"UNTITLED" // 2007 YOSHITOMO NARA 奈良 美智 [coloured pencil on coloured paper | 16 ½ x 11 5/8"]
With her short cropped hair, dark green dress and rebellious energy, the girl in Untitled (2007) emits the youthful defiance that has come to typify works by Yoshitomo Nara. [...]
"He is widely celebrated for his paintings and coloured pencil drawings of juvenile, cartoonish characters with large gazing eyes and endearing personalities. They inhabit imagined and insouciant paper worlds, brandish absurd objects and props—knives, sprouts, cigarettes, and electric guitars—and express a wide range of capricious, childlike emotion. Stern and somewhat sulky, our subject hovers in indeterminate space. She stands upon a Japanese flag with her small feet positioned perfectly over its crimson sun. Emblazoned around her miniature figure are the words ‘Up Yours!’, and, ‘All the Nations!’. As an advocate of peace, questions of nationhood, conflict and world politics weave through Nara’s art in such pithy phrases and symbols. Exhibited at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga—the first show of the artist’s work in Spain in 2007-2008—the present work was one of twenty coloured pencil drawings hung along the final wall of the gallery.
Born in 1959 in Japan’s rural Aomori Prefecture, Nara’s youth was marked by his country’s rapid post-war economic development and an influx of Western pop-culture, from Disney animation to punk and rock and roll. The artist expresses heartfelt nostalgia for the retro media—record-sleeves and comic books—that offered escapism from an otherwise solitary childhood. ‘Of course if you think back to the ’70s,’ he says, ‘information moved very differently. There was no Internet obviously and even the release date of albums in Japan could be delayed as much as six months … I would just sit there, listen to the music, look at the art on the cover and I think I really developed my imagination through that’ (N. Hegert, ‘Interview with Yoshitomo Nara,’ Artslant, 18 September 2010). This sensitivity to the worn, tactile quality of objects is triumphant in his art today and distinguishes him from the likes of Takashi Murakami and his Superflat movement. Untitled bears the enlivening traces of artist’s hand, present in the rough ‘outside-the-line’ scribbles that imply the girl’s messy hair. Bracketed with Nara’s unfiltered, handwritten text, the image feels distinctly personal, like a secret note exchanged between friends.
As early as his time at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts in the 1980s, Nara began to draw onto envelopes, cardboard, and scraps of found paper. He continued these explorations at the prestigious Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where, under the tutorship of German Neo-Expressionist painter A. R. Penck, he was encouraged to work fluidly between painting and drawing. ‘I [loved] to draw every day and the scrawled sketches, never shown to anybody, started piling up’, Nara has said. ‘Like journal entries reflecting the events of each day, they sometimes intersected [with] memories from the past. My little everyday world became a trigger for the imagination, and I learned to develop and capture the imagery that arose’ (Y. Nara, ‘Nobody’s Fool’, in N. Miyamura and S. Suzuki (eds.), Yoshitomo Nara: The Complete Works, Volume 1: Paintings, Sculptures, Editions, Photographs 1984-2010, San Francisco 2011, p. 43). Mischievous, cute, and quietly ferocious, the present work attests to the enduring appeal of Nara’s little rebels." — via Christie's

As always, have fun listening and reading along! (♡ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈)
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
[This scene takes place after Yuma takes Yui’s blood in front of Shuu at the academy. They are now in the school infirmary.]
00:00 Yuma: Tch. Your face’s white as a fuckin’ sheet. You don’t taste good when you’re already half empty. Hurry up ‘n save up some blood so I can suck it.
[Yuma chews on a sugar cube.]
Y: I won’t hand you over to those bastards. Not until I become Adam. Better rest up, Sow.
[Reiji walks in.]
Reiji: Oh? What are you doing here?
Y: None of your business, smart-ass. (1)
R: Heh. It seems that you have taken too much of her blood, rendering her useless.
Y: If you already know, you’d better fuck off.
R: Did you say something?
Y: Nothin’ in particular. Sow won’t be getting any rest anytime soon, though. We need her blood. More and more of it.
R: Heh.
Y: What’s so funny?
R: That is absurd.
Y: Huh?
R: Greedily devouring her without thinking of the repercussions… Exactly what I expect from mongrels like you.
Y: The fuck d’ya say?
R: Heh. It does not take a lot to upset you. How very predictable.
Y: Fuck off!
02:04 R: Good grief… If you continue taking her blood so carelessly, she will die before long.
Y: What’s wrong ‘bout a vampire suckin’ human blood? Don’t act like we’re not doin’ the same thing y’all did!
R: I would appreciate it if you did not liken yourselves to us. I have merely been treating her with the appropriate courteousness. Verbally abusing me without having the slightest notion of who I am is simply absurd. Foolish, rather.
Y: Hah! Foolish, you say. Right back at ya.
R: How so?
Y: Haha. You don’t know anythin’ either, do you?
R: What do I not know about you?
Y: You think we’re carelessly feeding on her for no reason at all? That’s foolish. We’re taking her blood ‘cause… Ah.
[Yuma catches himself before he divulges the Mukami’s plans.]
R: What is it?
