i don't think people really understand what's happening in gaza. with each passing day that sees more and more palestinians dead, it's becoming easier and easier for those in the west to perceive them as nothing more than a statistic. they might engage w the occasional palestine post, sure, but it's just as easy to scroll right past that moments later w no real outrage for the genocide retained.
it's vital to stay reminded that palestinians who are with us today won't be with us tomorrow. it's happening every second of every minute of every hour, and it's relentless. somewhere in gaza a little girl is losing her mother, a little boy is watching his siblings bleed to death, elderly people are infirm with starvation and illness, palestinian women and girls are being sexually assaulted and kept in cages, fathers are leaving tents to find food for their families and not coming back. this is all happening right now, and it's a direct result of the west's complacency. it's a direct result of their not seeing arabs as people worth saving.
it might be hard to compute as a westerner, but this is real. don't let your privilege blind you to your humanity.
#palestine#gaza#israel#it really dawned on me that westerners do struggle w the basic feeling of caring. and this is coming from an arab girl who's also american#i see it firsthand all the time. and i'm like how. how could you. but they could

Happy Native American Heritage Month
admittedly, when 'Indigenous People's Day' or 'Native American Heritage Month' come around, i can't help but feel a little angry. millions of my people suffered and died at the hands of this country - and they think one month of remembrance is enough to make up for it?
but as i've gotten older, i've started to feel more appreciative of the fact that i am even here to celebrate these holidays at all. because the truth is, i'm the survivor of a genocide. i think that i should try to celebrate the fact that i am alive today, rather than only being angry about moments in history that i can't change. not everyone is as lucky as me - especially right now, on the other side of the world where such horrendous things are happening all over again to someone else..
but i can't exactly stop the anger completely (especially with current events in mind) so maybe meeting halfway would be acceptable.
I lived, bitch!! they tried to kill us, but i'm still here! and that's worth celebrating.
#native american#native american heritage month#native american art#indigenous#indigenous art#my art#i struggle a lot to organize my thoughts...#i hope this reads well#theres a lot more that i wanted to say but#i'm not great at words y'know?

Thinking about better call saul if the action took place in france just because I wanted to see them in cunty robes lmao. More thoughts under the cut!
Obviously the action and the whole premise of bcs/brba wouldn't work in france (legal system aside, the whole cartel and walter white storyline would have to suffer major changes due to social security and the mexican cartel well. not existing here stricto sensu). But let's talk about the real Important Stuff : their names
I think Howard Hamlin would work well as Edouard Hamelin. He looses the cool HH initials yes, but it works really well as a genuine french name imo, and Howard/Edouard are pretty close phonetically
Chuck could still be called Charles without any realism issue, but he'd be nicknamed Charlie rather than Chuck because that's what a french person would go for... nicknames don't work the same, yeah
Kimberly Wexler and James McGill, I have no idea lmao. James when translated becomes Jacques, but it's such a boomerish uncool name that I cannot resolve myself to call my boy like that. It's also one generation too old. Jimmy being born in '60 could technically be called Jacques, but it'd be old-fashioned, as it's a name mostly given to the kids of the decade that came before him. McGill is an irish name, so something funny could be making Jimmy a breton with a funky last name like Gall/LeGall ? That's hilarious to me. But who knows.
Saul Goodman is a pun, so this is even harder for me to conceptualize. Saul's marketing would definitely not work in france at all, as no one would realistically hire a lawyer with a puny name and such chaotic displays (+ I think ads for legal démarchage are illegal mind you). However, let's have a crack at it. It would have to be a pun based off an expression similar to "it's all good man", or implying something positive and familiar... I need to think on that one.
#saul goodman#jimmy mcgill#howard hamlin#kim wexler#better call saul#bcs#breaking bad#brba#french au#my art#fanart#please help if you wanna participate to their naming...... im struggling as you can see#what i love about bcs is how deeply american it is but im just imagining this for fun lol. and also for the outfits#cause come on. any profession immediately becomes better with a Special Outfit involved#i should write about the robes too.... i have headcanons about the cast....#so much to say!!!!

have compassion for yourself and for others. it seems hopeless but any small amount of good you can do is just that much more love in the world
#i've been reckoning with a few things recently#mainly my privilege as a white american citizen and the way my mere existence brings pain to others#and how to counteract that and be someone who can contribute to my community and beyond to the rest of the world#who certainly will suffer (have suffered; are suffering) far more than i ever will. probably#as a direct result of our government. and also white people in general#which i imagine is also on some of your minds#and really i think the best thing we as ordinary people can do is ground ourselves in compassion#with acts of love and kindness not only for people we know but for strangers. people in our communities#those who are struggling or can't advocate for themselves or need our support#and also turn our attention out to other places where we can make even a small difference with our donations#raising awareness... protesting... etc#whatever small amount you're able to do is better than nothing#idk#i'll probably open some kind of donation comms soon i've been considering it for a while#if anyone has thoroughly vetted gofundmes or organizations they recommend feel free to send them in an ask

