Phase 1 : Trans-Canonical Diagram
Palais Bulles (Bubble Palace) located in Théoule-sur-Mer, near Cannes, France.  Designed by avant-garde Hungarian architect Antti Lovag and built from 1975–1989, Cardin’s 8,500 square-meter property is a life form lying sprawled in the sun of the Mediterranean coastline. The exterior of the 28 round rooms is sandy brown colored concrete, bumpy with skylights, of course also circular, scattered like lunar bulges. The skeleton of the cave-inspired villa is made of lightweight mesh and rods.
However, Antti Lovag didn’t claim himself as an architect, he claimed himself as a ‘habitologist’. Habitology is the studies that define the relationship between architecture and nature, in this case, human nature.
Antti Lovag questioning the movement during preparation of a meal in rectangular room. The movement in the room is a bit uncomfortable. So this is why Antti Lovag started working on habitology by questioning the real needs of architecture. He use the body as an axis, in reference to vitruvian man. The body moves in circular way in every movement. So the interior space is structured as a round form to make human can move harmoniously. The exterior is the translation of the interior, creating this curved shape house.
Respect for the site is one of the issue that make Palais Bulles being like this. Theoule-sur-mer’s landscape is a cliff that faces Mediterenean sea. So the reason why Palais Bulles is layered in a slope is because they aren’t digging the ground, they laid on the side of the ground. In the past, this area had a volcano, the rocks became flamboyant rocks (red rocks). The exterior colour refers to this local stone.
Antti Lovag also try to establish a continuity between inside and outside by using a window. The window allows ventilation, outward projection, especially natural light. According to the sun projection in Theoule-sur-Mer, the window allows the natural light in all daytime. For example, in the evening in winter, the sun projects at 264 degree west, this room allows the sunlight in the evening through winter. In summer, the room prevents sunlight by the wall.
He also optimise the space by removing the useless. Using the round shape as an ideal to find a right corner to be useful. This issue makes Antti Lovag’s furniture to be ‘mobile’. For example, the dining room in Palais Bulles is adjoined to the kitchen by rotating the dining table to the kitchen and rotatinh back to dining space to allow more convenient for everyday use. Dining space also can evolve on the terrace to enjoy the  fantastic view while eating.
Tumblr media
Pierre Cardin bought this iconic house in 1992. He claim that villa’s amorphous architecture seems made for him. The space age design of a house is similar to his design style. Space age design is a design that radically transformed future. Mostly, emulated  an aerodynamic simplicity and space capsule. The space age design also refers to futuristic, that is why Pierre Cardin’s design look weird. However, he makes the dress to be Prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear) and Haute Couture(a dress that design with weird style to be talk of the town and cannot wear in daily life). Using a body as a structure to hang the cloth on the body. And using the rigid frame to make some of dress be in unique form. To make the cloth being futuristic, the materials used in the cloth are also unique. Vinyl firstly use to make a rain coat and umbrella due to its waterproof ability. In 1960, Vinyl-coated fabrics not only gave a new surface appeal to their designs, but lent a modern structural look to the designers' new vision of architectural shapes rather than fluid draped lines. Modern clean-lined geometric shapes characterized their designs. Garments were cut to suggest simple geometric forms, boxy with hard edges, angular straight lines, or circular in shape. In compare with vinyl, plastic are also use as a fashion fabric. With the same property as vinyl and cheaper price, plastic are mostly use in fashion industry. Transparent fabric is also use in pierre cardin’s fashion in nowadays. With the light weight of fabric, he likely to use transparent fabric with rigid frame.
Lastly, the furniture that he design : working chair, relaxed chair, and sofas. I compared it with the dimension from neufert data. I see that the design is harmoniously support the body scale but doesn’t leave Pierre Cardin’s unique style. The curver friendly support the body when lay down on the furniture.  Possible furniture for me in my opinion is relaxed chair and sofa in the third row  because when compare with other furniture when you sit in relaxed chair you can not only sit but can also lounge with the exaggerate space of furniture. The sofa, it has the support for your back and you can free your leg in relaxed direction.

