Why is he like this, why is he such a freak, who gave him the right to act like this
#andor spoilers#these were originally just gonna be gifs cause i was so taken aback by these moments#but the way he talks is also essential to the derangedness of these moments#and then his cape at the end SAJHEDFKKKF makes it even crazier TO ME#there's something so full circle about how hes the one in s2e1 to set her on this course of further fucked up behavior#like yeah she was already fucked up before with her pursuit of axis BUT STILL. he put her on ghorman#and then hes here at the very end to send her to her doom. wasn't it literally called the 'imperial death march'?#but god yeah compare their interactions in s2e1 to THIS. the progression man....maybe i should gif that too !#both of their characters but also the situation at hand#went from being in a super secret meeting in this very scenic dramatic setting. all buttoned up. all professional.#to him literally physically attacking her and yelling at her#the first meeting was literally about the importance of secrecy and now here he is back again to punish her for failing at that EXACT THING#like i said it was funny just seeing his cape cause youre instantly like OH MY GOD ITS KRENNIC#all his appearances were so good hes just so.....yeah.#but yeah idk something about how he set her on this course with ghorman and her story ends with him throwing her away ugh man#and like i said their first(only?) meeting was so detached so formal so it makes him using force on her like this even more visceral#orson krennic#star wars#andor#sw#dedra meero

As much as I adore conlangs, I really like how the Imperial Radch books handle language. The book is entirely in English but you're constantly aware that you're reading a "translation," both of the Radchaai language Breq speaks as default, and also the various other languages she encounters. We don't hear the words but we hear her fretting about terms of address (the beloathed gendering on Nilt) and concepts that do or don't translate (Awn switching out of Radchaai when she needs a language where "citizen," "civilized," and "Radchaai person" aren't all the same word) and noting people's registers and accents. The snatches of lyrics we hear don't scan or rhyme--even, and this is what sells it to me, the real-world songs with English lyrics, which get the same "literal translation" style as everything else--because we aren't hearing the actual words, we're hearing Breq's understanding of what they mean. I think it's a cool way to acknowledge linguistic complexity and some of the difficulties of multilingual/multicultural communication, which of course becomes a larger theme when we get to the plot with the Presgar Translators.
#imperial radch#also a great example of the 'you don't have to be Tolkien' phenomenon#if you want to think about linguistic differences by building all the languages in your setting#and being able to explain what those differences are through actual texts in the language in question#that's AWESOME#but it's not the only way to do it#it's also interesting because of course this style only works in book form#everyone's speaking different languages but in a written account they're all 'translated' for you#but of course if it was a TV series they would all have to be speaking a language the audience understands#(or you *would* have to go wild with conlangs)#and i think that's really cool as well--#how for a series where song is so central we don't actually hear any of the actual in-universe words or any of the music#it's all been filtered#and again you know this is happening but seeing the examples of how real songs--the shape hymns and 'L'homme Arme'--are presented#makes you a lot more viscerally aware of how limited your perspective is#it's good#ann leckie i love you

dead things thee spuffy episode of all time btw. “are we having a conversation?” the balcony at the bronze. the handcuffs. out of this world by bush. buffy thinking she killed a human and actually dreaming about spike coming to her and comforting her. spike trying to stop her from turning herself in to the cops and her beating the shit out of him. “you always hurt the one you love.”
#its not a good situation but my god is it a situation!!!#unable to reconcile either way that she might feel like#if she feels love for him well thats bad and wrong cause he’s a soulless vampire#and if she doesnt feel love for him thats bad and wrong cause he loves her and shes using him#and its so!!!#like yeah!!! it IS rlly hard to have a more nuanced take of the world when you have to save it every night!!!#anyway. this episode really upping the romance but in a very dark and visceral way. and i eat it up.#really really difficult episode to watch in other ways tho. god.#btvs

There are naturally occurring tar pits if you wanted pre-gasoline omega marc to smell like a gasoline precursor, but they mostly smell like rotten eggs, which doesn't quite hit the same.
i think we can stick w gas or fire but it does make me laugh to think of how picky marc is canonically about how things smell (he likes ONE brand of fabric softener. ONE !) and how it would be for him to live in omegaverse hornysmell world. this divaaaa
#picky ass omega only likes certain scents gloms onto vale as a rookie bc of hero worship sure#but also maybe one of the first alpha smells he doesn’t viscerally hate so he’s like wow… my soulmate… and lucky for him he’s right but#motogp#callie speaks#asks#dovi also smells good i think and it challenges him in ways that are uncomfy for him but also GOOD for him !!!#anyways he’s so funny who gets soulbonded to fabric softener. he’s like a duck

