Funny. “Canaries should stay above ground” the statement that I feel like stuck in most people’s heads really enwraps Sam’s mistake. Funny that he didn’t listen to that first statement, that his downfall happened both times he entered spooky basements. The archivist and the betrayal of Celia both taking place underground.
It’s one of those statements that ring around peoples head, not exactly in the fear way but it has the same impact that “the blanket never did anything” feels to me
