Thoughts and prayers go out to the people injured at the Chiefs Super Bowl parade. I wish nothing but the best to everyone affected by this situation, and I hope that everyone remains safe and ok.
My condolences are with the family of the deceased, and I hope that they find strength during these trying times.
It sucks to see violence like this, thoughtless, careless, needless violence happen in the city I call home. You’d think, after so many similar situations happening over and over again, something would happen, something would change.
We need to be better.

There was a shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs parade. That’s my city. My family has gone in years past but thankfully skipped today. There’s no doubt I knew people there, maybe from my high school, from past jobs, from my neighborhood. My sister’s friend is locked in the garage where they’re searching for another shooter. I’m just in shock like this is my city, and somebody had to ruin a day of celebration. We need gun safety laws now

I'm still in disbelief of yesterday. the people who did the shooting at the superbowl parade waited until confetti canons went off before they started. people thought they were fireworks or other things before they realized bodies were just fucking dropping. one death, 22 injuries. 9 of them were CHILDREN. my coworkers sister (17) saw the person die. she watched as they tried to resuscitate them and ultimately fail. another person I know said they saw a part of someone's jaw get blown off. there were three (I think) culprits and they had bags with more mags and stuff in it. my other coworkers mother got some video of it as well.
I even planned on going before I realized I worked. and because we were short staffed, I had to go in earlier. and my coworker even said she would've went if she didn't have to end up covering for someone. the whole situation is insane.
people are always like "how come no one goes out anymore?" because of fucking this. people can't enjoy a good time without getting shot or the constant fear of being shot. there was apparently another shooting later in the day too. they're not sure if they're connected or not.
my mind is still reeling honestly.

Just another Valentine's Day in America
If you haven’t heard – and judging by the apathy with which it was received you may have missed it – there was a shooting in downtown Kansas City yesterday, following the Chiefs Super Bowl parade. Investigators search for what motivated a shooting that left 1 dead and more than 20 wounded at Chiefs Super Bowl celebration The bitter Lions fan in me can’t help but think: The Lions ALMOST made it…

Exhibit A: Cops are worthless
Tumblr media
More than 800 police were on duty Wednesday - 600 KCPD cops and an additional 250 from outside cop shops - for the Chiefs Super Bowl win parade and rally at Union Station. Despite their heavy presence, they failed to stop a mass shooting.
One person, local KKFI radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, was killed. An additional 22 people were injured, with three still in critical condition. About half the victims are children.
It's believed that the shooting occurred because of a dispute between teenagers who missed each other at least 23 times, not because of terrorism or extremism.
In the wake of this mass shooting - during a run of ever-increasing gun violence (though other crimes are dropping) - Kansas City residents are demanding stricter gun laws. But Missouri state law doesn't allow cities to pass gun-related laws (to stop KC from doing so, specifically), and Missouri has famously lax gun laws.
Cops do almost nothing to protect citizens, and nothing to prevent crime.
They exist merely to punish perpetrators, which has very little effect on violence, especially when state law essentially allows anyone to possess whatever weapons they wish, at any age, regardless of gun safety education, stability, or maturity.

I am so unbelievably angry and fed up with the lack of regard or care for the safety of innocent people in this country.
People in my city are dead, injured, and traumatized today because a specific group of people believe guns are more important than human lives.
When will we be considered worthy of protection?

rain (can't salt roads) + heavy snow from 12-4 am = snow day for kids even though there's only 2 or so inches.
