Listen, I don't know if this has been done before and I don't know if my information is correct but

look at the way they're covering their faces. all three of them. idk if it's true but I remember one of the women being the doctor's mother. covering her face like a weeping angel. and then the doctor turns into one???

the thing is. why bring Rose back for this finale. she didn't particularly do much other than standing around and looking pretty. I assume there'll be more of her for the second part. I stand by my original assertion from the star beast that it doesn't make sense that she can just 'give up' the alien DNA she was born with. my point back then was that it would be fun if she could regenerate, and ended up becoming the timeless child herself, thus making the Doctor's entire existence a very fun paradox AND also canonizing the 'half human, on my mother's side' line from the 8th doctor's movie (my beloved) (because Donna was only half human whether she knew it or not).

HOWEVER.

all the susan-baiting is really getting to me. I want our weird little granddaughter back. they canonized the fact that the Doctor doesn't actually know who her parents were. and I REMEMBER. that Susan's original gallifreyan name was Rose. well, their language's equivalent of it. that's how Rose Tyler got her name, it was meant to be a cute little easter egg, the first classic companion and the first new who companion sharing a name. so walk with me. the weird girl daughter of Donna Noble, who grew up on earth but never fit in there, who has the Doctor's DNA woven into her being, and access to a yardis, and can in this scenario regenerate...coming across a younger version of the her father/uncle, introducing herself as Rose (which translates to gallifreyan, I really don't feel like looking up the spelling rn I'm sorry it started with an A), the doctor can recognize her- as family, he thinks, not knowing its a spark of him, their shared mind. she knows about how risky spoiling the future would be, she doesn't know if he has siblings and he looks older than she's ever seen him, so she says she's his granddaughter instead of his niece. daughter. him. she's part time lord. she lives longer than her human family. the Doctor is all she has left and she wants to be with him even if it isn't a him that knows her yet. she's heard the phrase 'timey wimey' before, and she's a smart and careful girl. she finds she doesn't fit in on gallifrey any more than she ever fit in on earth. the Doctor knows exactly what that feels like. they travel. when her human friend renames her Susan, she likes it a lot. feels like when she changed her name the first time. freeing, empowering, becoming. feels like the new name fits her new life better. Rose has a long dead family but Susan has her grandfather. the part of her that is her mother and father, though, still craves human connection. the love and fascination with humanity that she inherited from the Doctor is still there. she tells him all about humans and he takes her to visit them more and more to humor her. she ends up fostering his love for earth that will one day define him AND lead to her creation. she accidentally coins the name tardis the same way the doctor will accidentally invent a banana daiquiri a few centuries too early. he just thinks she's creative and silly. a very dear child. odd and bizarre to her classmates at school, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was the first time around. sometimes she even goes to see a younger Wilf. he's somehow exactly how she remembers him as an old man. she's so grateful they're in the 60's though, because if she ever has to look into the eyes of a Donna Noble who didn't know her, she thinks she may actually die. but the Doctor- he IS enough. he is still part of her, part of her mother, even if he doesn't realize it. she can't help but worry over his health, even knowing he lives long past this, because she got so used to helping his older self in his retirement. she knows him better than he knows himself. she'd do anything for him, and she knows he'd do anything for her.

she just never thought leaving her was something he'd do, though.

For Mrs. Flood my theories are:

1) Ruby from the future (Based off the interaction at the end it gave a “good luck at seeing what we're going to experience” sort of vibe.

2) Susan (Mrs. Flood's blue door is giving the faded Classic Tardis blue & I want to know what became of Susan after she settled down with David)

3) A regular old lady who has just seen the Tardis land many a time during crisis's & has worked out what it is via hearing companions/Doctors speak about it as they're walking towards it. A sort of Wilf-like recurring character whose just a snazzy old lady <3

4) The person who picked up the Master Tooth.

5) The Rani (Why not 😅 I've guessed “The Rani” for characters so many times now I might as well put the suggestion in the ring again & this time Mel is back & Mel encountered the Rani with Seven in her first serial with him)

6) Missy (The Meep has taught me to beware of something nasty pretending to be something nice) I thought Indira Varma's new character “The Duchess” might be Missy but this is would not be the first time RTD has put a gentle looking older character who doesn't look like they can do any harm in DW until all hell breaks loose. Professor Yana turned out to be The Master.

I like the theme of emphasising the Doctor’s relationship problems are his own doing to his face.

Isn’t going back to Susan - Ruby reaches out to her family and it works.

Recreating the final pre-Gallifrey leaving incident with the Master but this time they’ve swapped roles, and getting hit by Rogue with ‘he wanted you to propose. Tell him you loved him. Say anything’ but he didn’t.

He can’t even hack Ruby’s platonic-feeling ‘I love you’, even though that specific inability to say that has screwed him like five times.

