RP Advent Calendar

Here's a prompt, challenge or encouragement for every day this December. You can queue some of them, and ignore others. They're designed to be done one each day, but you can pick and choose what suits you.

Write a winter holiday starter!

Find a winter themed meme and reblog it.

Muse headcanon prompt - what, if anything, do they celebrate? And how do they feel about it?

Change your blog theme to fit the season. If that feels overwhelming, just change your avatar picture.

Go through your mutuals and write up an ask that details everything you like about them, be it anonymously or not.

Write an open holiday starter that anyone can join and open the proverbial doors.

Make an effort to send out a few memes to your mutuals and followers, extra points if it’s holiday themed.

Muse headcanon prompt - what do they wear to the holiday office party?

Write holiday letters or postcards from the POV of your muse to another muse and post them on your blog. 

Write a starter where winter is the enemy - be it because of a violent blizzard or a terrible winter witch.

Clean up your muse bios and make them ready for the new year.

Find or make some winter themed moodboards and post them to your blog. 

Write a winter poem to the RPC and post it. Tag it with #RPCpoem, so we can all see them!

Take a break. We’re mid-december and things are getting stressful for a lot of us. Leave tumblr for a bit and carve out some time for IRL recovery today, even if it’s just 10 minutes by yourself in the bathroom.

Find a winter fairy tale and write a starter OR a headcanon based on that (from https://fairytalez.com/ for example). Doesn’t have to be fairy tale themed, just take some inspiration.

Make a pinterest board of your muse and their holiday celebration during winter. If they don’t celebrate, show us what they’re doing instead.

How would a winter holiday with your muse sound like? Make a playlist.

Search the open starter tag (or any RP tag you follow) and take the plunge. If there’s an open starter you like where the blog is open for newcomers, reply to it. If you find a blog you like, follow them. 

Send someone in the RPC a gift. For example: Write a little drabble, just one paragraph, of what your muse would give their muse. Or see if you can tip their blog, if you’ve got the finances to. Or just send them that picture or pin that made you think of them, even if you don’t dare to.

Muse headcanon prompt - this is usually a time for family, found or otherwise, which is either a good or a terrible time. How does it look for your muse and what is their relationship to their family like? 

Mistletoe time. Make a starter call for some winter kisses, see if anyone takes the bait. 

It’s time for another break! This time, try shutting down the internet and your computer a little earlier before bedtime.

LET'S TALK MEMES ETIQUETTE !!

There's plenty of posts out there dealing with reblog karma and reblogging memes from the source. However, I haven't found any about another essential aspect when it comes to memes, so let's go!

Reblogging memes from the source (or in general) when not sending anything to the person who has reblogged it first is a mostly consolidated practice by now. However, there's another extremely important aspect that plenty of us forget to consider, and that can be as bad as not reblogging memes from the source:

The timing.

Let's picture this situation, something that must have happened to all of us at least once: you reblog a meme, maybe one you're excited about, and ten seconds later someone else reblogs the same meme (from the source). Now this can't really be a coincidence, it means that the other person saw your meme, liked it and decided to reblog it too. Without sending you anything.

They reblogged it from the source!

Yes, they did. But it's obvious that they still took it from you and didn't bother to send you anything.

This isn't saying that you always have to send in something when taking a meme from someone else. Of course, there are plenty of times when we can't think of something to send, or we don't want to send something because we don't want an extra thread.

And here comes what I mentioned before. The timing. Reblogging that meme instantly as in the example could be disheartening for your mutual. Not to mention that people might see your reblog and not the one of the person who reblogged it first, if you have a lot of shared followers.

However, this doesn't excuse you from not sending memes that concerns headcanons or questions for the mun. It takes thirty seconds to pick one and leave it in the person's ask box. So do it. Not only will that make the person happy, but it will prompt them to send you an ask in return.

You don't need to do this all the time, every day. If you regularly send memes to that person, then they won't feel like you're using them as a resource blog.

At the end of the day, it's all a matter of being mindful of your RP partners. If you see a meme you like and you don't feel like sending anything to the person who reblogged, consider waiting before reblogging it yourself. Tumblr allows us to schedule posts, so all you have to do is postponing the posting and you won't even have to bother to remember to reblog it at a later time.

Let's all contribute to make the RPC a more welcoming, interactive place!

it has been a long time since I last role-played (literally years) and I used to do it on Twitter. My question is how does it work on Tumblr? Is the rp in the dms or public via this question box or what?

