The Saturn is no stranger to great shooters, but it looks like the makers of Macross are. My first impressions of this game were not favorable since I'd played the Super Famicom Macross game by Zamuse many times before. The Super Famicom game is really good with solid shooting action and great special effects. On the Saturn though we are stuck with pre-rendered graphics. These look ok but not a patch on the great art used in the Super Famicom game.

The gameplay is ok though but could have been better. The thing that makes this game stand out is the amazing quality of the FMV at the beginning of the game. It's just a shame that the quality doesn't stay that good throughout the game. As you play Macross you go through the entire story of the Super Dimension Macross movie accompanied with FMV clips from the movie which help move the story along.

Unfortunately for the hardened shoot'em up fan, Macross is quite an easy game that will have you going through both discs in under 2 hours easily. If you're a fan of Macross you'll love this game if not, then give it a miss as there are many better shooters on the Saturn.

“Do You Remember Love” canonically existing in-universe as a movie inspired by historical events, but Exsedol in Macross 7 looking more like how he did in the movie than in the show, implies he saw the movie and liked how the actor who played him looked so much that he got plastic surgery to look like him.

Or maybe he played himself in the movie and Zentraedi just get greener and knobblier as they age. 🤔

Out of all the mecha anime I started watching with multiple seasons Macross is definitely the one that captivated me the most and I'm going to finish up watching every single season, I can't wait to see how Maximilian Jenius works his way further into my heart and all the cute idols cranking out absolute bangers, oh and all the mechs and space battles too but who cares about that shit
