Susannah Foster (The Phantom of the Opera)—christine daeeee
Moira Shearer (The Red Shoes)— Moira Shearer is one of the most awe-inspiring dancers ever put to screen. Watching her performance in 'The Red Shoes' changed my fucking life. When I saw her in 'Peeping Tom' it was one of the most anxiety-inducing experiences I've ever had watching a film. Moira Shearer was not only an actress who can make you feel, she's an actress who can make you feel *desperately afraid* for her. An all-time favourite for horror, dance, and just her /presence/, man.
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut]
Moira Shearer:
Her performance in 'The Red Shoes' (if you ever have the opportunity to see this on the big screen, TAKE IT.)
[editor's note: if your TWs include death, dismemberment, or general freaky stuff, go forward with caution with these videos. Enjoy!]

Scottish flame-haired professional ballerina who made a successful move into films with ballet classic "The Red Shoes" and several other films. The best way to convey her beauty and grace is to see her in motion so gifsets are attached.

Please check her out as Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann, it's one of my favourite examples of automata ballet and she's so awesome in it

Watching 1939: The Great Victor Herbert (1939)
In 2011, I announced I was trying to see every film released in 1939. This new series chronicles films released in 1939 as I watch them. As we start out this blog feature, this section may become more concrete as I search for a common thread that runs throughout each film of the year. Right now, that’s difficult. 1939 film: The Great Victor Herbert (1939) Release date: Dec. 6, 1939 Cast: Walter…

I don't want to be a wet blanket, I love Halloween in pretty much all its ways of being... but when the decorative merch, t-shirts, etc, come out each year with the "witch this," "salem that" all emblazoned with "est 1692"...
Well, it always sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth... because in the village in that year something really horrible happened.
Whether because of politics, land grabs, ageism/sexism, personal vendettas, economic competition, or ergot poisoned rye grain causing hallucinations and faulty thinking, it was all wrapped up in religious zeal and innocents were murdered.
So, every year at our Samhain program, I say their names and light a candle.

FOP AU OC: Timothea Turner
Full Name: Timothea Trinity Turner
Gender: Female
Occupation(s): Heiress of Turner’s Farm/Ranch, Owner of Foster Home
Residence: Turner’s Manor, Dimmsdale, California
Interests: Hearing her father’s public pronouncements, fairytales, outdoor gatherings
Family: Ebenezer Turner (father), Gerth Turner (mother; deceased), Unknown husband, Pappy Turner (Grandson), Gertrude (graddaughter), Darrick Turner (great grandson), Susannah Turner (great granddaughter-in-law), Timantha “Timmy” Turner (great-great-granddaughter)
Other relationships: Orville Buxaplenty (suitor), Valerian Star (friend, suitor), Charlie McBadbat (friend, suitor), Shelby Dinkleberg (suitor), Hank OxHorn (suitor), Taran V. D’Vil (friend, suitor), Alden Bitterroot (enemy), Dale Dimm (suitor, friend)
Character
Timothea Trinity Turner was a daughter of Ebenezer Turner, one of the founding members of Dimmsdale, bellman and a rich farmer. She is also Timmy’s ancestress. Unlike her occasionally unintelligent father, Timothea is fully aware of her position as rich farmer’s daughter and her beauty, she used her charm into good use; receiving money, jewels, and other valuables to use them on her Foster home for orphans, disabled, and former slaves as well as giving paycheck to her father’s workers. Her portrait has been kept in prime residence of Turner Ranch where Pappy Turner lives. Timothea bears a striking resemblance with her descendant.
Background
Timothea was a little girl when she and her father moved to California. With the dairy and farming business prospering, her father became a rich farmer. When she came of age, her father Ebenezer became one of founding members of Dimmsdale and was given a choice of what occupation he can have. When he chose to be a town crier, Orville Buxaplenty—the youngest member of founders—gained more wealth by becoming a railroad tycoon. She was seen comforting her father who regretted his choice by saying she enjoys his pronouncements, quickly cheering him up. She made official debutante, gaining mass population of suitors in Dimmsdale. Aware of what her charm and beauty can do, she decided to use them well to gain economical support from her suitors to feed the orphans, disabled and former slaves living in her recently built foster home.
It is further revealed that when she was a child, her father hired the Bitterroot family who are family of witch/wizards from Salem, Massachusetts. Their son, Alden—being same age as her—were her only companion and a friend as she knew he was a warlock, but kept a secret to protect their friendship. However, she felt concern witnessing his ambition for social power and his immense hatred for fairies. When she found a magic wand, she decided to use its magic to prosper Dimmsdale but Alden wanted it either destroyed or use it to eradicate all fairies. When he started to accuse god-children as witches, she confronts him with a help of Dale Dimm and had him sealed away as she can’t bear to see him burned alive. She then made a wish that the town doesn’t know about fairies and their existence to keep the fairies safe from Alden’s wrath. According to history, she married a man who came from poor background as he received her family name “Turner” and was known for having a buckteeth.

