40 Day Anime Challenge Day 33- An anime you loved but will never watch again: Clannad and Clannad: After Story (2007-2009)

Trigger Warning: Mention of domestic violence

Synopsis (by me): Tomoya Okazaki is a sadboi delinquent with a heart of gold and a tragic backstory who helps a bunch of cute girls and some other friends overcome their tragic backstories. Eventually, he settles down with Nagisa Furukawa, who keeps getting held back for missing school due to chronic illness. In After Story, they face tragedy after tragedy in the adult world. Everyone hurts.

Ok look, I know I talk a lot of shit about Clannad. And the truth is, I really love it; I really do. It’s a fantastic anime with a great story, a whole cast of amazing, fleshed-out characters, beautiful artwork, and so many sweet feels. And I love an anime with good feels. But there are some things that fuck you up so bad you never want to face them again, and Clannad is one of them. That show was like an abusive boyfriend who beats you up and then is super sweet like “baby come back I love you so much” and he makes you forget why you ever wanted to leave and then he beats you again. That’s what Clannad felt like. (And don’t @me for making light of dv; I’m writing about my own past relationships here and if I want to make jokes of my own trauma as a coping mechanism that it my prerogative- not my fault if you didn’t read the trigger warning.) At least with Clannad I had the sense not to go back for more...took a few more mistakes to learn with the boys but I finally did!!!

No joke I independently had this experience. I got 2 hours into Clannad,

(its the most famous, so it must be the best dating sim, right? The one I should try to see if I like the genre?)

And oh my god, all the girls were such boring cardboard cutouts, (they each had one adjective: airhead, studious, delinquent) that I became frustrated I couldn't just romance Hip-Hop-Dude-Bro Best Friend Sunohara, who was the only character with any actual personality so far.

....

...ok, so I double checked things just to be safe, and it turns out you can romance Sunohara, you just have to reject every other girl in the game, and then it unlocks as a secret ending!

So, uhhh, Happy Pride Month Everybody!!🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

This is still one of the greatest things ever made.

Danganronpa Rebirth - Voice Actor Headcanons.

So here’s the latest update of this little series on my blog where I assign official voice actors to characters that don’t have them. Today we’re doing another Fanganronpa, Danganronpa Rebirth.

Now as per usual, I need to point out a few things.

This is NOT CANON. These are HEADCANONS and are unofficial. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.

I am aware of RebirthVoices being a thing, and this post is not to besmirch them or their work or effort. This is just a hypothetical cast that Chunsoft would probably hire assuming Rebirth was actually a canon game in the series.