Hi! 💞 as far as I've seen most roleplay here on Tumblr happen in public via ask box, you send/get sent any type of roleplay prompt or start of conversation (there are blogs who post rp memes and starters for people to reblog so that others can choose a prompt to send from the list, but it's not always required to wait for a prompt list, you can also send/get prompts and starters without having reblogged a post beforehand) and after the answer to that ask the roleplay moves forward through reblogs

Example: you send me an ask saying "Hi" and I answer to that ask with "Hello", at that point if you want to continue the rp you reblog my answer with your own continuation like "How are you", after which I reblog yours with my own continuation and so on and so forth for as long as we want

If a thread happens to get too long after a while (something that might happen, I once had an rp thread go on for months on another rp blog of mine, it was a monster of a thread) you can also make a new post starting with a "Continuation from" or something along those lines (personally I love to use, "Previously on [Name blog/Title rp thread]" but everyone uses what they prefer) with a link to the previous thread so that it starts anew and it's not too long anymore, and of course you can do that as many times as it's needed

As for roleplaying in private in the dms, to me personally it happened only once. The other blog wanted to try out some triggering themes but didn't want to write those things where everyone else could read them so we ended up roleplaying in my dms

I honestly have no idea if it's a common thing or not, but as someone who grew up roleplaying on F*ceb*ok where most rps happened in private chats (some did happen on public posts but no one wanted to risk posting things that might get reported/banned, especially with the group I used to be in where we would often indulge in dark themes, heavy angst, explicit torture and sometimes even NSFW roleplay between our characters) it's not that weird to me so usually it depends on what my roleplay partner prefers

It's very rare for me to feel embarassed or anxious about roleplaying something so I'm always ok with public rp (and yes, even public NSFW rp, though usually I put those kind of things under the read more thing)

Other than that I guess it can change from person to person, maybe some have a preference for private rp and others for public rp, I've seen some who only accept asks from mutuals and keep anon off, but usually each blog has their own rules posted for those things so it's easy to know

I've also noticed two different ways to divide between muse and mun, some people use the "/" when talking as the mun (ex, *Character does/says something* /Omg this was so fun to write XD <- second part is the mun and not the character, usually put a couple of empty lines under the rp) while others use tags (ex, *Character does/says something* *down in the tags #omfg I can't believe he did that #this was so fun to write tho #your answer was so good #idek wtf is going on anymore* and each reblog adds new tags of their own to talk outside the rp as a sort of conversation), personally I've used both depending on what my rp partner prefers (I adapt quite easily) so use whatever you feel is right for you

Now, I'm not a Tumblr rp etiquette professional so there might be things I don't know/forgot to mention/got wrong, but also it's pretty easy to learn once you get into the right circle, I remember the first time I started roleplaying (both here on Tumblr and before on the Book app) I was basically going in blind and just imitating what everyone around me was doing while barely understanding why they were doing certain things until I started learning by observing and got bolder with my own roleplay so don't worry if you don't understand/know everything right away and give yourself some wiggle room to learn and make mistakes here and there

FYI, this is a secondary NSFW safe blog for my muse over at @mors-pulchritudo. (She is an adult, she is 23 in her species' years.) The rules for this blog are basically the same, except for a few changes. Namely rules 1 and 8.

(Rule 1 change) On this blog, NSFW is allowed. What does this mean? It means that there may be sexual content, less censored violence, triggers, and the like. Hey there! I'm glad my blog has been a valuable resource to you.

It's definitely difficult starting out in the community, as there are many different structures and moving parts to learn. Hopefully, my advice here will be of some use too!

Looking at your blog, you have a really nice theme! It's very clear to read and quite beautiful. However, you may be having some trouble finding people to interact with because they may still be viewing you as a personal blog.

RP blogs differ from personals in a couple of different ways that I'll outline here.

(A.) Content and reblogs.

RP blogs are made up of largely tagged posts that fall into a few different categories. OOC posts, headcanons, threads, aesthetics, dash games, and more. These are almost always tagged accordingly and don't usually fall outside the main purpose of the blog. I see that your blog is for the most part empty and already following this standard, though you may want to integrate the tag system for easier navigation! I'd try to add a little bit more flavor to your blog by adding drabbles here and there as writing samples, or reblogging aesthetic/visage posts!

(B.) Rules and muse page.

One of the largest things that sets a personal apart from an rp blog is the way in which you set up your rules and muses. There is additional information on this post on how you might go about making a rules and muses page, but another way for beginners is to make a pinned post and put all information under a read more. It looks like you've already got a bio going, so here's how I personally would organize that as an example:

Obviously this is your blog and you have every right to make it how you'd like, but these are just my suggestions!