Listening to the Lux Radio Theater adaptation of the 1943 Phantom of the Opera. Susannah Foster and Nelson Eddy are in it, but Basil Rathbone is playing Erique instead of Claude Rains.
I haven't listened to much old time radio, but it's fun so far!

I'm feeling starved of Wayne content and I really like your opinions, do you have any random Wayne headcanons to share with us in these trying times?
I'm working on a big Wayne effortpost, but here's something to tide you over:
So you know how he's the Prisoner stuck in the Scarlet Estate we can see during the haunting in Ep 3? That's what the smart money's on, anyway. Anyway he knows everything the Scarlets have done. Well, I figure the old-timey Scarlets loved to play that big old piano in the Estate, and I bet they loved the music of Stephen Foster. Stephen Foster was a prolific Victorian composer of parlour and minstrel music, and many of his songs -- "Camptown Races," "Oh! Susannah," "Beautiful Dreamer," and more -- are still well-known today.
Wayne hates Stephen Foster songs. He thinks they're treacly, sentimental garbage for people with no taste, and listening to the Scarlets play them over and over and over again did nothing to change his opinion. Fastest way to get him to go ballistic is to play the opening bars of "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair." If MC tries it he'll smash that piano to splinters before he lets them play another note. Other than punching him that's the fastest way to lock yourself out of his romance arc.

