Or at the very least a redesign of. his face. because I swear to god I cannot draw bodies properly. Maybe one day this design will get more than a messy sketch.

I do (or did?) love Anubis' canonical design but I also really wanted to experiment a lil with how he would look like with a slightly darker skintone, although I really cannot say I did anything "myth accurate" because in most hieroglyphs I've seen he is Quite Orange. So, he got a darker shade but with the ashy/corpsey impression kept!

Hair. Not much to say. I just wanted to give him something slightly less 2010's (looking very pointedly at the official art atm)

Now, markings, you may ask. Listen. As far as I know, the egyptian gods were said to have skin of gold, so, I kinda imagine he is stuck in that awkward teenager phase where his appearance is changing (relatively) rapidly and he has no idea how anything works, so the markings are basically the result of attempting to get his skin to look slightly less godly and then it just. kinda got a bit stuck like that. Honestly I have just seen too many depictions of Anubis or Anubis-esque creatures with gold speckled skin and it stuck.

I've been seeing people wanting a big fight between the riordenverse protags (Percy, Jason, Magnus, and Carter(and maybe Sadie)). Thing is though, if you threw a brick at Jason he would go down immediately. If there's water near Percy and the Kane's are going to be fighting for a while. And Magnus's only power is that he is a glow stick with a handkerchief boat and a disco sword. He's just going to say "Jack fight them!" throw him and then sit off to the side drinking a Caprisun.

Syvin doesn’t feel he has much of a life to go back to so when things look a little grim on the battlefield, he doesn’t mind being the first to see what using the tadpoles for their power is like. If it makes him incurable but he can help the others, so be it, he can’t go home anyway.

He takes the most of anyone over the journey - even Astarion who relishes in free power realizes the risk he possibly takes with each one and doesn’t wish to push that too far. Syvin doesn’t feel different outside of the power itself, and again doesn’t feel he has anything to lose if he can help these people go back to their lives. And if he does stumble and turn, well he’s not the leader so the others will continue on just fine.

So when the astral tadpole is offered to the group’s leader, it’s Syvin who accepts it without control over his own body. And he suddenly realizes his mistake - how much control do the tadpoles wield over him and what will he do because of them before this is all said and done? Not to mention the fact this adventure gifted him with a partner, someone he wishes to be with whatever time he has left after the fall of the Absolute, even if he never goes home.

He’d be contented to make a new home with his partner but he can’t do that if a mindflayer takes his place.
