When the world suddenly seemed to stand still during those first days of lockdown and I had nothing to do apart from re-arranging my office and staring at an empty collection board I kept wondering how to continue working.. so I finally came up with just going back to the absolute basics, to design a T-shirt for everyone.
The only way to do this was to show how to make one yourself, without any prior knowledge of sewing or cutting , just using a pair of scissors and an d T-Shirt . So I posted a little tutorial ( filmed by David on an iphone) on Instagram, and the reactions were so diverse and lovely that I did another one and then another.. 5 in total. I then did one more for VOGUE Runway , a little more…

I made Danny Fenton's T-shirt!
Tumblr media
I finished it just a few minutes ago,, I really like how it looks!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I traced out Danny's round oval with marker and paint with REALLY thinned red acrylics throughout the process, I used water to thin the paint out
After that, I also put tape when painting his red collar and cuffs so paint doesn't go out anywhere. Then I sealed everything with mod podge.
Ta da!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...but of course, there was still stains that went through the tape. But it doesn't matter, I had fun through out the entire process.

Sometimes as a spoonie life knocks you over with just a gentle breeze.... So it's been a while since I've made any silly projects for myself (which often makes me more depressed!! Yay!!). Tried sitting down last week and painting whatever doodle came to mind on a t shirt to get back into a small swing of things, and of course it was The Forgetmenauts again..... <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"i took a zombie to prom and all i got was this lousy t-shirt" and some very simplistic forget-me-nots flowers on the shirt!!!! I did originally picture painting more (like aged tombstones and maybe mushrooms) but I think I like the simpler design atm.
(Just realized you can still see ugly yellow the chalk lines on the shirt in the pics lol)

here you go, here's just an outrageously high definition My Clerical Gnomance logo for all you freaks out there. also here's a dropbox link to it.
shoutout to Raven Blackhardt who made the font The Chemical Parade, available for free online at this link. (I'm like 99% sure that's what the folks at D20 used, too.)

"send your kids [dice] to camp" when one of the players has a big damage roll they need a lot of extraneous dice for is my favorite running cross-campaign d20 bit. maybe ever. I loved it so much in my first ever d20 campaign tuc (Emily and lou sitting next to each other talking about how their "kids" rolled) and its still going now in fantasy high junior year. the world is so beautiful

Another t-shirt mod
Because it's impossible for me to buy a shirt without doing something to make it more interesting 😁
Vampire is a Swedish thrash/death metal band, but although they were formed in 2011 they have a very old-school sound, more like death metal was back in the 80s. Slight shades of Black Metal too, but again in its earlier Bathory era form. Originally their material was only released on cassette and vinyl, and they were one of the first modern bands I came across that did that. I've been a fan since their first EP, and I have a tattoo of their logo, but only just managed to get one of their shirts.
I would usually get a man's/unisex, but on this occasion I got the "girlie" fit. It originally looked sonething like this (official website photo as i didn’t take a picture before I started messing with it).
Tumblr media
However the print was way lower on the body than is shown here. I've mentioned before that I dislike the look of low waisted shirts on me, so I usually crop them. However in this instance as there was so much space at the top what I did instead was cut the length from there, re-sew the shoulders and re-shape the neckline (removing the sleeves at the same time).
At that point although it *just* fit it was a little too tight to be comfortable, probably because I'd moved the original waistline up my body so it was sitting around my ribcage. I had some of this extra wide lace trim that I bought ages ago on sale for pennies.
Tumblr media
I cut up the side seams and sewed a panel of this down each side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This meant it fit perfectly in the chest, however it was now slightly too loose in the waist area. I have quite a v-shaped upper body with a wide chest and shoulders and a narrow waist from having been a weight lifter for a few years!
But, rather than taking in the sides again, instead I did a cut and weave on the back, but I only wove the bottom part, just leaving plain slashes at the top. This pulled in the shirt slightly at the waist area and now it fits perfectly! I like my shirts fitted without being *tight* tight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are tons of tutorials for doing cut and weave stuff on youtube, this was a really basic one.
I hope this might have given folks a few ideas if you have a shirt you love that is too tight for you. Any fabric could be used for the side panels, I just used the lace because I had it to hand and it works with the overall style. I would say a slightly stretchy fabric is probably better for this kind of mod though.
I'll sign off by sharing a track by Vampire, the first one I ever heard which I got on a random YouTube recommendation. Since I love Vampire related stuff and extreme metal I had to give it a try, and was really glad I did.
youtube
The name makes them a little difficult to search up online, so if you're interested here's their bandcamp 😉 You can also try searching "Vampire the band" or "Vampire metal band Sweden".
Edit: I should have also included the t-shirt link: right here, it is official not knock-off as I found it via their instagram. There is slightly different merch here than what is available on their bandcamp:

