I think it works better in the context of the entirety of AMV Hell 3, which I did end up finding the original version of! The original creators reuploaded AMV Hell 3 last year with some edits, and the original version has TWO WHOLE EXTRA MINUTES OF NICHE ANIME AND CULTURAL REFERENCES lol.

I don't know how this will land today, but my nostalgia is tingling for the days in middle school. I legit watched this over an hour long video that is just basically random AMV clips strung together multiple times as a teenager.

in discord today talking abt translation discourse and at some point im reminded of watching kizumonogatari fansubs that had a weird translation pun that mustve been hell to work with but it was years ago and i only remember pun dialogue having beer and babies involved in it

so i go to youtube to try and find the scene. its the scene after araragi beats dramaturgy and is talking to hanekawa in the school yard. go through several searches skim several videos, its all fucking AMV's anyways not worth or helpful

remember i posted abt it in discord, do like 5 searches with different filterings and sift through each trying to find where it was i talked abt it. i didnt find it but i did find out i watched kizu sometime in 2019 so now i have a reference of a year

i give up and say "at least i can find the moment in the book" so i go find the book online, do several searches trying to find the moment, it was when araragi beat dramaturgy and he used baseball throws to do it, search baseball, search metal, search beer, search babies, search baby, search dramaturgy, search Dramaturgy (case sensitive) find where theres a gap in page count, eventually find the spot which is:

i remember being 7, 8, hanging out at a friend's house while he was playing video games and coming across his collection of all 42 dragon ball volumes. it was the mirrored french version that had some weird translation choices, such as transliterating goku as 'sangoku' (as in merging his first and last name together), master roshi being called genius tortoise, etc. while id loved reading i think it was at that point the longest story id ever read by far. it introduced me to manga and graphic novels as a whole, it pumped me up and provoked visceral emotional reactions. i think it was the first time any work of fiction made me cry, when goku sacrificed himself to defeat cell and then when vegeta blew himself up and finally when they used every earthling's power to use the spirit bomb against buu. when i got to the end of volume 42 i ardently started looking for what came next because surely it couldn't be over! i begged my mom to remove parental controls on our large home pc so i could search for dragon ball, and it's how i found gt and the movies, on dubious websites where the 144p videos were embedsed with lousy fansubs. i think dbgt was the first series i ever streamed. i discovered deviantart, fanfiction dot net by looking for fan content of dragon ball. i discovered forums. eventually i discovered youtube as a preteen, watching so many linkin park amvs. dragon ball led me to the internet, it led me to reading more manga, it led me to the first real realisation of how long form content could create stories and exciting fights and provoke deep emotions within me. even as a teen and adult i periodically reread it with a smile. even when it's bad, even when it's aged poorly or you can see where toriyama's editors forced a last minute major change to the story, toriyama had a gift for still keeping things exciting, coming up with a bigger more worrying threat, making you root for its characters. vegeta remains imo one of my favourite redemption arcs in all of fiction. the work dragon ball did, its humor, its fights, its imagery all changed not just me but the industry as a whole, and imo 95% of shounen mangaka dont quite manage to capture that energy and emotion through fights he did. it's the grandaddy of all shounen for a reason.

Like Real People Do

Hello! This was a concept that rattled itself into place when I was listening to Hozier earlier. Yes, the song is the title, I recommend listening to it and imagining the AMV as I have lmaooo--also this is technically GhiraLink, but "Lop" is the term to describe the Hero. Lop is called that (his dad started it)due to the fact that he is deaf with ears that flop(poor baby Cannot Hear unless it's Ghirahim).

(Also there is more under the cut, but I wanted this to be easily scrolled past.)

It was indescribable.

The Hero of the era that Ghirahim had found himself in was covered in dirt and sand, grit clinging to his curly blonde hair, pale blue eyes peering at Ghirahim.

Ghirahim had rust clinging to some of his skin, his skin cracking with black showing through, grime and crud coated onto his metallic body, his clothes not doing too hot after having been buried.

Not minutes before, the dirt had been disturbed after thousands of years of being left alone, scraping, scrambling, digging, moving dirt away to uncover him, bugs and worms being moved aside with the dirt they had called home for a long time.

It was midnight, and the Hero had been frantically digging.

