Ramelzee and Basquiat were the badest motherfuckas in the art world. Though they were sometimes more like frienemies due to Ramelzee being a little jealous of Jean's commercial success. In 1983 they collaborate on a record together called Beat Pop where the multu talented Ramelzee rapped and Basquiat produced the beat and cover art. Baquiat was no stranger to production. He had a noise band called Grey that was blazing the NYC punk scene. Ramelzee predated Basquiat in the relms of street art and painting but wasn't as celebrated until way later. When they made the Beat Pop single they were at odds. Ramelzee kinda chumped Jean by telling a interviewer that "Jean didnt do anything but foot the bill for the record." Jean laughed it off, but it bothered him. Ramelzee was one of Jean's hero's and influences. And for one moment in time the universe synched these two together to create Hip-hop's Holy Grail. It was a short lived moment but beautiful. They pressed 500 copies and never worked together again. No, seriously... a lot of people art trying to paint his style, but, painting is like a signature... I can tell if his him, just by how the heart is painted.
