"At a Nashville Motel, April 5, 1968. With Mike Love, Mark Weitz (keyboardist for the Strawberry Alarm Clock), Carl Wilson and Albert Poland. The Beach Boys/Buffalo Springfield/Strawberry Alarm Clock concert, scheduled for later that night at the Municipal Auditorium, was cancelled due to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. the day before."- Stephen Stills via Facebook

Strawberry Alarm Clock ~ Incense & Peppermints (1967)
~ ♫♪♫ ~
Good sense, innocence, cripplin' mankind Dead kings, many things I can't define Occasions, persuasions clutter your mind Incense and peppermints, the color of time
Who cares what games we choose Little to win, but nothing to lose
Incense and peppermints, meaningless nouns Turn on, tune in, turn your eyes around Look at yourself, look at yourself, yeah, girl Look at yourself, look at yourself, yeah, girl, yeah, yeah
To divide the cockeyed world in two Throw your pride to one side, it's the least you can do Beatniks and politics, nothin' is new A yardstick for lunatics, one point of view
Who cares what games we choose Little to win, but nothing to lose
~ ♫♪♫ ~

Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense & Peppermints (1967)
It doesn’t get much more 1960s than this: the outfits trying to pick up on the flowerchild/Beatles-meet-Maharishi Mahesh Yogi vibe, the abstract lyrics that would put Duran Duran to shame, and how there was MORE COWBELL years before Blue Öyster Cult was asked for it. Thing is, I can’t watch this video without noticing that only a small part of the music actually jibes with their playing, since this was a lipsynch from a TV show -- like the singer only taps the cowbell at one point despite it being played the entire time, the guitar players both have a great case of hoverhand, and the keyboard player loves his job.
And I do own the 45rpm, I bought it at a yardsale from the neighbor across the street in my early teen years. (The below image is from Discogs, since mine is in storage and it’s got the previous owner’s name written on the label.)

Flamboyant costuming does not disguise the triteness of their style.