Other than that, it's a matter of being patient and reaching out to others. Not everyone will be down to rp, and that's okay. It takes time and patience, and largely an understanding of that concept. What you give, you get back. It can be discouraging when you can't find many to rp with, but it's important to remember that negativity truly will breed negativity here. Waiting for others to approach you won't always work, so you may need to ask and try to engage with others! Don't be afraid to say what you want!

I slowly tried to make a new alias for other muses I wanted to write without having them be associated with me-- for some reason? Wanted to hide or start fresh or something I guess? BEST EXPERIENCE: To be perfectly honest shit-posting/memes are always a welcome relief and the best way to destress. I recall previously that myself and group of fellow hooligans would constantly make photoshop edits of stupid things that would go around on the dash. Example(s) of something(s) I made during that time:

But I also really enjoyed being able to deep dive into characters relations and how they worked against or with each other. Especially when it came to characters who didn't have their entire story brought to the forefront, like most videogame characters. You don't get to see the behind the scenes stuff with them, most the time, so it's fun to see how they could have gone about or reacted to different situations/after the fact/how it affected them.

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS: Lack of communication. Sometimes I forget things, so I'll typically come ask for an answer or reconfirming that I didn't miss something or misinterpret anything. If there is an issue, I am begging, please just approach me. I often will do this if I have a problem, all I ask is the same in return. I can't stand constantly being left on read, especially when trying to discuss stuff plot related. We can't be on the same page if we don't have conversations going BOTH WAYS.

Other than that I'm pretty relaxed. I, as a slow writer, won't hound people practically ever for responses. We're adults, life happens, things come up, muses hide or aren't as strong as others. As long as you aren't actively ignoring me/our threads, there's no problem. If I don't see you posting at all then I know you just need a breather and that is A-OKAY. This is a hobby for fun. Why be fussy and cause problems due to impatience? I guess that is another pet peeve- impatience- lmao.

MUSE PREFERENCES: Bottoms. I notice myself writing of lot of "tsundere" types? Or redheads. I just love them. Misunderstood but fight against the world because they don't want anyone to know that they're broken.

PLOTS OR MEMES: Both. Both is good. Everything in balance. I used to meme a lot, and I've definitely toned it down. But I don't know, sometimes getting too serious or having too many think-hard-about threads can be tiring, and lil shitposting is a good breather to be able to let you get back on with it.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: Both are nice. I tend to overwrite, simply because my style will typically go into my muse's thought process(es), or if the thread is still being established, I try to set the scene or give background information. But, short replies are nice. Gives you a small thing to work on and take a rest between lengthier threads. That's also why I like random inbox prompts. Not all of them have to go anywhere- just gives you a space to do something else aside from your drafts.

BEST TIME TO WRITE: I am absolutely not a morning person. Night owl to the max. You will see me up still at 3am more often than not. I typically wake up around 10am-1pm, so I'm usually writing right around dinner.

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): In some aspects, sure. Not entirely like one-for-one with any muse, but there's always at least a piece of myself in each muses. Helps write them better, in my opinion. Only exceptions typically being any "self-insert" like characters. (ie. Robin/Avatar from Fire Emblem: Awakening). Most of those characters still have a base personality to them though, so unless you completely customize them, they're still pretty "how do YOU respond" choices change how they are.

MOST ACTIVE MUSE? That usually depends. Most of my interactions are very balanced, but there are times when I have more threads with some over others. Right now it's Alexandra and Rachel. But when it comes to inspiration for writing, my most active ones would be Emry and Joe.

EXPERIENCE / HOW MANY YEARS? I've been part of the tumblr RPC since 2015, so technically 8 years. But I've been writing for two more on ProBoards before that, so all in all 10 years of rping.

BEST EXPERIENCE? There are so many different kinds of experiences and many were great, to be honest. I don't want to single out one. Generally, the best ones are always the connections I make both with the muns OOC and between our muses, building a whole little canon universe around them. It makes it a very immersive experience and I adore that.

RP PET PEEVES? I think this whole 'reblog from the source' thing nowadays incredibly tedious and silly. I get it when it comes to memes, but not inspiration posts etc. What's the point of being mutuals if we can't share our posts with each other?