(Fourteen has actually already sucked it up and gone to see Susan, multiple times now, it went very well, she’s come back once and made firm friends with Wilf. Tracked down the Master and they’ve had a long talk, and now the Master’s in one of Jo’s spare rooms while he figures some stuff out and is considering art school. Fourteen’s not taking up any UNIT therapist but is talking a lot more to Donna, and Rose, and Wilf, and Shaun, and Sylvia, other old friends, and Mel when she comes round, and — failing everything else when it’s too difficult — the orange azalea bush in the allotment named Mel-Two. Tells Donna and Rose ‘I love you’ at least twice a day. Is considering building a new K-9)

Ok, so I talked about this in the tags of a previous post but I think it’s something I wanna discuss on its own. I know everyone likes to believe the mysterious woman in the end of time was the doctor’s mum but I’ve always liked the idea that it was a regenerated Susan.

Not only does it make her character more impactful if it’s someone we’ve seen before and we know how strong a bond she has with the doctor but also bringing in the doctor’s granddaughter in the same episode he forms such a strong bond with wilf, Donna’s grandad, makes their kinship even more poignant. Wilf is terrified of losing Donna and the doctor understands that pain cuz he lost his own granddaughter in the war.

Also it makes sense considering Susan was such a big character in eight’s big finish era and we know she was present on gallifrey thanks to susan’s war so it easily could be her. Even though it would have been nice to see Carole Ann ford again it also makes sense she would have regenerated at least once in such a massive conflict like the time war. Also it makes that look of recognition and hurt on his face even worse as in that moment he is dooming not just the time lords to their death but his own granddaughter as well. Someone who should have long outlived him and he loves with all his hearts is now dead by his own hand. Twice.

Fuck me man, that hurts so bad but Susan doing all that the mysterious woman did for her grandad hurts so good.

I've read some of the Mrs Flood theories and came up with my own. Not sure if anyone has already suggested this, but here it is.

I really want her to be Iris, or Susan, or Rani, or even Barbara, but actually I don't think that it will be the case.

What I saw? She clearly knows what a TARDIS is, but does not immediately recognise the Doctor's one. Yes, she can just mess up with her poor neighbour, but her reaction when she is dropping her bags seems pretty natural to me. And let me say: once you see our blue box TARDIS, you clearly won't forget her. Ever. She might've thought that it is just a regular 60 years old police box that her neighbour found somewhere just to annoy her, but... I don't believe that any companion would see a blue box in the middle of the pavement and wouldn't immediately think of TARDIS. So every theory that involves any previous encounter with the Doctor (whether she's a future companion, a Wilf-like character or one of the other characters) is a bit of a stretch.

What else I saw? She is benevolent. She chats with the Doctor. She wishes Ruby good luck, which makes sense if she is a previous/future companion (or Missy...), but is quite strange if she is evil. I mean, yeah, she could pretend, but that good luck... was serious, wasn't it? And as for the fourth wall breaking, it is a first logical conclusion that she is some sort of evil, but... I didn't see any malice in her. She didn't frighten me.

One small thing before jumping to my theory. One phrase seemed a bit off to me: she said, she hadn't seen one [of 60s police boxes] in 50 years. Which means: she is living here, on Earth, for at least 50 years. (And honestly I would think by this phrase and this phrase alone that she saw the actual TARDIS back then, since they were out of use even in 60s?? I am not well-versed in a history of English police boxes, so nevermind.)

So. I actually think that she might be Ruby's mother.

She lives next door, so she can look after her without that being too suspicious. Perhaps, she or the infant Ruby were/are in danger, and she had to give her away

She wishes her good luck, which is strange if she's evil, but makes sense if she's her mother

She might be timey-wimey smth, and knows about TARDIS and stuff

Based on the only good photo we have, I feel like the mysterious hooded woman is not very young. But then again, it's really hard to say.

"The End of Time part 2" thoughts

happy valentine's my bf and i ate indian takeout watching this ep and both teared up when wilf saluted the doctor. there is so much going on here

so we open on the time lords convening and one of them says "the doctor still possesses the moment" a detail i did not recall. i can't wait to get to "day of the doctor" and track the throughlines. there's a seer predicting "gallifrey falls" again i say. apparently many people in the time war just die over and over on repeat, which is rough. rassilon describes the doctor/master relationship as "enmity of ages" their impact.

the master taunts the doctor about wilf saying "your dad's still kicking up a fuss" and wilf says "well i'd be proud if i was" it hurts me. the doctor calls donna his best friend and then says "you could be so wonderful....you could be beautiful" to the master hello? girl? the master says "i don't know what i'd be without that noise" and the doctor says "wonder what i'd be without you" HELLO??? GIRL??? the doctor tells the master he's dying and the master snaps back "this body was born of death, all it can do is die" we love inevitability!

