but your brain ain't braining apparently.
She ends up telling Leo that your not gonna get it unless he tells you straight up.
Leo isn't to thrilled about that.
He's not used to this romance thing and now he has to put himself in such a position of emotional vulnerability?
It's not that he thinks you'll be mean to him, but not knowing wether you feel the same way offers too many unknowns for him to be comfortable.
Eventually though, after a bit of back and forth with himself he'll tell you.
A moment ago you were playing games with Mikey and Donny while enjoying some pizza. Now your following Leo out of the lair and far away from the pizza you wanted to finish. You just know Mikey is gonna eat it. You try and keep your focus on the pizza you left in the lair to distract yourself from Leo. Him and his gentle touches as he tries to help you onto a building rooftop. To distract from the fact of just how alone you two were. From the butterflies that erupted in your stomach when he turned to look at you.
The sky was dark but the city lit your faces. The lights of buildings and cars glittering from far away. The wind brushed past you both as you kinda just stood there. Leo had said he wanted to talk to you yet he hasn't done a lick of talking after taking you out here.
"Leo?" You voiced. It was a bit difficult to speak since the silence seems to palpable. He blinked and adjusted like you had caught him off guard. Which you kinda did. He had made up his mind to tell you how he felt but in his spontaneous decision making he didn't actually think of how. So he had spent the time staring into space spiralling about how to say it.
"Y/n I-" he began, "I wanted to tell you..... Um."
You were starting to get really worried now. Leo never stuttered, he never acted like this.
"Is something wrong Leo?" Your voice laced with concern.
"Wha-? No! I mean... everything's fine! I promise.."
You reached out and rested your hand on his shoulder.
"Take your time," you looked him in the eye, "if nothing's wrong then there's no need to rush." You smiled at him encouragingly.
Leo sighed and tried to clear his mind. You were right, there is nothing wrong. As your hand slipped off his shoulder he looked you in the eye.
The gentle breeze brushed past you both. Your eyes met his and he felt completely entranced by you. The lights of the city highlighting your silhouette making you glow. He felt hot in the face and he couldn't help but take a shallow breath before speaking.
"Y/n, I think I'm in love with you."
Raph:
Raph is probably the least in tune with his feelings out of all his brothers.
It's not that he dislikes being vulnerable, he has been vulnerable multiple times with the people he cares about.
But that's just the thing, he cares about them and he knows they care about him. He's safe.
He doesn't feel particularly unsafe being vulnerable with you.
Honestly you safe presence when he's being vulnerable is probably one of the reasons he fell for you in the first place.
It's just that he hates feeling lesser than.
He has virtually no experience with these types of feelings and interactions.
So the idea of telling you makes him feel like he's being put in a situation where he is seen as naive and inexperienced.
And out of everyone in the world, your the last person he'd want to see him that way.
So he'll do literally ANYTHING to get you to figure it out other then the direct approach.
Even takes advise from Mikey of all people.
From genuinely loving and welcome surprises to stupidly humiliating himself Raph has thrown every subtle and not so subtle hint at you.
Yet no matter what he does you just aren't getting it.
Mikey has been "helping him" with some not so great ideas so when he suggests the direct approach Raph though ABSOLUTELY NOT.
It would take a lot of time and everyone, even Splinter, telling him to be direct before he even considers it.
When he finally decides to go through with it? He is not happy. Not at all.
But at this point what other choice does he have?
You, Raph, and Casey had been out "patrolling" the city. "Patrolling" being the excuse for motorcycle racing around the city whilst ignoring traffic laws. Why where you invited? Simple. There are only two motorcycles. Casey's and Raphs.
You were clutching onto Raph for dear life as he raced around the New York city streets. Normally Raph would be doing all kinds of stunts jumping over or sliding under different obstacles as a way to gloat to Casey. But he didn't want to jerk you around too much. Especially with the death grip your keeping on his shell.
Also because this wasn't really a race. He asked Casey to pretend this was a race so he could drive you somewhere. That all Casey knew, no matter how many times he asked why Raph never said. So while Raph took his turns around the city Casey made is way back to the lair making it seem to you that Raph had beat him in the race.
As Raph slowed the bike you noticed you were at the park. It was dark out so lamps illuminated the path. There were some people walking around but not many, if Raph was careful and stuck to the shadows he should be fine. The park was almost peaceful if it weren't for the constant and eternal bustling of the city.
"Is this the finish line?" You asked, still convinced there was a race.
"Uhhhh, yeah. But we left Casey pretty far back there so... We might as well walk around," Raph eyed you unsure, "I mean it beats sitting here waiting for that slow poke to catch up."
"Sure sounds like fun."
And with that you both set off on a short walk through the park. Not wanting to be seen by any unsuspecting passerby you both stuck to walking behind the trees and bushes lining the path.
You both talked about nothing in particular. You just spent time enjoying eachothers company and it did Raph some good to calm his nerves. He had tried everything under the sun to tell you how he feels and you still don't seem to get it. Well everything but actually telling you. He didn't want to, but he was going to. Tonight.
As you both turned a corner lined by shrubbery you noticed how trees completely secluded the area ahead of you. No one could could see in or out unless the took the path you and Raph did. As you both decide to take a seat on the grass and just enjoy the night Raph felt his nerves come back to tie up his guts.
You both sat for a while, not speaking. I comfortable for you. A heavy one for Raph. Eventually it got to the point where if he didn't say something now, the perfect time, he knew he never would.
So without looking at you, or any warning, he won't for it.
"I love you."
Donny:
Donny LOVES subtlety.
Science is all about those subtle differences that can alter an entire study.
And BOY was he good at subtlety.
He would use relations between different parts of his project to hint at his feelings for you.
He would do that thing where the person would come up behind you and put their hands over yours to help direct you.
Stuff like that.
Did it make you blush? Yes.
Did it get his feelings across to you?
Ha ha
No.
He literally doesn't know what he's doing wrong.
After a while BB is so close to believing that you just don't feel the same until Splinter suggests being direct with you.
He would just stare at Master Splinter in the most 'I didn't about that's type of way.
He just didn't think that was something that people did ya know?
He never considered it cuz he just never did.
He's not embarrassed about his feelings, though he may be a little flustered.
He feels so dumb after the suggestion was made.
Bro was like, how did I never think of that.
Now that he knows though, he is going straight to you.
You were playing cards with Splinter and Raph when Donny approached you.
"Y/n!" He said with a smile on his face.
"Hey D! What's up?"
"Actually, now that you ask," he rubbed the back of his neck "I was wondering if I could speak with you in private for a moment?"
"Oh uhhhh, sure, just. Let me find someone to give my hand to."
"Splinter grabbed your cards from your hand, Michelangelo!"
"Yeeeeeess?" Mikey looked over the back of the couch to where you were playing.
"Come here, you are playing in place of y/n" he said waving Mikey over.
You cringed, you were doing so well! You may not have beat Splinter but you were beating Raph!
"Oh oh, I like where this game is headin'," Raph grinned.
You groaned, Mikey was totally going to ruin whatever victory you had in mind.
Regardless, after everything with the game was settled you followed Donny out of the lair and into the turtle van parked in the garage. Donny was fidgeting with his fingers the whole way there. It set a sort of awkward tone for the silence. You were also slightly concerned too, it wasn't like Donny to be nervous and fidgety. Awkward, sure. Nervous? No.
