Wait I mean this so genuinely is it bad if you're white and make your ink/octoling black for Aesthetic/OC reasons? My Inkling's been black sense Splat1 cause they were never gonna look like me anyway so I made them more to just look cool, and built an OC around them later. But is that bad?? Should I not be making player characters black if I, the player, am not black?

I mean this all very genuinely I'd never considered it was hurtful to do sense it was my game, my character, my rules to me.

as a Black person, it’s usually very clear to me when people are using Black player characters as an intimidation tactic or to be “funny,” and representing your Black splat oc doesn’t fall into that category

usually the racist players use the darkest skin tone with red eyes and either a racist nickname or a racist splashtag title (ex: Dark/Pitch-Black XYZ)

the tweet i was referring to was a video from a non-Black Japanese splat team where they showed their inklings and then themselves irl, and the whole darkest-skin-reddest-eyes thing was perfectly on display

there’s a difference between aesthetics and caricatures, and 90% of splat players never cross that line, but it’s important to be mindful of it anyway :)

the fanart nattie drew for me is from their c-support!! the gist of it is that xander's employing a similar punishment to soleil as he did to laslow for excessive flirting :3 but as they're working in xander's office, they both end up falling asleep, hence the little scene in the art <3

the rest of the support is about soleil lying through her teeth about how she totally isn't flirting anymore so she doesn't get in trouble again, and xander completely seeing through her lie and doing a dad-thing of trying to make her come clean herself instead of directly calling her out !!

I got into Anastasia in 2021 :( there's barely any fandom left and even those who write fanfiction for it don't even talk about it anymore!

Tell me everything!!!

okay so. to talk about the year two marketing campaign, we need to talk about year one first.

the year one campaign focused more on the ~journey~ aspect of the show. anya wears her iconic maroon traveling coat, facing away from the audience and generally faceless, very mysterious. who is she? where is she going? what is she looking for? it inspired questions actually relevant to the themes of the show. and, as good marketing does, it gives us just enough info to capture our attention while also leaving us wanting more.

this coat is what she wears on the posters, playbill covers, everywhere on the marquee. it's the same structure that carried onto every other production's marketing strategy. and it makes sense! because she's traveling! of course she wears a traveling coat. for her Journey.

was it a perfect strategy? no. do i get chills every time i read "rumor, legend mystery" on the marquee over our beautiful broadhurst?? absolutely.

now. year two. derek leaves in april 2018, and in may they film a new ad with the current cast.

but the whole marketing strategy completely changes as well. it now consists of basically just the Red Dress™ and digitally airbrushed christy smirking at the camera and otherwise provides very little information about what the show is actually about.

this is an aside, but i feel like i should mention that when they shot and filmed this campaign, they styled christy's actual hair. she's not wearing a wig! slay!!!!! she went live that day and zadkins did a takeover on the anastasiabway account, i remember she looked absolutely stunning and was excited as she always is.

but still. the success of your marketing strategy (or the whole show for that matter 💀) should not rest on this woman's shoulders, as lovely as she is.

so here's my beef with the Red Dress campaign: it's such a shallow interpretation of the show. even though the red dress is iconic and linda cho deserves the praise for it, i don't think it represents who anya is or what she's looking for at all. the stage version of anastasia isn't a rags to riches story, nor a princess story, not really. it's about a girl looking for who she was. home love family etc etc etc. the red dress represents a life she ultimately chose to abandon in the end! so by limiting the imagery to just this dress she wears only in the last few minutes of the show, casual audience members may interpret this show as Just Another Princess Story competing with frozen that had just opened literally across the street, and choose to not see it. which is exactly what happened.

@asecretshekept has written a lot about this and understands marketing more than i do, so feel free to browse her blog too for more detailed posts.

not to mention like,,,, the silly financial decisions behind this?? they spent so much money to replace the marquee and stage door with the faces of people who left the show like six months later?? and then they replaced the stage door AGAIN when cody arrived january 2019. so silly. they could've stuck with the generally faceless campaign of year one to avoid this issue, but. i'm not in charge.

i have a standard human au where its practically the same but they're humans.. until i put them in Situations >:)! i've written lots of notes, such as my headcannons on their nationalities and ages, as well as scenes, most of em being the penguins interacting with the zoosters/lemurs/circus crew bcoz i find that isn't explored very much

funnily enough though, the main human au i think about is actually a crossover au i came up with when i was watching another show at the same time as madagascar. its really wacky and its like one of those completely out of the blue ao3 crossover fics where you think "author i have no idea how you came up with this" but i hold it close to my heart for the found family potential i have for it! but its so , weird that i keep it to myself mainly lol. might post some scenes i've written for it someday though

so i don't have a fic idea for this one so much as this works in tandem with a fic idea i already have where eddie moves (it's only temporary but buck doesn't believe this) and buck reverts back to every single bad habit. he's throwing himself off buildings and running into fires without masks on shift then skipping out on the loft to hit up bars immediately after work and take a stranger into the bathroom. and he's killing himself really but nobody knows what to do. but then he gets caught in a structure collapse and calls eddie (i'd trade my tongue in just to hear him every night) and it goes to voicemail because eddie is also on shift and buck just kind of gives up. anyway cue bobby giving buck time off and he buys buck a plane ticket to go see eddie because what else is he to do? he's the only one that can help buck rn.

