This is a Subnautica oc! Their name is Magpie, and they're a mesmer-mermaid. Or a... mermer, if you will. They're being taught ASL by a diver and learning what human social concepts are.

Subnautica mermaid no. 1: Blighter

Blighter merfolk tend to be mischievous and cunning, but don’t group up unless they’re trying to take down larger prey. Their size relative to the world around them means that they can hide in their environment very easily, and are known for using this to their advantage when hunting, exploring, and playing.

DP x Dc x Subnautica AU

Inspired by this post of @mcgomega. I have never played Subnautica but the fic is so good that I just want to draw Tim and Danny in beautiful mermaid forms. I watched like 5 Youtube videos to about the game just to draw this, and the game looks amazing but I don't really have time to play it =((.

For Tim mermaid form, I did some adjustments such as the tail (it was kinda busy and it was hard to see the actual form of the tail), and I added a pattern on Tim back that resemble a pair of wing (bc Robin).

Since the original post mentioned Danny with naga tail so I went with that. At first I wanted to make him look like the Ghost leviathan(?) in the game but I wanted to keep his Phantom color palette. Finally, the tail - his glory glowing bones, you can see it was a lot but I just draw 5 bones in different angle, copy paste them and adjust each to correct shape.

I have plan to working on drawing the JL in leviathan forms but it gonna take a while since I kinda busy at the moment. But if anyone have any suggestion for their forms feel free to share. <3

Subnautica mermaid no. 2: Amoeboid

Amoeboid merfolk are known for sleeping throughout most of their lives. After their mitosis from their parent, they drift through the water until they find a good spot to latch onto, preferably with lots of nutrients in the soil and near others of their species. After they latch into place, they almost immediately go into hibernation, only waking up when prompted or when the time comes to reproduce again. When not sleeping, Amoeboids are surprisingly exuberant, and often greet passing merfolk of other species eagerly and strike up conversations with them, or with each other. Being at the base of the food chain, everything reaches them eventually, making them one of 4546B’s best species when it comes to gossip.

I think this is the first kinda-finished mer Sun design I ever posted lmao he doesn't cross my mind sorry😭 but anyway!! I'm really proud of how this came out especially considering that I spent like only hour and a half on this. I tried to convey kind of a mix of jellyfish and normal looking mermaid?? Idk if worked but he looks very edible. Also there are some subnautica motifs in his design too<3

Uhhh spoilers for Subnautica ig

So the moment i let my mind wander, I get hit with this kind of ideas. Why Subnautica of all things? BECAUSE I LOVE THAT GAME AND THE REAPER LEVIATHAN AND SEE EMPEROR FIT PERFECTLY-

Ok, so the idea of a beastformers that turn into Subnautica fauna (and i guess flora as well, thank you Botanica from Beast Mashines for existing), was spinning around inside my head for quite some time now - JUST YOU WAIT, I WILL DRAW THEM, so many OCs to make, hopefuly this summer break.

UNICRON- my initial thought was just Reaper Leviathan: the mandibles on his back instead of wings, something similar to Tarantulas, mmm yes. Both he and Earth have four eyes only because both reaper and see empress four of them. All of them are aliens and have natural glowing body parts, so why not, my brain just said let's go crazy and didn't wait for an answers besides WE NEED MORE TRANSFORMERS WITH 4 EYES.

But then i rememberd that there's a bigger fish- THE SEA DRAGON. He dose have these matching spikes on his body, and the back appendages? tentacles? Are similar to Sea Emperors and is living in the deepest parts on the map. However, Sea Empress os the biggest alive creature in game (for aby fellow Subnautica nerds, o know that Gargantuan Leviathan i WAAAY bigger, but his design is eh, probably not the best here, maybe the colar thiengies could be like a cape?). But then i hit me- UNICRON CAN BE A REAPER AND SEA DRAGON HYBRID! It basicly gives me the ability to put all the parts of both fishes that match Unicrons og body the best and a "logical" explenation as to why he would be always bigger than Earth. With hybrids, sometimes they are bigger than parental species, so as hybrid he could be unnaturaly bigger, and with Sea Dragon parts he can live in the deepest game bioms.

EARTH- the Sea Emperor because yes. Also In game it's te Sea Empress babies that produce enzyme 42, the only thing that managed to destroy the deadly bacteria (GREEN BACTERIA, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IS GREEN? TOX-EN) and save/give life to the entire planet again, and she is a curious, young, litle thing like the hatchlings; i'm guessing that's why she's so small in authors drawing. She's a baby

(huh now that i'm thinking about it, maybe Primus should be Sea Emperor, Unicron just a Reaper and Earth a Sea Dragon, after all wild fires are a recurring events...version 2 ig?)

I really wanted to have it done by the end of may, but uhh i'm working on some other thing, that was suposed to be just a sketch, and instead it just grew bigger, and my brain is just demanding full render XD And it will now take even more time despite it being almost finished, because the moment i discovered tha faster and easier method for shading and lightning throu clipping masks, i knew I'd use it there, so XD But hey at least i know it'll look better now ( ≖‿ ≖ )

Siren/mer Moon!!! He has found one of your camera drones. He has seen you chase after other creatures to get it back and wonders if you'll chase after him too. You always seem reluctant to swim in the darker waters He calls home, maybe this will entice you enough to visit him more?

I really tried to do a glowing effect and I think in some parts it works. I kinda regret shading Moon first and then doing the bg I think if he was able to pop more it would look better lol I also think water color or India ink would have been a better medium than my markers. I still like this tho, it's nice to do full trading art again!

Apparently I have good timing lmao I just finished this up when I saw that the fic updated!! So of course I had to go read the new chapter! All the adorable little babies!!

Anyways, idk if this is entirely done but he's good for now, might get some little touch ups as I go along, but we'll see.

I actually ended up doing a decent amount of research for this design, mostly via youtube videos of people playing the mod. But hey, it helped with some of the design aspects that were hidden in my main reference pic lol.

So, here's my design for Kill Code 'The Silence' from The Abyss Stares Back (Warning: It's rated Explicit) by @sinclairmaxwellao3 and @cyborgfoxcripple (sorry for the tags, but hopefully y'all like the fanart <3 )

I'll probably be working on either Moon or Eclipse next (leaning towards Moon)