When you took your seat in the van Donny sat himself right across from you, though he didn't look you in the eye.
"So what's up Donny? Is something wrong?"
"Oh no! Not wrong perse," he finally looked at you, "Just trying to figure out how exactly I want to word this."
You were getting more nervous by the second. What was he going to tell you. He always had the right words to articulate what he's thinking. Why now is it difficult? You started picking at your fingers waiting for him to speak again.
"Okay, I think I've got it!" He said turning to look you fully in the eye now.
"Y/n, you have always been one of my closest friends. I enjoy our conversations and having you around makes me smile,"
This could being in their a really good direction or a really bad one but all you knew is that you were really confused.
"However recently my feelings have developed into something a bit... more," he paused. His chest tightened and his stomach felt hollow.
"I don't want to hide my feelings or pretend like they're not there. I understand if you can't return my feelings but I figure it's only fair that you know that I.." he reached out and put your hand in his, "I'm in love with you."
Mikey:
Out of all of them I feel like Mikey is the most likely to be direct.
If he's not it is solely because he's embarrassed.
Dude will blush and giggle at you like a flustered school girl.
It honestly looks so stupid but in a strangely endearing way.
When Mikey tries to be subtle with his feelings about you it doesn't work.
To an outside viewer it doesn't look like he's trying at all.
He is though.
He really is🥲
So it's safe to say that when the revelation is made that you didn't know, everyone was kinda shocked.
(Raph might have called you dumb)
They probably confronted you about Mikeys feelings, after assuming that you already knew and didn't reciprocate, hence your lack of action.
They'd be all, 'look your our friend but if you don't like Mikey you need to tell him so he can get over you'
And you'll just sit there like, 'but I do like Mikey, what do you mean????'
Once you figure out that they mean ROMANTIC feelings Mikey will be horrified that they told you.
"You have a crush on me?" You asked Mikey curiously.
"Wha- WHA- WHAT?!!"
You were sitting on the couch while Mikeys brothers surrounded you. They were trying to tell you something about letting Mikey down easy. It took a while for you to understand what they were saying but when you finally did you were shocked. You had no idea. So when Mikey came from the kitchen with his normal carefree attitude, asking him was all you could think to say.
"WHO TOLD YOU THAT!" Mikey panicked and looked at his brothers with a mix of betrayal and embarrassment, "DUDES??!"
"Eheh. Sorry Mikey, we thought they already knew," Donny shrugged. He felt bad for outing his brother but what's done is done.
"If we had known they were more dense then you we wouldn't have said anything," Raph told him slightly peeved.
"HEY!" you frowned at Raph.
"YOU TOLD THEM!!" Mikey was in full jittery panic at this point.
"We thought they already knew considering how... obvious, you've been. We thought they were leading you on," Leo explained, "We didn't mean to tell them Mikey." Leo looked apologetic.
"I think we should leave you two to talk about this," Leo told the others and led them somewhere else in the lair.
You and Mikey didn't move. He stood there starring at the floor while you were starring at him.
"So was what they were saying right? Do you have... feelings for me?"
"I... umm... yeah," Mikey told you, completely red in the face.
"Well that's good," you giggled.
"huh?"
"I do too."

Liar, Liar
Note: The characters in this fic are from @rufwooff 's teenage mutant ninja everything-but-turtles au. Leo is a salamander, Mikey is a toad/frog, Donnie is a gecko, and Raph is an alligator. It can sort of be read as a rise fic if you ignore the... frog stuff? But there are things that might not make sense without knowledge of the au. This post specifically inspired the fic.
Tags: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, ROTTMNT, Leo-centric, NOT MY CHARACTERS, Teenage Mutant Ninja Everything-but-Turtles, tmnebt, turtle tots (still unsure abt that one), dialogue written like a child, lying, extremely fluffy, but with a hint of angst
Warnings (if there's anything I should add here, tell me please!): nothing, why would i ever hurt kids :)
Words: 4,647
Summary: Leo finally gets to spend a day alone with his little brother, Mikey. When things go wrong, he decides to save himself. After all, what's so bad about a little lie?
----------------------
“Can grow to doo-ble the size in a few… h-owers…”
Leo held the small package he'd found close to his face, trying his best to read what the label said. Donnie had told him it was some kind of toy, but it just looked like a plastic whale to him. Mikey watched Leo from the bowl he was quickly outgrowing, listening intently to Leo's somewhat successful attempt at reading.
“Leave in a cup or bowl of wwwater and watch the magic!” Leo read triumphantly, holding the toy in front of him. The salamander looked over to his little brother. “We just need a cup or something to use it!”
“Wah'der!” Mikey noted wisely, bracing himself on the edge of the glass.
“Right!” Leo nodded, face turning pensive. “But I can't reach any of the cups or bowls in the kitchen, and Dad doesn't want me climbing on stuff anymore…”
“Waphie?” Mikey suggested.
“Raph's busy with Dad cooking dinner. Bo-ring.” Leo sighed. “And Donnie said he was studying today…”
“Hmm…” Mikey hummed, before his eyes lit up. “Bow’!” He squeaked, rocking his bowl side to side. “Bow’! A bow’!”
“No Mikey, we need a-” Leo caught on. “Oh, a bowl. You're a genius, Mikey!”
Mikey squeaked and squealed in response to the praise, wiggling what was left of his tail in the water. “Tank you.”
“Alright then, Mikester. You're gonna have to show off how good you are with those new legs.” Leo wrapped his arms around his baby brother's body, struggling for a moment to get a good grip with both of them having slippery skin, but he eventually hefted Mikey out of the bowl under his armpits and placed him on the stone floor. “This'll be a good oppa-tunity for you! You just gotta stay here while I fill up the bowl the rest of the way, okay?”
“Okie-dokie!” Mikey replied cheerfully, patting his newly grown hands on the floor. They had been fully developed for about a week, but he had yet to do much with them other than waving and clapping.
Taking Mikey's word without any doubt, Leo picked up the half filled bowl and carried it away to the nearby tunnel. Sure, he knew he wasn't supposed to go into the tunnels by himself. And sure, he knew he wasn't supposed to leave Mikey alone when they were playing. But Leo was a big boy! And so was Mikey! Mikey had all of his limbs now! That, Leo didn't exactly understand, because Leo always had all his limbs, just like Raph and Donnie. Mikey was just a ball with a tail and eyeballs. A tadpole, Donnie's voice reminded him. Now Mikey was a toadlet, which meant surely he was grown enough to be on his own for a few minutes.
It wasn't like Leo didn't like spending time with Mikey. He loved watching movies with him, coloring things with him, even chatting with him despite his more limited vocabulary. Mikey just… couldn't play a lot of the games Leo liked to play. Leo liked to move, and Mikey couldn't move a lot. Mikey couldn't play tag, or hide and seek, and he could only play Jupiter Jim if he was playing as Godfred, the Goldfish King. Even then, he was no fun to play with without his royal guards.
Today, Leo got to play with Mikey without supervision, a job usually reserved for his older brothers. It was a total breeze, he had found out, because Mikey was so stationary. Babies were boring, but they were easy.
Leo carried the bowl back, making sure to spill as little of the mildly murky sewer water he had collected as possible, and put it down right next to the toy he had left on the floor. Right next to the puddle where Mikey was sitting before.
