My favorite fanfic trope is when the characters meet an au version of themselves. Usually a ship. The AU is close enough to the OG world but better. Real "damn bitch you life like this" energy. Like "No I didn't get seduced by the big bad, we were on a date. Oh you did and everything went to shit? Interesting..."

For example, on Earth 3490 fem Tony and Steve got married, and the Civil War didn't happen.

I once read a fic where Stonys from different shows met the MCU Steve and Tony after Civil War. The Steve's got real mad and stole MCU Tony.

So I reblogged @earth-3490s post talking about this but I feel like this needs to be a whole post, so, in this essay i will be talking about the parallels in civil war, avengers: infinity war and endgame, and xmen: dofp.

SPOILERS FOR CIVIL WAR, AVENGERS INFINITY WAR, AVENGERS ENDGAME AND XMEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST BELOW THE CUT

First and foremost, the avengers (Steve and Tony) / Xmen (Charles and Erik) reconciling for a greater cause, the greater cause being a battle that was lost but now they can fix/erase the consequences.

"You abandoned me!" In Dofp versus "I needed you!" In Avengers: Endgame

Peter Quill punching Thanos because he killed Gamora (infinity war) = Mystique killing Trask because he killed her friends (dofp) (angel, banshee, azazel)

Facing the same enemy again (sentinels in the future, Thanos in infinity war)

Magneto's death in dofp similar to Tony's death in Avengers: Endgame ("All those years wasted fighting each other, Charles... only to have a precious few of them back") (In the avengers parallel, the years fighting was after Civil War and until endgame, in the reconcilation with Steve)

Cherik and Stony have a similar, almost identical dynamic ("I love you but we don't want the same things for the world")

Charles Xavier/Tony Stark is a wreck at the beginning of Xmen dofp and Avengers: Endgame
