HC that it really bothers Lockwood that Lucy's mom pulled her out of school so young to become an agent that she missed out on the more engaging parts of formal education. And of course Mrs. Carlyle wouldn't hire tutors to fill in the gaps for Lucy, or even enroll her in the free supplemental schools that the church missions put on for night watch kids and lower income agents.
So on quiet evenings at home, when they're not on a job, or their job wrapped up fairly early, Lockwood, Lucy, and George hang out in the library with the fireplace going. Lockwood selects one of the literary works he enjoyed, or that stuck with him. Sometimes it's Shakespeare, or Melville, or Tolstoy; occasionally it's one of the Austens, or a book of poetry, and for a few memorable weeks, it was the Ramayana. He sits in his armchair and reads it aloud.
Lockwood has a natural cadence to his reading; it comes from the internal rhythm he uses while fencing. He reads aloud to the other two, and he does all the voices, because Jessica used to read to him that way. His naturally deep voice has to jump to falsetto for most of the female characters, and it always makes George and Lucy laugh. But he loves that sound, them laughing, so he keeps doing it.
On cases that required a lot of Touch, or when George is feeling particularly in need of comfort, he'll come into the library after his bath and settle on the floor in front of Lucy instead of beside her on the couch. She'll twist his wet hair around her fingers to make little defined curls, instead of the fluffy crop he usually gets by running a brush through it after letting it air dry. If he sleeps carefully enough, the curls will stay for a day or two, and the girl who runs the microfiche desk at the Archives will always compliment him on his "hairstyle".
So the three of them will sit with the comforting crackle of the fireplace as a backdrop, while Lockwood's voice takes them on adventures of the mind, creating characters and stories and places in their imaginations that they can take back out and relive during quiet, tense evenings waiting for Visitors to show up in haunted houses and gardens and basements. In this way, he can give them whole worlds.

I did it. I managed to make a tweet that mentions Lockwood and Co. and utilizes the “save lockwood and co” hashtag without clueing in my family and friends and church people that I am probably unhealthily obsessed with it.
Twitter brings a lot of scary feelings/reminders about a place in my life that I don’t ever want to be at again, so going back on it to help save the show is wild ahaha

Lockwood & Co. Appreciation Week
March 24th, Day 1
Favourite Character from the Main Trio:
No surprise here, it’s George Karim! I could go on a whole rant about how much I adore George and his characterisation but for now all I’ll say is George Karim makes me feel seen.
Not sure if I’ll be able to do anymore prompts for the week due to me being away and ill but I’ll try my best!

This has probably been said but, KUDOS TO JONATHAN STROUD FOR GETTING INTO THE MIND OF A TEENAGE GIRL LIKE THAT!!
Like when I picked up the book, I never imagined I'd root for her.
There was nothing idealistic about her, just relatable. Her sense of displacement when Holly joined the group, her guilt about Lockwood. It wasn't that just because there is a somewhat traumatised girl as mc, those things were bound to be. No. It was all so well explained.
His writing style is impeccable. The humour blends seamlessly with the seriousness of their situation, the chill of ghost hunting. The way things were described made them tangible. The metaphors were on point. I have never been to London, yet I feel as if I know it, just a little bit 🤏
I loved all of Lockwood's dialogue, his personality (the airiness, his role as a leader and friend), his fierce loyalty to his cause (the scene at the grave? I was close to tears there)
And I kinda liked the fact that Lockwood and Lucy didn't kiss. It adds something to their relationship for me.

In the books, he clears away the apple core, but in the show, he just watches her to see what she'll do. It was a really interesting choice, that small change. Like someone else said, they all have that "weird energy", and I think that's part of why they work as a trio.

Lockwood and Co Appreciation Week day 3
Who was my favourite minor character in the show?
This was very minor, but it was the part where george was mocking out the listener girls who just check for ghosts (forgot what they’re called) at the graveyard and one of them sounds so moody when she replies and George is like ‘go write a poem about it!’ An actual mood 😂.

New Scotland Yard: Shock Tactics (1.6, LWT, 1972)
"Nobody's hurt. I went down to get the truth and I got it."
"The truth? Or a conviction?"
"Both. Well, alright, we already knew the truth, but this way we get our conviction too."
"Not 'our' conviction. And the Crown only gets it if this stands up."
"Well, why shouldn't it, it was voluntary. No duress, no threats, no promises."
"That's what you say."
#new scotland yard#shock tactics#lwt#classic tv#patrick alexander#john reardon#john woodvine#john carlisle#john normington#ray smith#john quentin#sheila gish#artro morris#frank middlemass#hugh morton#joyce cummings#pauline stroud#gareth forbes#derrick gilbert#mischa de la motte#a man kills his wife by scaring her; this leads into a fairly interesting thought experiment‚ as the onus of the police becomes#proving malicious intent rather than proving the act (which he freely admits). this leads to our first sight of our characters in court#indeed the third act is entirely courtroom drama‚ the prosecution case complicated by Carlisle's heavy handed attempts at#shocking the killer into admitting guilt naturally enough this drives another shouty wedge between him and Woodvine.. i am enjoying#this series but im struggling to think of another crime drama featuring main characters who so clearly do not enjoy nor#appreciate working together like this pair. it's an odd choice. Normington is our killer and cuts a rather pathetic figure‚ despite the#audience knowing up front that he did indeed plot his wife's death. the question of whether or not it is murder becomes a point#of purely legal technicality‚ out of our leads' hands‚ with just jolly old Ray Smith (on loan from Public Eye) to fight the good fight as#the prosecuting counsel. Middlemass has a rather scene stealing turn as a heavy drinking police surgeon (and gets the best moment in the#episode‚ serving Carlisle a drink in a dirty piece of medical apparatus but assuring him not to worry 'the whisky will sterilise it')