Puddle?
“Boys! Come eat!”
“...spit.”
----------------------
Leo walked into the kitchen with a nervous smile on his face, finding that Raph and Donnie were already seated with food in front of them. Both plates were filled with vegetables and meat, and Splinter was preparing two more plates with more of the same.
“Hello, Blue,” Splinter greeted, glancing around Leo's sides. “Where is your brother? I thought he was with you.”
“H-he was! He just got reeeally tired,” Leo lied, swaying on his feet and swishing his tail slowly. “So I tucked him in bed. He was really, indubitably tired.”
“You don't even know what that word means, Leo.” Donnie glared right into Leo's soul, pushing his glasses up as Leo sat down next to him.
“Yes I do! I-it means Mikey was really super tired!”
“Purple, do not be rude to your brother,” Splinter scolded. “If Orange was tired, he should sleep. He is a growing boy. Thank you, Blue, for tucking him in. He can eat later, after he wakes up.” Splinter finished preparing a plate for himself, then sat down next to his sons and began eating. “Did you all enjoy yourselves today?”
Raphael nodded. “I showed Cheech how to beat up the practice dummy right! He wasn't too good at holdin’ Raph's sais though.”
“That is very kind of you, Red. I'm sure that Cheech will improve if you keep training him.” Splinter smiled kindly.
“He won't,” Donnie whispered, leaning into Leo's ear. “Teddy bears can't do ninjutsu.”
“I think Raph can teach him, Raph's good at teaching,” Leo whispered back.
“What about you, Purple?”
Donnie straightened his posture, his tail sticking straight up for a moment, straightening his glasses again. “I actually did some very helpful research using the encyclopedia that Dad found and the book on reptiles we got a while ago.” He looked around at his brothers. “I learned a lot about our different species. I looked pretty closely into toads and frogs so I could talk to Mikey about his current state, but apparently I can't, because he fell asleep at 6 pm.” Donnie side eyed Leo questioningly.
“You can tell him about what you learned tomorrow, Purple,” Splinter said. “I'm sure whatever he and Blue did today was exhausting, was it not?” He asked, redirecting the conversation to Leo.
“Oh yeah, for sure,” Leo agreed fervently. “Me and Mike were having so much fun. Like, Mikey was having sooo much fun, he literally passed out! And I put him in bed, like a good big brother!”
“He… passed out?” Raph asked worriedly.
“Yeah! Like, knocked out hard. Totally asleep. And I tucked him in good!”
“In his tub.” Donnie raised a drawn eyebrow.
“That's right!”
“Boys, there is no need to argue about this,” Splinter said with a strained smile as the brothers finished eating and put their plates away in the sink. “We should all be happy for Blue, who has proven himself as a big brother.”
“He's sure proving something, alright…” Donnie murmured with crossed arms.
“You can spend a little more time up, but I want you to get to bed soon as well. Meanwhile, I will be taking this opportunity to take a nice, long shower.” Splinter shook his robed arms, showcasing the small clumps of fur gathering across his body. “This stuff gets oily way faster than you would expect.”
“Don't worry Pops!” Raph said, standing absurdly tall for a child of his age and swishing his unruly tail. “I'll check on Mike, then I'll make sure Leo and Don get to sleep too! You have my word!” Raph tried to hold up a military salute, but he caught his hand on his large jaws and hit his head backwards, tail and arms flailing to make sure he didn't fall. He looked distraught for a moment, before making a show of shaking off the pain to be strong for his dad.
Splinter sighed. “Thank you, Red.”
Leo straightened up, eyes widening as he saw his brothers going toward their room, and dashed over to the sink to drop off his own plate so he could follow. Quickly, would be preferable.
“Blue? May I speak with you?”
Spit.
Leo stood with the most relaxed posture he could muster as he faced his dad, leaning on the countertop behind him with one elbow. “Sure, Pops!”
Splinter kneeled down in front of the salamander. “I wanted to thank you for spending the day with your little brother. I know that he is still unable to do many of the things that you can, but it is good to hear that you included him in your games anyways.”
“Oh,” Leo said, losing his fake nonchalance for a moment. “It… it was no big deal, Dad.”
“I would say it was a big deal, Leonardo.” Splinter placed a paw on Leo's shoulder, smiling softly at his son. “Once Orange hits the growth spurt he is bound to, it will be much more difficult to keep you boys from bouncing off the walls. I am glad to know I can trust you to take care of your little brother.”
Leo's heart dropped in his chest with guilt, but he kept his outward appearance well enough. Internally, he was screaming to run away and stop his brothers from reaching the bedroom. “Of course, Dad. Mikey was actually really really super fun to hang with! Not boring at all! He actually was playing way more than me, and like, he was really cool and stuff. And fun to play with,” he added carefully.
Splinter stood up, cracking his back. “That is great to hear. Now-” he clapped his hands- “to wash the gunk out of this gross fur!”
As soon as Splinter skipped away, Leo fumbled over his feet to rush to the bedroom. He kicked his tail a few times, but ignored it in his frenzy. His brothers were already there! It was over! He would never be trusted again! Not by Raph, not by Donnie (though who really cared about that), and most importantly, not by his dad!
When Leo got to the shared bedroom, he slid on the floor to turn in the doorway as fast as possible, only to find Raph terrifyingly close to Mikey's tank.
“WAIT!”
Both of his brothers looked up at him immediately. Donnie's glare from where he sat on his bed quickly changed from confused to exhausted. “And why, dear Nardo, would Raph need to wait?”
Leo hesitated. “Well, b-because-”
“No, Leo. You've been super suspicious ever since you came to dinner.” Donnie stood up, putting the book he had in his hands down.
“No I haven't!” Leo defended. “I don't even know what that means, so I can't be that.”
“It means you've been acting weird because you're hiding something!” Donnie accused.
“Am not!” Leo defended.
“Yes, you a-”
“Guys!” Raph whispered furiously, catching the other boys’ attention. “If you're gonna fight, do it quiet. Mikey's still asleep.” The oldest brother turned away, not being able to see the despaired expression on Leo's face, and approached Mikey's corner of the room where his small tank sat.
Donnie looked back at Leo with disdain. “Whatever you're hiding, you should just cough it up. Dad doesn't like liars.”
“Well that's great, cause I'm not lying. I'm like, the least liar-est person ever.”
“Uh, Donnie?” Raph asked quietly from his spot by the tank. “Didn't you say Mikey was supposed to mecha-morph-uh.. whatever?”
“Metamorphosis. It's the process through which a tadpole becomes a frog or toad. Commonly associated with frogs and butterflies, which come from caterpillars. And technically, the word would be ‘metamorphose’, in this context.”
“I think he meta-morph-osed into a whale instead…”
Leo held his breath.
“What?” Donnie walked over to the tank, continuing to ramble. “No, he's supposed to metamorphose into a fire bellied toad, not a whale. There's no way that- GASP!” Donnie plunged his hand in the tank, coming back out with an unmistakable item. “You left his bowl in the tank?!”
“What?! I-I don't know how that got there, I swear!” Leo stammered, grabbing the hem of his shirt.
“You said you put Mikey to bed! Mikey isn't here, but his bowl is!” Donnie shouted. “You lied! You lost Mikey!”
“N-no I didn't!”
“Oh yeah? Then how did his bowl get here?”