I can tell if someone reblogs a post from the source after they saw it on my blog beforehand. It doesn't change anything. It just makes it incredibly weird and awkward, imo. Kinda off-putting. Like, as if mutuals feel embarrassed about being mutuals and they want to avoid any trace of their followers on their blog. So please, for the love of the universe, feel free to reblog stuff directly from me. Don't be afraid about that. I don't mind at all <3

Another one that I see spreading on here is sending memes but never or only selectively acknowledging what that person wrote for you. It makes you feel like they only sent the meme for the sake of being a good mutual and not because they actually want to see that interaction.

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT? Depends on the muse. Smut definitely comes in last, tho. I think I prefer angst over fluff, but both can be incredibly great to write with certain muses.

PLOTS OR MEMES? I love the whole process of plotting, ngl.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES? Depends on the muse as well. I prefer about three paragraphs somewhere in between. Too short isn't engaging or stimulating enough for my brain, that's why I never do one-liners or shorter than a paragraph. And too long can burn me out sometimes and take me longer to respond to, so I am always worried my partners are getting impatient bc I'm low-activity, mostly.

TIME TO WRITE? I love late afternoon and in the evening hours. Right now, my new time-zone is very annoying, tho.

This special Halloween event is for the Smash / General Nintendo community! If your muse chooses to attend, they will transform into a Halloween creature upon arrival to Halloween Town ( like Kingdom Hearts ). It’s up to you what sort of Halloween entity your muse will become! Of course, if your muse is already scary, they needn’t change. Duplicate muses are welcome!

You may find non-mutuals participating in the event, you are not required to interact with everyone, but please be respectful and open to everyone.

You don’t have to be following this blog, but it makes life easier since all updates will be posted here. Jack Skellington and Count Dracula will be the main hosts of this event.

Your muses will be staying at Hotel Transylvania during the event, which Count Dracula runs. He is an old friend of Jack. The graveyards at each location offer a quick portal to and fro.

I wanna stress that this event is open to everyone in the RPC. Smash is about celebrating crossovers and Sora being in Smash makes everything canon. Don’t be afraid to get involved! Canon characters, OCs or otherwise, you’re all welcome to have some spooky fun in Halloween Town!

It will take place the throughout all of October with special events every week. This means everyone gets a chance to take part, but you’re not locked into the event, you can RP outside of it normally of course! Your muses will be helping Jack and the rest of the town make Halloween happen! They will also get to experience many different activities such as pumpkin carving and finding a prize through a haunted maze. Parties will also take place at the Hotel and live music events. The events aren’t time sensitive and can overlap, so don’t worry if a new one starts and you’re still having fun with another one. For example, your muse can carry on pumpkin carving, while a masquerade party is also happening. You can take part in as many or as few events as you like. 𝐒𝐌𝐔𝐓 . . . This is highly unlikely to be written on the dashboard, and I do not enter into this without a level of trust with my role-play partner. So, if your sole interest is smutting, I suggest not following me. I am much more comfortable with fade to black as a general rule of thumb unless we have built a strong OOC relationship. I'm not very confident in my writing on this topic to do it often or even on the dash. I have written smut several times in the past.

𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄 ≠ 𝐌𝐔𝐍 . . . My muse's thoughts, feelings, and actions are not the same as mine, supporting or thinking the same way my muses do. If my muse says they hate apples, for example, that doesn't mean I hate apples. That is a very light example. There is no bleeding of my personal opinions into my muses.

𝐀𝐒𝐊 𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐒 . . . these never go out of style, so feel free to send me as many as you want. If you want to respond to an ask, please move your response to another post linking the answered ask somewhere in there so I can go back to see what I wrote and respond to your reply. If you reblog the ask post itself and post a roleplay response on it then I will not respond. As much as I'd love to be here writing posts every day all day, that's just not going to happen. My queue is set low so that way there isn't long gaps of time that there isn't something posted on my blog.

Mains/Exclusives & Shipping

This blog does play with multiples of the same muse, and that does go for shipping too. That does not mean I enjoy one interpenetration over another, I enjoy all interpretations. RP for me is about fun, and having a good time. It is not a competition, and everyone’s interpretation of a muse is valid and unique.  If you do not understand that, then please do not write with me.

I am selective on what romantic pairings I do with my muses, both in what pairings there are and who I write with. I prefer some OOC rapport be built before we get into shipping, but I am open to discussing the possibilities anytime! Never feel afraid to approach me. 

