Steaming Ahead: A Look at Sweden's Hot Drinks Market
Sweden, a nation known for its long, cold winters, unsurprisingly boasts a thriving hot drinks market. Coffee and tea reign supreme, but the industry is far from stagnant. Here, we'll delve into the steaming cup of Sweden's hot beverage trends.
Market Mainstays: Coffee Rules the Roast
Coffee is king in Sweden. Swedes are some of the highest coffee consumers globally, with a deep-rooted coffee culture. Filter coffee, brewed in a traditional "bryggare," is a household staple. However, espresso-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos are gaining popularity, particularly among younger demographics, thanks to the rise of specialty coffee shops.
Tea Time Gets a Modern Twist
While coffee dominates, tea holds a respectable position in the Swedish hot drinks market. Black tea remains a classic choice, but herbal and fruit infusions are experiencing a surge, driven by health and wellness trends. Functional teas boasting specific health benefits are also gaining traction.
Savoring Sustainability
Swedes are known for their environmental consciousness, and this extends to their hot drinks. The demand for ethically sourced and sustainably packaged coffee and tea is on the rise. Consumers are increasingly opting for organic and fair-trade options, with companies highlighting these practices to attract eco-conscious buyers.
Convenience is Key
Busy lifestyles are shaping the Swedish hot drinks market. Ready-to-drink coffee and tea options are experiencing significant growth. Consumers seek grab-and-go formats and portion control to fit their fast-paced lives. Single-serve coffee pods and bottled tea are popular choices for this segment.
Beyond the Basics: A Specialty Craving
There's a growing desire for unique flavor profiles and premium experiences in the Swedish hot drinks market. Specialty coffee shops are flourishing, offering craft coffee with unique brewing methods and high-quality beans. Similarly, a wider variety of loose-leaf teas and exotic flavor combinations are enticing consumers seeking a more discerning hot beverage experience.
The Future of Hot Beverages in Sweden
The Swedish hot drinks market is poised for continued growth. Here are some key trends to watch:
Continued Focus on Sustainability: Consumers will prioritize ethically sourced and responsibly packaged products. Look for companies to innovate in eco-friendly packaging and highlight their commitment to sustainability.
Functional Beverages Take Center Stage: The demand for hot drinks with specific health benefits, like teas boasting immune support or relaxation properties, is expected to rise.
On-the-Go Innovation: Convenience will remain a key driver. Expect to see new ready-to-drink options catering to busy lifestyles, with potential advancements in portion control and innovative delivery methods.
Premiumization Persists: The desire for specialty hot drinks with unique flavor profiles and high-quality ingredients will continue to fuel growth in the specialty coffee and tea segments.

Bike II
Chelsea Women x Child!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: You're good at bike riding
Tumblr media
"I'm so tired," Erin complains, fanning herself," God, it's hot today."
"I need a nap," Millie agrees.
"A nap and to do nothing for the rest of the day," Niamh says as she passes by, stripping off her sweaty training shirt," I'm just going to go home and melt."
"Home and an ice cream," Zećira continues, nodding and completely satisfied with her plan," I can't wait to get home."
"You'll all have to wait," Magda says decisively from the day. She'd come in earlier than everyone else, taking you into the building for a toilet and hydration break.
Most of the team had actually been quite worried about you.
This heat is sweltering and you're still tiny and excitable with energy that makes you run all over the field. It's like an accident waiting to happen.
Pernille had you stop and take long drinks from your water bottle all through practice until it ran out and she sent you off with Magda to fill it up.
You and Magda never came back though so everyone just presumed you'd already been bundled up in the car where there's air conditioning to use while you wait for Pernille to finish up and change.
"There's a surprise out the front."
"Is it an ice cream van?" Guro asks," Because that's the only thing that will make me happy right now."
"It's not an ice cream van."
"Then I'm out."
"No you're not," Magda says sternly," You're all going out the front with a smile and you're going to celebrate and clap and give compliments. Got it?"
"It's hot," Sam complains," Can't we rearrange this surprise?"
"No, Sam. We're doing it now."
"Give them a second to change, Magda," Pernille says," We're all hot. We're all irritable. Give them a sec."
Magda huffs. "Fine. I'll be out the front." She points a finger at everyone in turn. "I expect you all out there in ten minutes."
Pernille manages to shepherd everyone out in five.
"Right," Millie says, adjusting her cap so it properly shades her from the beating sun," What's-Oh."
"Look!" You say," I'm riding my bike!"
You peddle quickly around the car park, little legs pumping as you turn your handlebars so you're going around in circles.
You're doing impressively well on your bike, a very slow for an adult but fast for a little kid. It's even more impressive when the team note that you've not got any stabilisers.
A little basket that wasn't originally there when Sam bought it sits on the front and in it sits your swan and moose toy as well as a little bouquet of flowers that Pernille bought you at the market this morning.
Most of the team is speechless until Jessie starts clapping.
"Well done!" She calls out," You're doing so well!"
You beam at the praise, puffing out your chest in pride and pump your legs even faster.
Magda also puffs out her chest and Pernille has to smother her laughter.
"I taught her to ride," Magda brags," We took her stabilisers off last week. Isn't she so good?"
"The best!" Jessie agrees warmly, still clapping.
"Best ever!" Sam yells out," Look at you go!"
The team seem to have forgotten their exhaustion as you skid to a stop nearly half an hour later, everyone crowding around you as you pant from your cycling.
"Look at this!" Zećira exclaims," It's such a cool colour!"
"It's red," You tell her," Like Arsenal and Sweden's goalkeeper shirt! I love red!"
"It is!" Zećira says, nodding along," And you've got a little basket!"
"For my toys," You tell her," And my water bottle. And I've got a bell!"
You demonstrate by flicking it, letting the noise rings out through the car park.
"That's so cool!"
You grin at Zećira before looking at Jessie, suddenly shy.
"Did I do good, Jessie?"
She grins at you, ruffling your hair. "So good. I'm very impressed. I didn't know you could ride a bike!"
"Morsa taught me," You explain," And Momma did too. At the park. They say if I keep practicing and getting better and better we can all do a ride together! Do you want to go on a bike ride with me, Jessie?"
Jessie grins. "I'd love to."

He could see his breath. Sweden, 1984. Cold winter blanketed everything in white. He was wearing a thick wool sweater his mother picked out for him, knitted in a creamy color to bring out his sparkling blue eyes.
Cold. Numbing cold. And blinding white snow. It pained his eyes. Still he marched on. Pride bloomed in his chest, his heart swelling in joy after he studied for music class and successfully remembered everything they had covered.
It was the first thing he felt. Pride and joy.
Each step he took it brought him closer to home. The snow under his feet gave way easily, promising relief from winter's grasp and the blinding snow.
He had been looking forward to school. He had been such a good student. His mother had promised sweet bread and spiced mead for him to try. He would be like the warriors of Valhalla. Drinking mead, eating a feast of his choice. He was so excited to show her his grade in music class. He finally remembered the terminology and the scale! He struggled with it badly before -
He took a small hand out to turn the doorknob.
Skwisgaar's heart thumped in his chest. He knew where this was going and he screamed at himself to stop before the all too familiar sight played again.
He flung opened the door.
"Momma, I'm home!"
Skwisgaar smiles as the smell of lussekatter rolls fills his nose, and his mom's special stew. He was so happy that she found them a home. She was tired of moving just like he was. Unpacking and packing up was always a hassle.
He quickly took his shoes off and walked over to the kitchen to see Serveta in an apron saying "Kiss the Chef", pulling out the rolls from the tiny oven in the kitchen. She placed them down on a cooling rack before going over to kiss Skwisgaar on the forehead.
"Skwisgaar? I'm in the kitchen!"
... what? The kitchen? It felt like the very day he first saw his mother's very active lifestyle, and not... whatever this was.
A deep confusion set in the adult Skwisgaar's mind. Was this not the day he first walked in on his mother? What was going on?
" So tell me? How was school?"
"I did it! Just like we studied yesterday. I remembered all the words and passed the test in music class." He looked at the table set up and smiled big - his mom had prepped her stew, his sweet rolls were cooling down and she had gotten some fruits and jams to eat afterward. And right in the center was the bottle of spiced mead.
"I knew you would get a passing score. Go and wash up, put your books away, and come down to set the table. Afterwards, we can watch some television."
In his mind, Skwisgaar's confusion gave way to hurt. To anger. To questions he knew the answer to.