Leo puffed his cheeks, fuming. “It wasn't even my fault! Mikey said I could use his bowl!”
Raph gasped this time, like a normal person. “You really lost Mikey?”
Leo's anger faltered at the sad face on his big brother. The reality of the situation was finally settling in. “I-I didn't mean to. I just went in the tunnel for one second-”
“You went in the tunnels?!” Raph screamed.
Leo winced. “It was just for like a second, and nothing even happened!”
“Clearly, something did happen,” Donnie interjected, putting the bowl down. “You. Lost. Mikey!”
“I did not! Mikey said-”
“GUYS!” Raph slammed his tail on the ground, scaring his brothers into attention. “Right now, Raph's gonna ignore all the rules you broke. We don't need to fight about who to blame, because Mikey is missing. He could be in danger, or worse, already hurt. We need to find him before Dad finds out.” Raph stepped closer to Leo. “Now, where did you lose Mikey?”
“I didn't lose hi-”
“Mikey was under your supervision. Now he's gone. You lost Mikey,” Donnie said sternly. “Where did you lose him?”
Leo stared down at his feet, then sighed heavily. “It was right by the tunnel entrance, by the toy room. When I came-d back in, there was just a puddle where he was sitting before.”
“A puddle?” Donnie asked.
“Yeah, that's what I just said,” Leo groaned.
“No, that could be a clue. Show us where the puddle was,” Raph urged.
“Uh, okay.” Leo turned around and walked down the hall with his brothers in tow. He couldn't help but feel their eyes glaring into his back, judging him. Hating him for lying. For putting his baby brother in danger.
Maybe he wasn't a good big brother like Dad had said. Mikey was the only little brother he had. How did he screw that up?
They reached the end of the hall, and Leo was surprised to see a little bit of dampness still on the floor, even after almost an hour. “He was right here,” he said, crouching down to look.
“Hm,” Donnie hummed, crouching down as well. “Just as I thought.” He put a finger in the spot on the ground, surprising his brothers when his hand came up with something slimy. “Mikey didn't just leave the water from his bowl, he also left mucous.”
“Mucous? Like, he snotted everywhere?” Raph questioned.
“No, it's not snot. It's mucous. Many frogs and toads produce mucous with glands on their skin that helps keep it moist. In some, it also helps them breathe through their skin,” Donnie explained.
“So, Mikey left his skin snot on the floor,” Leo gathered.
“No. It's mucous, not snot.”
“Hey, look!” Raph pointed to another spot on the floor. “More snot!”
“Follow it!” Leo said, running over to the spot and searching for more.
Donnie pinched the bridge of his snout. “Again, not snot, but okay, we have a lead.”
“Why's it in spots, and not, like, little froggy footprints?” Raph asked, following as Leo spotted more spots.
“It's possible that Mikey figured out how to hop,” Donnie said.
“Ha! So this was worth it!” Leo said, pumping a fist. “I taught Mikey how to hop!”
“Or, you taught him how to hop off a cliff and die. Or hop right into a human's home,” Donnie replied.
“Donnie…” Raph whispered.
Leo didn't respond, instead choosing to keep following the spots. There were a few he saw on the walls, which he noted curiously. They traveled all throughout the lair, slowly becoming more recent. Eventually, the brothers found a place where they entered a door.
The bathroom door, where soft singing could be heard on the other side.
“Aw, spit.”
Raph elbowed Leo's shoulder. “Dad said you shouldn't say that anymore.”
“Why? It's not a bad word. I can say it all I want! Spit, spit, spit-”
“Guys,” Donnie said, “let's worry more about the mucous going into the room where Dad is showering.”
“Oh, right.”
The trio opened the door slowly, getting facefuls of steam that fogged up Donnie's glasses, causing him to back out. Leo and Raph stuck their heads in, surveying the area. Splinter's operatic singing filled their ears, making them wince. However, in the midst of the steam filled bathroom, they spotted what they were looking for.
Mikey was perched on the edge of the sink, looking at the closed shower curtain with wide eyes.
“Mikey!” Leo whispered, getting Mikey's attention and drawing his eyes. “Hey Angelo! Come here, come to Leo!” He held his hands out, beckoning.
Mikey squeaked softly, waving at Leo, then pointing at the shower.
“Nonono, don't go there buddy, hop over here!”
Mikey grinned, then readied himself to jump straight at the curtain.
“MIKEY!”
The clattering of metal and screams of the boys cut off Splinter's singing, as Mikey hopped right onto the curtain and pulled the curtain rod down. Raph pushed past Leo into the room, catching Mikey before he fell to the floor with the curtain.
Splinter, despite being covered with soaked fur, tried to cover himself and turned the shower off. “Boys!? What is the meaning of this?!”
Raph fumbled to keep Mikey in his arms. “Sorry, Pops! Mikey was just-”
Mikey turned around in Raph's arms, reaching out to Splinter. “Hi Daddy!”
“Orange? What are you doing awake?”
“He, uh, he woke up!” Leo said, pushing in front of Raph. “We had to follow him here.”
“Follow him?” Splinter raised an eyebrow.
Raph looked at Leo, unsure.
“Yes?” Leo said nervously.
They all stood still, Leo patting his toe on the floor. He couldn't tell if he was sweating of fear, or if it was just the steam in the room. The tension felt as thick as the steam filled air.
“LEO LOST MIKEY!”
“What?!”
“DONNIE, YOU SNITCH! I DID NOT!”
“YES YOU DID! AND YOU LIED! LEO LIED!” Donnie screamed from outside the room.
“Donnie! Stop being mean to Leo!” Raph said, struggling to keep a hold on the boy in his arms. Mikey wriggled around, bracing his feet on Raph's chest and hopping off, sending himself flying into Splinter's arms while also hitting Raph's jaws shut with a clack and nearly sending Raph falling backwards.
“Orange!” Splinter caught Mikey deftly, checking him over. Then, he looked back up to his other sons. More specifically, at the one who had just been basically slapped by his own jaw. “Red, are you okay?”
Raph grunted, but nodded slowly as he held his snout.
“Good. That was very rude of you, Orange,” he said to the son in his arms. “What do you say?”
“I'm sowwy, Waphie…” Mikey mumbled with innocent eyes. Raph gave a weak thumbs up in response.
“Good job. I'm very proud of you for learning how to jump.” Splinter looked at Leo, who physically shrank.
“I-I swear, I didn't meanta lose him. We were just playing, a-and he said-”
“He can tell me what he said.”
Leo felt tears trying to force their way out behind his eyes.
Splinter sighed, dropping his shoulders. “Red,” he addressed, “make sure your brothers get to bed. With no screens,” he said, shooting a glare at the door.
“I would never!” Donnie scoffed from outside.
“I will come to tuck you in as soon as I am done with my shower. I have a feeling that Orange won't let me go without giving him a good bath, too,” he added, causing Mikey to squeak and laugh in his hold.
“No problem, Pops,” Raph said, walking toward the door.
Leo blinked, confused. Where was his scolding? Where was his slap on the wrist? This couldn't possibly be that bad, right? “B-but I-”
“Go to bed, Leonardo.”
Leo shut up fast, swallowing all of his tears and excuses. He followed Raph glumly out of the bathroom, closing the door behind him. Raph was standing outside with a concerned look on his face, while Donnie wore a smirk.
