I just watched Subspecies 1 through 4 in the last 48 hrs. My brain is now overloaded by Radus raspy voice , skeezy euro actors and that FullMoon go to castle. You know what though, the movies didn't age too badly. After watching the new prequel last month I felt diving into the old FullMoon catalogue was a great way to ease into the Spoopy season. Of all the FullMoon franchises this one is perhaps the classiest and spookiest. Sure there are plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, padding forcing the acts to vamp (pun only slightly on purpose). But Radu is a pretty cool lead monster, basically the Dracula of FullMoon. Ugly and creepy but only once you get over his weird voice and his constant drooling. The female lead Michelle is haunted and stalked by Radu and in the sequels is also a vampire if maybe a tad of a neurotic vampire. In the sequels Michelle is a different actor but both are gorgeous and once she is a vampire she's very different in general so it shouldn't phase anyone. Gore doesn't happen a lot BUT when it does, wow it's impressive for its budget. No spoiler in knowing that Radu is killed at the end of every movie but that's what monsters do as they just get resurrected in the next one. His rebirth in 2 is very gooey and his death in 3 is great. 4 sometimes called Awakening or Bloodstorm takes a dip in production value and a leap of faith in plot. Radu seems like a different actor but they just got lazy on his make up and he semi forgot how to do the voice for a bit. But it makes up for that in ridiculousness.

1998's Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm took a few extra years to come out after the conclusion of Bloodlust. However, it's kind of the odd sequel out as it seemed to have maybe the least reason to exist and it required some budget cuts as Full Moon was a bit past their earlier prime at his point. That said, it's not without some qualities.

After much delay, Subspecies V: Blood Rise is now filming in Belgrade, Serbia. Under the direction of Ted Nicolaou, the Subspecies series is an American, direct-to-video, horror film series produced by Charles Band’s Full Moon Features. The series originally ran ran from 1991 to 1998, and followed the exploits of vampire Radu Vladislas, portrayed by Anders Hove, and his efforts to turn Michelle Morgan into his fledgling. 

Spanning 500 years in the life of the vampire Radu Vladislas, this long-anticipated prequel to the Subspecies series chronicles Radu's descent from a noble warrior for the Church to a depraved creature of the night.

Stars Anders Hove, Denice Duff, and Kevin Spirtas return for the new installment.

Kevin Spirtas Wraps Filming on Subspecies V: Blood Rise

Subspecies actor Kevin Spirtas announced he has wrapped filming on Full Moon Features’ new prequel with a heartfelt post on social media. 

After much delay, Subspecies V: Blood Rise is currently filming in Belgrade, Serbia. Under the direction of Ted Nicolaou, the Subspecies series is an American, direct-to-video, horror film series produced by Charles Band’s Full Moon Features. The series originally ran ran from 1991 to 1998, and followed the exploits of vampire Radu Vladislas, portrayed by Anders Hove, and his efforts to turn Michelle Morgan into his fledgling.  

Spanning 500 years in the life of the vampire Radu Vladislas, this long-anticipated prequel to the Subspecies series chronicles Radu's descent from a noble warrior for the Church to a depraved creature of the night.  

In an emotional post on Instagram, Kevin Spirtas announced he has finished filming Subspecies V: Blood Rise. The actor called the filming in Serbia a “true joy.” Check out his full post below:

Subspecies: Bloodrise | First Look | Full Moon Features

Stolen by crusaders on the night of his birth, he has no knowledge of his bloodline: his mother is a demon; his father is a vampire. Trained and exploited by a brotherhood of mystic monks to slay all enemies of the church, fate brings him back one night to the castle of his father, armed with the monster-slaying Sword of Laertes, to destroy the vampire Vladislas and reclaim a holy relic: The Bloodstone.