Serveta took off the oven mittens she had and began to take off her apron, leaving Skwisgaar to walk up to his room as he hastily put his books away. She had a plain blue dress shirt on with buttons down the front, and a pair of white jeans on. She looked like she walked off one of the American fashion magazines she liked to gawk over in the big market.
" You think I'm going to let you drink your first glass out of a cup? You must be mistaken." Serveta pulled out a set of glass ...teacups? Skwisgaar had seen her and his grandmother use them when drinking glögg around this time of year. The glasses were in a bath of water in a pot in the sink, and as she dried them he noticed it was hot water they had soaked in.
Coming back down, his mother dried her hands and stepped aside as he washed his own hands and quickly set the plates and the glasses down. This was after his first growth spurt, the first of many that made him the tallest member of Dethklok. He remembered how awkward he felt and lacking in grace it all was. Watching how to move himself because his body's new height was changing so frequently, he couldn't keep up and adjust.
"If you're drinking glögg, you're going to do it properly."
"Like you?" Serveta stopped, a questioning look on her face. She responds, "Yes? It's meant to be taken like a tea. Hot and steaming." She takes the mead and sets it in the pot, before finally sitting down.
Skwisgaar paused as Serveta finally took the bottle of mead and poured it into the glasses. Rasing the glass up to her face, she took in a deep breath and blew a bit on the top of the liquid. Passing one of them, he took it, a genuine wonder in his face and touch, never blinking. As if the glass would vanish if he blinked.
As they ate, that pit of anger grew. Fury rose in him. What was this weird ... dream? Nightmare? Deep down, he knew what it was. Quit lying to yourself.
It was the childhood desires he ruthlessly buried in the snow. It was the yearnings of a child that he left behind with her that first time he was forgotten, ignored, accused of being selfish for wanting a mom. For wanting his mom to care. The childish want for companionship from his family that he numbed with each high, each couch he slept on, each step he took away from her and the disasters that befell him and his first few bands in Gothenburg.
Back in the murky glow of the kitchen, dream Skwisgaar asked the strange version of Serveta about her day, as she served food and he tore open a roll, still warm to the touch.
"Traditionally, your grandmother made me wish for something for the first glass of the season."
"I wish this was real. That you actually cared."
Skwisgaar had glued his eyes to his mother before she spoke, now boring holes into the glass in his hands.
"Make a wish, Skwisgaar."
The words came out before he realized what he said.
He looked back up and watched as his small hands poured out the glögg, right into the rolls. "Then I wish you stopped hurting me."
"Oh, Skwisgaar," she replied, back in her normal red strapless dress, "wake up and stop wishing for useless things." He looked at her as she rose, he face disappointed and annoyed. That was the woman he knew.
You're not useless. You were distant, but not useless.
She hands him her glass, before dusting her dress and patting his shoulder. "Then drink mine. I don't need it anymore." She walked away, her heels loud as she took each step away from young dream Skwisgaar.
"Don't you have a wish?" He asked.
"It came true years ago. You are not in my way, anymore."
He drank her glass, as the ache in his chest became less and less until he couldn't hear his heels anymore. All he felt was anger.
Fury.
- - - - -
He jolts as he wakes and tosses the covers off. He touches his chest, his arms and then his head. No sweater, long hair. Adult sized.
After making a mental note to never touch whatever Pickles was handing out last night, he got up and texted his mom to make sure she was fine before he washed his face. It was something his grandma did when she dreamt of him or his mom, before passing away. She'd make an effort to go out and find them, always believing dreams were omens. An old habit he kept.
This burning coal of anger simmered deep in his gut, and he figured that with sleep efrectively ended for the day, he might as well grab his guitar and play.
Isn't that what he did anyways? Just put to song what words could never describe?
His phone flashed.
"Hej, momma."
His mom was calling.
Confused, he picked up regardless.
"Skwisgaar?"
"Hello, stranger. You never text. What's happening, Skwisgaar?" Serveta quipped in her usual way.
It brought relief he didn't know he was seeking to hear her usual tone, her self coming through in unfiltered annoyance. Tension rolled off him. There were some background noises of what he assumed was possibly the lumber mill for firewood, or maybe she was in the city. There was chatter and vehicles and the sound of water.
".... I was checking in to see if you were... uh, if you were okay."
"I was headed to the market. Isn't it... four in the morning where you are?" Huh, so it was.
"I'm ... busy. With recording. And planning... tour stops."
"Skwisgaar, I know when you're lying. You and my mother always reached out when you had odd dreams."
He sighed. The rage was simmering low in his gut bow, not boiling and flowing through him like it did earlier. Oddly enough, Serveta was cooling him down a bit. Was this what moms did? If anything, he only saw how they made his bandmates uncomfortable, at best.
"Am I not allowed to call you anymore, mom?"
"I was not expecting it."
There was a pause. He was always such an awkward person when speaking to his mother. Always the awkward teenager that she let go back in 1988.
"Uh, I'll visit soon. We can make plans later this month."
"...thank you. For asking. And I'll have some glögg and lussekatter ready for you."
"... do you think you could make some of that stew?"
"That was your grandma's recipe. I'll have to search for her recipe book, but I can." With the promise of a visit and the excuse of being needed for Dethklok stuff, he hung up the phone and collected his thoughts.
With plans to visit her at some point in the future, Skwisgaar brushed his hair and grabbed his guitar after he dressed himself.
She may not have been the best mother, but she was his.
Pickles was able to get over his mother. He was able to heal, and finally tell her off. He could maybe do the same. Or at least try to mend things. Maybe it would work out better.
Murderface was able to keep his grandmother happy. Even if it meant spending boatloads on scooters and medical expenses, he could see that Stella did care and appreciated Murderface. She and Rose were tied for most visits - considerably impressive, given her limited mobilty.
Toki had been in contact with Anja on several occasions. He didn't pry on that particular aspect of Toki's home life, but she messaged him frequently. He also made sure that she had access to him with her own Dethphone, although she seemed more confused than thankful for it when the exchange happened.
Nathan had his mother visit him frequently back when they kicked out Magnus. She was the woman who made sure her kid and his friends had food to eat besides beer. She made sure they knew a mother's touch, helping them with chores and being at their first few venues to give them a ride back. It was maddening at first, to him anyways - his mother was rarely around and having one this ... present was stifling. It nearly suffocated him. Over the years, though, he really came to appreciate Rose Explosion.
He left his room, ooting to stop by the kitchen to grab coffee. As it brewed, he pondered on the women who shaped this band, who raised his bandmates.
If they all managed to get along with their mothers, couldn't he?

Family-Friendly New Year’s Eve Breaks
Tumblr media
The Baltics, Scandinavia and Northern Europe are ideal destinations for a family-friendly New Year’s Eve break.
Be dazzled by the beautiful natural phenomenon that’s the Northern Lights, ride dog sleds across the Arctic Tundra, or countdown to the New Year in spectacular cities such as St Petersburg, Riga or Reykjavik.
Sure, it might be ice cold with temperatures dropping well below zero across the region, but the cold weather brings out the best in the locals. You and your family will be well taken care of while experiencing one of the most unique New Year’s Eve holidays anywhere in the world.
Russian New Year Celebrations
Celebrating Christmas and the New Year in Russia is a great way to give the kids two Christmases, because the country is still preparing for its Orthodox celebrations at the start of January.
There are Christmas markets everywhere and Christmas cheer is well and truly in the air. You’ll get to see in the New Year in the grand surroundings of St Petersburg, one of Russia’s most iconic cities.
After celebrating New Year in Russia’s second city, you can take a comfortable high-speed train over to Moscow, the Russian capital. Here you’ll find even more Christmas markets to explore with the family, as well as traditional sights like the Kremlin and Red Square.
Finnish Lapland
Finland makes for a fantastic family-friendly New Year’s Eve break, because Finnish Lapland is the year-round home of Santa Claus.
For young kids, this is a great way to spend the New Year, especially if one Christmas Day wasn’t quite enough for them! Meet Santa Claus in his Lapland village, ride Rudolph’s sleigh through the snow, and enjoy both New Year and Christmas at the same time.
Finnish Lapland is beautiful and you and your family can stay for the duration of your holiday in Finland in a wilderness lodge, experiencing the Northern Lights at night and beautiful, snowy scenery throughout the day.
Swedish Lapland
Lapland is enormous though. If you’re looking for a quieter family getaway over New Year, then look no further than the remote wilderness of Swedish Lapland.