Quote
Cold water added to cold water, makes no disturbance. Error added to error causes no jar. Selfishness and selfishness walk together in peace, because they are agreed; but when fire is brought in direct contact with water, when flaming truth grapples with some loathsome error, when the clear and sweet current of benevolence sets against the foul and bitter stream of selfishness, when mercy and humanity confront iron-hearted cruelty, and ignorant brutality, there cannot fail to be agitation and excitement.
Frederick Douglass, "The American Apocalypse (1861)"

Okay, for aro awareness week, I need you all to start recognizing that:
NOT EVERYONE IN THE ARO COMMUNITY IS FROM THE UNITED STATES OR EUROPE.
Please, when we're having discussions about aphobia, allonormativity amatonormativity, and other issues for the love of god STOP PRETENDING THAT WE DON'T EXIST AND LISTEN TO US!
We aren't just your token aros that exist in the other side of the world just for you to prove that we are everywhere or whatever point you're trying to make, we are living, breathing human beings and members of the aro community and we deserve respect and to be remembered not as a point in your discourse but as equals.
I am sick and tired of people just assuming that everyone in the community is either from the United States or Europe and only centering those voices in the discussion. We exist too.
#mayaposts#aro#aromatic#aro awareness week#aromantic awareness week#aro awareness week 2024#aroallo#aroace#arospec#filipino aro#asian aro#poc aro#sorry this came about after someone replied to me saying that not everyone can afford necessities with one income and that rent is too#expensive these days with ''just move to less expensive cities like amsterdam or london and get a full time job'' and it PISSED ME OFF#mind you it was a discussion on why aroaces (who may not have partners or roommates) struggle in today's economy#the other person was not only dismissive of the op who was explaining the frustrations of needing to work multiple jobs to stay afloat#but also trying to just dismiss the struggles of single income people (in this case non-partnering aroaces)#and the implication that we should just ''move out of london and amsterdam and get a full time job'' to be able to afford rent#is such a privileged european/american take#sorry im ranting now lol im just peeved off#i dont even know if the other person was aroace at all tbh but whatever

...you know when you have a thought that transforms in a drawing and a short "comic"?
Anyway, in my head Johnny and Lao had some occasional hookups while at the academy, mostly they were trying to prove themself to be better than the other. Also, headcanon Johnny/Kenshi and Raiden/Kung Lao roommates
#mortal kombat#johnny cage#starhat#kung lao#johnlao#mk1#mk johnny cage#mk kung lao#raiden#kenshi takahashi#my art#what's the tag for the ship??? do they have one???#lao tried to warn johnny that “the sock on the door handle” is very much an american thing#and there's a big chance Kenshi doesn't know what that means#but they were kinda in a “hurry” and johnny couldn't find the keys#you know how it is :/ the struggle

"Being poor is a choice, you can get out of it if you work hard."
I live with 4 people, one of which is a child. I work a full time job. So does another. And the third works two part times.
We have no heating. Our electric keeps getting shut off. We didn't have anything AT ALL to drink for 3 days.
You REALLY fucking think we choose to live like this? You think I want to fucking FREEZE right now as I type? FUCK all the out of touch lucky people saying this shit.
Is it possible to get out of a poor family? Yes. But the majority of the time your area of living is what predicts your wealth.
#I am white and am lucky#but my mother is native american (i am her only white child) and she has been treated like jack SHIT.#Her race had a lot to do with her status as I was growing up#My sister (the child) is already getting called the N word#Fucking hell I hate these motherfuckers#personal#classism#class struggle#class war#anti capitalism#anti capitalist

I’ve asked Palestinian Americans who have also drawn parallels between themselves and the First Nations Indigenous peoples what exactly they knew about them or their histories. Given that I’m Canadian and my first work clinicals were on Coast Salish reservations it’s a topic close to my heart. I asked them if they knew the differences between First Nations, Métis and Inuit. They didn’t. I asked if they knew about the six nations. They didn’t. I asked if they knew about the the Proclamation of 1763. They didn’t. The Sioux wars? No. Trail of Tears? Nope. They had zero knowledge on any of the nation’s social organization, spiritual beliefs or traditional ways of life. I already know you have no idea about the symbolic meaning of that headdress or that they were worn by Sioux, Blackfeet, Crow, Plains Cree, and Cheyenne people... And I don’t know whether to laugh or cry that he’s been drawn in a grass skirt? (the men wore leggings). Indigeneity is also not a matter of genetics. It’s defined by historical continuity on a specific common place of origin/land. There is a distinct social, economic, linguistic, cultural and political system which predate colonial societies. The differences just within North America are so widespread it’s impossible to draw those kinds of comparisons… I’m begging you to learn the bare minimum about the people and the histories you’re appropriating.
#cultural appropriation#indigenous americans#indigeneity#anti free palestine#listen i do not and will not pretend that i speak for all indigenous americans because i'm not#how-ev-er it's insidious how the palestinian cause has appropriated real peoples' struggles#and again if we're doing indigeneity by 'who was there first'#then the jews are indigenous to the region