My favourite cote d'Azur restaurants on the beach
Restaurants are a difficult subject to tackle as firstly it takes some doing to dine in enough of them to compare fairly, secondly you need a certain palette too (I confess mine is only average) and also it is such a matter of individual taste and of course budget. So I'm not going to pretend that I can select a top 5 but having eaten in hundreds of restaurants (mainly due to work) all over France and Europe I think I can give a reasonable recommendation and so I would like to share my favourite beachside restaurants in the Cote d'Azur as they do offer one of the great pleasures of living in and visiting this bountiful region.
“If I ever own a restaurant, I will never allow the waiters to ask if the diners like their dishes. Particularly when they're talking”.
- Orson Welles
Marco Polo, Theoule Sur Mer

Marco Polo, Theoule Sur Mer with the snow-capped Alps in the distance
The Marco Polo in Theoule Sur Mer became one of my early favourites when I started gradually to spend more and more time living in Grasse. I used to pass it on the occasional day when I would treat myself to a morning off work snorkelling by the point. Then when the Villas du Monde / Villas Worldwide staff came over to visit properties in the area we went to eat there and went back for more. It was so nice to sit with one's feet in the sand (not all the tables are like that) and eat delicious fresh fish overlooking the beautiful sea with the start of the red Esterel mountains as a backdrop on one side and the bay of Cannes and the Alps on the other. Reasonably priced too. NOTE: the Marco Polo has actually been demolished to comply with recent laws, however, it is being re-built in a compliant manner and will be run once again by the existing owners. We passed by there last week (October 2017) and it was strange to see it flattened with just a big potted palm tree left as a reminder. We saw it when it got flooded recently so the project is understandable.
Les Canaris, Saint Clair
Tumblr media
The “littoral” path from Le Lavandou to Saint Clair beach on a windy day
A few years ago we started spending the occasional night in Le Lavandou mainly so that we could cycle along the gorgeous cycle track which runs along the old coastal train line towards Le Rayol. One of my French wife's work friends has an apartment in neighbouring Bormes Les Mimosa and on Mondays she is often full of how she went walking around the Cap Benat or cycling along the coast or eating in the Bistro on the port, so we gradually got sucked into going there and found we rather like it. There is an amazing walk along the coast from Le Lavandou over the rocks to the next beach and beyond, we strolled for about half an hour there and back finally stopping for lunch at this place, Les Canaris on Saint Clair beach, which was great for simple reasonably priced delicious fresh food and wonderful uninterrupted views of the bay. There was another good beach place we found near there a couple of years ago but I discovered it's shut now, such is the nature of some of these on the beach restaurants, they come and go.
Chrystal beach, Cannes
Tumblr media
Views from Cannes Chrystal beach restaurant
We have both enjoyed the occasional jaunt to the Forville market in Cannes which is something of a feast for the eyes with the stalls of beautifully arranged fresh fruit and vegetables, the colourful flowers at one end and the smells of olives, herbs, cheeses and charcuterie too. Then we started to refine it, following the example of the locals and enjoying a glass of wine and nibbles in the nearby surprisingly reasonably priced wine bar with outdoor street terrace followed by a meal at the Cannes Chrystal beach restaurant which is just a short walk, also good value as long as you don't get carried away. In the winter months, it is easy to get a table at lunchtime though obviously, it's not the same in the summer.
Tumblr media
A little bonus is you can have a coffee on a sun lounger on the beach with the seagulls after your meal.
Les Sablettes, Saint-Raphaël
Tumblr media
Folk having fun on and above the water at Saint-Raphaël
We often like to just have a pizza, but my French wife like's a decent one so we have done a fair bit of sussing out the good ones with a proper wood oven and Les Sablettes in Saint-Raphaël is now a regular lunch spot on the market day. Our preference is to park in Fréjus and walk along the promenade (I guess it's a couple of kilometres) and enjoy the open-air market which stretches all along the front to Saint Raphael and there, just before the port, when we don't feel like taking another step there is this rather inviting, decent value restaurant right on the beach which sometimes does a fair mussels and chips too. The views are fantastic and you can be entertained by the boats coming and going on the water. A good walk back extended along as far as the kitesurfing beach by Fréjus base nature helps the digestion and there's a lovely sandy beach too. It can get pretty busy so you need to get there in good time and it helps if you like that sort of fairly lively place.

The legendary Club 55 on Pampelonne beach
On my list of places to try is the legendary Club 55 on Pampelonne beach near Saint Tropez, but I'm both saving up and saving it for an extra special occasion. With luck, I'll add my opinion of it here one day.
Hopefully, you can come and visit soon and try some of these places too.
Best wishes
Peter H.