“I told you Dad doesn't like liars.”
Leo walked past, trying to get to the bedroom with as little eye contact as possible. Raph reached to grab his shoulder, but he shrugged it off and walked faster. Donnie's words echoed in his head.
Dad didn't like liars. Leo was a liar. Dad was the one that took care of them.
He could kick Leo out.
He'd have to live in the tunnels. Or maybe, Dad wouldn't let him live in the tunnels. He'd have to live on the surface, with the humans. The humans who wanted to catch him. Who wanted to pull him apart to see what he was made of and then piece him back together to see what he could do. He would die without his dad. He didn't want to live without his dad. Without his brothers. Without Mikey. Because he did love Mikey, even if he lied. At least he thought so.
Maybe Dad wouldn't care now. Maybe Dad didn't love him now. Leo was a liar. Dad doesn't like liars. Why would he?
Leo flopped into his bed as soon as he reached it, pulling the covers over himself and turning in to face the wall. Raph attempted to talk to him, but Leo only curled up tighter, pulling his tail up so far he could see it in front of his face.
Eventually, Raph gave up. Leo heard him softly scolding Donnie, but tried to ignore it as silent tears fell off his cheeks.
Just when he thought he was about to fall asleep, Leo heard the bedroom door opening. He wiped his face and turned slightly, seeing Splinter walk first to Donnie's bed, then to Raph's, before finally coming toward Leo's.
He noticed Mikey sitting in the doorway, who waved when he caught Leo's eyes. Leo waved back slowly.
Splinter kneeled by Leo's bedside, just like he would any other night to tuck him in. Usually, this would bring Leo warmth and comfort, reminding him that his father loved him. This time, Leo couldn't fight the sense of dread that filled his chest, making it feel like he was breathing something heavier than air. He wasn't getting tucked in. He didn't deserve that anymore. He was a liar.
Dad doesn't like liars.
His father's eyes seemed to see right through him. “I am very upset with you, Leonardo.”
Leo tensed, but kept looking at Splinter.
“I am not upset that you lost track of your brother. You are a child, and I cannot expect you to be perfect. Do you know why I am upset?”
Leo nodded slowly, then mumbled, “Because I lied…”
“Exactly. It is because you lied. You could have told me as soon as it happened, and I would have helped you look for him. Instead, you lied and put your brother at even more risk. You could have fessed up when I saw Michelangelo in the bathroom. But yet, you still didn't. You didn't admit to your own fault. It took Donatello telling me for you to finally confess. And even then, you tried to rid yourself of all guilt.”
Leo sniffed, tearing up again. “Are you gonna kick me out?”
Splinter's eyebrows raised in shock. “What? No, I will not kick you out. Why would I ever do something so horrible?”
Something shattered.
“But… but I lied! I hurt Mikey! I-I'm a bad brother!” Leo's tears started flowing openly.
“No, no, Blue, you are okay. Shh…” Splinter rubbed his hand across Leo's face, wiping a tear away.
Leo sniffled and hiccuped, holding onto the back of Splinter's hand and softly sobbing. “I'm sorry, Dad, I-I didn't want to…”
Splinter rubbed his son's cheek, hushing him quietly. “I know. But that does not change what you did.” He looked deeply into his son's eyes, ensuring he had his full attention. “I forgive you, but this cannot go without punishment. I will not kick you out, and I never would. You are my son. Instead, you will be grounded for a month.”
Leo whined, but nodded. “Okay…”
“However, I believe that taking away the things that bring you joy will not make you learn the lesson that you need to learn. That is why, during this month, you will not be disallowed from doing anything in our home. Do you understand that?”
Leo nodded.
“The only caveat is that you must spend the entire month with your brother, Michelangelo. You will only do things that he wants to do. You will not plant ideas in his head or put words in his mouth. You will only do things that he says he wants to do. If he ever wants to spend time away from you, you will spend that time with me. Do you understand?”
“Mhm.” Leo nodded again.
“Perfect.” Splinter smiled. “I forgive you for this, and I hope that through this grounding period you can regain my trust.”
Leo smiled as well and nodded one last time, wiping one last tear with the heel of his hand. “I hope so too.”
Splinter turned to the doorway and waved Mikey over with his hand. Mikey grinned and hopped over, much quicker than Leo had expected. He stopped at Leo's bedside, slowly using the bed to brace himself as he stood up on shaky legs, then looked at his father.
“Tell Blue what you told me, Orange.”
Mikey wobbled for a second, then looked up at Leo. “I, um, I'm sowwy I went away when you said not go away. And I'm sowwy, um, I jumped at Daddy when you said not to do… And, um, I wwwanted to s'eep in a big boy bed tonight, cause imma big boy now, but I don't got a big boy bed, can I s’eep wi’ you.” Mikey finished the sentence like a statement, not a question, but his intention was clear.
Leo looked for just a second at his dad, who nodded encouragingly, before looking back at his little brother. “Sure, Mike. Hop on up here.”
Mikey did just that, with more force than Leo had expected. “Wow, Angelo, you've really got good legs now!” Leo said, catching Mikey in his arms and helping tuck him into the blankets. Meanwhile, Splinter walked to Mikey's tank and came back with his bowl and a towel.
“Alright, boys. Orange, your bowl will be right here if you need to soak, and your tank will be there if you want it.” Splinter pulled the blanket up, kissing each boy on the forehead. He cringed and wiped his lips after kissing Mikey, making the boy squeak and giggle. “Sleep well, my big boys. I am so proud of you, and I love you.”
“Love you too, Dad,” both boys chorused. Mikey snuggled into Leo's chest, letting Leo hold him like a stuffed animal. Leo only flinched for a moment at the slimy feeling of Mikey's skin (mucous, not snot).
Splinter walked out of the room, and it was barely even 20 seconds after he heard the door close that Leo heard a whisper coming from beside him.
“I'm sowwy, ‘eo,” Mikey murmured.
Leo looked down at his brother, confused. “You already said sorry. You don't gotta say it again.”
“But I said sowwy then cause Dad said,” Mikey explained. “Now, I said sowwy cause Mikey said.”
“Oh.” Leo settled back in, putting his chin on Mikey's head. “Well, I'm really sorry too. And that's cause Leo said,” he added, smirking.
Mikey giggled and squeezed Leo tightly, wiggling beneath the sheets. In a matter of minutes, the young amphibian had completely fallen asleep, slightly drooling on Leo's pillow. He didn't mind.
Leo grabbed onto Mikey and closed his eyes as well.
He never wanted to let go again.

Did I tell myself I would write au comp propaganda? Yes. Did I write a fic about an au completely unrelated to the comp? Yes, and I'm not sorry. I figured since another round finished up today, why not post something?
For real, I've had some insane art block recently, and writing has been keeping me sane. I tried writing propaganda, hated it, then realized, you know what makes me feel better every time? Turtle tots.
In this case, everything-but-turtle tots.
Shoutout to @rufwooff for making one of the most serotonin filled aus I've seen in a while, and fueling my exhaustion-induced writing spree. And go check out @tmntaucompetition! We're getting closer to the end! AAH!

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
When you awoke, you felt a heavy weight across your chest. You blinked your eyes open and looked around.