so we get THEE laugh, the one repeated on echo from the last part, and it's the moment where the master realizes the time lords planted the drumbeat in his head. that's the moment that plays in everyone's head, the realization

ten and wilf are stranded in space. ten says he's 906, meaning only like 3 years have passed as ten?? the fucking second doctor was 450, two doctors (and two had more life to live after that convo) had 450 years and ten had THREE?? damn this bitch was busy. he and wilf trade war stories. wilf says they must all seem so tiny to him and he says "i think you look like giants" then he gets all melancholy again. "sometimes i think a time lord lives too long" yeah dude i remember lazarus too. he refuses wilf's gun until he realizes the time lords are coming back and then he SNATCHES it up

star wars ass scene shooting missiles out of the sky. wilf says basically it's okay if they're about to die but please tell him. ten does not say anything and they crash to earth instead. rassilon and the other time lords come back and everyone says exposition out loud. one of the dissenters was the woman who appeared to wilf in visions last ep, she clearly recognizes the doctor and the doctor clearly recognizes her. wilf even asks at the end who she was and the doctor doesn't answer. prevailing wisdom 10 years ago was that this was the doctor's mother but i don't think i believe that. if she is anyone we've met before, it's 1000% susan. before the war he was a father and grandfather and now he is NEITHER!! but he is STILL A DOCTOR!! it's rich to me. i want to ask russell if this was supposed to be anyone in particular i'd give anything. "vale decem" plays a little when they lock eyes

anyway the master shoots rassilon w force lightning for making him this way and they all get exploded i think? they all disappear anyway, time lock restored, just the doctor lying in a broken heap on the floor. wilf is locked in the radiation room and the doctor screams and cries and throws up knowing he has to save wilf (or feels like he does). "my reward" and all that. this doesn't really feel like rose to me, i'm not sure where this attitude comes from. closest analogue i can make is eleven snapping in "a town called mercy" where he even references the master as one of the lives lost because he showed mercy. he does save wilf tho, of course. he engages in his favorite pastime of "dying of radiation poisoning" and goes on his farewell tour

martha and mickey are married which is bullshit. he sets jack up with alonso which is cute. hi sarah jane and son. he stops by donna's wedding and gives her a lottery ticket (winning) w money he borrowed from her deceased father. wilf salutes, crying, and we both choked up watching. ten says "i'll see you one more time" did russell know? did he know. i'm glad it was true at least. then rose and jackie!! it's new years 2005!! i bet you're gonna have a great year!!

ood sigma plays him out. "vale decem" in full swing, it's a banger of a track. iconic "i don't want to go" and eleven's introduction by crashing his on-fire tardis. this episode was a wreck and made no sense. it's amazing and i love it dearly. gonna try and do a specials/era retrospective in the airport tomorrow

actually i kind of hate the ten3 ending with donna as well because of the whole framing of like oh he's coming home and his home is here with this one family on earth out of which donna and wilf are like his friends and stuff i get that but sylvia hated his ass until like 2 days ago and he's literally never met rose or shaun before.

and like. look. ten + donna is literally my favourite doctor + companion combination in new who i LOVE them i love their dynamic i love their chemistry i love season 4 etcetc etc.

but like. the idea that his home is with this one woman who like yeah she's his friend and everything but they only knew each other for like a year you know. and then she forgot about him and he was super depressed about it and everything but that was literally like over a thousand years ago now for this character? and i'm not a big fan of 13's seasons and i feel like she has no chemistry with any of her companions but like. how is this one companion from thousands of years ago home and like not anyone else?

and personally i have always held the opinion that the tardis is the doctor's home. and like yeah he gets his own copy of the tardis or whatever dumb shit they pulled fine whatever. but like. THATS his home. i DON'T like the idea that his home this whole time has been hanging out with one friend of his because i don't like the idea that this entire time he hasn't been home already. remember in the doctor's wife when amy was like it's always you and her isn't it long after the rest of us have gone a boy and his box off to see the universe and eleven is like you say that as if it's a bad thing but honestly it's the best thing there is like do you guys remember that do you guys remember when he said that.

THAT'S his home. remember in journey's end when he was literally like connected to the tardis and could feel her pain as she was dying. but like noooooooo his home has to be donna because they were best buddies. this mf has had like 50 other best buddies why donna in particular hell why not susan his literal GRANDDAUGHTER dont you think we're kind of overdue for a reunion and that would also be something nice to have in an anniversary episode

but like. this isn't an anniversary episode. it's just the season 4 sequel rtd has been writing as fanfiction in his head forever. because if he really wanted the doctor to get therapy for character and plot reasons it wouldn't happen offscreen it would happen in the show and we would actually see it. remember how nine had to actually deal with his emotions about the time war on screen for a whole season? rtd doesn't because this time all the dealing with the emotions just happens off screen and we get sexy doctor at the club immediately and if you were actually interested in seeing a character go from point a to point b then fuck you

Family Feud Nominations, Who is the Best Doctor Who Family

If I've missed a character out of one of the families let me know (within reason, I imagine all these families are massive in the EU, so prioritise tv or significant characters)

Currently, the only rule is no families may inculde anyone who is even ambiguously The Doctor, it'll get super complicated super fast imo

Any characters, eg River, who can link up multiple different families to create a single massive family unit will be treated on a case by case basis. If it is possible to pick one of the smaller family units that they are a part of to include them in while not including them in any of the others (in a way everyone will agree at least makes sense) they will be included in that family only, otherwise they will not be included

Please bare in mind when you are nominating that I am hoping to keep the number of nominations under 64 to run this as a mini-tournament. This is not a hard rule so if nominations do exceed 64 its not a big deal, just something I'd like everyone to bare in mind
