ー Nova's involvement:

Nova is a recruitable companion set in the Mass Effect trilogy. She can be recruited as early as the first game, but can be recruited in the second game as well.

Nova is an informant, who helps a lot with information. Although Liara doesn't necessarily need too much help as the Shadow Broker, Nova still offers her assistances towards the other woman if and when it is needed. Nova joins the Normandy in hopes that her info collecting skills could be proven useful, though it is pushed aside during the second game. This stems from the fact that she thinks her skills as such is not as needed. Not when Liara is right there.

Nova came close to dying before and came back to life, though she doesn't remember much of who was behind helping her. She couldn't even place a name. A mysterious figure who helped her out. This could raise some suspicion.