Hey! You! Do you have several unused t-shirts from an old job, a summer camp, or a family reunion you regret attending? Maybe you'd rather have a shirt that says "SAD BUT RAD" or "I HATE THE IRS" or "THE DESPAIR CANNOT HAVE ME"?
I call this project the T-Shirt Remix.
Tumblr media
Supplies:
several shirts you hate, all with words
one shirt that fits you okay
cardboard (will explain)
a camera or a friend
thread, needle, pins
a few hours
gumption
[maybe paint if you're missing any letters]
My base shirt is from the old awful warehouse job. I started by cutting the huge graphic off the back and patching it with a blank piece of an ancient attitude tee. (If your shirt's graphic is small enough to cover with letters, you can skip this step!)
Tumblr media
I whipstitched all around the edges to keep it in place. Also, my text is going on the back because my current cargo job keeps wearing the print off my shirt fronts. You can do as you like!
Take those old shirts and cannibalize them. Hack out the logos and take the letters you need. Cuss, pray, meditate, disassociate, or all of the above as you purge something awful and remix it into a better form. I chose "On the way to better days!"
Tumblr media
[I didn't have a B. I'll use white paint for it.]
Next thing you'll want is a photo of you in the shirt, just so you can see the flat parts vs the wrinkled parts and envision your design. [You'd hate to have a critical part of the graphic wrinkled up by your armpit or your underboob, no?] If you don't have a camera, a friend might be able to help you; I'm just super visual.
Tumblr media
Next is where the cardboard comes in. Lay the shirt flat and put the cardboard inside the shirt so you can't pin the back and front together.
Tumblr media
Now put those letters in place and shove pins through them. Try to keep them flat, but jersey is also very forgiving.
Tumblr media
This next step requires caution. You need to try the shirt on (careful, it's sharp!). But it's important to photograph it on your body because you'll probably need to tweak it. As you see below, my straight lines of text ended up going upward (either the shirt's crooked or I am; IDK) and required a second round of adjustment and pins. It's ok. Now is the time to fix it, not after it's already sewn.
Fidget it around until it makes your heart happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now the last step is to sew the letters on! Which...I am about to go do. Right now. For sure. I'll report back!

pair of gloves I made!!! finished them like two months ago at this point and I’m still mourning the fact it’s way too hot to wear em out. I sewed them while they were on my hands/arms mostly to get a close fit though you pay for that in a million pin pricks. I got pin pricks in the shape of a heart on my right hand from this so uh. I don’t encourage this unfortunately I’d do it again. also that does mean that I was sewing with my left hand for a fair bit of the right glove which went way better than it should’ve, honestly!
yeah though, it’s all made out of scrap material— the KING is written in alcohol marker on umbrella fabric, heart is cut out of umbrella fabric, all the various lace is from a childhood dress, most of everything else is old t shirt and sock material. the green lace up part is actually lace from an old dress that I dyed with food colouring— which was a very funny experience, cooking a horrendous vinegar-water-food colouring mixture on the stove top with scrap fabric in it for like 30 minutes. I am astounded that it WORKED.
also the threads are purposefully poking out and shit, I wanted it to be messy and multi coloured
yeah!!! all it takes is a couple days and the audacity, as usual

@echoes-lighthouse It IS almost Halloween, so here are Sun and I's costumes (Trick or Treating in the Pizzaplex)
Tumblr media
I'm fan favorite character Freddy Fazbear (cobbled together via gift shop merch) and he's a totally nondescript run-of-the-mill Pirate! (don't worry about where he got his costume; no one's using it anymore anyway)

Thinking of making a little rug to put next to my bed.
This article explains how to make one continuous strip of yarn out of a t-shirt. I wonder if I could use the same principle with old leggings.