The sight that greeted you made you grin. Mikey was sprawled like a starfish across your queen sized bed, snoring away with an arm thrown over your midsection. Poor Donnie was confined to huddle up on his side on the very edge of your bed, in his attempt to be closer to you. Leonardo, when you looked, was sitting on the floor fast asleep with his shell resting against the side of the bed.
All that was left was-
“You awake, shortie?” Raphael was standing in the doorway with a towel around his shoulders. A soft expression on his face that he reserved for just the two of you.
You didn’t want to wake up the rest of his brothers so you nodded silently at him. He extended his arm out above you for you to grab onto, and he slowly pulled you up out from underneath Mikey without disturbing him, careful not to bonk anyone with your cast. You were left dangling above your bed while you clung onto Raph’s arm like you weighed nothing. Raph chuckled quietly and swung you over to a vacant spot on the floor where you stretched out and touched down gently onto the fluffy rug.
Raphael nodded in the direction of the door, a silent invitation to join him for his morning workout. You quietly grabbed some clothes from your drawers and trudged out to change in the bathroom as he went ahead of you to the gym. When you joined him a few minutes later, he was doing stretches.
“How’s the arm?” He asked you in a hushed tone. Not wanting to sound too loud in the quiet of the empty gym.
“Better!” You said gratefully stretching out your shoulders with your arms above your head. “Donnie said I should be able to get the casts off by the end of the week.”
”Wow, that was fast. I guess you heal like us now, huh.” Raph said with a grin, hiding his relief. “Wanna work on your physical therapy first?”
“Mh!” You nodded enthusiastically.
These quiet mornings working out with Raph had become the norm in the past 2 weeks since you had woken up. At first it started as an escape from the insomnia, when you woke up early and couldn’t sleep. Bad dreams and flashbacks from the tank plaguing your mind. Raph would come in and scoop you up and take you with him while he worked out. Not allowing you to be alone with your thoughts. You would lay on his back while he did pushups, and sit in his lap while he did reps. ‘For motivation’ he would say.
After a long hour and a half, and a playful but careful wrestling match that turned into a tickle fight, you collapsed limp onto Raph’s chest out of breath.
“You’re getting harder to pin down, shortie.” Raph’s chest rumbled with his chuckle.
”Is that so? I think you’re still going too easy on me.” You said with sly eyes and propped your head up on your arm cast to look down at his face.
”So what if I’m going easy on ya? You can try and kick my ass once you’re all healed up, Princess.” He met your sly grin, hands coming up to grab your sides.
You giggled and squirmed in his hold, still feeling sensitive as he moved to sit up with you sat in his lap. You reached up and looped your arms around his neck and hugged him, body flesh against his chest. The big turtle froze a moment then relaxed and wrapped his big arms around you gently. He took in a long deep breath and exhaled in a long huff against your shoulder.
After a long pause, you quipped, “At least I can still throw you on your back whenever I want~”
Raph grinned and started to lightly tickle your sides again, making you squeal and giggle as you tried to escape his hold. “Just because you’ve got mutant strength all the time now doesn’t mean you’ll always have the drop on me!” He whisper yelled as he continued to torture you.
Donnie cleared his throat from the doorway where he was casually leaning against the frame, sipping a fresh cup of coffee.
“He’s ticklish under his arms.” Donnie said loud enough for you to hear, grinning into his mug.
Raph’s eyes went wide with horror. ”Traitor!”
Your hands dove for his exposed skin, but before you could reach, Raph grabbed your sides and held you away at arm’s length like a cat. “No fair!” You laughed, calming down from the excitement.
Donnie set down his coffee cup and strolled into the room. He scooped you up and tossed you over his shoulder, rescuing Raph from your attack. The red turtle made an exaggerated sigh of relief, but he was betrayed by his playful grin.
“My turn.”
Donnie strolled out of the room with you in tow as you waved a goodbye to Raph, and retrieved his cup of coffee as he left.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
They had waited for weeks.
They were not able to prevent you from falling into a medically induced coma, but with the blood transfusion you received from Leonardo, your blood pressure had returned to safe levels. With the new medications Donnie was feeding you through your IV, it was expected you would wake up in only a few days. But there were…. complications.
It began as a small rash at the spot of the IV, rough dry skin turning into green scales. After 3 days, small hints of animalistic qualities started to morph your body in strange ways. Your fever only got worse with the changes. But along with the destabilized mutations, your body began to heal the overwhelming damage at amazing speeds. Your blackened bruises changed to green, then yellow, and slowly started to fade, your broken bones were set and mending, and your pallid complexion slowly started to improve.
Donatello was closely monitoring your body as you healed, but he was also amazed at documenting the changes. Your mutation fluctuated and changed the structure of your muscles, improved bone strength, and appeared to enhance your senses. Changes that before were fleeting and temporary. Any fleeting changes to appearance came and went in waves as your body fought over whether you were more human or mutant.
Leonardo sat by your bedside just as he had during the blood transfusion. But you remained motionless in a deep sleep. By now your body was almost completely healed. So why hadn’t you woken up?
Leo held your hand and stroked your wrist with his thumb. Your hand was so small in his.
Mikey was sitting at the foot of your bed playing on his Switch, picking weeds in your Animal Crossing save file so when you woke up it wouldn’t be a mess.
April had been helping to make sure the boys and Master Splinter were all still eating well without you to cook meals for them. She had been by the lair earlier that day to deliver boxes of chinese stir fry and Mikey’s favorite orange chicken.
Some rustling could be heard from the kitchen as empty paper take out boxes were thrown in the trash, and Raph soon entered the room.
“How are they doin’?” Raph had worked the past week with Casey as a team to covertly uncover the Foot agent in the NYPD, and discovered some other officers selling their information to the gang under the table. Casey was given a promotion by the commissioner, and the rest of the uncorrupt police department came together to buy Raphael his own motorcycle as a thank-you present.
“Fever hasn’t gone down. No changes yet. Their vitals are still stable and the scales appear to be discoloring.” Donatello updated from his chair he had practically lived in since they returned with you.
Mikey had spent days with his eyes glued to the spot on your arm. As the green started to fade to match your skin tone and flake off he seemed to become more relaxed.
“Do you think they’re going to end up like us?” Mikey said solemnly.
Leo half smiled at his little brother. “It’s possible… and if they do, we’ll be here for them.”
Mikey hummed in response.
“Shouldn’t we be like, talking to them to pull them out of the coma?”
“This isn’t one of those cheesy hospital soap operas you watch with Master Splinter, Mikey.” Raph gruffed. He took up his usual seat by the door, picking up his whittling knife and resumed his project of shaping the wood block into a dainty flower.
“Well, technically research shows that speaking with a coma patient can stimulate brain activity and draw them into consciousness. So it’s worth a shot.” Donnie shrugged and returned his attention to his computer station. He had rigged up 3 open laptops that he used to monitor your vitals next to police radio chatter and the updates on Stockman and Bebop and Rocksteady’s whereabouts.
After all, they still had a score to settle.
“Hey (y/n)…” Leo started. “We’d really like it if you’d wake up now… It’s too quiet around here without you.”
“Yeah! It’s not the same without you.” Mikey folded his arms on your bed and rested his chin. “You still haven’t taught me how to make your lasagna! And I need your help to beat my game!”
“You need to wake up so you can eat something! It’s not good for your body to be stagnant this long. Usually you’re the one bugging me about my health… And… I miss the way you make coffee. It just tastes better when you make it.”