Why?

What could the Hero have possibly been looking for? What did he bury that he was trying to recover?

As the Demon Sword was pulled from its resting place, buried in the earth, it was like Ghirahim was mended by the rough, large hands of the Hero...

How strange.

Ghirahim didn't ask the Hero where he came from...

...and the Hero didn't ask either.

Ghirahim recognized the look on the Hero's face, his eyes seeking, begging, pleading, looking...for something that was there long ago. Ghirahim didn't ask him why he was searching, in some sad way he already understood.

It was a little terrifying for him to feel the presence of Power on anyone other than his Master.

The Hero carried it.

Ghirahim had dreamed of others that held Power--his master and later the Gerudo King in several eras, and even that strange Twili who shared with the Gerudo King.

But never a Hero.

Why...

A million thoughts ran through Ghirahim's mind, trying to piece it together, trying to understand, the last thing he remembered clearly was dying...during the Era of Sky.

But this was the Era of Light Reversal.

And the Hero wasn't named Link, he was named Lop.

Lop...held memories he shouldn't have had. He had access to Ghirahim's very thoughts and memories, the memories of the Gerudo King, the thoughts and dreams and ideas of the Twili, and every trace of Demise that no one else could possibly have.

Ghirahim felt drawn to Lop so strongly.

He called him the Strange Link absently, not knowing what else to do than follow Lop closely. Lop was...endearing. He was almost exactly like Demise, but a little calmer, a little quieter, less hungry for power and revenge.

And Ghirahim...

He wondered if Lop would mind being treated like an equal by his sword. He wondered if he would be safe in doing so, he wanted to see himself being Lop's.

Lop's...what?

He could just...claim Ghirahim in any way and Ghirahim would be so pleased to serve the purpose set for himself.

But occasionally, Ghirahim snuck glances at Lop during more intimate moments. He wanted. He coveted him, wanting to feel that soft skin himself without being told that his hands were too cold to the touch.

He wanted to taste Lop's sweetness, to kiss him as real people do.

Dipawali special | Amv x Vanathi, VV x Kundavai

( Plz read the AN in the end, as it has info about the future posts, etc. )

      Vanathi sat on the floor drawing a big rangoli on one of the passageways in front of the big windows which looked over the scenery below. Just then she heard someone calling her from behind and a cry of a baby. She knew whose baby it was in an instant.

   "Ilavarasi! Please look at our little Ilavarasare! He just won't stop crying!"

   "Just bring him over" Vanathi shouted back, as Aamani came near her, with little madhu in her hands. Aamani handed madhu over to her. Vanathi's motherly instincts took over her as she didn't care that her fingure were lathered with pigments or that she was on the floor in an uncomfortable position, all that mattered to her was that her child was crying and she needed to console him.

      Vanathi took madhu in her hands and holded him close to her. He fitted so perfectly in her arms. His little head was resting on her shoulder as she slowly tapped his back, slowly cooing him. Someone had called Aamani from some other hallway so she had to go. She started to walk away but not before giving the mother and son duo an adoring look.

      Vanathi kept holding him. She could see the whole city below the palace starting to light up more than ever. Children's laughter, the smell of delicious delicacies cooking in the palace kitchen and the city. She wanted to stop this moment and just be in it for a long time. Everything and everyone was happy and good. And that the happiness of her life was resting on her shoulders right now.

      A few minutes after Madhu had stoped crying, she felt someone's presence behind her. She felt scared when it came all to near her. And even more scared when it slowly slid it's hand around her waist through all her clothing.

   "Who are you?" She asked as she prepared to strike the man.

   "Do I need to introduce myself to you mam?" Said the man. Vanathi relaxed as she figured out who it was.

   "Yes mister" she said playing along with him

   "Hmmm.... Let me think.... I am your husband, the father of your child and most importantly I am and will always be your yaanai paagan." Arulmozhi replied, whispering the last part, while resting his chin on her free shoulder.

      A small giggle left her mouth as he did so. Both of her loves were resting on her shoulders. They stayed like this for some time.... Just enjoying the silence, Amv had to leave for a battle in a few days, so he was cherishing all these moments.