Each time you happen to me all over again
“It’s a lot of fuss over nothing, a lot of silly nonsense and fretting, and I can hardly countenance that you’ve let them all convince you, Dr. Foster,” Mrs. Manson Mingott said, as if she hadn’t been saying something similar since he’d arrived. He could tell, if none of her servants and family could not, that despite her attempt at asperity she was fearful, a state she was unaccustomed to, and that allowed him to take a breath and modulate his tone, instead of responding with a completely exasperated exclamation.
“You. Had. A. Stroke,” he said, pausing between each word in some vain hope that she might accept his diagnosis. She was possibly his most difficult patient and it was not unusual for him to look back on his time in Alexandria with a fond nostalgia after a house-call paid to her at her vast brick mansion overlooking the park. “Call it an apoplexy if you wish, it’s all the same and the consequences are unchanged. You must begin to take my advice or the next time your family send for me, there will be nothing I can do.”
“How brusque you are!” she replied. “To speak to me so—”
“You retain me as your personal physician for just that reason, madam,” he said. “You know I have too much respect for you to prevaricate.” Rude was what Mary would have called him, had she heard the exchange, frank and ill-advised and would have reminded him of the woman’s frailty. But she would have smiled as she said it and reminded him he’d survived four years with Miss Hastings, he might do well to curb his tongue with Mrs. Manson Mingott as he’d managed with the former paragon of the Crimea.
“You’re no sycophant, I’ll give you that,” the older woman said, pursing her lips and shrugging her shoulders. “Though a little of the famed Southern charm wouldn’t go amiss.”
“I’m afraid that is reserved for ballrooms and barbecues, not your sickbed. Will you take the tonic I leave for you and follow my instructions regarding your diet?” he said.
“I cannot survive on consommé and that foul sassafras concoction,” she said.
“You cannot survive without them,” he replied. “Another four-course dinner with petit fours and canards a la Rouennaise will finish you off. And you cannot think to restore yourself with a good burgundy.”
“You speak like an epicure,” she said, with more reflection than accusation in her tone. “I should not have thought the table of a Bostonian matron would groan so.”
“Mrs. Foster would only take offense at your assuming her to be a Bostonian, when she is in fact from the relative wilds of New Hampshire,” Jed said. “We do eat more simply than the Beauforts and van der Luydens. It’s not a household overflowing with Allemande sauce.”
“What a droll image,” Mrs. Manson Mingott said, her smile lopsided but genuine.
“You must rest now, I think, Mrs. Mingott, and I’ll be back to look in on you tomorrow,” he said, noting the fatigue in her small, dark eyes, the effort it was taking her to keep from collapsing back on the myriad pillows surrounding her. If he hurried, he would find Mary in the sitting room with Susannah on her lap and the boys sprawled on the rug before the fire, Daniel reading aloud while Timothy and John sorted out whatever small treasures they’d accumulated, pebbles and twigs and the odd jay’s feather, as they listened to their brother and their mother’s occasional and gentle corrections of a mispronounced word. He felt a sudden pity for the old ill woman before him, swathed in Belgian lace and frills. Her family would come to see her, but the comfortable and amiable warmth of his own home was something she’d never have, for all her wealth and power.
“Have your butler send for young Mrs. Archer,” he added. May was Mrs. Mingott’s favorite granddaughter, the least likely to unsettle her, conventional, happily or at least respectably married. He’d met her once and she reminded him of Emma Green when she’d first come to Mansion House to work, fresh and dainty as a rosebud and equally certain of herself and her society. Mrs. Mingott was beyond any revelation; it would be a marvel if she ever left the confines of her elegant house. Any further change was beyond her.

🧸🎊❓️
Hey anon! Thanks for the ask!! Here’s some of my basic overview headcanons of the missing children!!
🧸 = Full Names, 🎊 = Personality,❓= Ages
Susannah “Susie” Anderson / Age 8 / Susie was regarded as a very confident and happy girl! She always had positivity to her, and she always had a smile to give others. She walked her dog and made sure to wave, she encouraged her brother to go ahead instead of staying behind her, but in the end, did all of that really matter? Yes. It did. In death, Susie doesn’t regret a thing she did in life, except for her last day…
Jeremy Anderson / Age 9 / Jeremy was very reserved, and preferred to stay in the shadows behind his sister Susie. Jeremy was very smart, and often liked to share facts along with Gabriel (his best friend of the 5, if he’s honest [and not counting Susie]). In death, Jeremy is very traumatized from the circumstances surrounding his death, but has improved in self-worth skills, as being Bonnie, to him, is being the cool guitarist bunny, and he has to keep it cool, for his favorite.
Gabriel Foster / Age 9 / Gabriel, while not being the oldest, definitely acted like it. Always having facts, bandaids, and general “mom friend” (dad friend?) energy. When Gabriel died, he couldn’t exactly always carry bandaids and such with him, but as Freddy, Gabriel makes sure that the rest of the gang always feel at the very least comfortable. Of course, this doesn’t stop him from mourning a lot.
Francis “Fritz” Rose / Age 7 / Fritz was the youngest victim, and as such, was very rowdy and energetic. In death, Fritz still keeps a childlike whimsy in him, confusing even Cassidy and Charlie, who don’t understand how even after all the horrible stuff that’s happened to him, how he still keeps that energy up. Fritz doesn’t understand it. In his mind, he just became his favorite, Foxy the Pirate Fox!
Cassidy Ha / Age 10 [turned 10 on her death day] / Cassidy. Cassidy was always regarded as “mature”, but she was really just a kid at heart. Which is why in death, she cannot let go of anything. She’s stubborn, impatient, and quick to anger. All is just a resentment. She shares Golden Freddy with Evan, the Afton boy, and is the determined leader between the both of them.
Send me an ask about my missing children!