Raph paused in his whittling and looked at you for a long moment, seemingly looking for any sign of movement. His brothers were all looking at him expectantly. He looked away and blushed.
“...You know you don’t gotta do nothin’… to have our attention, I mean. We just want you back safe and sound. Wake up soon shortstack, don’t keep us waitin’.”
An alert sounded on Donnie’s computer, drawing the boys’ attention.
Donatello fumbled around to grab his keyboard and started typing into the console to pull up the news Casey was forwarding them.
“It’s Stockman. It looks like he’s made more mutants.”
“More mutants?! I thought he used up all of (y/n’s) mutagen on himself!” Leo exclaimed. He walked over to stand behind Donatello and peer over his shoulder.
“There’s a possibility that the puddle left behind in the lab was just enough to use on some small animals, but not enough for a human. The police report reads that 4 frog-like mutants have appeared trying to rob a bank. Luckily the police didn’t mistake them for us.” Donnie rubbed a hand down his face and straightened up.
“Yooooo, frog mutants? You think they might be friendly?” Mikey suddenly looked excited.
“What are we gonna do about (y/n)? We can’t just leave them behind. They’re still sick.” Raph folded his arms looking worried.
“Leave (y/n) in mine and April’s care. She is due to arrive soon, is she not?” Master Splinter entered the room. He stroked his beard thoughtfully. “We can care for them in your place until you boys return.”
Donatello looked nervous as he fussed with his hands. He looked between Splinter and your resting form, and the location flashing on his computer.
“Will you be able to monitor their temperature okay? I can stay behind if-“
Leo placed a hand on Donnie’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, dad’s got this. If anything happens he can give us a call.” Leo reasoned with him.
Donnie still looked unsure but he nodded anyway.
Mikey whooped in excitement and headed for the lair’s exit, followed by Leo.
Raph approached Donnie, his gaze trailing back to the med bay door. “....Any sign of Bebop and Rocksteady?” He asked in a low voice.
Donnie shared the dark look in Raph’s eyes and double checked the report on his wrist.
“Not yet. But with Stockman involved, they shouldn’t be far behind.”
“They better be.”
Donnie grabbed his staff and him and Raphel jogged to catch up to Leo and Mikey. Master Splinter watched the retreating form of his sons from the door, his eyes traveled over to the blinking red light on the screen as the police chatter continued over the radio. The words “armed” and “dangerous” followed the descriptions of the kung-fu wielding amphibians, making the old rat sigh.
He prayed for their safety, and that you would be well and waiting for them upon their return.
Attila the Frog, Genghis Frog, Napoleon Bonafrog, and Rasputin the Mad Frog turned out to be a group of mild-mannered mutants. They were well meaning and naively followed Stockman’s orders thinking that the turtles were the bad guys. With Mikey’s help, they quickly discovered that the amphibians had no intention of helping Stockman take over New York. With some persuasion, Casey agreed to help arrange for the frog mutants to leave New York, and move down to the Florida Everglades away from the city.
But their fight was not yet over.
The Punk Frogs, as they called themselves, had offered their assistance in taking down Bebop and Rocksteady. They knew of the location where Stockman and the two henchmen were hiding, and led them to an abandoned sewage plant at the edge of the city.
There, with the help of the frog mutants, they were able to defeat the mutated Stockman. And no doubt, Bebop and Rocksteady appeared. With the help of the amphibious mutants, the 8 of them managed to subdue the tough duo. The four brothers tried to take it a step farther and beat the living shell out of Stockman and the two, but the peace-loving Punk frogs stepped in and convinced them to rethink their actions and let go of their pent up rage.
That didn’t mean they had to like it.
With Stockman, Bebop, and Rocksteady safely behind bars, they returned home feeling dejected. No matter what they did to Stockman, Bebop, and Rocksteady, it wasn’t going to make you wake up.
The four trudged in through the entrance of the lair, and were met by April running up to them from the med bay.
“It’s (y/n)-!” There was no time to explain as the boys immediately rushed past her and burst through the doors. They were met with the sight of Splinter by your side, holding your hand with a relieved smile on his face as he chatted with you, sitting up in bed.
The turtles held their breath as your vibrant eyes turned to them, and your face lit up with a smile and welcomed them home. Mikey broke down blubbering in tears and the boys all rushed to you. Embracing you in a crowded desperate hug proclaiming how much they missed you. Even Raph shed a few tears of relief.
Since then, they boys only left you alone to bathe and use the toilet without their constant supervision. Strangely enough it became a routine around the lair, the brothers taking turns spending time with you. You could almost call it suffocating, if you didn’t love spending time with them as much as you did. You knew they needed your attention after the scare you gave them being unconscious for so long.
This was just their way of showing you how much they missed you.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Donnie had abducted you to give you a detailed health check up, as usual, making sure everything was healing right and to test your now permanent mutant reflexes.
“How would you say you’re adjusting to the change in strength and reaction time?”
”Good! I haven’t broken anything since Tuesday!” You said proudly.
”…That was only 2 days ago.”
“So…. I haven’t broken anything in two whole days!”
Donnie pinched the bridge of his snoot under his glasses and sighed. Ever the optimist.
Later you joined him at his computer station while he ran simulations on a new program. You parallel played on a free computer until you got bored with what you were doing, and wormed your way into his lap.
You nuzzled your nose under Donnie’s chin. He chuckled at the ticklish sensation before looking down at you and giving you a quick kiss on the head.
“You are not helping my productivity.”
“No, but you could say this is a different kind of productive.”
“And what kind is that?”
“Taking a break.” You smiled at him.
He sighed.
“Okay, you win.” He clicked away from his programming project and changed the window to a website you were streaming Cowboy Bebop from. Donnie hit play on your current episode and snaked his arms around your waist before relaxing back in his chair.
You were beaming, delighted you had won in convincing the overworked turtle to take a break, and relaxed against his chest.
He switched from drinking coffee to water (which he only did on your regulated ‘breaks’), and turned the brightness down on his screen to give his eyes a break.
After 2 episodes, Leo passed by. He paused behind Donnie’s chair for a moment before exiting to the kitchen. A few minutes later he passed by again and loitered around by the computers, pretending to look busy checking the local news reports running on one of the screens.
Donnie groaned and you chuckled.
“I think it’s Leo’s turn to borrow you.” Donnie bemused before releasing you to stand up from your spot on his lap.
Leo perked up and smiled at you, looking a bit bashful at being caught and muttered a quick apology to Donnie for stealing you away. Then he scooped you up and carried you in the direction of the dojo.
“How is your physical therapy going?” He asked casually.
“Good! My shoulder is all better, and I can do sit-ups without any pain now. Though once I get these casts off I can really test my new strength.” You said kicking your leg out emphasizing the cast.
Leo chuckled. He set you down in the dojo where he had prepared a pot of tea for the two of you to share, steam still wafting off the lid.
You sat down on the pillow across the table from him, and began your afternoon chat. He talked about his recent training, what they saw on patrol the night before. And you talked about your life from before. Before you were kidnapped. Before you worked for Stockman. About your life in Japan, where you had been, where else you had traveled to. Leo hung on your every word as you described the different cultures and vibrant cities beyond the glow of New York City. He loved listening to you talk.
“You’ve been to Brazil before, right? What was it like?” You were beaming.