   "Aaya, we must get up now, the Pooja and programs will start now. Besides, people will start to look for us... Common, we must get up." Vanathi said while getting up. Amv looked unhappy at this, but, well, she was right .. wasn't she.

      After getting up, he stared at both of them as she fixed her dress, after sitting for so long. He always thought that what did he do to deserve such good and beautiful wife and child. His little tiger looked like him, but had inherited Vanathi's lotus like eyes. And... He was really mischievous. And he can say it confidently that he had inherited this mischievous behaviour from his father... Much to Vanathi's dismay.

      Vanathi looked up at him and caught him starting at her. She smiled to herself.

   "Do you want to hold him?"

   "Ha" Vanathi handed him Madhu and then both of them started to walk towards the mandir.

( Plz read... IMP : So, not to offend anyone, I am not a tamillian, so I don't actually know what they do there during Diwali.... I tried to search from Google but to no avail. In Maharashtra, we have a thing called 'Abhyanga Snan' in which, on the main day of Diwali (Narak chaturdashi / laxmipoojan) we wake up early morning and lather us with oils, massage, then we bath with utna and moti soap, I wanted to do something with VV and Kun on Diwali so .... Here it is)

      "Aae will you stay still! " Vanathi said. It was the morning of Diwali and Kundavai and Vanathi were massaging Vanthyathevan before the bathe. They had just did the same thing with Ponniyin selvan before VV, he had been quite but now he was sitting in front of Vanthyathevan panting like he had ran till Singhala and back.

   "Are you trying to pull my hair out!" VV screamed as Kundavai oiled his hair rather.... Violently.

   "Shut up! Look at Thambi, he sat quietly when we were massaging him! Just stay still."

   "He is a good boy! And you both were gentle with him! And you both are treating me like I am a dirty cloth, and you are cleaning me alongside a river" After making this statement, Kundavai stoped abruptly. She bended down, came near his ear, and said:

   "Maybe you are a piece of cloth."

   "But I am your piece of cloth... Ain't I?" He replied turing his head to come face to face with her's.

   "Maybe you are right" she said in almost a whisper. Their faces were so close to each other.... That.... Well.... You get it.

      "Aaiyo Akka I am also here! Don't forget that you are infront of your thambi!" Arulmozhi shouted sensing where it was going. When he shouted this Kundavai got straight up with heat creeping up her face faster than anything. She quickly looked at her thambi who had covered his eyes with his hands, and had a traumatized look on his face. Vanathi had turned away from them and was standing with her hands on her eyes.

      "Aae! Overacting machines! Got awkward by just this? Do I need to remind you how madhu came in this world in the first place?" Kundavai asked knowing full well what effect this tease was going to have on them.

   "Akka" both of them them shouted, while emerging out of their respective hiding positions. Both of their faces were tomato red. I mean... More than tomato red.

      This reaction caused both Vanthyathevan and Kundavai to laugh out loud. They both were blushing so furiously, that Vanthyathevan thought that the couple might burst out of shyness. The rest of the festive day went like this. They were happy afterall! And ... Maybe... Teasing each other was the only this which the four of them did throughout that day. And we can just say, that the teasing went a big too far away till the night, as they went to sleep, stomach paining from all that laughing.

I wrote a whole essay once on how To The Blade by Everything Everything is the perfect song for Ferncloud and Cloudtail in the wake of learning that Ashfur is the imposter once, but then deleted it lmao. The song is about the limitations of empathy in understanding the actions of a monster, how you'll drive yourself insane thinking of everything you could have done differently, and the intense feelings of helplessness and shame in losing someone you cared about to extremism

It's lost a little bit in the Rewrite... though I am thinking of making Cloudtail Ashfur's mentor to preserve it a bit because I really sitting there and thinking about this song with them in particular.

I think Whole Lotta Rosie is just a delightful song for Tangleburr, and AC/DC in general. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, also. She's just my little hard AC/DC girl I love her, this kinda rock music just fits her so perfectly

Literally every single time I think about Reedwhisker, the beat of Hard Knock Life (2014) comes into my head... and also the Spiderman video. Reedwhisker is my favorite butt monkey.