In that same vein, I do not do Mains/Exclusives in general, except on Verses (AKA a closed verse). If someone wants to make me their main or exclusive, you can do so! I’d be flattered! However, that does not mean I will be exclusive/mains back. This includes shipping as well, as I do ship with multiples of the same character and write with multiples of the same character. Everything I write with each mun is separate unless specified otherwise

General Writing Stuff

I am much better at plotting rps (at least a bit!) as compared to 100% winging it, especially for crossovers or aus. My DMS are always open for it, so don’t feel afraid to reach out!

OOC communication is a must!!! 

No godmodding my character unless you have permission from me to do so. Please ask before hand if you need to do this for a reply. 

MUN DOES NOT EQUAL THE MUSE. 

I won’t be doing any writing of any actual cardfights on this blog. Battle scenes I’m fine with and can do, but anything that’s a game will not be written out. However, using it as a plot element or saying something happened is of course a okay! I just know trying to write out an actual game is very hard and can be pretty clunky! 

You may start a thread via sending me an ask, tagging me in a post with a starter, or sending me a starter meme. I do prefer plotted starters over anything else to begin (esp with new people), but I can work with most what anyone gives me. 

Reply speed can vary. Sometimes I write a lot, sometimes I only post one thing. What I am I’m interested in writing/which muses I am vibing with can shift randomly! I also am a busy student in Grad School and hopefully, soon a PHD student. This is nothing personal! I simply write what I’m motivated to write at the moments I can sit down and write, and sometimes I can’t even do that. RP is, again, a hobby. Usually plotting helps a lot with reply speed since it gives me a direction to go in, though!

In the same vein, if I drop a thread it is nothing personal either. I certainly am never offended if anyone wants to drop something with me. RP is a two way street, and if one person isn’t vibing a thread for whatever reason, then I don’t see any reason to keep forcing it. Something new can always be made if something is dropped!!!

Muse Interpretation

My Keiko is what like to call canon based and headcanon expanded, meaning she does mostly follow canon (mainly based off the original anime) as a basis but with some expanded characterizations or slight changes to make her my own. 

Keiko's orientation is hetero!

All the headcanons/character lore I post are ones that I create based off my own interpretations or discussions I’ve had talking with some of my mutuals. I don’t own any of my headcanons, and if someone happens to have the same HC as me (which happens a lot esp in big fandoms), agrees with my hcs, and wants to use that for their muse if they write the same chr, go for it. Great minds think a like, and everyone can write their muse how they want to! 

Writing Style

I tend to view my writing style as if I am a storyteller, which usually my writing has sometimes some humor, a lot of character introspection, imagery, and lore, world, and context building. 

I tend to write A LOT, as a result. However, I do not expect anyone to match my length at all! As long as I’m given enough to work with, we should be golden! If I can’t work something, I’ll be sure to reach out! 

I do not usually use Japanese honorifics (Kun, Sama, Chan, San, etc) in my writing since I am not confident in my abilities to use them correctly and do not want to offend or disrespect Japanese culture and the language. However, if it is a honorific that is used in canon, then I might use it. This is dependent on my partner though. My partners are free to use them though of course!

I use bold for emphasis, italics for internal thoughts or narration, and bold italics for emphasis on internal thoughts or narration. I might also use big text or special fonts for a flourish here and there, depending on what I’m writing. 

Graphics

I use one divider and blockquote icons in my posts, along with colored text. If you need colored text removed for our interactions or tagged, please let me know asap!

I make all my own icons, gifs, manga coloring and headers so please DO NOT STEAL THEM.

Any art used in edits/icons is either official art or fanart used with permission.

☆ I have a lot of favorite rp memories. So, it's hard to narrow it down. I think one of my favorite memories are usually crack threads I have going on. Sometimes it starts off based on a meme and 70 reblogs / comments (not really that amount) later, we're still going. It's even great when others chimes in too.

Or meeting all my friends in the rpc.

🌵 my worst roleplay memory

☆ I have quite a few. I think someone did the whole mun = muse thing with me. Since I was playing as an asshole muse, they took it as me being an asshole, despite me stating that my muse is an asshole. Another worst rp memory is someone trying to pretend to be me. Luckily, anyone who was friends with the person knew right away that it wasn't me and asked as well.

☆ It really depends.

I honestly get drawn more towards grumpy characters or ones who are quiet and reserved ones. At least, the male characters. I also tend to lean on the comedic relief ones too. Look at Vasco (Greedfall) or Charles (rdr2).

Female characters tend to be either badass and don't hesitate to take up space or those who are cheerful and optimistic. Isabela (Dragon Age) is one example.