Here, in the icy northern climes of Sweden, the whole family will be amazed by the raw beauty of this untouched part of the world.
But just because it’s remote, doesn’t mean there isn’t comfort or luxury. You can spend New Year relaxing in the unique interior of an ice hotel, enjoying a family meal in a gourmet, wilderness restaurant, or adventuring into the tundra in search of the Northern Lights.
Polar Express Train Journey
If you’re looking for a sightseeing odyssey, then a great family-friendly adventure to enjoy over New Year is a ride on the Polar Express Train.
This excellent train route will take you and your family across Swedish Lapland and into the Norwegian Arctic, giving you the chance to experience the best of these two northerly regions in Europe.
The journey begins in Kiruna in Sweden and ends in Narvik, Norway. Along the way, the family can make the most of dog sledding and snowshoeing activities, enjoy the Northern Lights, and watch endless snowy landscapes glide past from the comfort of the Polar Express.
There are wonderful mixtures of activities to experience and sights to see on the Polar Express train journey, making this a great adventure that all the family can get on board with over the New Year period.
New Year in Riga
However, your family might not be looking for a journey into the wilderness for New Year’s Eve. In which case, there are plenty of city break options awaiting you in the Baltics.
One of the best family-friendly New Year’s Eve breaks can be found in Riga, the understated capital of Latvia. The quiet streets of Riga are a pleasant place to take the family. As well as enjoying all the museums and the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Old Town, there will be some great firework displays and cultural events to see.
There are ice-skating rinks in the capital, markets selling hot food and drinks to beat the chill of New Year and, best of all, it’s not only a family-friendly city but a budget-friendly city too.
New Year in Tallinn
Travel north of Riga, and you can find the equally historic and family-friendly city of the capital of Estonia.
Tallinn is best known for its beautifully preserved Old Town. Over the New Year holidays, the historic centre of this medieval city is transformed into a lively marketplace where you can find delicious food and drinks, and an exciting calendar of cultural events.
Reykjavik
Spending New Year’s Eve in the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik, is sure to be a hit with all the family. This is the Land of Ice and Fire, and for New Year’s Eve the country lights up the cold darkness with spectacular events and festivities.
Reykjavik goes all out at New Year. After spending the day exploring its great museums or relaxing in style at the world-famous Blue Lagoon, you can enjoy fine dining or a gala dinner and concert in the capital.
But there’s more to a family-friendly getaway in Reykjavik than New Year celebrations. Even with just a few days in Iceland, you’ll be able to see the Northern Lights, travel to the steaming geysers and dramatic waterfalls of the Golden Circle, or explore frozen glaciers and icy volcanoes.
To find out more about our range of unforgettable New Year’s Eve breaks, contact Baltic Travel Company today, to plan your ideal family-friendly New Year’s Eve adventure.

The Legal Battle of Flo Rida versus Celsius Holdings, Inc.
By Theodros Fekade, University of Miami Class of 2024
July 24, 2023
Tumblr media
Flo Rida, who is legally known as Tramar Lacel Dillard, rose to global prominence with his 2007 breakthrough hit "Low," which spent multiple weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved Diamond certification by the RIAA. Following Flo Rida's 2007 accomplishments, he has released numerous captivating songs that resulted in sales of over 80 million records worldwide, cementing him as one of the world’s top-selling music talents. Flo Rida’s massive popularity is evident through his vast social media following, with over 900,000 followers on Instagram, over 4 million on Twitter, and over 15 million on Facebook, along with an impressive 4 billion music video views on YouTube.
Originating in Sweden around 2004, Celsius is a highly acclaimed vegan energy drink designed to invigorate daily performance. The Celsius drink is devoid of carbohydrates and enriched with various vitamins and natural ingredients, including green tea and ginger. According to Celsius, the fitness energy drink is also proven to boost metabolism and facilitate body fat burning. (Celsius Holdings, Inc.) With its prestige as a prominent player in the $100 billion worldwide energy drink market, PepsiCo acquired an 8.5% stake that totaled the vast sum of $550 million. (Vanjani)
Observing Flo Rida's immense critical acclaim in the music industry and his significant influence on social media platforms, Celsius forged an endorsement partnership with the artist. The partnership deal entailed that Flo Rida would be a brand ambassador for Celsius in exchange for a substantial number of shares and bonuses contingent on sales performance. (Dellato) As a brand ambassador, Flo Rida had the pivotal role of galvanizing Celsius products to remarkable development and expansion that ultimately led to exponential growth in product revenues and the attraction of numerous investors. (Strong Arm Productions USA, Inc. et al. v. Celsius Holdings, Inc.) In 2018, Flo Rida's music video for the song "Hola" showcased a party atmosphere of individuals drinking Celsius that garnered a staggering 137 million viewers. In 2019, a notable music artist, Doja Cat, directly referred to Celsius in an interview as "Flo Rida’s drink.” (Haroun) The senior management at Celsius acknowledged that their collaboration with Flo Rida had effectively introduced their energy drink to the hundreds of millions of potential customers who follow Flo Rida’s music.
Although Celsius had impeccable success after Flo Rida’s endorsement, Flo Rida accused Celsius of mishandling the exact compensation that he was entitled to receive from the contract. This improper handling of compensation prompted Flo Rida to file a lawsuit in the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida that cited multiple infractions, including breach of contract and unjust enrichment. The lawsuit filed by Flo Rida alleges that Celsius agreed to allocate rights to common stock, some of which were meant to be distributed at the contract’s inception, while additional shares would be issued upon the achievement of designated target sale benchmarks. Despite the evident agreement being ratified, the filed lawsuit asserts that one of the benchmarks in the contract was satisfactorily met unbeknownst to Flo Rida. Analogously, the lawsuit alleges that initial royalties were paid by Celsius, but the corporation failed to provide additional royalties that were owed to Flo Rida after the target number of products sold was satisfied. Similarly, the lawsuit accuses Celsius of utilizing Flo Rida’s name, image, and likeness to unjustly enrich themselves through co-branded products and Flo Rida’s marketing in his brand ambassador role. (Strong Arm Productions USA, Inc. et al. v. Celsius Holdings, Inc.)
In the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida, Flo Rida was awarded a vast sum of $82,640,450 in damages following an exhaustive and scrupulous jury trial. Elated by the jury’s decision, Flo Rida proceeded to launch his own energy drink that is aiming to surpass Celsius in terms of health benefits. Flo Rida proclaimed that due to the fact that he inculcated the rise of Celsius from obscurity to notoriety, he is confident in his ability to replicate the success of Celsius and bolster his financial portfolio through his new entrepreneurial endeavor. (Lane)
Ensuring the contentment of brand ambassadors has perpetually posed a challenge for corporations that strive to substantially elevate their financial sustainability. When engaging with celebrities, corporations must recognize that the business and legal landscape is transitioning towards a transparent stock compensation system. Ignoring this evolving environment may leave corporations vulnerable to being outperformed in marketing efforts by more adaptable and innovative competitors who have embraced the industry's evolution.

Alright, Swedish kräftskiva, let's go!
The reason for the party is that it marks the start of the crayfish fishing season, which traditionally starts in early August. The European Crayfish is a native species to Sweden, and it lives in freshwater lakes and rivers.
However in the early 1900's a fungal disease, the crayfish plague, started spreading in Sweden and the rest of Europe, decimating the crayfish population. In the 1960's, in order to meet the demand, people started introducing the North American Signal Crayfish in Sweden and the rest of Europe, since it is much more resistant to the plague. Unfortunately, this also meant that it started outcompeting the European crayfish, so that one is now considered a critically endangered species.
Because Swedes consume way more crayfish than can be sustainably fished, most crayfish is imported, and because of logistics, most is frozen during transport. So there's a wide range of quality, and therefore price, which translates into an obvious class marker: What kind of crayfish are you having at your party? A rough ranking looks something like this:
Fresh, Swedish
Fresh, European (Turkey and Spain, mainly)
Frozen, Swedish
Frozen, European
Frozen, Rest of the world (US and China, mainly)
Note that the imported ones are made for the Swedish market, so Sweden exports a lot of dill to these countries, so that the crayfish can be prepared to Swedish taste.
Tumblr media
The Party
The point of the party isn't the food itself, it's that you have to work for your food, everyone peels their own crayfish, it's messy, it's fun, and you get to drink schnapps and sing drinking songs in-between! Wheee! Hell and Gore!
