The Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will meet President Droupadi Murmu today to present the comprehensive list of newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to start the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha. On Wednesday the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passed a resolution to elect Narendra Modi as their leader for the third time.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance - which won 293 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election to push past the majority mark of 272.

The NDA leaders met at PM Modi's residence to review the election result and discuss government formation. That delegation was to include Telugu Desam Party boss Chandrababu Naidu and Janata Dal leader Nitish Kumar, whose combined 28 seats are needed to ensure the BJP's coalition stays above water.

The extension of Sukhbir Singh Sandhu's tenure as the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been approved by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). His tenure has been extended for a period of six months beyond 21st of July 2020 to 21st of January 2021. In view of the massive fire incidents which took place recently in Noida and Karol Bagh, the Additional Municipal Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), YS Gupta, on Saturday held a meeting with the officials of fire department and directed them to conduct a fire safety survey to avoid such mishaps in the area.

He said that new and advanced devices will be provided to the fire fighting teams to combat such incidents. Besides, health check-ups and counselling sessions will be held periodically for the firemen to give them a stress-free environment while working.

Gupta further directed the officials concerned to clear all the files related to fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) in a prompt manner. In addition to this, he stated that proper arrangements should be in place in all the commerical and industrial units.