I swear to god the renegade / you’re losing me/ so long London / fots / how did it end run of songs dealing with someone who is like ~that~ in very specific ways is so fucking goddamn accurate it hurts to listen to sometimes
#it’s so fucking visceral in a iykyk kind of way is all I’m saying#the specific breed of anger and passive aggression and and less passive aggression and resentment and blame shifting and and and#is so fucking accurate it’s like she’s in our walls#which is because it was within hers but I digress#and the whole not being able to call it out because they turn it back around and claim they’re the wronged party because of their illnesses#instead of understanding that they’re just being an asshole and firing missiles in their home#ANYWAY#like until you’ve spent days walking on eggshells in order to monitor someone else’s moods and triggers#and nothing ever quite being good enough not to make them#lash out#while also feeling deep empathy for their struggles and wanting to help#I don’t know that you can really understand the toll it takes on you consciously and unconsciously

day 100000 of me seeing a post about 'care/whumpers' and thinking 'that is literally just a whumper who is nice sometimes. you are literally just describing a whumper'
#trying to avoid it going into any tags for people who enjoy the concept#once again i am so viscerally uncomfortable with the way people talk abt this...#idk. trope. archetype. whatever. like that's just a whumper#who isn't beating the fuck outta whumpee 24/7#since when does whumper exclude someone who has 'good intentions'#or is nice sometimes#or thinks they're doing what's best#that's like- idk. it's very...#there is a way this community uses this term that is so heavily abuse apologistic that it's#very very uncomfortable and alarming for me as an abuse survivor#what about any kind of care meaningfully makes the abuse inflicted not abuse#or less abuse or more of a 'grey area'#go on i'll wait#gav gab#it's not like 'intimate whumper' or 'scientist whumper' or whatever#it's not an adjective modifying whumper#it is posited as a distinctly separate thing#from both whumper and caretaker as situaitonal roles#and the only thing differentiating it as far as i can see#is they're Nice Sometimes#or they don't MEAN to do the harm they do#and it's like. idk#saying that makes them somehow partially a caretaker#who are may i remind not Perfect People Who Never Do Wrong#but are a narrative role within a situation that is set contrary to the harm caused#is like#that's really really disturbing to me and says some frightening things about how people using the term may see abuse#fiction is not reality blah blah i know#but the way this is framed and approached#speaks to some unconscious biases about abuse

watching this magiccon bg3 game Aabria DM'd and first of all she's amazing as always but second of all, Wyll hearing the hand speak to him with the intention of bargaining and his reaction being to immediately throw it as far away as possible was so good I love you Theo
#like that reaction of visceral fear and determination to get the source as far away from both his friends and himself as quickly as possible#was so good#and getting an 18 to throw it 80ft away was perfect#I am also appreciative of neil (as vecna) recognising that the only way to appeal to Wyll would be to say it could help save his friends#rather than just grant him more power for himself#still so proud of Wyll for tossing that thank you Theo

I should start sharing my NSR ideas/research that’s gone into DJSS specifically because I love looking into it soooo much and I used to ramble about characters ALLL THE TIME on my Instagram stories but the previous year or two I had gone completely quiet… that must change because I am so so passionate about this space DJ it’s not even FUNNY
#my related issues that are similar to DJs in purpose & creation is smth so visceral#exploration of my favourite characters has always been done out of a need of understanding stuff within myself and they are no exception#there’s so so many ways to look at NSR characters that feel so three dimensional and real and ofc relate to real world history in music#in all aspects#I love music too much for my own good#everything I’ve done lately creativity wise has been for her….#having a character like DJSS in games creates an immense appreciation for music history and discovering the black artists that paved the way#for everyone#I’ve learned so much through this game and it makes my heart swell#I am not an emotional person. but this kind of stuff strikes smth deep within me#and again. probably related to that human creation and existentialism thing#for what I can’t put into words#I put into my art tenfold#I LOVE THAT WOMAN

