4000 places by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: There are approximately 4,000 places to stop on the drive from Te Anau to Milford, and this is one of them. It’s kind of a must-stop! The scene is crazy-powerful, and it changes throughout the day. I’ve noticed sometimes in the morning it is foggy and hard to see, but it’s still interesting even then. When planning car-trips in New Zealand, it’s best just to add a few extra hours into the experience!

Lenticulars. New Zealand by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: This is a new area I discovered near Arrowtown and Queenstown in New Zealand. When the grasses get long in the late summer, they move in the breeze. It’s almost like you can see the wind itself while standing there. Those flying-saucer-shaped clouds are quite rare and are called Lenticulars. When you're a photographer, you get to collect all sorts of useless information like that.

North Island Sunrise by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Every morning we would head out to this beach along the coast of the north island of New Zealand to catch the sunrise. It was always calm and quiet, but the best sunrises seemed to come around after a cool morning rain shower.

Beehive Island by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Yesterday we had a fun boat party here in summery New Zealand. There was a tiny flotilla of people out to celebrate our friend Michelle's birthday and we cruised on out to this awesome deserted island. I think it's called Beehive Island. I don't know if you watch my silly Instagram stories or not, but there is some more behind-the-scenes on there.

The Lake at Nikko by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Daily Photo - The Lake at Nikko This place was Cold with a capital C, as you can plainly see. And worse, I had forgotten my special little gloves with the flip-up fingertips. So I was goin' finger-commando while trying to line up this shot. The wind was pretty stiff in my face. The wind always seems to be against you, eh? I think I just never notice it when it comes from any other angle. By the way, there is only one place that is convenient to quickly warm up your fingers ... Read the rest at the Stuck in Customs blog! Many new HDR offerings! This HDR Software area is really heating up... I know Nik has something new coming soon, as does OnOne and many others. What do you guys and gals think? Are you playing with these? Send me a Tweet (@TreyRatcliff) or leave a comment -- I look forward to your feedback! Note on Photomatix Pro 4.0 It is not available to the public yet -- but if you get Photomatix Pro 3 (use the Photomatix Coupon Code STUCKINCUSTOMS to save the most money), then you will get a FREE upgrade to Photomatix Pro 4.0 when it comes out... I don't know when that will be, but I am guessing in the next few weeks. You can download it from the HDRSoft website. Adobe Photoshop CS5 is available. I own it and think it is amazing. If you want to buy it, or get a free trial, you can see if you can get a good special offers from Adobe on that link. New to HDR? Friends par Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr : These two women were like super-good friends. It's kind of like me and Rene, except that nobody would want to look at us. Also, there is no way we could get into this position without cracking up. This is Carla Blokesch and Kristyna Chladkova #burningman

Desert Tractor Beam by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Here's an alien tractor beam at the mighty mighty Mayan Warrior melting down the mirror orb at Burning Man a few nights ago. I went up top and met the awesome Pablo Gonzalez Vargas who gave me a little tour and some wonderful, special gifts. We got to play with all the lasers and the flames and do all kinds of fun stuff. We're all just big kids up there!

The Dirt Road to Paradise by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: After you pass Glenorchy, the paved road continues for a while as you approach Paradise. The paved road then turns into a dirt road. At this point, many visitors turn around, which is a shame! You can keep on rolling down this road in your rental car for quite a way. There’s even a few river crossings you can make, like Arwen on horseback. You can do it! Probably. I even see giant campervans going through here… anyway, the dirt road is in pretty good condition, so don’t let that turn you back! - Trey Ratcliff Click here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

Lupins at Christmas
flickr
Lupins at Christmas by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Merry Christmas everyone! Actually, Christmas was yesterday here in New Zealand, and I went out to take some photos (that's how I give myself a Christmas gift). It's the middle of summer here, and the lupins are growing like crazy. Many locals here don't like the lupins and think of them like a pest. I don't totally agree with that. I think they are pretty.

Ancient Mount Fuji Village por Trey Ratcliff Por Flickr: Here I am in that little village of Saiko. I don’t know if it is always relatively empty or just this one day, but hardly anyone was around. I did see this one older gentleman sauntering around, and he happened to saunter right into the frame! A lucky grab! :) This “look” for this photo is a bit experimental, but I kind of like it. To achieve it (this is Photoshop-heavy-jargon I’m afraid!), you can duplicate the layer then do some extreme sharpening and a black and white conversion using something like Silver Efex Pro (there is a review here on the site). After that, you can change the blend mode to Hard Light… it makes an interesting effect! - Trey Ratcliff Click here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
