AllHipHop: T.I. & Tiny Lose $100M Battle Over OMG Girlz Dolls

In a significant legal victory for toymaker MGA Entertainment, a federal jury in Santa Ana has ruled in favor of the company in a high-profile dispute with rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris and his wife, singer-songwriter Tameka “Tiny” Harris.

The Harris couple had accused MGA of improperly using the likeness of the OMG Girlz, a girl group they managed, in the “L.O.L. Surprise! OMG” line of dolls.

The OMG Girlz, which includes Tiny’s daughter and two of her friends, was promoted by the Harris couple from 2009 until 2015, with a brief reunion in 2017.

In January 2023, Tiny Harris publicly called out MGA Entertainment on Instagram, sharing several photos of the dolls and highlighting their striking resemblance to the members of OMG Girlz.

The couple’s allegations centered on the claim that the hair, dress, and name of the dolls were nearly identical to those of the OMG Girlz and argued that this amounted to an infringement on the group’s likeness.

The couple sought nearly $100 million in damages from MGA, which began selling the dolls in 2019.

MGA Entertainment became embroiled in this legal spat when the Harris couple sent a cease-and-desist order to the company in 2020.

According to T.I. and Tiny, they discovered the dolls when fans brought them to their attention. They then tried to settle the matter privately with MGA, which allegedly led to the toymaker filing a lawsuit against them.

In their countersuit, T.I. and Tiny argued that MGA responded in bad faith. They asserted that instead of discussing a licensing agreement, MGA pre-emptively filed a lawsuit claiming sole ownership of the name and image of the OMG Dolls.

Despite their efforts, the Harris couple lost their legal battle. A jury found the Harris’ and The OMG Girlz abandoned their trademark in 2018, paving the way for MGA’s wins. The jury’s decision signifies that they cannot prevent MGA from marketing the ultra-successful line of dolls.

Star Wars AU where the council time travels back to when Obi-Wan was still an itty-bitty baby initiate. Including, you know. Council Member Obi-Wan Kenobi. So they’re all in their younger bodies and talking with the current non-time traveling members of the council, and they’re like “hold on, we got one more coming in”

Now keep in mind I want the council to always be Up To Shenanigans. And despite everything, every single council member is, at heart, incredibly petty in that special Jedi family way and are so ready to not be dealing with a war Right This Very Minute.

What I keep picturing is Baby-Wan wiggling his way into a chair, situating himself Very Regally, then clasping his hands in classic Negotiator style, then speaking up with the Most Serious Of Tiny Baby Voices as the main spokesperson on the Council Of Petty Time Travelers

how do you clone a fey? that's trick question; and fey love those!

@the-navistar-carol (<333) brought up a good point while I was talking about my changeling danny au with her -- Dani! How would she exist in this au? Danny's a changeling - a fae. How would Dani, a clone of him, be created? How do you make a fey? Not through any means that Vlad is doing; you can't make a fey through unnatural means, considering the Fair Folk are nature. And Vlad's not a fey himself -- he's a halfa, even if he could make a fey, it's not in his best interest too. He's a powerful ghost, but even the weakest fae can overpower the strongest ghost. He won't want a clone of Daniel to be more powerful than him.

(In a three tier hierarchy it goes Ancients -> Fae/Mythos -> Ghosts. They all live in the Infinite Realms, but on different Planes. The fae live above the Ghost Zone in the Fey Wild, while the Mythos live beside the Wilds or down in the ghost zone depending on where they are. Places like the Frozone, the Athens Acropolis, and other such large islands climb throughout all three Planes.)

(While Ghosts can travel into the Fey Wild, its generally advised against as the ectoplasm tends to manifest differently there due to close contact magic. It can make it rather disorientating for a ghost, and as human spirits, the Fae living there would jump them faster than they could blink. So unless you're willing to play mind games with 'steal thy name eat thy face' fae, most ghosts keep out of the way of the Wilds. Fey can travel down into the Ghost Zone, they just don't bother.)

That's of course, not taking into account if Vlad even knows Danny's a fae himself. Vlad doesn't ring me as someone who really cares much about ghost culture or the going ons of the GZ. He might be aware that fae exist, but the moment he realizes he can't use them for personal gain he just doesn't bother with them. The risk is greater than the reward, and he'd rather not get eaten. But lets assume he's aware by now that Danny is fey, and has to take that into account while cloning him.

So, how does Dani exist? Good question! Honestly; i'm not sure. She might not exist at all, or if she does, she's more halfa than fey. Vlad would need a lot of human dna and ectoplasm to balance out all that fae magic. He manages to steal DNA from Jack and Maddie to do it, and since Jack's fey ancestry is very dormant its much easier to use alongside Danny's DNA.

In turn, it results in a little girl whose more human-ghost hybrid than clone. With that little extra boost in fey magic making her not a fey, but still relatively powerful. Dani is less of a clone and more of a lab-grown little sister. It's a rather tedious, complex process that has Vlad tearing his hair out trying to figure out. But he does eventually figure it out.

The fandom when Anya is nice to jimmy and compliments/butters him up after the crash: obviously this is a fawn response. She doesn’t actually think these things about jimmy, she is simply trying to protect herself against a volatile, unstable person by placating him

The fandom when curly tries to placate jimmy by telling Jimmy he’d fix things, after being very nervous about jimmy’s anger and reaction when talking to Anya right beforehand and his heart racing so hard on the way to confront jimmy that he’s likely on the verge of a panic or anxiety attack: hmm. Obviously everything curly is saying to jimmy here is completely genuine and not motivated by anything. He obviously doesn’t care about the fact jimmy raped Anya and only cares about helping jimmy at the detriment to Anya. He’s a rape apologist. There could literally be no other potential explanation for why curly is saying the things he is saying right now. Let’s take everything curly is saying here completely at face value and not analyze anything else about Curly’s behavior or the rest of the scene.
