Nimbudala - Peace Rock - four longform meditative electro-acoustic jams (Inner Islands)
“Peace Rock” is Steve Targo’s second outing as Nimbudala, following last year’s “Universal Compassion”. He carries on with the intentions that inspired the Nimbudala project: looking less towards the natural world and more toward the human experience, widening the instrumental palette, and embracing a more diverse array of sonic influences. This work comes from a love and appreciation of Jazz, Kosmiche, Psychedelic, and New Age musics. And while one can hear those touchstones, these pieces still manage to sound like no other work besides the endeavors of Steve Targo. These tracks diverge from those on “Universal Compassion” in that they are much looser and less cyclical. They have a meandering and dynamic quality that is enhanced by their duration, allowing the listener to settle in and become absorbed in these meditations and freak outs. The album opens with the relatively mellow ebbs and flows of “Radical Expansions of Love”, setting the scene and inviting us into the space: an ever-growing fanfare of percussion playing call and response with spaced out synth melodies. “Peace Rock I” takes us to the other end of the spectrum with an insistent groove, layers of weaving synths, and a constant shimmer of bells, which all cohere into an ecstatic blend. “Peace Rock II” finds itself resting upon more relaxed rhythms with adventurous interpretations of repeating melodic figures, bending and warping around the beat for a hazy ride. “Nan Midol” closes the album with fiery drumming that steadily calms into a more sedate rhythm against an assemblage of interlocking synth lines to gently guide us to the conclusion of the journey. creditsreleased September 23, 2022 All music by Steve Targo. "Skarg strikes an imposing figure. 9 feet tall, they stand out wherever they walk. A ruthless mercenary with a past they are reluctant to share. After their brush with death, they fled Targos, now on the lookout for new opportunities."

Yuletide 2023 Recs, Batch Two
17 recs for Castlevania: Nocturne, The Chronicles of Riddick, Crimson Peak, Critical Role / EXU Calamity, Daisy Jones & The Six, The Devil Went Down To Georgia, Dracula, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
The Safety of Abstaining, Courteously, Olrox/Original Male Character + Mizrak/Olrox
Love is a dangerous thing for all vampires. It makes them vulnerable. Olrox has had the misfortune of experiencing this first hand. He is not doing that again.
Strange Allies, Olrox/Mizrak + Mizrak/Richter Belmont
Mizrak can’t figure out why Richter Belmont is still alive.
Three Principles, Dame Vaako/Vaako
Society among the Necromongers is cruel and ruthless. Death is the natural order of things, and life is to be endured. This is the story of the man and woman who would become Lord and Dame Vaako. Don't forget: you keep what you kill.
Blood in the Snow, Lucille Sharpe/Thomas Sharpe
Before the house, there was the earth, and the blood.
tempter or the tempted, Asmodeus the Lord of the Nine Hells/Zerxus Ilerez
“The tempter or the tempted, who sins most?” - William Shakespeare Zerxus won't give up trying to save Asmodeus. Asmodeus won't stop trying to damn Zerxus.
You Wanna Try That Again?, Billy Dunne/Daisy Jones
There are so many lines in the sand between Daisy and Billy - boundaries they won't cross, words they won't say, urges they won't give into. Right up until they do.
The Devil Went Down to Georgia Station, Gen, The Devil & Johnny
Me, I was just about ready to play the fool myself when the Devil arrived. You see, the sector sheriff had died a little while back, and the spaceways were so infested with bandits that no law-abiding ship dared to fly. The bandits didn't come stop at Georgia Station for a drink and a fiddler either—nobody comes down here unless they've got a resupply contract, for there's only one safe route in. I was feeling my old wanderlust, what with being cooped up in one place for so long, and besides my free meals were getting smaller by the day. That's why, when the Devil came sauntering into the station's only saloon and slid into the booth across from me, bringing out her fiddle from Devil-knows-where, I listened when she made me a deal.
The Calm before the Storm, Gen, The Captain of the Demeter
The Demeter's log was not the only tale of note to be found upon the ship.
Sanguine, Gen, John Seward
John is having bad dreams. Most of all, he dreams that Quincey might not be as dead as everyone thinks he is.
Into That, Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
Edgin returns the Helmet of Disjunction. Xenk rewards him.
Not Certainty, But Hope, Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
In which Xenk proposes. "I'm sorry, but I'm going to need you to repeat that," Edgin said. "I have come here to ask your hand in marriage," Xenk said in that annoyingly calm voice, like dropping in on someone at their local pub and asking them to marry you was just like popping next door and asking for a cup of sugar from the neighbor, "that we might infiltrate a temple of Ilmater and discover the means by which so many happy couples have disappeared."
Deception Check, Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
Ed had lied a lot. Did lie a lot. There was a lot of lying, was his point. But the trouble and the lying did not typically involve Xenk Yendar, and this was proving to be the problem. (or, Edgin Darvis attempts to lie and rolls a one.)
Legends & Lore, Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
Xenk gets truth potioned and doesn't say anything interesting at all.
Ink of the Covenant, Gen, Edgin Darvis & Holga Kilgore
Holga and Edgin get drunk. Edgin gets a tattoo. Standard 8th day in Targos, really.
it's a (fake) love story, baby (just say yes), Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
“Back up,” Edgin said. “Explain how that’s connected to me going with you to a wedding.”
Perception Check (Roll for Romance), Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
"I bet Xenk fucks like a metronome, too. You know." Holga makes a highly suggestive, repetitive gesture. "In, out. In, out. No variation. Same exact rhythm every time. Boring." Edgin stares at her, torn between horror and fascination. "You've really thought about this, huh?" (So has he. Unfortunately.)
you'll find us in the meadowland, Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
Xenk let himself in with a slow turn of his key in the lock. The obedient door let out not a solitary creak or groan. It had better not; he plied the thing with oil as often as he cleaned any of his gear. There was a little moonlight seeping in through the window - enough to see the shape of the man rifling through his things. He was standing at Xenk’s desk, tucked into the corner and lined by shelves stacked with holy texts. Not his most valuable, of course - he wouldn’t be so careless as to keep the most precious of his collection here - but any one of them would feed a hungry man for a few days, at least. And yet this man wasn’t hungry, and he was no ordinary thief. Xenk judged this not only by the strong slope of his shoulders and broad back and the fine weave of his coat but also by the fact that he had recently been awarded the highest honours the Lord of Neverwinter could bestow. No, Edgin could want for nothing; even he could not have spent his rewards so quickly. There was only one explanation. This was an affliction of the soul.