Regarding your cerebrocrustacean headcanons mentioned in the previous ask: they very well could be somewhat canon given how, when asked if Albedo and Dr. Psychobos would be willing to work together, Derrick J. Wyatt responded with "Psychobos seems like a total team up slut, he'll team up with any villain any time" (his words, not mine).
Which he likely meant in the sense of "Psychobos is so power-hungry he'll team up with anyone in order to get ahead", but with your headcanons and the fact he never talks much about his personal life in mind, you could alternatively interpret it as "Psychobos is so desperately lonely he'll accept anyone he has even the slightest similarity with into his clique, even members of a species he's violently xenophobic towards" (probably to cope with/serve as a rebound for his mancrush Azmuth friendzoning him /lh /hj).
Now all of this is making me realize that it was a massive missed opportunity in Omniverse to not have Psychobos' demeanor do a complete 180 around the people he works with compared to everyone else (whether sincere or a thinly-veiled manipulation tactic) if not solely for a few jokes. Especially him acting like an affectionate father figure towards Malware (whether he likes it or not) solely so he can rub it in Azmuth's face that "I'm a FAR more attentive and caring parental figure towards your creation than YOU ever were, and I use the term loosely".
WHAT DO YOU MEAN DJW SAID 'TEAM UP SLUT' HAHAH WHAT!? dear god it's true it's on the wiki what the fuck what the fuck assdfjhghsdlfkgfkl-!
I mean, look at his already canon group; Khyber, allegedly the greatest huntsman in the galaxy, teaming up with Dr Psychobos to make a little watch that can sample (specifically predatory) animals; and Malware, a technology absorbing mutant mechamorph, working with the cybernetically enhanced (also listed as a mutant???) cerebrocrustacean in order to make said watch- if liking the concept of animals and incorporating machines as part of oneself is enough to get into Dr Psychobos' clique well, he's certainly stretched what that means far enough to at least snag two others into his initial team up. Same can't be said for Attea and the incurseans which seems to be more of a sponsor type relationship, and Maltruant commissioned him to repair his body but violated the trade agreement so whether or not Psychobos would do business with the incurseans again, he's already squarely sequestered Maltruant in the outest of out-groups :P
Hah, the 'Dr Psychobos adopting Malware specifically to stick it to Azmuth' bit reminded me of a signing-the-adoption-papers version of the 'I throw my used car batteries in the ocean' thing- something along the lines of; [psychobos voice] "You are the most calamitous individual I have had the pleasure of meeting, and I use the term loosely." [malware voice, threateningly] "I have devoured and absorbed the specs of the Omnitrix." [psychobos signing adoption papers] [malware, experiencing the affects of cerebrocrustacean in-grouping and having no frame of reference on how to deal with it] "What the fuck is happening-"
#ask#anonymous#dr psychobos#malware#malware ben 10#cerebrocrustacean#khyber is mentioned technically but like he's just there for clique demonstration#ben 10#heartbreaking: the worst person you know included you in his in-group and loves and respects you just because you shared one interest#i will draw this it's a visceral image it's just that it's not now because i am exhausted :P#does psychobos having an in-group suddenly make him a good person- no#does psychobos having an in-group that does not care about what species is in it make him a good person- also no#he's a jerk which severe xenophobia and like the encephalonus IV equivalent of like- sigmund freud#but also not freud because freud is a fraud that only became the father of psychology because psychologists around the world disavowed him#but like- an infamous figure which controversial opinions but ultimately- being so well known he is the face of the collective#that collective being cerebrocrustaceans as a whole because god damn it why did dr psychobos have to go for ben 10? for fucking azmuth!?#even assholes have in-groups it's kinda how assholes spread (well they can spread in other ways but that's not relevant to the current topi#i would be nice though if the allegedly greatest huntsman and the chronically unloved mutant experienced cerebrocrustacean in-group respect#khyber would be off-put as a solo one-man show (well there's also zed but he doesn't even gender her right let alone treat her well)#malware would be so inexperienced with interactions even slightly positive he'd kinda mostly be too stunned to do anything but stand silent#dr psychobos as per usual talks and talks as if bouncing back against a wall (because really he might as well be)#but so long as his treatment towards his in-group keeps them around longer (with the bonus of not getting stabbed in the back hopefully)#then far be it from he to complain whenever his fellows come back with their parts of his little pet project

I don't know if it's the fresh blanket of snow on everything or the beginning of the new year that's just making me wax philosophical on this sleepy Saturday or whatever, but keeping on with the theme of how comforting it is that Taylor's music is so relatable and resonant for such a wide spectrum of emotions and experiences, I think one of the things I'm increasingly grateful for is how well she captures these moments writing in a "IYKYK" kind of way. Up until recent years she was rarely explicit about them, but even in her metaphor and poetry she perfectly encapsulates these experiences.
There have been so many lyrics that I've heard and on first listen I've thought, I feel this in my bones because I've lived it, and I'm so grateful that she has written something that speaks to it. And it's why I have so, so much empathy for her and am so happy she finds her own comfort in her writing as a way to get through them.
#like this morning i'm thinking of 'living in the shade of how he was feeling' and I know EXACTLY what that feels like#and the way that absolutely consumes your every waking thought when you're under the same roof and beyond#and why i have so so so so so much empathy for what she went through in the last few years#because when things are good for a spell and then you pick up on the slightest change of tone of the voice and you know#the bad spell is about to come back and you're going to be running for cover#idk I'm not trying to project or whatever but I'm just using it as an example#there are so many songs that are just like... visceral#this was sparked from some lovely convos both on main and in private lately#yes this is about my [redacted] issues lmao#like when resentment and bitterness and meanness are your default reactions to everything... oof#and one person's struggles and preferences are prioritized above all else because of either stubborness or fear of the fallout... oof#and I know so many people feel the same way about many other things in her discography#and i just feel like that's so so so special#to feel seen and heard and understood etc