anyway he gets to el paso and eddie takes one look at him and he's just like. heartbroken. and cue like a scary level codependence. like 100x worse than normal. they cannot leave each other's sides. eddie calls out of work because he genuinely doesn't want buck out of his sight. but eventually buck has to go back to la and eddie drops him off at the airport and he won't let go of buck and he's like "buck, jesus, evan, how did you do this? how did you let me go? i can't. i don't want you to leave."

i looooooooooove clucking after him like a mother hen. i love washing and brushing and drying his hair, he looks so handsome when it droops over his face while it’s still a little damp. he sits right in between my legs and gets his shoulders and the back of his neck rubbed while he rubs my ankles and calves and it’s routine. we do this every single night!

sometimes he’ll work on paperwork at the same time and regale me with the Horrors of what he’s working on but most of the time we don’t discuss work. we discuss our lives and how they’ve changed since meeting each other. we giggle and laugh and plan. it’s pretty relaxed and sweet and one of my favorite things ever.

HELLO ! I LOVE QUESTIONS !!! (I’m very excitedly typing)

Pronouns - she/they! Lately one of my profs has been referring to me as “she” and … well … it doesn’t feel quite right, but for me personally I don’t care that much if people use she/her towards me. Sometimes I refer to myself as she and it’s totally good in the moment. Sometimes I don’t feel like a she. So she/they works!

Favorite Drink - I only really like water with my meals, or possibly green tea. I love sipping on sugary drinks when I crave that (i take very tiny sips and the drink lasts forever), but never ever do I drink anything like that with meals. I will also drink black tea with coffee creamer when I’m feeling like I need dopamine HAH. Drinking coffee or matcha unfortunately makes my body and brain feel wonky. I can’t focus and it’s like I’m in a state of numbing anxiety. Don’t like it. But l still, on occasion, will drink either.

Pet peeves - Mean people when existing near me. Narrow minded & judgmental people when existing near me. People who walk NEAR ME when they could walk further away, (I think I have a personal space need). People who reject others without engaging in discussion and critical thinking (a lesson for us all). When somebody isn’t emotionally intelligent and doesn’t try to be better. When somebody can’t break things down and explain a concept *and they’re a teacher* for fucks sake. When people don’t care about the wellbeing of kids and adolescents. When people don’t care about the wellbeing of another human regardless of age.

Talents - Yes, but the one I’m thinking about shall stay a secret because it’s not a very common skill and I don’t wanna give too much away. Other talents I can talk about… Well, many liberal arts teachers/professionals who meet me and get to know me more, say that I’d be a good psychologist. Oh. A talent I’ve had since I was little: understanding cats. HAHHA. (I was that weird kid who was lost in her own head when she was little, and I hissed at people)

What Got Me Into JJK - Honestly, the hype around JJK is what led me to it AND kept me sticking around. I was seeking something to cure my depression (anime won’t do that, but it can certainly help but you also have to get consistent sunlight, socialization, feed your mind, body, soul, too), and I kept hearing about Jujutsu Kaisen. So I thought WOW this must be a really good one! The thing is that for me, with most anime it takes time for me to feel hyped about it… even with AOT, and AOT is goated… So for JJK, while I laughed A LOT in season 1, I also just felt underwhelmed. I did stick around though, because the fandom kept showing up on my timeline, and it was nice to feel like I was a part of something (seeing everybody simp over characters made me wonder what there was to this show that I was possibly missing out on), because at the time I really wasn’t doing well. It’s embarrassing to admit but it wasn’t until I started talking about it and listening to other people talk when I started seeing the nuance to JJK, and I began to appreciate it. (Don’t watch anime while half asleep and expect to walk away with an understanding of what’s going on…) I also really wanted to understand what others saw in JJK for them to hype it up so much.

Relationship? - No. Do I want romance? Yeah. Will I let myself be in a relationship anytime soon? Highly unlikely. I’ve got a lot of healing & growing to do before I can be a good partner.

allergies? - hurtful people who do stupid things and have zero interest in anyone but themselves (not to say I don’t pity them or have sympathy and empathy for them. I do. But I’m also allergic to them). Oddly enough, I was genuinely allergic to a certain leafy green as a kid. Outgrew that though! thank god haha

Favorite colour - I can’t choose! They each have their own beautiful feel to them. If I had to choose, I’d say green :) with yellow undertones, not blue undertones, though that’s also very pretty (if you’re an artist or take a basic art class with colour involved, ykwim).

Barrell’s old but he always have the experience to move around sneakily without issue! He spooked phantom a few times before. Living with X,for years have its benefits!

Volnutt and Roll were the ones that BEGGED them to teach them ways of the ninja. They tried their best but stealth isn’t their strong suit, but at least they know how to move around a lil quicker to get some surprise attack!

Roll did accidentally stepped on his tail multiple times during training.

Volnutt can copy his shadow step ability with his variable weapon system
