Imo the best ending to Supernatural would have been to just stop with them alive on a random hunt or them finding jobs and living the life they just wanted or whatever.

And then the story just fucking STOP, because Chuck is not here anymore, so they are no longer part of a story they are finally free. And we could still write and read fanfic about how they live after they won.

Do you ever think about the fact that despite how self-sacrificing Jon is, how he would destroy himself a million times over to do what he considers to be the right thing, he sought out Martin and begged him to run away together?

He tried so hard to give himself a happy ending, even though it meant actively stepping away from "doing the right thing" (figuring out what the hell is going on and how to stop the end of the world, all that fun stuff)

If Martin hadn't laughed in his face, if he had agreed to run away, to be Jon's final chance at a truly happy ending, do you think they would've gotten that soft epilogue?