TUGS FANKIDS!!!
As well as crack ships, I love fanbabies too, even for ships I do not support (not the babys fault who its parents are, after all)
So, here are some designs I scribbled for my fankids. Bit of a Tumblr "exclusive" as I've never shared this drawing on Deviantart. I hope you like them, and if you do, please give a like or comment. 🙏
With all my OCs, I am happy for anyone to use them, provided you credit and, where possible, tag me.
Onto the kiddies:
Maia Starr:
+ Daughter of Lillie and Hercules.
+ Eldest of the Starr Siblings' children.
+ Born nine months after the "revelation," which was the cause of her conception. Fortunately, Lillie and Hercules were engaged and married before they discovered their extra guest!
+ Absolutely Daddy's Little Girl, unless Uncle Warrior is around.
+ Strong-willed and independent. Likes to gently test the rules to see what she can get away with...and with whom.
Poppy Reynolds-Starr:
+ Daughter of Zip and Ten Cents.
+ Born six months after Maia.
+ ¾ British, ¼ Canadian.
+ The reason her parents had to get married.
+ Not actually canon to the main AU, Poppy and her siblings exist in an offshoot branch of it. In the main AU, Zip is straight.
+ Daddy's girl, but looks up to her Auntie Aurora and adores her paternal grandparents' St. Bernard, Titan.
+ A good girl, but not above getting up to mischief.
Orion Starr:
+ Son of Hercules and Lillie.
+ Three years younger than Maia.
+ His birth was something of a relief to Hercules, who wanted his children to be born closer together than he and his siblings (He is eight years older than Warrior, twelve older than Ten Cents, and thirteen older than the twins).
+ Takes after his father in that he always looks out for his younger siblings and cousins, but usually lets Maia do the talking and make decisions.
+ Lillie suspects he lets his sister try new things first to make sure it's safe!
Cassandra Starr:
+ Daughter of Warrior and Susannah (oc daughter of Zebedee and Edward)
+ Eldest grandchild of Zebedee and Edward, and practically worshipped by them both!
+ Joked to be Big Mac and Top Hat's 'practice grandchild,' as Warrior was briefly fostered by them.
+ Not a spoiled brat, which is something of a miracle!
+ Through her mother is ¼ steam engine, which does make her slightly faster than her cousins.
+ Two years younger than Orion.
+ Daddy's girl, also Grandad's girl. Literally likes everyone though and doesn't play favourites.
+ Looks up to her uncles, Bill and Ben, much to everyone's horror, and has made them her role models!

my The Dark Tower fancast* that nobody asked for
*Disclaimer: I'm not going for actual castable people here. It's more about an approximation of what those characters are like in my head. We're talking baselines here. I chose pictures of the stage in those actors lives/careers that come close enough to my vision. I'm not only considering looks, but also their craft and if I think there is the right spark there somewhere in their work. (Also minor details like eye color and changeable things like haircuts don't matter much to me and my imagination.)
anyway:
of course we're starting with the man, the myth, old long tall and ugly:
Justin Theroux as Roland Deschain of Gilead, bitch. (give him some salt in that pepper hair, blue eyes, steal his moisturizer for a month and sandblast him: bam. Roland.)
Ka-Tet of 19
Naomi Harris as Susannah Dean (and you know, Detta/Odetta)
River Phoenix as John "Jake" Chambers. Love you, Bama.
...
And what about... Eddie Dean? So far I have not come across an actor (or anybody, really) who matched what Eddie looks like in my head. Big fucking shoes to fill, he's my favorite after all...
But I'm interested in other peoples ideas about that.
bonus
Mads Mikkelsen as Father Donald Callahan
Mejis Ka-Tet
Jake Gyllenhaal as Cuthbert Allgood
Sean Astin as Alain Johns
Anya Taylor Joy as Susan Delgado
bonus
Meg Foster as Rhea of the Cöos