For Brokenstar I imagine a lot of different things, Barbarism Begins At Home by the Smiths is a common one, but I also gravitate towards Goat by Man Man for how the whole song feels like a chaotic fever dream. Something about it captures the way his whole life feels desperate and overwhelming, like something is deeply wrong and he knows it, but can't figure out what it is until after he's dead.

And on that note, Runningnose, all his schemes with Brokenstar, his whole story, I literally can imagine the animatic in my head to Snuff Out the Light, the villain song cut from Emperor's New Groove. I can see the ENTIRE thing. God had to nerf me by preventing me from being able to focus on anything because the minute I can do one task for more than 30 minutes it's over for the entire world

Meaning:

We all know how obsessed the Lady is with her destiny. She literally died in a hurry defending it. We can say that there is nothing in her life except «destiny». This can be intropritised as being lost. 😃

The forest doesn't make much sense. It is here only because of the lyrics of the song, but the darkness make. In edit, I tried to show darkness as the bone-mech, but in fact I mean the darkness that will come if the Lady's destiny is fulfilled. Eternal cold, deathly silence and not a single living soul - this is darkness.

The heart of winter is almost the same. The cold and rough heart of the Lady is bound in ice by the desire to achieve the perfect world and the fulfillment of her destiny. The scene in edit shows that the Macaque has abandoned the «perfect world» as soon as I looked in and realized what its meaning was. I have already described what would happen if the Lady's destiny were fulfilled.

It's even more easier with Mystic Mayor than with Lady Bone Demon, because we were directly shown that this man is possessed. In edit, I focused on this. (And the lines: «Lost yourself in your own skin» are my favorites, for which I did the whole edit ☺️☺️).

Mask. It's quite difficult because I'm not sure about the Macaque and his appearance. Sometime he has both eyes, sometime he doesn't. I've heard a lot of rumors that he uses a disguise(?). Therefore, disguise is the mask. It is unlikely that ordinary mortals will like to see a one-eyed, six-eared, half-dead monkey. Although it seems to me that there is nothing to be ashamed of. Macaque look good in any from.👍

With the last line, everything is pretty obvious, since the Lady gave the Macaque life (saved him from death(?)), therefore, she asks the question: «Are you satisfied with this life that you asked for so much?» Obviously, the question is rhetorical and she doesn't care. 😃 It's time to return the debt.

I like to consider this a classic Karadox song, thanks to an AMV that used this one with Melissa and Jesse’s versions of Kara and Brainy, and thankfully it fits Tomorrowverse Karadox really well too! Especially this part, I like to think it’s the tense part of the movie where Brainy is accused of being like the rest of his family and he apologizes to Kara and tells her how he really feels about her, as Mon-El reveals himself to be evil and it looks like the Brainiacs are going to take control of the Miracle Machine. I just love this song in general, and it’s always a Karadox song for me.

So this is a song I’ve started listening to more recently, I first heard it in a Tiktok and I think it would work well for any enemies to lovers style relationship. But it really does fit early Karadox here, when they’re competing against each other and going back and forth on everything, and you kind of get the vibe that they enjoy the fighting and the rivalry.

Oh man this is 100 percent the last part of the movie, where Kara is confronted with the Miracle Machine, and she talks to her mother for a minute before she and Brainy send the machine to another universe and she turns around and sees the real Brainy standing behind her. Also of course the mention of the pod, Krypton exploding and Kara being sent off alone vibes, etc.

So I did see someone made an AMV that included this version of Kara and Brainy with this song, and I think it works! I think in any universe, Brainy falls for Kara, and that’s just true facts.

Another song I’ve really enjoyed recently, I just think it kind of has Brainy vibes? Like generally fits his perspective and how he feels about himself. This is more about vibes than anything, but again the “apocalypse” part suits the end of the movie, and the “every lover” line works for this version of Kara and Brainy.

This one is definitely Kara’s point of view for me, again I heard this one in a Tiktok and I think it fits for her perspective in the earlier parts of the movie and how she wants to prove herself to Brainy and do better at him than everything, and them being antagonistic towards each other.

Another classic Karadox song that I also associate with Melissa and Jesse’s versions of Kara and Brainy, this one definitely fits the middle to end parts of the movie when Brainy is accused of murdering one of Triplicate Girl’s selves and Kara defends him/tells him that she believes him when everyone else thinks he’s lying, and from then on they start to really support one another and it’s just the best. I love this song and it’s pitch-perfect Karadox, bye.