Leo blushed as he straightened up, realizing he was leaning across the table as he listened to you. He fake coughed into his fist to clear his head and center himself again.
“Well, we didn’t exactly get to go sightseeing or anything- but we did get to hike through the Amazon rainforest! There were… a lot of bugs.” He said sheepishly, trying to think of a better way to describe it.
“How big were the bugs? Did you see any snakes?!” Even though Leonardo couldn’t describe things as colorfully as you did, you still ate up everything he said with equal enthusiasm.
Leo’s expression softened. This is why he enjoyed chatting with you so much. His brothers often called him ‘boring’ but you had a way of making him feel unique and interesting. Your change in perspective always kept him guessing and brought new life to things that to him were old and tired.
“Well, actually Mikey thought he had tripped over a tree root, but it was actually an anaconda! He screamed so loud it drew the attention of a nearby research team and we had to hide in the trees when they came to investigate. They thought it was the shriek of some new species of monkey-“
You laughed along with Leo as he continued his story. Your chat lasted well over 2 hours, and eventually Master Splinter came by to remind him that he needed to complete his meditation before nightfall. Leo was a little bashful when he realized how late it was getting.
“Would you like to join me in meditation for a while?”
“Of course!” Leo lended you a hand and pulled you to your feet, then led you over to the tatami mats covering the dojo floor. He took up his usual spot cross legged on the mats, and before he could protest you sat right in his lap.
Leo rested his chin on the crown of your head and mumbled, “Do you think you can concentrate like this?”
You adjusted to sit comfortably with your back straight so you weren’t leaning your weight against Leo’s plastron. “Yup!” You answered comfortably. You closed your eyes and rested your hands in your lap.
Leo chuckled and straightened his posture, rested his hands on his knees, and closed his eyes. Master Splinter passed by and smiled at the antics, shaking his head at the bold youth.
No more than 20 minutes had passed when the sound of Mikey’s rocket board starting up sounded across the lair. Everyone out in the common space ran for cover, and soon the hoots and hollers of the orange ninja echoed down the tunnels.
Leo groaned as he tried to remain focused, while you cracked open a curious eye.
“Woooo hoooo! Surf’s up dudes!” Mikey circled the living room a few times before Donnie got fed up ducking and bumped the bottom of his board with his bo staff as he passed. Mikey flailed his arms correcting his weight and ended up flying into the dojo.
“Incoming!” Mikey hollered as you and Leo easily ducked as his board passed by overhead, undisturbed.
Mikey collided with the weapons rack and caused a loud clatter as the contents crashed to the floor.
“Duuuude…” Mikey was left laying on his shell slightly teetering from side to side. He tilted his head back and looked over to you and Leo, and scrambled to his feet.
“(Y/n)! Did you see me? I totally landed that heel flip! Well- before I crashed. Do you wanna go play Street Fighter with me?” He rambled sliding onto the floor in front of you, posing dramatically on his side.
“Mikey…” Leo started, his tone threatening as he continued to keep his eyes shut. You giggled.
“Okay! Okay! Buuut hear me out! I just unlocked this new character and-”
Leo sighed long and loud. That was your cue to take Mikey and get outta there.
You got up and pecked Leo’s cheek, which immediately extinguished any frustration he was feeling and melted his face into a grin.
“Thanks Leo! Come on Mikey, let's go play games.” You let the orange turtle excitedly tackle your midsection, carrying you over his shoulder and rushing you both out of the dojo leaving the mess behind.
“So Donnie unlocked this new character for me using some cheat codes and he has some sick combos I wanna show you!” He rambled as he flopped you down onto the big couch and started setting up his controllers.
He came back over around the coffee table and handed you your controller before sliding into the seat next to you.
“No going easy on me, okay? I think I finally have the buttons down!” You warned as you prepared yourself to focus on the TV.
Mikey smiled brightly, and selected the new character. His inexperience with the character was his secret handicap.
“You’re on!” He started the match and when the game announced ‘Fight!’, the sound of button mashing echoed throughout the high ceilings.
You fought a few rounds. You hadn’t won any yet but you were starting to come close. Right before Mikey’s character could lock you in a hit combo you nudged him in his side, making him fumbled his buttons. He squawked in protest and leaned into you, trying to push away your controller as you giggled. Some more button mashing and a few well timed strikes later, you managed to defeat Mikey’s fighter.
“Noooooooo!” Mikey lamented as you cheered. He dramatically laid his weight on top of you, smushing you against the couch cushions as you squealed and tried to push him off of you with your good arm. Even with mutant strength it didn’t do you much good.
“Ey (y/n), what’s for dinner?” Raph called over from the kitchen. He was drinking his post workout shake by the fridge, fresh out of the shower.
Mikey and you both quickly sat up on the couch and looked at each other in excitement.
“Pasta and meatballs or raviolis?” You asked Mikey.
“MEATBALLS!!!!” Mikey jumped up onto the couch and cheered.
You laughed at his antics until he suddenly swooped in and grabbed you from underneath your arms and lifted you up, making you squeak in surprise.
“To the kitchen!” He announced to the lair, posing dramatically with you tucked under his arm.
Mikey leapt from the back of the couch, and jogged to the kitchen. He then set you down next to the fridge and opened it.
“Let’s see. We got ground beef, carrots, tomato sauce, ….what else do we need?” Mikey said as he pulled out the ingredients from the fridge.
“Bread crumbs, parmesan, and I’ll add some zucchini for some extra vegetables.” You listed off, pulling out the seasonings you would need from the spice cabinet. When you tried to reach the mixing bowl on a high shelf, Mikey’s plastron pressed against your back as he reached up behind you to grab it.
“Thanks Mikey!” You grinned as he handed it to you.
“No problem babe!”
Mikey gave you a mischievous grin over your shoulder and snuck his hands around your waist. You got a bad feeling and set down what you were holding before Mikey suddenly hoisted you up.
“MIKEY!!!” You hollered as you were spun around the kitchen.
Donnie took notice from where he was relaxing in his computer chair and flipped open his phone to connect his music to the bluetooth speaker. The song “When It Feels Right” by Chase White started playing on the speaker as Mikey obnoxiously mouthed the words. You squealed and started to giggle at the antics. He twirled you around and led you to dance into the lounge. The rest of the boys started to emerge from their corners of the lair, drawn out by the music.
Leo stepped up to politely tap Mikey on the shoulder, and the orange turtle let his older brother cut in. Leonardo let you stand on his feet as he led you confidently in a little waltz around the room.
Next, Donnie swooped in and stole you away. Since he was so tall he held up your legs for you to sit on his forearm while you looked down at him. Donatello held your hand in his as he spun with you romantically in a dizzying dance.
Raph came in last to snatch you away, grabbing your waist to pull you away from Donnie. He didn’t care so much for dancing, so he let you lead. You held his hands, and giggled as you rocked and stepped side to side. He smiled, and when he felt confident, Raphael lifted your hand and gave you a little spin.
When the song finally came to an end, the dream-like state didn’t cease. The music was turned down a little quieter, and all the boys came to sit around the kitchen table as you and Mikey worked together to prepare dinner. The lively conversation floating in the air drew out Master Splinter who joined his sons at the table. You held out the wooden spoon to give Mikey a taste of the sauce, who gave his approval. And dinner was served.
Spaghetti and meatballs.
And a new happy family.
The End :]