Made it into old yharnam!
Cathedral ward is pretty blocked off for now, I've got just enough leg room to run about and grind the enemies but that's about it. Met Alfred!! He's got a way smoother voice than I remember, but knowing what I do of him gives me the creeps. Helpful enough though - I can summon him at the entrance of the blood starved beasts church.
The funny thing about playing this game with great general knowledge of it is that I recognise many rooms and important locations, but I don't know where on earth those places are, so I'm still stumbling blindly onto them. There's a lot of stuff I know, surface level, like the history of Queen yharnam and the vile bloods and the healing church, but I'm uncovering a lot of smaller stuff that adds to the richness of the world.
The gatling sniper on the tower uses a boom weapon, which means he's a (remnant?) member of the crazy explosion sect of hunters. And I can't put it into words, but I feel like that makes sense with the heavy and thankless duty he has taken on, almost sacrificing himself to protect and guard the quarantined community of old yharnam where no one else would stand for them. Something about the bull headed determination despite what society might say, a deeply emotional morality and a lifetime among monsters and men.
Like I would not make it as a hunter because I read the sign and was like 'welp none of my business let's turn back' but unfortunately that's the only way to progress!
Old yharnam is pleasingly vertical, very easy to get around despite being very disorienting. I don't know how they managed to make an 'old town' area in the gothic cobblestone wet dream of an old town but they did it and they did it WELL.
I did get stuck on getting the messenger bandages in that one corner of the beast church like seven/eight times (why so harrrrrd) but I only died twice to the frenzied mob of parishioners, so, win! I felt so bad each time, though, like I'm not here to kill anyone I just want to loot the place (and interrogate the sniper) I'll be on my way! Their singing was almost nice, shame they kept spotting me (how?!) and starting up those awful screeches. And then they chased me to the ends of the earth!!! Glowing red eyes!! Very scary!!!!
I've reached the blood starved beast so far, but I know that she's a tough one (and FAST, killed me quick) so I'm going to grind the new areas and crank up the levels. Learn my way around them like I know central like the back of my hand. I'm really good at parrying to visceral (thank you zelda breath of the wild) but bullets are SO EXPENSIVE. WHY.
#Ngl I am proud of my ability to parry it always feels so good to pull off#This is my first souls like game and certainly the first with proper builds and level ups (normally it's the pokemon doing that lol)#So I think I'm doing pretty well!! Very fun.#The grave keepers (stave and purple lantern guys) scared me at the start but they're such push overs lol so easy to visceral first try#Cathedral ward is interesting because it reminds me of fog canyon from hollow knight#It's really interesting to see its inspirations in reverse. I already was used to the shade mechanic (blood echoes retrieved)#But yeah fog canyon starts off as a very limited area that guides you to the next area but as you unlock more paths it blooms into this#Huge biome that almost acts like a shortcut hub to most anywhere because it's so central on the map. And it eventually has#The last piece of the key needed to the end. And that reminds me a lot of cathedral ward.#Very good game design I like it#I can parry werewolves and giants and grave keepers and townsfolks almost 100% of the time! It's so handy!!#Definitely developing the gun further in my build it's way too useful I JUST WISH BULLETS WERE CHEAPER#bloodborne

#happy fourth of july#liberty’s kids#this show is I swear one of the most nuanced takes on the American revolution#doesn’t shy away from the heartache and loss#and makes me hopeful about being an American#I wouldn’t say proud at this juncture#but hopeful is a good place to be anywhere and anytime#because it’s a trend towards the good while admitting that where you are is not where you’d like to be#also this show fucking slaps because the guest stars are off the charts#like the tar and feathers episode was VISCERAL as a child#and also being a kid and not knowing who Benedict Arnold was??#I felt as BETRAYED as Sarah (and I assume everyone else alive then) felt when he turned coat#like the way they made this show and these events so accessible to CHILDREN ON PBS is still astounding to my brain#and the one thing everyone can agree on is obvs G Wash was a stud

I never get tired of watching The Disaster/The Rerun. Television peaked here, I'm not even kidding.
#the amazing world of gumball#part of what makes it so good is the four seasons of build-up#yeah you can understand it just fine as a cool season finale without all of that#but there's no way to fully appreciate this two parter without four seasons worth of context#even just how JARRING it is tonally compared to every other episode#tawog is bright and colorful and wacky and characters sing songs and everything's always okay after eleven minutes#so it's JAW DROPPING when a villain character just starts ruthlessly tearing apart the main cast#seriously!! I'm not even a kid and I'm always glued to the screen when Rob murders Darwin#there's something so visceral about the way darwin chokes and gags and collapses before going still and silent#and the horror and rage on gumball's face after...... CHILLS MAN!!#if the movie captures even a FRACTION of this energy I will be so happy