Another song I’ve listened to a lot recently, I just think it’s a bop and that it could fit Brainy a lot in this movie, again when people see him as a villain because they think he’s like his family.

Okay, so this one was suggested by my friend Rosie, and it’s actually so perfect? Like I’m more of a casual Swiftie than anything, I do like several of her songs, but haven’t listened to all of her albums all the way through. However, this one fits so exactly well from Kara’s point of view, and her perspective on Brainy when he gets blamed for something he didn’t do, and maybe her realizing how she really feels about him in the process.

This one was in one of my friend Brandi’s Tiktoks, and it’s another really good Kara song! Especially at the beginning of the movie, before she goes to the future to train with the Legion, and leading into her relationship with Brainy and how they support each other.

Again, from one of Brandi’s Tiktoks, this one strikes me as another “Brainy falls for Kara instantly” kind of song, with her coming in and disrupting all of his plans and everything, and maybe that’s okay. I always love when I find songs with sun imagery to connect to Kara because Kryptonians are powered by the sun/Rao/etc., it just works perfectly. Also I like that the word “tomorrow” is in this song because this movie is a part of the Tomorrowverse, y’know.

When I Kissed the Teacher (ABBA):

Another song suggested by Brandi and I think one that came from their Tiktok, I just like to imagine Brainy and Kara after they get together actually kissing in front of the Legion and them partially expecting it but also having no idea what to think because they were just at each other’s throats. Also this does fit that montage towards the beginning of the movie where they were competing, and Kara wanting to “teach him a lesson” in that sense.

Another song from Brainy’s perspective and another from Brandi, I think that it’s really fun how quickly Kara and Brainy fall for each other and especially how Kara changes Brainy’s perspective and he’s thrown off by it, but accepts it and accepts her, and she accepts him right back.

I think this one is the quintessential “enemies to lovers”/ “people in a relationship who always fight” song and again it doesn’t quite fit because it depicts them as already being in a relationship when they are fighting, but I do like it as a song and I think it does kind of work for the beginning of the movie, even if it fits very loosely and it’s more vibes than anything else.

A New Brain- I Fight Dragons

Another song I absolutely love (my top song of 2020 on Spotify, I think) and I’d say it definitely fits Kara, with her struggling to find her place after Krypton is destroyed and she wakes up on Earth, and her perspective early on, up until Clark shows her the time bubble and tells her about the Legion. And of course we know she does make a new start, and does find her place among people who accept her and make her feel like she belongs. It’s just a really nice thematic song for her, and of course the mention of Kansas and the Wizard of Oz references fit with Kansas being where Clark was found and the Wizard of Oz being Kara’s favorite movie in at least the TV show.

I think it would have been very fun/cute if we had gotten more scenes like the one towards the end of the movie where Kara and Brainy are found by some of the other Legion academy members, and they point out how much they’re flirting with each other, but this definitely fits that kind of scene and Kara starting to realize how she feels about Brainy even though he does frustrate her and of course he’s a Brainiac and she doesn’t trust him on instinct.

So this is another song I love, and there’s another song from this musical that I memorized the lyrics to as far back as 2017, but I hadn’t listened to it in a while but this song fits freakishly well for Karadox in this movie? Like, obviously, Kara distrusting Brainy because of his Brainiac connection, and him hating her right back, but also I think of the moment where Dawnstar tells Kara outright that nobody wants Brainy around, and the part where the senior Legion members discuss him at some point and say that they don’t trust him either. Kara and Brainy aren’t actually roommates here, and the beginning of the song where it’s spoken doesn’t really fit, but everything else does and I love it.

Listen, I just think that Brainy has Peridot vibes in general, and for this movie in particular he’s pre-redemption/during redemption Peridot, when she’s just getting used to being around Steven and the Gems, and I don’t think either Brainy or Kara is necessarily stuck on Earth, but that’s kind of the vibe with Kara not being able to go back to Krypton and Brainy probably not being treated great on Colu given his heritage. And of course, for both Peridot and Brainy, we know the climaxes of their emotional journeys, and both are great moments of catharsis. Also again I just love this song.
