i CANNOT beleive that joel, mr. smallbean himself, showcased an audio clip of a band he was in???? in one of his hermitcraft videos and NOBODY is talking about it. i vaguely remember him mentioning playing drums before, but i've never actually heard him play??? especially not in a band????? please can we talk about this.

There was something about other artists that always evoked an intense interest within him, they had a proclivity for etching their lives many tribulations within the minute canvas between delicate lines & exquisite hues. When someone knew where to set their gazes, how to differentiate aesthetics from the raw & wild emotions that guided an artist’s metaphoric brush, they would realize every single experience harbored within them became a defining factor in their works. Zed’s encompassing style had leaned towards severe dark lines & geometric forms, after his apprenticeship he had begun incorporating other starkly different techniques into his work. The intricate, fine lines that flourished into the flowers that sat at the peripherals of the main piece stretching across his broad shoulders would have been an infuriating challenge when he launched into tattooing but, by the time he was done the satisfaction of accomplishment had been unlike anything else. It’s these sorts of sentiments that make him recognize the effort Kaveh puts into his work, be it casually indulged or diligently worked upon, catering to even the most insufferable clients. Even if others could cast a perfunctory glance over art & be impressed or moved it took an artist’s discerning gaze to truly appreciate what it took to execute what they did.  

“ It all begins as a hobby,” atleast it had for him, the initial sketch that had caught any sort of attention being scrawled in a tattered leather notebook he’d carried around to idly note down lyrics in between gigs. At the time, he had deluded himself into thinking it was the coolest thing ever designed, even his slightly inebriated bandmates had been enthusiastic about making it their logo. It really only took that one moment to commence a cosmic shift in his otherwise restrictive world. Once he stepped off the stage, the thunderous striking of the drums still echoing through him, the sweat plastering white hair to his brow & glistening, he had wanted to pry those pages back open & set to work, not waste time tuning his guitar for the next set. Even if that time in his life had tasted of acrid smoke & stomach bile, his mind a whirring cacophony of chaos, it had allowed him to step into the next part of his life with a forming talent & the confidence to back it up. If Zed encountered any up & coming artists now, unsure of their work or when their individual style might develop, he made sure to be a vehement, encouraging force. All it took was one person believing in what someone could do to kindle that spark, eventually, it could become the most spectacular of flames.

“ See, most people would be convinced it doesn’t take real art to design a building, but those sort are generally idiots, giving them the time of day is an actual waste of your time.” He could have air quoted real & emphasized it but the indignation he felt was almost palpable. Even within the ranks of artistry there would always be those who segregated art forms from one another, the devotion to realism above the liberation of abstract art, tattoo art below traditional paintings. As ruthless as the music industry was, the world of artists was just as merciless. He had definitely had a number of haughty artists look upon his work with disdain & he had been very prompt at giving them an uncensored piece of his mind. It was safe to say that they felt far more unscathed when they kept to their own lane & didn’t try to dictate what art could actually consist of. Being stubborn & a bit of a bastard wasn’t a terrible trait when you were dealing with their sort.  “ Knowing what your work is worth & standing by that is crucial, they should be paying even more than that.” Maybe he was also bitter but they deserved it. 

As Kaveh continued to gaze into his phone, awe evinced in both his glittering gaze & his tone, a sense of pride swells within him, the sort that has his lips curving at the corners. “ I did, it was the first work my mentor approved of enough to see inked by their hand, a reward, or something like that,” Kaveh settles his mug on the table & hurries off to procure his sketchbook, the enthusiasm in his step is enough for even this new-comer to feel a sense of fondness for him. As he sets it before Zed long, lithe fingers brush against the hard corner with a sense of reverence before gingerly opening it. Leaving it open on the first, crisp page for a moment he nudges his phone in the other’s direction. “ Scroll right, that folder is my work after that, sketches & final works on my clients.” His dark eyes flit up, taking in the other’s smile & anticipation before turning to the next page. There was an interesting correlation between the fastidious care Kaveh dedicated to his architecture that Zed could see in his other works. “ If you ever want to quit dealing with pretentious assholes you could make a living off your art if this is what you’re creating as a hobby,” It was almost sad to see the potential of an artists confined to the practicality of construction but, if he could integrate this into the facades of buildings there was hope for the vapid gray of office buildings to be found yet. “ Next time I’m thinking of doing some renovations on the shop I’ll have to see to it that you’re the one heading the operation,” praise offered to the other who was still cradling his phone & traversing the last years worth of tattoos he’d sketched out or inked on clients. “ If you want to see it properly I can show you, I don’t usually undress during first meetings but the photo doesn’t do it justice.” He’s talking about the work his mentor had done on his back, which when seen moving fluently with the contours of his muscular back were far more impressive than anything a snapshot could portray. 

"don't you know it. i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw this place listed as looking for roommates. a high rise penthouse at an affordable price. the offer looked too good to be true." kaveh had still reached out to who he now knows as yasuo, wondering if the listing was a scam or not. he had quickly learned that the wonderful offering was true, and he had quickly picked out his room, not wanting to refuse lest the man changed his mind about having someone as kaveh as a roommate. there was an inkling, then, if there would be something fishy. if another shoe would drop. and it had, in the form of yasuo's hands all over his body. a wonderful trade off, kaveh thinks fondly, even when he feels like yasuo is going to drain him dry at times, and not in the financial way. finding this place had been a blessing in more than one ways, and he owes it to yasuo. had it not been for the man he has come to call a boyfriend, then kaveh does not know where he would be, he does not know if he would have ever been able to pick himself back up from poverty and push himself to having the financial stability he has today.