Y: Heh. It’s got nothin’ to do with you.
R: That is regrettable. But even if you would have let your tongue slip, it is not that difficult to guess...
[Yuma grabs Reiji by the collar.]
Y: Why’re you pickin’ a fight with me if you already know?
R: I only know because you were chattering away, oblivious of your surroundings. Well, if lowly scum such as you former humans would be scheming anything… it would have nothing to do with me.
Y: Ha! Then you’re fine with me doin’ as I please with her?
R: Indeed. Because whatever you half-bloods are planning, you could never outmatch us to begin with. Besides, she is nothing but prey to us.
Y: What about you, huh? You OK with me takin’ Sow away from ya?
04:19 R: That is a foolish question. Are you saying she is valuable to us at all?
Y: Well, I’m glad. We’ll do exactly as we please with her, then.
R: However, please remember that when you make a move on the Sakamaki family, we will eliminate you without mercy.
[Reiji leaves.]
Y: Tch. What an indecisive asshole.
[Yuma leaves as well. The scene shifts to Yuma walking down the hallway, where he accidentally stumbles upon Shuu again.]
05:18 Y: Ugh, first that smart-ass and now this NEET (2), too?
S: Wait.
Y: What?
S: Are you really a vampire?
Y: The fuck? You askin’ that out of pride ‘cause you’re a pureblood? Like I said to Four-Eyes, we’re half-blood vampires. Used to be human. That’s got nothin’ to do with you.
S: Since when?
Y: Huh?
S: When did you become vampires? Who turned you?
Y: How’s that matter to you? I don’t get it.
S: Answer me.
Y: Tch. Don’t order me around like you're superior. It’s pissin’ me off. Ah… Who knows? It’s been so long that I forgot.
S: Have you always had that name?
Y: You listenin’ to me? Why do I gotta tell you? I don’t get it.
S: You don’t remember?
Y: What’d you say? What do you know ‘bout my memories?
S: Hm.
Y: And now you’re staying quiet. Tch. It’s not like I got anything to hide, though. I don’t remember my childhood. The only thing I’ve got left from then are my burn scars. I don’t even remember my own name.
S: Burn scars?
Y: Huh? Oh, and there’s a birth mark on my shoulder. But I guess that doesn’t really matter.
S: Ah!
Y: What? Why’re you so surprised? It’s not like it still hurts or itches now, either.
S: Hm…
Y: You seem kinda out of it. You sure you’re alright with us takin’ Sow away from y’all?
S: I guess. What you do with that woman has nothing to do with me.
Y: How’re you and that Four-Eyes so calm about all this? Don’t come cryin’ to me ‘bout it later!
07:42 S: She’s nothing but prey to us. Someone else will come to take her place when she dies.
Y: You really think so? She’s the only...
S: Aren’t you a little too interested in her?
Y: Heh. We have our reasons.
S: I see.
Y: Ha. Famous last words? You selfish fucking aristocrat. Tch. You’re all insane…
[Yuma walks away.]
S: Burn marks… So it is him.
[The scene shifts to Reiji.]
R: They are completely obsessed with her blood… There is no mistaking what they must be scheming. It seems there is an ulterior motive. When I think about it, it can only be him pulling the strings behind all of this… What on Earth is he planning?
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
(1) 蘊蓄(うんちく): Lit. ‘great/vast knowledge.’ Yuma uses this word to call Reiji 蘊蓄野郎(うんちくやろう)and in this case 野郎 (やろう) can be translated as ‘bastard,’ so—although it doesn’t cover the full extent of the meaning of these words—I translated it as ‘smart-ass’ here for convenience.
(2) NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training): Japanese-English abbreviation for young people who don’t do anything with their lives.

NHL Captains & Alternates Primer/Refresher
All teams per the NHL Rule book (Rule 6, pg 7-8) must list either One (1) Captain and Two (2) Alternate Captains or Three (3) Alternate Captains during the game line-up submissions*. There may only be Three (3) Alternates if the Captain is not in uniform or if there is no designated Captain. No Coach, Manager or Goaltenders are allowed to act as a Captain or Alternate; Goaltenders are not allowed to act as captains due to (un)intentional delay of game as per the "Durnan Rule". They must wear either a "C" or "A" about three inches (3") high and of a contrasting color in a visible spot on the front of their jerseys. Only the Captain [ or any one (1) Alternate, if the Captain is not on the ice] is allowed, if invited by a referee, to discuss interpretations of the rules**. They may not leave the bench to protest or hinder any officials in light of a call on the ice, and are subject to being given a penalty (Abuse of Officials: unsportsmanlike conduct).
Notes:
(*) Some teams have named more than the regulation two (2) or three (3) alternates and are required to rotate the designation between players. The method of choosing who gets the designation when is left to team digression.
(**) Complaints about penalties are not considered 'a discussion pertaining to the interpretations of the rules', and any skater making such complaints are subject to a minor penalty in response.

Midnight Break Room 🏴☠️ [Barber Beats, Plunderphonics, Vaporwave]
curated by Benjamin G
Mmm, a smooth mix of jazzy beats. I’m somewhat aware of the “vaporwave” genre, but less aware of “barber beats”. And this is the first time I’ve seen the term “plunderphonics”. (I was listening to a mix of “intelligent drum and bass” before this, so I know there’s some overlap.)
