The Harry Potter Replacement Project: Information Gathering Phase

I’m a queer author who grew up during the heyday of Pottermania. In the wake of JKR’s going mask-off terf, there’s been a large gap left in popular culture as people distance themselves from the series. I aim to change that by offering a series that has roughly the same vibe, but without the miasma of antisemitism, ableism, racism, and transphobia.

However! I always enjoyed the fandom more than the canon. I do not have the knowledge to write for the former HP audience. Therefore, I’ve made this survey so that I can gather responses from my intended audience and hopefully one day catch that lightning in a bottle for myself and the queer community.

To that end, please answer honestly and without shame. This form is anonymous. It is not to make fun of you or shame you for liking Harry Potter. This is just to eventually produce an alternative and hopefully fill the hole left by JKR’s betrayal.

This is a questionnaire about canon, not fanon. As much fun as fanon is and as many gaps as it fills, it’s not relevant here. Therefore, where possible, lean solely on canon interpretation and work.

Depending on how much time you put into your answers and what device you're writing on, this may take upwards of a couple hours. Carve out time for it or chip away at it piece by piece, either is fine! Please take care of yourself first, the form will be here later.

Kind of frustrates me when people point out the misogyny against even cis women inherent to TERF ideology as like, a "gotcha". It isn't a gotcha -- that's the whole point! TERFs are not feminists, that's a lie they're telling you to sell you on their world view. TERFs are a hate group trying to enforce and codify the gender binary and the line between men and woman as an immutable fact of natural because they hate trans women so much. They want to separate themselves from men because they cannot imagine a world where women are actually equal, because that's a biological impossibility, so instead they want a society absent of men that women can control and be safe in. They believe everyone with a penis must be a violent aggressor and everyone with a vagina must be a victim who needs protection. Which, of course, is fucking sexist. Stop thinking about terfs as feminists. Stop thinking that being a terf just means you hate men. You cannot stop terfs if you cannot recognize them. Get it together

Hey so I got chewed out and called a psyop on TikTok for trying to share this, but y’all need to be aware of a new TERF talking point.

Basically they’ve latched on to recent conversations about fighting back against rising rates of elective cosmetic surgeries (such as nose jobs, buccal fat removal, etc) and rising pressures to surgically “correct” features not associated with white femininity. They’re slowly starting to float the idea of banning or restricting cosmetic surgeries overall since they see it also as a way to restrict gender affirming operations.

It’s important to criticize doctors who market cosmetic surgeries as a way to “correct” not meeting beauty standards and pushing unsafe operations like rib removal. However, let’s not slip into denying trans folks access to healthcare and limiting the ability to get reconstructive surgeries.
