It was forking good while it lasted.
It was a week of endings. We said goodbye to The Good Place, BoJack Horseman, and one of our favorite pairings on redacted. The 62nd annual Grammys happened and Billie Eilish left with her arms full of awards. My Chemical Romance tickets sold out in the year 2020 and our 13-year-old selves are feeling some kind of way. This is Tumblr’s Week in Review.

Once upon a time in Hollywood, four little women, two popes, and one Irishman walked into a bar…
This Sunday, the best of the film industry will gather to honor, well…the best of the film industry in a little known event called The Academy Awards. For the 92nd year in a row, the recipients of the tiny golden man mysteriously named Oscar are chosen by people who are not you. 92 years and not once have they asked your opinion. Outrageous.
That’s why we like to take this time of year to show off what the Oscars would look like if you had a vote.
The @fandom team analyzed a full year of celebrity-driven data, starting from January 20, 2019. Every tagged original post, reblog, search, and liked post related to the nominees were counted, weighted appropriately, and is wrapped up neatly for your leisurely (or frantic) perusal below.
Let’s get on with the cold, hard data
We look at engagement data holistically, not tied to any one property. Though Scarlett Johansson dominated the conversation overall, it’s not just because of her roles in this year’s Marriage Story or JoJo Rabbit. It’s also because she’s Black Widow, which doesn’t even come out for another three months. In case you didn’t know, you folks really do love Marvel that much. Though she received 69.02% of the engagements in the leading actress category and 55.92% in the supporting actress category, a quick look at her tag shows you have a lot to say and GIF about all these films. It’s worth noting Adam Driver also had a big year outside of Marriage Story, too. Wow, data!
Here’s how everything else broke down:
Best Supporting Actor
5. Joe Pesci, The Irishman | < 1% 4. Anthony Hopkins, The Two Popes | 4.86% 3. Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood | 13.37% 2. Al Pacino, The Irishman | 21.40% 1. Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood | 60.37%

Tumblr media
Best Leading Actor
5. Jonathan Pryce, The Two Popes | < 1% 4. Antonio Banderas, Pain and Glory | < 1% 3. Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood | 6.05% 2. Joaquin Phoenix, Joker | 27.28% 1. Adam Driver, Marriage Story | 66.57%

How can I keep myself healthy and safe?
From a personal perspective, I’d already gone on a bit of a health kick a few weeks back, which has meant trying to eat healthily (lots of fruit and veggies), exercising regularly, and quitting smoking and drinking (yes I do recognise the hypocrisy of being a doctor who occasionally smoked!).

tumblr
I think one of the best things you can do during this time is to quit smoking or vaping because smokers are more at risk of respiratory infections. I wrote a little tweet-guide as to how I did it.
Vitamin C has been shown to help stave off the common cold. In general, I’d suggest you make sure you’re eating healthily. You can get natural sources of vitamin C, which include citrus fruits, kiwi, and broccoli.
Zinc has also been shown to be beneficial for colds. Natural sources of zinc include pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, and chickpeas.
If you’re eating a sufficiently varied diet, then you won’t necessarily need to take oral multivitamin tablets. However, as we’ll all be indoors more, we may find that we benefit from a vitamin D supplement (which we usually get from the sun).
If you’re living in an area where you can still go outside, then walks can be good for your physical and mental health. Try to maintain a good distance from others, and wash your hands for 20 seconds—especially when you get back home. As we still don’t have all the information about how long COVID-19 remains in the air, if you’re particularly at risk, I would perhaps advise staying at home.
I know COVID-19 is really scary; make sure you’re taking the right precautions, but also be sure to try and spend some time every day doing things you enjoy and taking your mind off the virus. My friend has put together a guide to ensuring good mental health at this time:

2020 Census: Everyone Counts
It’s that time again. Census time! Once every ten years the federal government counts every single person living in the U.S. of A. in order to effectively allocate representation and resources across the country. It’s an ambitious endeavor, for sure, but one designed to benefit everyone by making sure each community can adequately fund crucial public goods and services, like roads, hospitals, and schools. It determines how many seats each state gets in the U.S. House of Representatives. Also, congressional and state legislative boundaries are drawn and redrawn based on the data collected. Political representation at the state and federal level hinges on census participation. That’s a big deal!
The census count kicked off in March, with its biggest push for people to respond on their own in April, a.k.a. tax month. Although people in the U.S. pay federal income taxes every year, only once every decade do we have the power to influence how those dollars come back to us
The census is a nine-part questionnaire that takes just 10 minutes to complete. To combat all the misinformation flying around about what the census is and how the collected data is used, we’re gonna bust some of the myths and answer a few of the frequently asked questions:
Is there a citizenship question?
No. The courts have permanently blocked asking respondent their citizenship status and the courts have permanently blocked the Trump administration from adding one. Furthermore, federal law prohibits the Census Bureau from sharing individual census information with any person, organization or government body, including law enforcement. Your responses can only be used for statistical purposes (individual records are released only after 72 years!).
What will you be asked?
The questionnaire asks for basic demographic information such as age, race, type of housing, etc. It will not ask for compromising or sensitive information like social security numbers, bank account numbers, or immigration status.
Who should be counted on the Census?
Every person living in the United States, regardless of citizenship status, including kids and babies!
How can I take the Census?
Great news! Completing the census questionnaire is literally the easiest it’s ever been. For the first time ever, you can complete the census online at 2020Census.gov or by phone at 844-330-2020. Also, by April 1st, every home will receive a mailed notice to participate in the 2020 Census.
When is the deadline?
Ideally, Uncle Sam would like to receive your data by April 30th. But as of right now, you can respond on your own all the way until mid-August. If you don’t respond on your own by the end of May, a Census worker may come to your home and ask to record your answers in person. And while it was funny on screen, please do not behave like Christopher Walken in this classic SNL Census sketch.
Is it safe?
Yes. The census is safe, your information is handled with the utmost confidentiality meaning that no one can take your data and use it against you. Your individual data will not be shared with any person, organization or government body, including other federal agencies or any law enforcement or housing authorities. It’s to your benefit to participate.
Sure, filling out a form sounds boring, but it helps to think of it as an opportunity to make your voices heard in a way that really matters. That sounds exciting, no? Plus, you only have to spend 10 minutes doing it once every 10 years.
Make sure to pass this information to your friends and family in order to stop the spread of misinformation. If you have any questions, please check out the United States Census Bureau Fact Sheet.
Please visit 2020census.gov for more information.