One thing I loved about Lockwood and Co. is just. The girls are pro brute force and the guys are all about proper technique. (Not all girls and not all guys but like, yeah).
Like it's Lockwood and Kipps that are finicky about proper stances and rapier technique (and iirc they both fenced (and Flo kicked their butts cause she's a legend)) and then there's Lucy and Kat who are just like "Look at that conveniently placed heavy object. Imma hit someone with that."
And it's great to me because I feel like in most works of fiction girls have to have exceptional technique and training to be on par with guys in fights, and then Stroud just flips the script. It's great. As a girl I appreciate other brute force girls.

I appreciate that Jonathan Stroud is at least aware of how fucked up it is that children have to be frontline soldiers in the war against ghosts.

Calling all Lockwood and Co lovers!!!
The #SaveLockwoodandCo Discord is putting together a holiday card for the Strouds and Complete Fiction to express our gratitude for their creativity and care. The text of the card is below (feel free to reply with suggestions!).
We'd also love to include as many fan signatures as possible, so if you'd like to add a digital signature, please send it to me in a message, and I'll get it over to @oceanspray5, who is compiling the signatures together.
Dear Team Complete Fiction, Jonathan & Georgina Stroud, and Georgia Lawe,
It has been yet another year around the sun and LockNation sends you this card to wish you all a very happy, wholesome and buoyant holiday season. Once again, we thank you for all the love and kindness you have shown our fandom. We flourish because of your appreciation and support, both implicit and explicit, and can only hope this card can return the sentiment. Though we can only estimate the challenges you have faced this year and how hard you continue to work towards the same goal as us while carrying your other responsibilities, we acknowledge it must be quite difficult. We hope our consistent fervor and enthusiasm can offer you affirmation, reinforcement and heart in the knowledge that the art you have already created continues to fuel a community full of optimism, vibrancy and creativity.
Warmest Wishes, Happy Holidays, and here's to a Just Reckless Enough 2025.
LockNation
P.S. As further proof of the flourishing community of fans you have inspired from around the world, we're sending some of our Virtual Thinking Cloths alongside this card as physical evidence of our support! We hope that, when paired with good tea and a tasty donut, they can add an additional boost when times get hard!
Here's what last year's card looked like!

Campaigning for Lockwood & Co:
Prepare the kit bags and oil the iron chains Lock Nation. We aren’t done with this case yet.
I thought I’d compile a list of methods to voice our displeasure with Netflix’s recent decision for those of us who want to engage in saving the show.
The only string of hope I am holding onto right now is that Netflix was not the production company for the show, and as such Complete Fiction may hold more weight in its future than the former. Whilst Netflix doesn’t have a history of passing over cancelled shows to other platforms, that doesn’t mean it has never happened at all. “Uncoupled” recently got renewed by Showtime after being binned by Netflix. It’s not outside possibility.
We need to use streamlined hashtags to accompany posts on Netflix’s socials, on fan edits, and fan art; #bringbacklockwoodandco and #savelockwoodandco seem like good options to start with.
You can seek out the feedback options on Netflix’s online homepage to express your dissatisfaction.
Commenting on all of Netflix’s socials. And I mean all. For instance on Instagram alone we have Netflix US, Netflix UK, Netflix Geeked, Netflix ANZ, Netflix Brazil, Netflix Italia, Netflix Deutschland, Netflix Espana, Netflix France, Netflix KR, Netflix Queue and many more. As always I implore people to be passionate but POLITE AND RESPECTFUL. I know we are all upset, but let’s maintain composure whilst we voice our complaints. To further elaborate on this, our commenting needs to be sustained over a month at the very minimum for maximum impact.
Engage with other potential future streaming platforms. Disney+ isn’t worth our time as they have already announced massive cuts to productions due to the strike. Amazon Prime (specifically the UK branch), Paramount+, Apple TV, HBO, and the BBC are just some examples. Let’s comment and bring the show to their attention. This is what was done by fans of “The Expanse” when it was cancelled and Amazon eventually picked it up.
Consider writing to Netflix’s headquarters via old fashioned letters voicing your displeasure!
Take part in the watch party happening May 20th/21st!!
And let’s just keep spreading lots of love and share our joy for the show!
Will these methods most definitely ensure Lockwood finds its way back into production? No, I can’t attest to that. But will they at the very least let the creators, the actors, and Mr Stroud himself know how loved and appreciated this story was to us all? Absolutely yes.
If anyone out there has any other ideas, please feel free to brainstorm!