Everyone peels and eats as much of each crayfish as they want. The tail is the easiest part to eat, most people crack the claws and get at the meat in there, and some people crack the main shell and get at the goop there, but personally that is beyond what I can stomach. You may use a shellfish knife to extract the meat, but most people just use their hands.
At a minimum, you need the crayfish and the aquavit. You can always expect to find bread, typically toast, or just sliced bread and some cheese. A lot of people like to add a cheese pie as a side dish, preferably Västerbottenpaj.
Some people like to buy extra crayfish tails or already-peeled tails. That is cheating, and I do not condone this absolutely terrible behaviour.
The silly hats, the bibs, and the lanterns are all optional, but again, the point of he party is the experience, not the food, which is why a lot of people do it. It's fun, and it gets funnier the more you drink!
You can also expand your party to be more of a general seafood party, by serving shrimp, saltwater langustines, and oysters perhaps? I think that it would make the party fancier, but also less of a kräftskiva.
As a general rule though, a kräftskiva is not fine dining. It's going to be messy, and although you can have water bowls for people to rinse their hands in, mostly you just make sure there are wet wipes and plenty of napkins for when people are done.
Main differences vs a US Crawdad Boil
In the US South there's a bunch of different traditions around seafood fests. I would say that the main differences are these:
All the food is cold. The crayfish aren't served freshly cooked, and they're not served with any hot food like potatoes or corn cobs or anything like that.
It's seasoned differently. You traditionally add dill, ale and a bit of sugar when you boil the crayfish, so they taste mostly of dill and salt. Absolutely no cajun seasoning, no chili or hot seasoning of any kind.
There's less crayfish. Because they mostly have to be imported they are comparatively more expensive, so don't expect a mountain of Louisiana crawdads.
Young Royals-specific notes
I would expect Wilhelm, and all the other rich kids, to have been to a bunch of kräftskivor, at least one per year. I would expect them to have only ever had fresh Swedish ones, maybe fresh European ones, but frozen crayfish would be completely beneath them.
I would expect Simon and Sara to maybe have been to a few kräftskivor, or maybe even none at all. If they've been, they would have had frozen imported ones. They would definitely know about the tradition, they would know a couple of snapsvisor, but they might not know how to eat a crayfish. Since it's an alcohol-centered party, like so many other Swedish holidays, they might have had bad experiences because of Micke's alcoholism. And because of that, it's unlikely that Linda would host one after they separated.
Hope that's enough detail to play around with!
We’re going to attempt going back to work today. Let’s hope we aren’t overwhelmed! I’m really going to try and pace myself.
A parting question for any of my Swedish or Swedish-adjacent folks about kräftskiva, which relates to the fic I’m working on… seems like you pick the crayfish out of their shells yourself. Is there a particular place you put the shells when you’re done picking a crayfish? Like are they on your plate, or is there a little pot for them or something? Or are they just on the table? Also are there any particular class markers in how people eat and pick the crayfish, or is it pretty much the same regardless of social class?
Asking because I’m from the corner of the US where we do blue crab feasts, and there is very much A Way The Table Looks two hours into things. (And also there are particular ways in which people get Wounded from picking the crabs. Old Bay in cuts just stings in a very particular way!) So I wanted to make sure I’m getting the crustacean nuances correct, as someone from a culture that is all about the crustacean nuances.

thinking about bill and tiger going on a winter road trip around the rural parts of europe. they take turns driving and eat at awful for you restaurants, go to all the cheesy tourist attractions, and a spontaneous mini golf sesh because tiger made a bet she could beat him. and once they get to their first stop, he goes in for a sweet kiss once they’re settled, but it naturally progresses into something more intimate. soft gasps, little giggles when he accidentally tickles her, and they have sex to the sound of the fireplace cracking.... brb gonna cry for a bit -🧚‍♀️
Ohhhhh bullseye, baby.
I don’t know if it’s just my Canadian side talking--we’re basically just a few chromosomes away from being polar bears--but there is something deeply engrained in me, something that really loves the winter. I am an autumn girl through and through, but something about winter is just...undeniably magical. Yes, sometimes it’s awful--the road conditions, the slippery sidewalks, the -40C, the 8 feet of snow that gets dumped on us weekly. But there’s also such a mysticism to it, a uniqueness, a lovely and serene quality.
There is the way that the bright snow illuminates a dark night--soft blankets just coating everything. It’s the way that it somehow makes everything much more quiet--most who have experienced cold winters can tell you that there is indeed silence that most of us associate with only the winter months, when the snow just seems to insulate everything and block out all echoes. A peacefulness. There’s the bright winter sky that is somehow just impossibly blue, a blue that you only see in January or February, and usually when the temperatures drop to insufferable degrees that no human should live through. The coldest days bring the brightest skies, and it’s a blue I’ve never seen anywhere else in the world. It’s the different kinds of snow that fall--soft and powdery, the type you want to just pelt at each other, or heavy and wet--the perfect kind for making a snowman.
Bill said a few years ago that the winters in Toronto were the coldest he had ever felt, and I felt some weird Canadian pride that we had successfully beaten a Nordic man into wintery submission. To boot--Toronto ain’t even all that cold compared to our prairie brethren. I wonder if he’s ever visited Landon in February.
In any case, despite its tribulations, winter holds a special place in my heart--and winter in Europe? Oh man. The November/December trip I took to Oslo and Copenhagen two years ago was the prettiest thing I had ever seen--Europe does cozy winter right. Everything is warm drinks, big knits, patios outside with heating lamps, blankets on chairs. It’s beautiful.
And maybe this trip is kind of her dream--but listen, for non-Europeans, driving in Europe can be terrifying, you know? I nearly get killed when I just try to cross the street on foot, let alone attempting to drive. But Bill grew up in these countries, traveled all over ‘em, and he’s more than fine with driving. Maybe he doesn’t even tell tiger the plan--he has a rough outline, but he keeps it secret. Tiger just thinks its the greatest thing, hitting the road in Europe with her big dude. He drives everywhere, confident and calm, through snowy mountains in a nice car, holding her hand. Maybe they start in France, drive on over to Switzerland. He rents a small room in a beautiful log cabin in the Alps, and it’s all fire place and cheese fondue and huge, fur blankets on the bed. They take a fondue tour. They hop on a beautiful scenic train that takes them around the country in a day. They go ice skating (he won’t let her ski, he’s not falling for that again). They drink mulled wine on their outdoor heated patio when they get back, all red noses and huddled together. They absolutely have sex under a blanket in front of the fire place, and it’s intimate and warm, both of their skin glowing in the soft light of the fire. The bed is huge, a big wooden frame complete with four posts, but they sleep glued to each other. He stuffs her silly, full of melty cheese fondue and raclette.
Maybe they head to Austria from there, he brings her to all the small pastry shops he knows of. He takes her prancing through the famous garden, takes her on a hot chocolate tour, gets enough chocolate snacks for the road. He brings her to Mozart’s house, introduces her to her first Mozartkugel, and he has to forbid her from eating anymore wiener schnitzel because she almost made herself sick. Maybe if it’s around Christmas time, he takes her to a few Christmas markets.
Then they head up to Germany, the whole time locked in an intense debate about glugg versus gluhwein--tiger can’t tell the difference, she just likes both but it’s very important, kid--maybe Bill has to stop along a few roads, let a herd of mountain goats go by. Even the ROADS are pretty in Europe. They stop for snacks in roadside restaurants and shacks, and god even the small motels along the way from country to country are just so beautiful. He takes her to all the German Christmas markets, hosts an elaborate mulled wine tasting (see tiger? glugg is so much better), feeds her bratwursts. Tiger is amazed that Bill can literally down an entire 1L stein of beer in just a few gulps, along with a pretzel the size of his face. In fact, maybe this time it’s tiger that has to intervene--Bill had 4 pretzels in a row and as he went for a fifth, she yanked him the other way. Got him a sausage on a stick instead, because somehow that’s better.
They head up to Scandinavia from there--a quick stop in Denmark, and that is entirely at tiger’s request. Bill’s Swedish side says fuck Denmark. But he takes her shopping on Stroget, tries to get her to properly pronounce stegt flæsk med persillesovs, maybe even takes her for a romantic stroll near Tivoli. Tiger makes the cardinal sin of mentioning that Danish Gløgg is her favourite so far and Bill almost like, smacks the mug out of her hands. They eat aebelskiver, and she laughs when he gets powdered sugar all over his nose. They stay a night or two in a beautiful little inn, before hopping back in the car.
