what's funny about people who pretend to support syrians to spite ukrainians and those that support ukraine is that they don't know just how out of touch this sentiment is with the very same syrians that they claim to support

New National(?) Flag Change in Syria
So, hey, sorry I've been kind just off the grid for a while. College is crazy sometimes.
As a lot of y'all probably know, the Assad regime in Syria fell after rebel forces took Damascus. The leaders of the rebel group have taken de facto control of Syria, and we're seeing various consulates and embassies around the world adopting a new (well old) flag.
Tumblr media
The new flag is actually an older flag of Syria that was used two different times. The first instance was from 1930 to 1958 (First and Second Republics of Syria) and then 1961 to 1963 (Syrian Arab Republic).
Each color represents a historical Islamic empire, the white for the Umayyad dynasty, the green for the Rashidun caliphate, black for the Abbasid dynasty, and the red for the Hashemite dynasty.
Each color (except black) also represents something symbolic, with the red being the blood shed in the struggle for freedom, white the bright and peaceful future, and green the takbir, or Allahu akbar, or Allah is Great. The three red stars represent the tree major cities within Syria: Damascus, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor.
The new flag being used bring hope to the land of Syria, as the new de facto government has released a lot of political prisoners and appears to seek more democratic rule. The new de facto government was largely supported by the Turkish government, and there's no guarantee that the new Syrian Transitional Government will become a new Syrian Republic, or if this is sadly a temporary peace in a continuation of the Syrian Civil War.
For now, though, new flag, and hopefully continuing peace.

Idc what y'all say. If you support the two party system you support white supremacy. I don't care if one side is less openly horrific than the other. I don't care. Y'all are 1/16th of the way to a full thought. You got your fingertips out of the box but you're still trapped. Stop getting your political knowledge from tiktok influencers. Read anarchy and the black revolution and go from there. Saying "it's stupid not to pick the better of both evils" or "you must be privileged to say you aren't voting" is ridiculous. Follow indigenous ppl online and read what they have to say. Listen to them. If you're supporting a system that still enacts genocide on its most vulnerable (Dems are just as guilty) then you're supporting white supremacy and fascism. Talk less and learn more. If y'all were actually listening to the most vulnerable ppl in this country, instead of white tiktokers, your opinions and ideas would evolve. Don't EVER think you know exactly what you're talking about. You're the student until you die.

eh even some of the minorities in syria (including me) are happy about the new guys. some stuff happened and long story short i ended up getting stranded on the street in damascus on sunday when the rebels entered the city. a free army soldier was walking in front of me and my friends and he said they're not gonna touch any civilians whether they're alawites, shias, christians or whatever. and then just went back to minding his own business. he had the perfect opportunity to kill us and he did not. that alone gives me confidence that they're not the same as 2014 jabhat an-nusra who did commit massacres against said groups.
US-backed government in Afghanistan collapses, salafists take power: nooooooo this is so bad for women and minorities
government in Syria collapses, US-backed salafists take power: yesss this is such a hopeful time for women and minorities

I'm going to make this very simple for you:
--if, upon encountering a Jewish person online or IRL, your first action is to ask them their feelings regarding Israel, Gaza, or the sort, you are an antisemite.
--if, upon finding a Jew online, your first instinct is to search their blog to find signs that they might be a Zionist, you are an antisemite.
--if, upon encountering a Jewish person, your first instinct is to interrogate them as to whether or not they are a Zionist (in other words, a "good" Jew or a "bad" Jew), you are an antisemite.
--if you claim to care for Palestinians yet don't also condemn the Syrians, Lebanese, or other majority Muslim nations who have also persecuted them and denied them refuge, you are an antisemite.
--if you support blatantly antisemitic groups such as Hamas (who also persecute the Palestinians, btw, not to mention their stated aim is to wipe all Jews out from the Levant, which is what that "river to the sea" chant means), the Houthis (they have a flag that literally states "a curse upon the Jews), the Islamic Regime, and others, you are an antisemite.
--if someone can't tell the difference between you and a literal Nazi, you are an antisemite.
--if you deny what happened on October 7 or even say that the people who were raped and killed "deserved" it, you are an antisemite.
--if you hold all Jews responsible for the actions of Israel's government, you are an antisemite.
--if you hold no other nation to the same standards and accountabilities as you do Israel, you are an antisemite.
Feel free to add, fellow Jews.

Idk if it's just me, but it's weird that you have people who claim to be against black and brown people being killed or harmed, yet are so willing to support groups like Hezbollah and the Houthi who literally harm black and brown people.
And I know the answer is antisemitism. The enemy (hezbollah and houthi) of my enemy (jews) is my friend. The reason why I've put jews instead of Israelis is well, because hezbollah and the houthi don't want to kill just Israelis, they want to kill jews. Like literally for example part of the houthi slogan is "curse to jews". If you're supporting those groups because you hate Israel, no bestie you hate jews.
When you wave the hezbollah flag, you are supporting the killing and oppression of Syrians. When you wave the houthi flag you are supporting the killing and enslaving of africans. By wishing these groups to be powerful, you are directly wishing for the continuation of harm to black and brown people.

Genuinely I thought the flag was the YPG flag when I first saw the kid raising it, then I misread “Boravian” as “Rojavan”
And I mean considering how they’ve kind of been going back to Superman’s roots in recent years, can you really blame me?

Washington, D.C. – In a groundbreaking and, dare we say, entirely logical move, U.S. Secretary of State Antonio Blinken announced today that the United States recognizes Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Syria. The decision has sent shockwaves across the international community and left many scratching their heads.
In a press conference held this morning, Blinken stood confidently at the podium, flanked by advisors who appeared to be stifling laughter. “The United States has always stood firmly with the forces of democracy, freedom, and choosing the same guy over and over again,” Blinken declared. “That is why we are proud to recognize Juan Guaidó as the rightful leader of Syria.”
Guaidó, who had been gearing up for another year of not being Venezuela’s president, graciously accepted the new title. “I am honored to take on this unexpected yet completely sensible responsibility,” he said in a virtual address, appearing in front of a hastily photoshopped backdrop of the new Syrian flag. “I have always believed that borders should not constrain my presidency.”