"thank you, it's been my passion since a young age. my mother was a well renowned architect, and my interest grew from sitting next to her as she crafted blueprints out of thin air. i was fascinated. i would not dare to think that i have reached the threshold that she had risen to, but i would like to think that i am rather decent at my work." kaveh nods his head, seeing and knowing the frustrations of arguing with clients all too well. "it is a struggle indeed to get the know-it-all customer. those who will nitpick at every single detail within a construct are so bizzare to me when it is clear they know nothing of having a stable structure. i used to create so many drafts just for one client because they could not agree with the design, or they would constantly change the materials that they wanted to use. it had rankled me, and it had been part of the reason why i needed to find a place to stay. i would always go above and beyond for my clients, and they would often take advantage of that. my funds and time would be drained away. now, after thinking long and hard, i charge extra for creating extra drafts. a fair trade off i think." this action has proven to be most useful for him. if he had realized how quick clients were to give him the full vision all at once and not dawdle while waiting for a draft to make changes, then he would have done so sooner.

the compliment sent his way throws him off, just a little, when he does not think of himself as impressive. "it's not much. just a hobby i picked up. i rather like drawing people." still, it brings him warmth to know that his skills are being appreciated. and for another artist to say such kind words to him, kaveh takes the compliment for what it is, knowing them to be a genuine regard for his craft. "oh, sure! i can go grab a sketchbook for you to take a look at. a lot of what i draw is merely for my own entertainment. but i can't say that my interest in artistry does not bleed into the constructs i design. while the structure being formidable is the main priority, i would be loathe for the building to be bad to look at. the beauty of a structure that will stand for perhaps longer than we will be alive can't be brushed aside."

kaveh leans forward as soon as zed pushes his phone his way, enraptured in the tattoo that takes up the screen. "you designed this?" kaveh says in awe. the piece is a gorgeous display of artistry, a design that looks so captivating as it is inked into skin. he finds that it is rather hard to pull his eyes away from the picture as he would love nothing more than to memorize each and every detail that makes up the ink work. that it is something that the man who sits in front of him had designed makes it all the more fascinating. "consider my interest piqued. this is simply captivating, and it would be my honor to see more of what you have designed. just," kaveh carefully sets his cup down on the table and stands. "let me go get my sketchbook first? that way, we can browse each other's works at the same time. i'll be quick, promise!" the enthusiasm kaveh feels to share his craft with another artist is unable to be concealed as he smiles merrily, quickly venturing off to grab his sketchbook from his room and returning back with haste. "here." he places the book in front of zed as he takes his seat, beckoning him to open it. "there's a lot of doodles, portraits, and even half finished blueprints for constructs that i have thought of and felt an itch to get it down on paper."

They should have dwelled more into Merlin’s skills (and I’m not talking about just magic)

As I rewatched Merlin, I realised this man has so many skills?!

We often talk about how surely Arthur must have thought him how to use a sword (I agree 100%) but Merlin also knows how to hunt?

He dislikes it, yet years and years of going hunting with Arthur proves to be fruitful. Merlin founds the deer in season four before the entire Camelot patrol. He knows how to recognise tracks on trees and traces of feet in the mud (he knows how to build them in the right way with magic, too). And I have proof that Arthur teaches Merlin, because in season five, Arthur makes Merlin see what was wrong with the branch. when they went out and Arthur noticed that someone (Mordred) had walked past the woods.

Also, season four, episode two? Merlin wakes up before Lancelot and HE IS HUNTING FISH LIKE A MASTER?!

Have we talked about this? Who taught him? I believe most things he already knew how to do, since he grew up in a village with a single mother where everyone had to fetch up for themselves.

He also knows how to cook. And he gets compliments (even if they are jokes) from the Knights and Arthur himself too.

HE IS A PHYSICIAN, and I wished we could have seen so much more of that, because he is hot, because it proves that is so good at learning, listening and also teaching. He tells Daegal how to get rid of the poison, poison, in his body and HE IS STILL SO HUMBLE ABOUT IT?! He spent more than ten years being an apprentice and when Daegal tells him he is a good physician, Merlin denies it?! Bro has low self esteem.

Merlin also has all the skills required from a servant, like sewing, cleaning specific fabric in a certain way, polishing armour and so many other things, adjusting swords and weapons ecc.

I guess it pisses me off when Merlin is described (heavily in fanfictions too) like an incapable manservant, unable to do things for himself or defend himself without magic, when he spent ten years in Camelot doing new work after new work. Just because he was scared at the end of season five without his powers (because he had never lost them before) it doesn’t mean Merlin isn’t capable of using a sword, or help himself, since he does and challenges Morgana too, even without powers.

EDIT:

Merlin also knows how to use a crossbow and how to fight side by side with Arthur and he knows where to head, where north and south are, based on the scent of the air?! Merlin knows so many things.