Tiger loves that she’s just not worrying about anything. Bill knows how to gas up in Europe. He knows how the roads work. He knows how to park and read the parking signs. He knows where they can stop and get food, he knows where they can stay--tiger is just in the passenger seat, holding his big hand, and she’s glowing. He gets her a cute winter hat, a warmer pair of mittens when she’s cold. They pick up a few beautiful Christmas ornaments along the way, because the Christmas markets are just too beautiful not to.
They finally end back up in Sweden, but they’re not done yet. Bill drives way north into the countryside, where it’s dark all the time and where you can see the Northern Lights. He knows his way around--he rents a glass igloo for a few nights, gets a ski doo, drives her out to the middle of nowhere and parks it. The Northern Lights light up the entire sky, and tiger swears she’s never seen anything so beautiful in her life. She cries about it--god granny would have loved this. He hugs her and tells her to try to stop--wet tears on cold cheeks is never a good thing.
They sleep that night on their backs, still huddled together, watching the lights dance across the sky. He convinces her to try reindeer the next morning--tiger is a big fan of Christmas and eating reindeer just seems wrong--but it’s a pretty normal thing out there. She hates how much she loves it. And it’s a great way for him to reveal their next destination--none other than Santa Claus’ legit village, in Rovaniemi, Finland. Her squeal is so loud it nearly cracks the glass igloo.

Devil in disguise 3/3
Summary: You weren’t the girl who get attention from guys. You were the friend that always ended up alone at the bar, nursing her drink until you got home by yourself, while your friends took home someone. That’s how you suppossed this night would go to. Until an Apple Martini you didn’t order was set down in front of you. Looking around to make out who had ordered it for you, you saw him. John Wick.

It was noon when you woke up. And you felt sore in all the right places, a smile sneaking to your face as you looked up at John, your head still resting on his chest.
How could this man have killed people for a living? He was so gentle when he was with you. Breathing in deep you sighed as you breathed out. You loved him. You really did. All you had to do, was to tell him.
“Princess?” He whispered, making you smile.
“Yes?” You whispered back.
“I think I love you.” He opened his eyes as he said those words. Looking at him with big eyes for seconds you burst out laughing.
“I'm sorry... It's just... I think you can read my mind.” You said as John looked at you with a blank face.
“I was thinking about how I love you just before you said it.” You looked up at him and could see him breathe out relieved before his arms pulled you up to him, you lying on top as he brought his lips to yours. Feeling his hands on your naked body you sighed.
“Aren't you hungry?” You asked against his lips as his hands slowly massaged your back, sneaking lower.
“Not for food.” He groaned and pulled the covers over you.
“So, the things you did...” You said as you laid with your head propped on his lap the day before your final exam.
“Yes.” John said looking down at you.
“Was it easy for you? Like I don't want to get in it too deep because I know you don't do that anymore... You don't, don't you?” You asked.
“I don't. Never will again.” He nodded.
“Like how did you even get into doing this? And why did the people look away when you walked by them? And... And that is a question I was always most curious about, how much money does someone like you get?” You babbled, not being able to stop yourself. John brushed away a stray of hair and sighed before he began to talk and told you everything.
With tears in your eyes, you looked up at him as he finished, reaching for his hand, kissing his palm.
“I'll keep you safe from this world from now on.” You whispered.
Smiling he looked down at you. His fingers tracing the lines of your face.
“Have you thought about what you wanna do now?” You asked, wondering if now was the time to tell him that you had put on some applications for your residency across Europe and already got one offer.
“I put the house on the market and I was thinking about going to Europe. I can do my book stuff from all over the world. But...” He stopped.
“But?” You asked.
“I don't want to leave you. God that sounded cheesy.” He shook his head chuckling.
“We've only known each other for like 6 weeks.” You said and he nodded.
“But what if I would tell you I had sent out applications for my residency to Europe? And what would you say if I already have one offer out of these.”
“Are you serious?” John asked and you only nodded, slowly pushing yourself up, straddling him, your arms crossed behind his neck.
“So if I don't fail my exam..”
“You won't.”
“And say I would move to Stockholm to work there...” You smiled.
“Sweden?” He asked you nodded.
“I could live in Sweden.” He said quietly.
“You could.” You said softly.
“We could live in Sweden together.”
“We should.” You nodded.
“Yeah?” He grinned.
“Absolutely.” You smiled back before his lips captured yours in a sweet kiss.
John took you out to dinner to celebrate you passing your last exam. You looked at yourself in the mirror, your red dress hugging your body, ending just beneath your knee, leaving your shoulders free. Straightening it with the palm of your hands you smiled at yourself as you put your earrings in. You had put a little more effort into your looks today. It was the first time John was taking you out. With you being busy studying and John wrapping up his old life you didn't really get to go out.
You had styled your longish growing hair in big waves, your lips painted sinfully red, the same color as your dress. Nothing and no one would ruin this night for you. You heard a knock on your door.
“Coming!” You called, slipping into your high heels, grabbing your black purse. Opening the door you bit your lip as you saw John. He was wearing one of his dark suits but with a white dress shirt, no tie and the first 2 buttons opened. It looked like he had a new haircut, an inch or two missing in its length. He was holding a single white rose in his hand.
“You look absolutely breathtaking.” He said, bending down to kiss you softly, his hand resting on your hip as you brought one of your hands up to touch his chest.
“You look hot too.” You whispered against his lips, making him grin.
“This is too much John.” You said after he had sat down across from you. You looked through the elegant room, admiring the clean design. This must cost a fortune.
“It's our first date. And we're celebrating you getting your PhD.” He said warmly, reaching for your hand across the table.
Sighing you took his hand, smiling.
“Good Evening Mr. Wick.” You were interrupted as the waiter brought the menu.
John only nodded, taking the menu as you took yours, the waiter walking away.
“They know you here?” You asked quietly.
He nodded. “Sorry. I don't think there is a place in Manhattan I can go where no one knows who I am.” He apologized.
“That's kinda hot.” You grinned before you hid your face behind the menu.
The food was extraordinary. It had to be the tastiest meal you had ever had. Apart from John's lasagna of course. John paid before you could even glance at the bill, making you glare at him. You knew about his wealth. He had told you that he probably wouldn't have to work for a single day again in his life and still would have more than enough money left. That wasn't something you were used to. You never had anyone handing you anything. You worked and worked hard so you could live a comfortable life. Always had.
“What are you thinking about?” John asked, his hand holding yours as you walked down the crosswalk.
“You.” You smiled a little, looking up from your side at him.
“Only good things I hope.” He teased.
“Always good things.” You said, leaving his hand and bringing your arm around his back, sneaking under his jacket, your head resting on his shoulder.
“You have another week off, don't you?” He asked as he put his arm around you, bringing you closer to his side, as you continued walking down the street towards where he had parked his car.
“Yeah.”
“What do you think about taking a short trip into the sun?”
“That sounds like something I can't afford.” You said right away, making him sigh as he stopped walking. Looking up at him, you saw his frown.
“If this is going to work you need to let me take care of you. Do you want to go on a trip?” He asked.
Sighing you nodded.
“Then let's go on a trip. You deserve it.” He leaned down, kissing your nose, making you giggle.
“I love you, John.” You smiled at him.
“Love you too.” He smiled back.
“I do need a new bathing suit if we're going on a trip.”
“No, you don't.” He grinned, letting his hand rest on your ass, making you shake your head chuckling.
“Yes, I do.” You scolded him with a smile on your face.
“Fine.” He shrugged.
Shopping. Why did you agree to go shopping in an actual store? With people? There was a reason you preferred online shopping. First of all, you could spend hours on your couch browsing for the cheapest option. Then you could order 2, sometimes 3 sizes because no size was ever the same. And then you could try it on at home. But with him booking a short trip, leaving tomorrow you had to go to the store.
John insisted on coming with you. He also insisted on paying and you just couldn't say no to him as he looked down at you with his eyes, pleading you.
Nadia had shown you the store you were in now, because against your better judgment and saving money everywhere you could, you were drawing a line at buying underwear, or in your case today a new bathing suit. And maybe some new lingerie, now that you had someone who could peel it off of you.
“You look like you're having fun.” You teased John as he browsed through the shelves. He was standing in front of a black lace bodysuit that left little to the imagination.
“Just picturing you wearing this.” He whispered as he leaned down to you, kissing your cheek. Nodding you grinned.
“What about you pick 3 and I pick 3? And then we decide.”
“Do I get to watch you try it on?” He asked, eyebrow raised, his eyes wickedly grinning at you.