Anyway, the mix has been down-tempo with some jazzy bits and funky guitars, here and there. That sort of 1990s “easy listening” music from The Weather Channel’s local forecast segment. “Freq” by VHS Logos and “arrival heights” by GD¥ were the 2 songs that prompted me to post this to tumblr.

Dạ chào anh, hôm nay em tình cờ mở lại Tumblr mới thấy tin nhắn của anh, cảm ơn anh đã yêu mến công việc văn chương của em. Để trả lời cho câu hỏi của anh thì em cũng không nghĩ nhiều xem self ấy là gì, có lẽ là cái thứ hai. London Motorcycle Show Welcomes Thousands Of Fans
Devitt Insurance MCN London Motorcycle Show Welcomes Thousands Of Fans. This weekend, 32,399 motorcycle fans, an increase on last year, descended on the Capital to celebrate the very best of two wheels at the Devitt Insurance MCN London Motorcycle Show. Alongside 15 of the world’s leading manufacturers showcasing the latest in new metal, visitors were treated to an explosion of noise, with the world’s first indoor Supersprint taking over the centre of the Show. London’s Docklands came alive with the sights and sounds of two wheels over the weekend for the annual Devitt Insurance MCN London Motorcycle Show. Often seen as the event to kick-start the riding season, the Show had a fresh look for 2023, welcoming Devitt Insurance as the title sponsor and introducing a brand new live-action show with the world’s first indoor Supersprint. The three-day event saw 32,399 visitors pass through the doors, an increase compared to the 2022 show. Taking over the centre of the Show, the Supersprint saw a host of iconic machinery, including Barry Sheene’s World-Championship winning Suzuki, Peter Hickman’s 2023 British Superbike, Honda’s MotoGP-derived RC213V-S, the BMW F900 R Cup bikes and the Triumph Scrambler’s from the James Bond film ‘No Time To Die’ roar down the strip in a high-speed explosion of noise. Leading the way in each race were Isle of Man TT legends Peter Hickman and John McGuinness, who also spent time catching up with visitors and signing autographs. One of the major attractions was the latest ‘new metal’ from 15 of the world’s leading manufacturers. BMW, BSA, CCM, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Indian, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco, Norton, Royal Enfield, Segway, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha were in attendance, showcasing some stunning machines, including the UK debut of several bikes such as the KTM 790 Adventure and 890 Adventure, Kymco AK 550 Premium and the first-ever Segway electric scooters.
BMW Motorrad UK National Marketing and PR Manager Scott Grimsdall said, “The London Motorcycle Show is always a great way to kick off the year, and particularly encouraging to talk to so many riders new to motorcycling. The new Supersprint show added another level of excitement, particularly for some of our keen F 900 R Cup racers.” With London being the ideal location for electric machines, many manufacturers used the Show to exhibit their revolutionary bikes, including Kawasaki’s Ninja EV, BMW CE04 and the Sur-Ron range. Yamaha also gave visitors a chance to experience electric power with the Neo Scooter Experience. There was plenty on offer for race fans, with the Manx Grand Prix starting their centenary celebrations at the Show. Alongside a collection of race machines, stars such as Lee Johnston, Dominic Herbertson, Stephen Smith, and McGuinness were around to spend time with visitors and tell tales from the incredible Isle of Man. For those eager to explore the world, the Adventure Zone sponsored by Caberg proved a popular spot, with the stage hosting an array of talks from some of the most intrepid explorers of recent years, including Austin Vince, Elspeth Beard and Vanessa Ruck. Visitors were also able to grab a bargain from many of the industry’s leading brands, with Roadskin Owner Nicky Wilson saying, “It’s been a phenomenal show for us, by far the best show we’ve ever had at the Excel. We’ve sold out completely of several Roadskin lines, which we didn’t anticipate, and we have been fully rushed off our feet all weekend!”
On Saturday, Silverstone Auctions gave visitors the opportunity to secure some incredibly rare machines, with just under 150 motorcycles going under the hammer, with a sale rate of 80%. Everything from pre-war machines to modern classics were up for sale, with over £850,000 in sales being generated. Highlights included a 1995 Ducati Senna 1 916cc (sold for £38,250), a 1982 Kawasaki Z1000J2 998cc (sold for £16,875) and a 1994 Ducati 888 Corse 926cc (sold for £47,250). Speaking after a successful first title sponsorship of the show, Tom Warsop, Marketing Director of Devitt Insurance, said: “We’ve had a great show talking to so many fully engaged bikers from all over the country about their machines and situations. We’ve brought a selection of diverse exhibits that generated massive attention, including the first showing of the CAKE electric model, one-off customs, our Devitt Flat Track racers and our supported Paul Milbourn land speed record machine. The Supersprint has been really exciting for visitors, and the whole event has had a real buzz about it!” For more London Motorcycle Show News check out our dedicated page London Motorcycle Show News or head to the official London Motorcycle Show website London Motorcycle Show Read the full article