500 words of huddling for warmth? In this economy?
The last person Ed had expected to tumble through the traveller’s shack he had holed up in for the night was Xenk Yendar, looking half frozen and half near dead. Hadn’t expected to have to strip him of armour and clothing before stuffing him into bed; to dig up the few scant blankets the shack held and pile them on top; to build up the fire a little higher.  Xenk needed warm fluids, but looked deeply disinclined to drink them; it would have to wait, along with the explanation Ed was going to demand. What in the hells had happened?
Dimly, he recalled a rumour of a particularly nasty White Dragon that was said to dwell in the area; and the more recent rumour that a lone adventurer had gone to chat with it.
Then he looked at Xenk, trembling on the bed, face still nearly bloodless from cold.
“I hate you.” Ed informed him flatly. “Why are you like this?” Xenk shivered in reply. Even under all the blankets, he looked like he was freezing.
Ed knew the dangers of hypothermia. You don’t live in Targos without picking up a few things.
He groaned. There was no help for it.
He began stripping himself down to his braies as Xenk watched, eyes still slightly glazed in shock, because he was an idiot who took on white dragons by himself in a spring storm without factoring things like “breath weapons” and “crippling cold”.
“Sorry about this,” Ed informed him as he crawled under the blankets, “but we need to warm you up. So I’m going to have to invade your personal space.”
And invade he did: shoving his leg between Xenk’s thighs; wiggling his arms underneath Xenk’s armpits, plastering himself fully against Xenk’s back and wrapping himself around him like some kind of horrible vine. But Xenk didn’t appear to mind; he made a small sighing sound and pressed himself back, presumably in a hunt for more warmth. It was rather akin to cuddling a marble statue.
A very pretty, very naked, marble statue.
Ed looked at the objective facts of the situation, placed them neatly in a mental box, and shoved them deep into the back of his brain. He was not going to go there right now.
Otherwise, he was pretty comfortable. He was warm, despite the iceblock that was Xenk leaching it out of him; the fire made comforting crackling sounds, and the bed may have been a straw tick but he had slept in far worse places.
Xenk’s breathing was evening out, and he didn’t feel as cold as before, which was a relief. A few more hours, then Ed could detach himself. Maybe get his shirt back on at the least.
His eyelids felt heavy. Tomorrow there was going to be a chat, for certain, and they wouldn’t be able to leave for a few days until Xenk was recovered enough; but maybe that wouldn’t be so bad. A few nice, quiet days—
He slept.

synopses and propaganda under the cut
The Queen of Time
Synopsis
Somewhere outside our universe, she is waiting.
A god-like immortal, living in a realm of clocks. The hours tick slowly by as she plots and plans. She is readying her trap. A trap for a very special man in a very special police box.
Hecuba has all the time in the world. But for the Doctor, time is running out.
Propaganda
It's a really interesting lost story in the vein of The Celestial Toymaker, where the Doctor is held captive at the world's worst dinner party while his friends are forced through a gauntlet of time-themed traps and puzzles. (6&7)
Paradise 5
Synopsis
The Doctor and Peri visit the planet Targos Delta to check in on old friend Professor Albrecht Thompson, only to discover that he has vanished. He was last sighted taking a shuttle to the holiday resort of Paradise 5, then never seen again.
The Doctor's curiosity is piqued. They must investigate, but they must do so stealthily...Peri will go undercover on Paradise 5, while the Doctor hides in the shadows. Because paradise holds a terrible secret beneath the white marble and golden trimmings. The mute Cherubs have a story to tell. And the Elohim are coming.
Beware.