“If you're a very good boy.” You whispered back, patting his chest as you turned around to head for the swimsuits. Looking over your shoulder, you saw him watching you, making you grin to yourself.
Rolling your eyes at yourself as you looked at you in the floor-length mirror you sighed. How could it be that not any of the bathing suits you had tried on fitted? Either they sat great on your chest but were not wide enough on your hip or the other way around.
Exhausted you sighed. Maybe you should go naked after all. Putting on the bikini John had picked out you were surprised that it actually fit and you looked good in it. The high waist making your ass look the perfect shape.
“How is it going in there?” You heard John ask from outside.
“Wanna take a look?” You asked. You saw the curtain shuffle before John's head appeared. Turning around you put a hand on your hip, looking at him as his eyes darkened.
“What do you think?”
“Nothing I can tell you while we're in public.” He said, voice hoarse, making you grin. It was like a moment of clarity. Never would you let the outside world drag you down again. Not when you had someone like John Wick who looked at you like you were his whole world.
“Okay. So we found a bathing suit. I'll be trying on the rest now.” You said your eyes glancing at the very little fabric John had picked out.
“I want to see every single one of those before we buy them.” He said.
“I will think about it, Mr. Wick.” You stepped towards him, pecking him on the lips, before you pushed him out, making him laugh.
Pulling on the bodysuit John had eyed in the beginning you couldn't help the dirty grin on your face. You looked good. Sexy even. About to call for John you heard a voice outside, you knew all too well. Stepping closer to the curtain you listened.
“What are you doing here John? Need something to wear?” It was Nadia.
“Actually here to pick up some stuff for my girlfriend, Miss Tarasov.” You heard John reply.
“Uhh... Girlfriend? That must be the first time I hear you use that phrase for one of your affairs.” Nadia teased. You could picture her stupid grin as she said it. Nadia had been a great friend in the beginning. Helping you study for your first exam. That's how you met her. As you were learning anatomy in a Starbucks and she had been fascinated by it. But over the years it got less and less the more she only seemed to care about the men around her.
You could almost picture John standing in front of her, trying not to roll his eyes. Deciding that it was time to rescue him you took a last look at you in the mirror.
“John? Babe? I need some help!” You called before you opened the curtain revealing just your upper body, your eyes searching for his. Nadia was standing in front of him with nothing but a bra and her jeans on. Pathetic, you thought to yourself.
As both of them turned to look at you, you could almost see the relief in his eyes, followed by his eyes darkening as he spotted the lace you were wearing.
Nadia blinked a couple of times as if she wanted to make sure she was seeing right.
“Her?” She asked scuffing, her eyes so full of judgment as she looked at you.
“Yes. Her.” John said smiling before he left her standing, pulling the curtain to the side and stepping into the dressing room, closing the curtain behind him.
You were leaning against the mirror as he looked at you, his eyes roaming over your whole body as if he was about to eat you.
Stepping closer to you he closed his eyes, breathing in deep.
“You have no idea what you do to me.” He whispered. Looking up at him, you reached for his bulge, already feeling his cock hard, stretching the fabric of his pants.
“I have some idea...” You whispered before his lips crashed down on yours. Taking your hands in his he put them over your head, stepping closer to you, pushing his body against yours. Moaning into his mouth as you felt him rub himself against you, you let your head fall back, his lips leaving yours to kiss down your neck.
“John.. We can't... Not here...”
“I know.” He groaned against your neck, his hands still keeping your pressed against the mirror.
“Doesn't change the fact that I want you.” He said, nibbling on your earlobe.
“Then let's get home.” You moaned quietly, arching your back to get some friction.
“But you haven't tried everything on yet.” He whispered, his hands leaving yours, his fingers pushing down the straps of your bodysuit.
“And you're going to help me?” You asked, biting your lip as he kissed the top of your breasts.
“I am certainly not going out there alone.” He whispered, his mouth closing around your nipple, making you moan his name louder than intended, you hand flying over your mouth as he chuckled.
“If you don't stop...” You whispered as he slowly peeled the bodysuit off of you, throwing it on the seat in the corner of the dressing room, leaving you in you nude panties you had put on today.
“What then?” He asked, kneeling down in front of you.
“Jonathan.” You breathed in as you felt his hands on your thigh. He was looking up at you as he leaned closer, pulling your leg over his shoulder, kissing your inner thigh.
“Can you keep quiet?” He asked, his finger pushing your panties to the side.
“I don't think so.” You whimpered, as his finger brushed through your folds.
“Then make sure to scream my name so she can hear you,” John whispered against you before his tongue flicked over your clit.
Your serotonin was at such a high level you couldn't even be embarrassed as you stepped out of the dressing room, John and you walking hand in hand towards the cashier. The whole store probably had heard the two of you as he fucked you against the mirror, but you couldn't bring yourself to care.
“Found everything?” The lady cashier asked trying to hide her grin.
“Oh yes. Everything.” You grinned at her, catching Nadia in the far corner looking at you as John put all the stuff you had tried on on the desk. He bent down to kiss your cheek before he searched for his wallet, putting his credit card on the table before you could even reach for your purse.
Shaking your head you watched as everything you bought was put in bags.
“Dinner is on me.” You said, leaving no room to argue.
“Yes, Princess.” He said as he grabbed the bags, his arms coming around your shoulder. Not even looking at Nadia as you walked past her you smiled as you stepped outside, leading John to your favorite Chinese restaurant.
You were surprised by what the right amount of money could do when you had decided to leave the country.
You had taken the job at the hospital in Stockholm which would start within 6 weeks of accepting the offer. Which left you panicking if you could take care of all the things one had to take care of before leaving the country and moving to another one. John had sold his house in Mills Neck you never had seen for a HUGE amount of money and had presented you with three houses near Stockholm he was eyeing to buy.
“I guess we're really doing this.” You said as you sat on his lap, Dog beside you as he showed you pictures of the houses.
“We are.” He said, his cheek against yours as both of you watched what he had picked out.
“I love this one. It's a seafront house with a huge garden.”
“It's also the most expensive one.” You added, making him sigh.
“Ignore the price. Do you like it?” He asked.
You loved it. If someone told you to describe your dream home it would be this. It looked like a little ranch directly at the sea. A jetty for a little boat or two. It was newly renovated and looked straight out of your dreams.
“I love it.” You sighed.
“Then let's buy it.”
“John... I can't just let you buy and take care of everything. What if this doesn't work out? Between us?” You asked quietly. You felt his arm tighten around you.
“Do you think it won't?”
“No. Actually, I am waiting for the day we argue for the first time. It's all so new. I never felt like that before.”
“Like what?” He asked. Turning your head to look into his eyes you breathed in deep.
“Like I'm home. I love you so much it scares me sometimes. You love me for me. You see me. With you beside me, I feel safe. I don't even see the other people judging me anymore. And we've only known each other for two months but I don't think I can ever live without you anymore.” You felt the tears in your eyes. John looked at you with so much love.
“Marry me.” He said, adding your name.
Looking at him with an open mouth you tried to talk but couldn't.
“Not now. Not tomorrow, just. Marry me. Some day.” He added, his hand reaching for your cheek, his thumb brushing over your bottom lip. Swallowing you felt yourself nod.
“Yes. I'll marry you. Some day.” You smiled.
“Yeah?” He asked smiling happily.
“Yes, John.” You grinned before you leaned into him and kissed him.
“Did you use my name?” You asked as you parted. Grinning he nodded at you.
“How long did you know?”
“From the night we met.” He smiled, making you shake your head grinning before you kissed him again.
Learning Swedish was harder than you thought it would be. But you loved learning new things. You had left the states almost 4 months ago, making it the best decision of your life as you took the job in Stockholm. Even more, you loved the fact that you got to do everything with John. He was standing at the water, enjoying the last rays of sunshine for the day. You had come home form your last shift only minutes ago, Dog welcoming you at the door as you pulled off your work clothes. You could see that he had been working in the garden the whole day, his skin glistening with sweat in the sunlight as you sneaked towards him, only wearing your long tank top and your underwear. It was a hot summer in Sweden.
Kissing his back before you put your arms around him, your head resting on his back you breathed him in.
“Hey.” You said.
“Hey, Princess. Long day?” He asked, turning his head so he could look at you.
“Longest day. I'm dead tired. All I want is a shower, a pizza, and my bed. The garden looks great.”
“Thank you.” He said, turning in your arms, putting his around yours.
