Just a ramble about the internet

Okay, so. I just watched a tiktok that was a short segment of a podcast about people's first or second (?) date experiences. And the tiktok I saw was about this guy that called because the girl he went on a first date with. (I was only able to get the 2nd part of the segment and couldn't find the first part.)

But anyway, from what I could gather the problem was that the girl, while on the first date, had talked about how she fantisised about killing her roommate sometimes, and the guy was freaked out about that. Again, I was only able to see the second part of this segment so the tiktok started with the hosts revealing that the girl had been part of this call the entire time after the guy, presumably, ranted/convided about his concerns that she was a serial killer or something.

In the tiktok the girl then explained/justified herself by saying that she's just doing it to blow off steam, that this is her way to deal with having an annoying roommate, that she would never actually do it and that it's a joke. Which, honestly- Fair. I have also fantasised about hitting certain people with a car once or twice.

The reason I'm making this post though, is mainly how the hosts reacted to it. Our caller's concern was about his safety with this girl. The only thing the hosts did while the caller and the girl were talking though was just laugh. Even though the caller had expressed his discomfort with this girl multiple times. And that is not even touching on the fact that they brought the girl in on the call and let her listen in the entire time in the first place without the caller's knowledge or consent.

Honestly, at first it seemed like the hosts were overal on the caller's side by a few comments about how it is understandable he was freaked out by her comment, although handled to lightly in my opinion as the laughing basically took away any weight those comments could've had. But after they started making offers to the og caller asking him if he would go on a second date and that they would pay for it.

The encouragagent of, while very mild, but still concerning behavior really didn't sit right with me. But the main thing that stood out to me was when they neared the end of the segment the guy said he would never go on a second date. And the girl refused to take his no, said straight up she would meet him that friday and that she would continue to message him. And the hosts did absolutely nothing to even discourage her.

Now the reason I decided to make this post, besides the icky feeling i got from it all, was to adress a behavior here that I see more often when it comes to woman or fem presenting people showing red flags or concerning behaviors.

I recently saw a tiktok that explained it so much better than I ever could. But basically her point was that woman forget that they are as much capable of harm as men are. That the point of feminism is that woman are equal to men in every way. Which means woman are just as capable of men as doing good and incredible things and feats, but they are also just as capable of doing harm and evil.

Now that tiktok was mostly in response to the 'trend' of girls posting video's off themselfs stalking or harassing or even drugging in one instance men/boyfriends/dates. But it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this short of this podcast. The nonchalance of the hosts, how all the top comments were saying that "He missed out" "She's honestly a ten" and so forth. The only person that seemed to aknowledge that there was a real concern here was the caller himself.

I think it's another part of internalized sexism/misogyny that I don't think a lot of people realise. Woman are just as capable of abuse/herassment/SA/crimes as men are, and the severity of their actions are not made less simply by the fact they are not a man.

Idk. Just a rant I had that I couldn't really get out of my head unless I wrote it down.
