Back to the Côte d’Azur. Nothing Changes Yet Everything Changes!

Yesterday, July, 9,2022, The Frenchman and I returned back to the States from two glorious weeks on the Côte d’Azur. Staying, once again, at the apartment in Theoule-Sur-Mer that we have rented since 2011. I’m missing this view already! Our exception years being when Oona got married, and Covid Lockdown. This was the first time back in 4 summers and it felt so damn good to be back.  Not much…

Theoule Sur Mer Vacation Home Rentals by Owner , It has been modernised internally to the highest standards, with Air Conditioning in all Bedrooms, oil fired central heating and with underfloor heating in the bathrooms and main bedroom.The ground floor consists of a Sitting Room, with French doors leading to a terrace.

"Memories of Sorrow"

The one seeing the memory has an aerial view.

A roof. A building of various businesses, including a bakery. Theoule-sur-Mer, France. Early, fading night.

A man in a grey t-shirt, jeans, and a light purple apron runs up out of the stairwell, closing the door behind him as quietly as he can. He curls behind the air ventilation shaft, breathing hard. One hand fumbles inside the cuff of his jeans, and pulls out a knife.

A woman comes up through the stairwell, out of view of the man. She wears the same apron he does, over a soft yellow dress. Her face is concerned, one hand resting slightly on her stomach. She steps towards the air shaft, searching the roof.

Her shadow falls into his field of view, dark and blurry.His hand tightens on the knife.

A lunge, and he stabs her right through the chest, eyes hazed with fear and survival instinct. They clear, and fill with realization and despair.“Luce?” His voice quivers.

She coughs, and her apron is speckled with red.

The knife is pulled out, and he pulls them both to the ground, pressing both hands to the wound, panicking. It can’t be. It can’t.

She reaches up a hand, tracing it along the edge of his jaw. She’s crying. He’s crying.

As her hand falls, limp, something bounces off of it, rolling across the roof. The man sobs over her, cradling the body against his chest, arms wrapped around her, still pressed to the wound. Something on one of his hands glints gently in the moonlight, until the blood covers it.