“Pizza will be here in 30 minutes.”
“God, I love you.” You smiled exhausted as you looked up at him.
“You only love me for my ability to provide you with food after work.” He teased.
“That might be true.” You shrugged, sucking your bottom lip in to keep you from grinning.
“You shouldn't have said that.” He said lowly, picking you up in his arms.
“John...” You said carefully.
“JOHN!” You laughed, clinging to his chest as he walked to the jetty.
“You wanted a shower” he grinned before he ran towards the edge jumping into the water with you in his arms, making you scream.
“Not like that.” You pouted as you surfaced from under the water, swimming towards him.
Pulling you to his chest he grinned at you.
“We have 30 minutes.”
“Better be quick then.” You grinned back before you kissed him.

:: BTS As Your Vampire Boyfriends
warnings ⚠️ smut, blood mentions, fangs kink
♡ Includes places they gravitate towards and countries they lived in, with their current residence in italics. Imagined in a world where a vampire bite will not convert a human, but rather, where species coexist without interference.
↳ NOTE › fuck yeah, bangtan vamps! some bits are juicier, some fluffier, some funny, some heart-wrenching or romantic. you’re in for a surprise 🤓 enjoy!
Tumblr media
⌈ Jimin ⌋ ➝ Urban Vampire. 20 years old. USA, Italy, Sweden. Dresses like your typical haute couture vanguard, complete with bow ties and fishnets. Always has the latest pop culture news from SNS to chat about. Majors in? You guessed it, fashion design. Frequents high-rise apartments of his talkative New Yorker friends, wears huge square shades to fend off sunlight whenever he can. But also just because. The new boutique around the corner? Jimin was the first one to buy that 307$ gleaming Versace choker when it opened. In gold. He might have gotten the $520 guilty pleasure loafers as well. Yes, he does own more shoes than you do. 90 pairs to be exact, it needs a separate closet. He will try on several a night even when you don’t go out and just kiss watching a movie. What on earth is the reason behind all that? It’s to look good for your human eyes only. After all, he can’t see himself in the mirror. If he’s bound to outlive you by fate, he says, at least you’ll get to see him at his very best for the time being. He condenses several of his future lives into the limited one with you. A dazzling outfit can be that diversion and solace. Changing it often makes him feel like living faster, even if he’s headed for immortality. You decided to get a couple wrist tattoo on that last September. Carpe Diem, seize the day.
So there’s a lot to do together. Bucket list after bucket list. But there’s still a routine. Jimin loves destroying his friends at Friday night bowling yet can’t help but let you win every time. No matter how much you provoke him, the guy will aim at the gutters. You actually met at bowling back then. Eleven months ago, at your bff’s b-day party where he was introduced to you as Park, inofficial Prince of Manhattan with a love for sweet blood, orgies, and fiery ladies. The orgies part turned out to be a rumor, but he does say you have sweet blood. Even if it’s bad etiquette among vampires and he knows how much of a vice it is, Jimin loves to subtly show off in front of werewolves and witchers with popular ig accounts about how affluent his vampire family is at underground runway shows. Or sometimes, even fancy dinners where he orders dish after dish for the two of you. His friends suspect it’s all to compensate for how small his canines are since Jimin dearly wishes they were pointier. You’ve assured him that it’s not just better for your neck but also oral sex in general. He’s devilishly good at that. A born lover. Small canines are cute and fashionable anyways, all other talk is bogus. Having a vampire boyfriend remains a special feat and wild ride. But it’s definitely worth it.
Tumblr media
⌈ Yoongi ⌋ ➝ Metro Vampire. 27 years old. Japan, Nigeria, South Korea. Dressed in all black, hoodies and stretchy jeans galore. Studied dental sciences in Lagos and has quite some polished teeth himself, but hardly puts them to use nowadays because he’s been getting more Zen about it. Instead, he can’t live without the internet. It distracts him from any urges and thinking about the future, and teaches his inquisitive mind about everything he needs to know about navigating the wide human world beyond the subway. He travels from station to station in Sapporo with a ticket for eternity and the security of less sunlight, always in search for the best Wi-Fi to text you. Even after two years of dating, Yoongi is still fangs over heels in love. And, needless to say, fascinated by the antics of humankind. When you are preoccupied with work at a restaurant in the afternoon, he jobs as a casual broker with contacts to the griffin elites that run the financial market of mystical creatures.
He frequently jokes that metro vampires are in fact metrosexual. Sometimes visits casinos to kill some time and watch people out of curiosity. His magical ability has caused several power downs in nearby flat complexes — strangely, never the one he is in — but its purpose and origin remain unknown. He’s consulted a supposedly wise street demon about it once but only got a long burp as an answer. Rude. So he travels on and on with the tube. He’s not as much on the go as it always seems, however. Yoongi spends a lot of his time gaming and lounging in your basement. Pretty much naked even if you don’t have sweaty sex at 3 AM. Although, when is it not 3 AM. You’ve developed a little late-night routine there. You bring him coffee, chat, make out, he buzzes you off with your favorite vibrator, you give him slow blowjobs that he records on his phone with shaky hands. Sometimes, with rimming involved, and more action later that night. Yoongi needs to eat pussy to stay on track, otherwise, he falls apart. He’s longing to kiss your breasts all the time and you hold hands when it gets steamy. No biting, he controls himself since he took too much one time. Because he hates planes, Yoongi once crossed the Atlantic in a cargo ship’s high cube not having blood for weeks. After compelling him to suck your whole body off cause dammit I’ve missed your lips, too, vamp guy, you were iron deficient for a month. Yoongi, forever apologetic, has made it a habit to buy you vitamin juice ever since, and orders his blood online.
Tumblr media
⌈ Jungkook ⌋ ➝ Forest Vampire. 261 years old. Canada, Bolivia, Ukraine. Dressed in a large flaxen coat and heavy boots. Owns a distant log cabin between scenic, dense firs in the Rocky Mountains. Where most of his day is all about chopping and stacking firewood to take his laser focus off blood cravings and not so random boners. He daydreams of you moaning in just about every hot position possible. Sometimes pleasuring yourself or grinding on his cock. And your fucking scent. It’s what really makes him hard. And tremendously flustered. He could be 261 million years old, it would still catch him off guard to suddenly remember the smell of your sweat and hair. The first time experiencing it, Jungkook shortly blacked out and salivated on the ground for 15 minutes. Human pheromones are just about every forest vampire’s favorite addiction. Out of all BTS members, he is the most sensitive to light or artificial noise and instinct-reliant, so he tries to be cautious. Regardless, always hoping that you fill his mind with your red-hot image. This guy is so whipped — at this point, he can sell a portion of the wood he chops daily and still heat the oven for weeks with the rest.
Nature has everything he desires. Silence, vastness. It’s peaceful. A lot of animals roam the area. It calms his fantasies to some degree. He’s spent many decades in the Amazon rainforest, its no surprise. He likes to watch deer and talks to the occasional satyr past midnight. Doesn’t own a lot of money, but knows how to prepare a hearty meal for you when you visit him. That’s what makes JK feel like a million dollars. And once the plate is empty: Time for carnal sex. He can fuck for two hours, one even on a bad day. When he drinks from you, the sheer neck stimulation through sucks alone can make you approach orgasm. With a little help from his fingers on your clit, boy is he gonna blow your mind. This shit will teleport you into alien dimensions. He won’t aim for anything less. Whatever his saliva does, it infuses you with serotonin for two, three days after, and your friends back home know with one glance: Cabin guy did it again. You’ll both be lightheaded and covered in hickeys by the end of your encounters if the weather is particularly indoorsy and you don’t go fishing. He wishes he’d never have to come to a city because of the bustling streets and lack of forest fairies that soothe his mind. But sometimes, buying new clothes is due. You go to a comparatively manageable shopping mall after rush hour where you can’t keep your hands off each other in the dressing rooms. Life with JK won’t ever bore you, that’s guaranteed. The cherry on top: He wields an unregistered type of magic that can manipulate all kinds of water streams — he’s created a little creak beside his cabin and named it after you.