The best Dalek story never made. (@finalpam8000 )

However much longer that may be.
Propaganda
the master has a fun time :) (anonymous)
Forever Fallen
Synopsis
Until now, an offered chance from the Doctor has never stopped the villain's schemes.
Until now, the android armies, the powerful space stations, the mind-control rays, have gone unchecked to disastrous effect.
Until now...
...But then what happens?
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
A Full Life

13, 14, 18, and 22!!
does your tav willingly do the "silly" options, eg. licking the spider, kissing the goblin's foot, etc.?
Laughter is willing to do silly things if they're within her comfort zone. She'll absolutely NOT kiss the goblin's foot, but she'd absolutely lick the spider out of curiosity....maybe lick it once more for good measure...
what was your tav's life like before they got kidnapped by the mindflayers?
Normal, almost painfully so. She lived in a small town that was smack dab between Luskan and Fireshear, off of the main road that lead towards Ten Towns. Most of the time they would go perform within Bryn Shander or Targos. Laughter also helped her mother be their liaison between a druid grove and the outside world. The only reason they got kidnapped was because they'd finally got enough money to travel to Neverwinter to officially start their bardic college.
what made them train in the class they fight in?
Several of the skalds within Ten Towns. Laughter had always been fascinated by stories and legends, partially due to her own parents being well known adventurers back in their day. What really set her over the edge was, when in Neverwinter as a child, the Witchlight Carnival came to town. It was actually the laughter and brightness and joy that she saw the carnival bring people that truly pushed them to learn the bardic arts.
who was your tav's family? did they have any?
Laughter's father is a tiefling man who was once apart of the Blood Wars before he had escaped, while her mother was half-wood elf druid of Silvanus who had met and fell in love with her father during their journeys.
Being around a druid mother who had ties to a druid grove, by extension the entire Shepherd's Grove near them is also considered their family as well, the old Firbolg Archdruid, Qinro, is lovingly referred to as "Gran'pa."

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Easter Eggs (Part 2)
[[ Part 1 can be found by clicking this link.
Deep in the Crevices
You've really got to search for these:
Mordenkainen: Yes, him again! Those are the three circles of his two-bladed sword on the Mordenkainen's arcane seal on the Castle Never vault. What's more, those same three circles appear on the front of the helmet of disjunction—which casts Mordenkainen's disjunction.
Tumblr media
The spear of Aoth Fezim: Who? The Thayan warmage involved in the War of the Zulkirs during Szass Tam's takeover of Thay in the The Haunted Lands and Brotherhood of the Griffon series of novels by Richard Lee Byers from 2007 to 2013.
Tumblr media
Trip and Shuffle: Introduced in A Reader's Guide to R. A. Salvatore's the Legend of Drizzt, marked only on maps since then. Only named on the Monopoly board.
Tumblr media
Driftwood Tavern: From Neverwinter Campaign Setting and Drizzly novels. Only named on the Monopoly board and cast list. I don't even recall this in the movie.
Tumblr media
The Citadel: Too dark to be sure, but the tower in Thay may be Szass Tam's base of operations.
Tumblr media
Holga's darksteel greataxe: Made from darksteel and functioning roughly as last detailed in Magic of Faerûn and Volo's Guide to All Things Magical. This was forged by Ghelryn Foehammer of Targos, who appeared in 2e and 5e.
Tumblr media
Loudwater: The thieves robbed Jolym of Jolym's Barrels & Packing in Loudwater, which was only mentioned in Volo's Guide to the North, 1993.
Tumblr media
Zulkir Dmitra Flass: a 1300s Red Wizard of Thay, a non-speaking role and named only in the cast list.
Tumblr media
Din Caldwell, of the Caldwell family of Baldur's Gate, named only in the cast list.
Tumblr media
Porb Piiradost, of the Piiradost family of Waterdeep (not seen since 2nd edition), named only in the cast list.
Tumblr media
Lord Nasher Alagondar: That's his giant statue outside the Neverwinter arena.
Tumblr media
Lord Halueth Never: So possibly that's his giant statue next to Nasher's
Tumblr media
The Gray Hands, just mentioned in the Neverwinter arena.
Tumblr media
A portrait of Volothamp Geddarm in instrument to the heist.
Tumblr media
How in the Hells Did You Find This?
The most obscure, the deepest cuts:
Pendant of invisibility: Kira's magic item. Most likely a coincidence as it wasn't on the wiki before, but it matches perfectly with a magic item of the same name in the back of Dungeon #112 in 2004.
Tumblr media
The flashback of Szass Tam's spell and takeover of Thay appears to be a quick fictionalized summation of the events of The Crimson Gold and Unclean as well as the next century of Thayan history and descent into a necromancer's realm. Presumably this is set circa 1375 before Szass's coup and the Thayan civil war in the latter book.
Tumblr media
Szass Tam's beckoning death spell for creating mass numbers of undead follows exactly the supposedly false story of "the spell of Undeath" that the would-be Harper King Rundorl Moonsklan and duped ally of Szass Tam spread in the early 1200s DR, as detailed in The Code of the Harpers by Ed Greenwood in 1993.
Tumblr media
Whether or not it can be seen in the final cut of the film, thanks to an old photo from the set of the Triboar playhouse, we know there are images depicting the three boars for which the town was named as well as a shirtless man we assume to be Gwaeron Windstrom (given that god's relevance to the town).
Tumblr media
Scenes of Lord Halueth Never and the early history of Neverwinter appear on the walls of Forge's office.
Tumblr media
Wild Realmslore Theorizing
Insert meme of madman in front of conspiracy board here.
In Thay, it's "the eve of the solstice" and a few people are carrying red-and-yellow sun symbols. Amaunator the sun god has the summer solstice as his holy day and a sun holy symbol, particularly this one. While newly revived in 1374 DR and his association with Thay is unknown, it is plausible.
Tumblr media
Daurgothoth moved into Dolblunde in the Year of Beckoning Death, 1253 DR, which has the same name as the Szass Tam's spell. Daurgothoth, the Creeping Doom, a dracolich, is also conspicuously absent from Dolblunde, while that necromantic spell for creating undead pours forth from something that looks like it just might be part of a dragon's horn.
Tumblr media
We don't know officially what type of undead to classify Dralas and the other victims of Tam's beckoning death, however we note that they seem like perhaps a cross between the living Thayan knights and the unliving dread warriors (a favorite and original creation of Tam's).
Tumblr media
----------------------------------------------------
Once again, credit for these finds goes to BadCatMan and the Forgotten Realms Wiki.
Once the movie hits streaming services, I’ll do an updated version of this post with movie screencaps to make it a more thorough visual guide. ]]

An Unfortunate Circumstance (D&D Honor Among Thieves Fanfic)
Chapter 1
A/N: I saw the movie twice and blame @uniasus for this. I don't play d&d but I tried. If it's not right or there's problems... eh. I'm mostly here for the fun of it. This movie got me inspired to write this and my own fantasy adventure. There's a lot we don't know about Simon's family, SOOOOOOOOO i made it up. Enjoy! (NO idea how long this will be)
*~*~*~*~
Simon
Simon stared down into the empty mug of ale, lamenting how fast he'd drunk. Because now… he needed another and was without the jovial company of his friends. Edgin, Holga, and Kira stayed behind in Targos, and now Simon wished he'd had as well.
Maybe then he and Doric could have patched things up. If — and this was the big part — Simon could figure out what had happened to cause Doric to end their courting again. But unlike the first time, where she very verbally relayed that Simon's lack of self-esteem made her rather depressed, Simon seriously questioned why she'd backed off this time.
No matter.
Things were far worse than trying to figure out why the hells Doric dumped him. Simon — as reluctantly as possible — had returned to Baldur’s Gate. To see his parents.
Because they'd gotten word about what he'd done in Neverwinter and sent a message to Targos requesting (with less than a hint of demanding) he return home.
Bollocks.
And to turn down an invitation by the Aumar family was… well, frowned upon. Greatly.
Of course, he wouldn't have wished his parents on Edgin or young Kira. That would have been torture. But Kira likely would have loved to go to a fancy ball his parents would throw for whatever inane reason they could fathom and make Simon look like a fool all over again.
"'Nother pint, m'lord?" A young barmaid with deep red hair of autumn leaves and a slight golden tan. Simon even spied pointed ears if his drunken state wasn't deceiving him. At least half-elven herself.
“Oh, aye!”
Read the entire chapter here on AO3.
She smiled courteously, almost too politely, and poured a new pint of ale.
“And I’m not a lord.” Though if his parents had any say, they’d… well… he’d hear it all soon enough.