⌈ Seokjin ⌋ ➝ Cottage Vampire. 311 years old. Switzerland, Morocco, and Mongolia. Dresses all cozy with big sweaters and trench coats. Jin sells self-grown fruit and vegetables at the market downtown on Saturdays and Sundays. With vivid gestures and plenty of small talk topics up his sleeve, he befriends just about any stranger with two minutes spare time to talk about cheese, chocolate, and the notoriously high prices. Jin is among the most popular stall owners because of the many discounts he grants literally anybody. The Swiss way of very neat, organized, and especially neutral living appeals to Jin who has seen far too many messy wars go down since he was turned into a vampire. You didn’t believe it at first: By a British royal named Hamish back in 1708, inheriting him a magical ability to learn languages particularly fast so his Swiss German is perfected to a T. Jin is an utmost textbook rural sweetheart of the village. He takes care of the cottage with you like clockwork. Watering the herbs, painting walls here and there, cleaning the kitchen, always saying hi to the neighbors. Drinking tea on the terrace, with some cheesecake and cream on the fork, watching the cornfields sway in the wind is the good life. Simple, but meaningful.
There are a lot of lively and busy little blackbirds around the house joining you to pick up some crumbs, and Jin turns on the radio to play old-fashioned folk music of whatever Alp orchestra was recorded thirty years ago. The cake is gone all too soon, and the sun sets. You’re happy. Jin is a loyal and moral vampire who has adopted a vegetarian diet ten years ago and didn’t look back once. No cheating! Even if the market sells a lot of tasty ham and sausages. He’s sworn off that. After 311 years, even vampires start to think about their diet. A lot of fellow vamps in the area think he’s one strange guy, but Jin won’t bother. He gets all of his blood from a nearby hospital for a hefty price because he doesn’t want to drink from you all the time no matter how much you ask him. Sex is a better pastime. Chocolate lover Kim got a big dick and decades worth of time developing how to use it. Jin, when he does nibble at you, also has a very pleasant bite that doesn’t leave marks or just about any kind of bruise. He doesn’t want to tell you his secret because apparently, an old and rather nit-picky basilisk told him. Somewhere in a dusty attic of a Marrakesh craft store selling lamps and the most splendid of perfumes, 170 years ago. If he spills the beans, the special trick is dissolved. So... hush. Some things are better left top secret when it comes to basilisk magic.

⌈ Taehyung ⌋ ➝ Museum Vampire. 750 years old. Paris, London, and Sydney. Always dons crisp vintage tuxedos in the muted, heavily tailored style of the 1920s. He’s gotten attached to that era. Unsurprisingly, museum vampires are truly nostalgic creatures. Perhaps, also a bit melancholic at one point. Immortality is a two-edged sword. So, Taehyung clings to everything that endures the times. Statues, rustic vases, coin collections, preserved tunics, temple relics, especially fossils of all kind. His favorite place to roam at night is the museum shop or department for Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities. And indeed, it is the Louvre, what other museum could it be. Taehyung has mastered a convenient invisibility spell at the whooping age of 142 by chance after sneaking around the graveyard of Montmartre, trying to blend in with some friendly ghosts who taught him a trick or two. So the CCTV and guards don’t pick up on him unless he manipulates objects displayed in the exhibitions.
Which he feels tempted to. But Taehyung prefers to meet you in a snug alley café at dawn. The one where they don’t serve garlic-heavy dishes. You’ve already seen so much of the museum together in the course of a 4-year relationship. And he can’t possibly dick you down in the gallery of Dutch and Italian masters no matter how horny either of you is, mind you. You’d get anemic fast if you’d be sucking and fucking all the time anyways, and Taehyung really isn’t down to take a lot of blood from you. A little, as you always call it, prick’n’lick is what he usually goes for when you have time to meet in your flat. And maybe a deep, warm creampie to top it off because he knows that his semen does some stuff to you that only vampire magic can cause. You’ll be giddy and talk complete nonsense about Dadaism, Kahlo, and Kandinsky for three hours. Pregnant you can’t get since human with human, vampire with vampire is how the math goes. But extremely high, apparently. So, prick’n’lick. Your favorite activity. Talk about oral fixation: Vampire Tae has a strong obsession with strawberry ice cream. And... caressing your body, seriously. He is into some major VDA (Vampiric Displays of Affection). Believes that in your past life, you were the grand dame Mona Lisa herself. And a flapper. He writes poems about that and keeps them in a huge diary in the cellar of the Louvre. Some bittersweet, some sensual, some full of adoration. You treasure your time with him, always.

⌈ Hoseok ⌋ ➝ Castle Vampire. 1827 years old. UK (Scotland), Greece, China. Dresses exactly the way you think a dapper castle vamp is suited up. Ruffles, tight pants, gloves, large hats with feathers, tons of Italian lace, even slightly heeled shoes with pointed toes. Has been alive when Sparta was still a thing, saw what went down in the uproar of the actual French Revolution in passing, met Marilyn Monroe, almost got on the Titanic as a passenger, but has enjoyed the Rennaissance the most so far so there’s that. He lived in forts, churches, and even a small barn for some parts of his life until deciding to buy himself a fucking hilltop palace where you can live together. Because lavish castles are, ultimately, what appeals to Hoseok the most, and there is definitely enough space for all of your interests ... and sex toys. Anyway. How did all of that begin. So: The two of you met at a medieval exhibit in Perth where they displayed armors and pieces of weaving. Fell for each other, bonded over a kaleidoscope of shared interests, history knowledge in particular. Hoseok enjoys conversations about mythology, he loves that. And binging a lot of shows on Netflix. Gotta bridge the old and the new. Not that he doesn’t own a giant home theatre with perfect sound system. Maybe he just wants to cuddle up with you in bed and sob when another character dies together so the entire castle staff will hear. No worries though, they’re used to it.
Netflix aside: Aristocracy makes him feel at home. The sunshine regularly hosts interspecies balls with flamboyant masquerade themes so everyone can show up how they’re comfortable. That concerns particularly the slightly introverted elves and shapeshifters from downtown. The last huge ball went under the motto ‘The Glamor of Old Hollywood’ and you dressed up as Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire, dancing all night and plundering the buffet. Hell of a good time. National holidays are holy to vampire Hoseok and basically equal date night. Given his high sex drive, there can’t be enough special occasions either way. To ride his thighs, his face, mark each other down forever until the pants are a little too tight at the damn front. The guy gets shaky knees at the smallest sight of a delicious pulsing vein no matter his century-long chance to accustom himself with human necks, so you agreed to go by a schedule — #SuckingSaturdays only — and you wear thick scarves. Which fits the moody UK weather anyways. The Scots really dig Hoseok in case you’ve been wondering. You can bet Hoseok is the star of Scottish twitter.

⌈ Namjoon ⌋ ➝ Mountain Vampire. 3008 years old. Nepal, Kenya, Peru. You tease him about wearing a long, strangely-always-white cloak and staff because it gives him the semblance of a beardless twen Gandalf. He smokes a pipe, too, but not in your presence anyways. Whatever is in there... seems to elevate him. Literally. Namjoon can levitate. There’s no other way he could use in order to visit you in the first place. A beautiful, abandoned pagoda seated on top of a snowy crest is his makeshift home, inaccessible to everyone but him. Only a secluded place like this is suitable for his ancient kind. To meet you in a warmer and more human-friendly environment, he will elegantly descend from his premises to get together with you in the town located at the base of the mountain. As many nights as possible. Always with a self-made present. Like freshly assembled tea leaves or a little talisman he carved from a piece of wood. Found on one of his long evening walks. He knows what eternity feels like best, that your life is but a glimpse compared to his, so every moment will count. He’ll make it right, no worries. It’s Kim Namjoon, taking care of things. You can always rely on him.
On all levels, he never ceases to surprise. Vampire Joon has surpassed the principles of ingestion, sleep, and a sense of temperature. Hell, even finances. He simply breathes and exists — and most importantly: reads for hours — without any external efforts. Even the Middle Ages didn’t leave a single wrinkle on his face. And he is still the best experienced person to share a bed with. No sexual technique is foreign to him, and post-sex spooning conversations are immensely entertaining. Namjoon has a lot of philosophical thoughts on human-vampire relations and met countless historical figures. He’s also befriended the Yeti at one point, resulting in quite a few hilarious narrations that he will retell on request every time you meet. And he makes them funnier every night. Because Namjoon thinks your laugh is prettier than every sunrise and sunset he’s seen around the world combined, on his every voyage. The most interesting part is: He doesn’t drink any blood even if he has fairly sharp fangs that you often catch yourself staring at for minutes. He still seems more invested in making you cum. With sweet words, brainteasers, and wisdoms spoken into your ears quietly. He’s a walking riddle himself. As expected, who are we kidding. Namjoon, no matter the fleeting centuries he has seen, is a gem and all yours for a lot of nights to come.
